Dave the Rave
I am sending music files/ Internet radio via wired Ethernet to my Oppo 103 serviced by my Minimserver on my NAS. Cleared any hint of siblance and brings more highs (compared to USB feed to my DAC). Can enjoy heavy rock music too. My Yggy dac connected thru Toslink but most people say AES XLR input is the best. What is the most cost effective way of getting an Ethernet input to AES XLR device built? Don't want to invest on pricey Aries or Singxer etc... at this stage I have a Gustard U12 but want to avoid USB input.
krakatana
Rednet 3 and Rednet D16 do this. But they are not cheap.
mloutfie
there is no cheap option for AES at least not easy unless you want to make your own i2s to AES board. Not that hard if you know how something like getting texas instrument DIT4192 eval board or making something similar. If you want cheap I suggest going SPDIF RaspberryPi with Digi+ pro board pretty much a ready made option minimum assembly only required. It would still be much better than toslink Edited March 13, 2017 by mloutfie
Dave the Rave
@krakatana yeah heard lots of praise for the Rednet but price tag is way too high. @mloutfie Thanks for the suggestions... where can i find good info/product details to build the Digi+ solution? mloutfie
Pi you can get from many places like elemen14 or even jaycar for the digi+ you can get the board from here https://www.hifiberry.com/shop/bundles/hifiberry-digi-bundle/ I suggest you get the pro version worth the extra money. more info https://www.hifiberry.com/products/digiplus/ Edited March 14, 2017 by mloutfie
Dave the Rave
Thanks mloutfie. mloutfie
The hifiberry Digi is just a shield board for raspberry pi so you need to get a pi first that would handle the network connection where the Digi will do the spdif out (not AES) like I said in previous post there is no cheap ready made AES solution. You will need to go full diy if you want AES
Dave the Rave
@mloutfie Thanks. I am not that competent on DIY so will keep looking out for other used sales.
krakatana
There is finally a lower cost AOIP Dante converter coming out, the Radio Design Labs SF-ND2. "Only" goes to 96kHz however. http://www.rdlnet.com/product.php?page=886 http://www.markertek.com/product/rdl-sf-nd2/rdl-sf-nd2-network-to-digital-audio-interface

Dave the Rave
Could not find much feedback and reviews on the Radio Design Labs SF-ND2 (AES/EBU out via ethernet feed) Anyone had any experience with it? If not, any other latest AOIP options (low cost for try out)?
