Now I want the real thing! Pink Floyd "Animals" 2016 remaster, Dutch pressing.

SNAP! That same thing has happened to me a number of times - including this very album. I'm 99% certain I owned them, but nowhere to be seen!

I often wonder how this stuff disappears.  I had a small collection of good vinyl from the first "vinyl revival" in the 1990s that included The Clouds double 45 "Cloud Factory", a white vinyl re-issue of the Velvet Underground "Banana" LP and some P-Funk and other things.  No idea where they went on the move out of Sydney to up here.  I have a faint suspicion her indoors deliberately left a box of "my junk" out of the truck but I know I would never have deliberately thrown them out.

Starting the day with some folksy-pop from Bob Lind whose song "Elusive Butterfly" was a hit for Glen Campbell.

Original Windham Hill pressing from the 90’s. Very quiet and superb sounding. First time it’s been played in 18 years or so.

It does look pretty good mate, thanks for all your help. 👍

I had @Yamaha_man around for a very brief listen to the TNT yesterday, he thought it was sounding ok, maybe I’m being a little fussy about the noises I’m getting. 😁

Ahem, that’s limited edition “blood red “ vinyl not pink. 🤣🤣🤘🤘

No complaints here about the way it sounded. The entire system was impressive. Highly recommended setup.

Thanks again fir your hospitality Dave . 👌🏻

David Bowie ‎– Metrobolist (Nine Songs By David Bowie)  - 2020 - the Visconti mix - a bit controversial .  Sounds excellent and a nice alternative to the original mix.  Sounds in a different universe to the crappy digital reissues of 2016.

A little reward for doing some actual work this morning:

Lloyd Cole and the Commotions - Easy Pieces

To a suburban, pretentious teenager good old Lloyd Cole sounded so worldly wise, as if he was spitting truth about adult relationships and work and cigarettes and too much wine.  In retrospect he wasn't much more than a pretentious young adult himself but it's still good.  "Rattlesnakes" might be marginally better but this is worth a spin.

His first solo album from 1990 (which I only have on CD) is an absolute ripper though - he did grow up eventually but the haircut on the front is worth googling up, it's just awful.  Now I think he's just a grumpy old golf playing dude who dabbles in electronica and making fun of university students when it suits him.

Jackson Brown - The Pretender

The only Mofi pressing I have - lovely sounding record I can see why people treasure them so much.  Shame the sleeve is a bit beaten up, the record itself looks unplayed.

PJ Harvey ‎– To Bring You My Love - 1995 original Euro pressing.  joining in :)  this album absolutely kicks butt with PJ's angst and aggression - good to hear the reissue sounds good as the original is insanely superb pressed on 100gm vinyl.

Kris Kristofferson - Me and Bobby McGee

Jackson Browne - Hold Out

Wikipedia says "Hold Out" is Jackson Browne's biggest selling album.  It's hard to see why, it just kind of drifts past without leaving much of an impression.  There is no great "My name is Jackson Browne and I am here to kick you in the guts" songs like "Late for the sky" or "The Pretender", the title track is paint by numbers Browne and the rest of it kind of sounds like he is doing Jackson Browne like things but has forgotten why.

The Kristofferson record - I think it's easy to forget just what a fine songwriter he is when overshadowed by a pretty awful acting career.  The cover is as worn out as his voice sounds on this record but it's fantastic.  Too many great songs to mention on here but "Sunday Mornin' Comin' Down" and "Me and Bobby McGee" on vinyl are essential.  If you've only heard the Janis Joplin version, this one is world weary and so evocative you can just about smell the diesel and the dirty red bandanna.  It's such a damn simple song pretty much anybody can learn it on the guitar and I recommend you do!

Ironically, it's probably one of Jackson's least admired albums but I found "Lives In The Balance" to be one of his best apart from the song "Candy" which I can take or leave.

The 2nd last track, "Till I Go Down" is one of his best ever IMHO.

2014 vinyl release by Jack White

This "Ultra LP" release features several special features:

      · Tracks A6 and B7 are locked grooves featuring elements from their respective previous tracks. "High Ball Stepper" doesn't end with a faded-out distortion as in the digital versions, it is locked instead.
      · Tracks A7 and B8 are hidden tracks pressed on their sides' labels, and play at 78 RPM and 45 RPM respectively, thus making the LP a three speed record.
      · Side A's groove is inverted and plays from the inside out.
      · "Just One Drink" consists of two different intros, each in its own groove, with both connecting at the body of the song. BA1 is acoustic, BB1 is electric.
      · Side B has a matte finish, giving the appearance of an un-played 78 RPM record.
      · Vinyl is pressed in flat-edged format.
      · Dead wax area on Side A contains a hand-etched hologram by Tristan Duke of Infinity Light Science, the first of its kind on a vinyl record.
      · Tracks B3 and B4 are swapped in comparison to the digital editions, and B2 features a slightly longer intro.
      · The vinyl was mastered entirely from analog sources with no additional compression used.

The album is culled from live recordings made at the Roxy Theatre on the Sunset Strip in Los Angeles, shows that celebrated the club's opening as part of Neil Young Tonight's the Night Tour 1973. Neil Young and the backing band he called the Santa Monica Flyers played two sets a night on September 20, 21, and 22, 1973, shortly after the band had finished recording Tonight's the Night.

So after finding myself in a music store with that old familiar joy of looking through vinyl albums I wanted to add a turntable to my setup. The Project X1  is what I was thinking I would dip my toe in with.

I have boxes of vinyl of classical from the old family home, but they are in average to poor condition. (but recordings I cannot get any more) So my question is:

If I am playing both new and old vinyl records,  am I going to destroy the needle? What do others here do about their original and mint collection without killing a $300 needle?

      Thanks!
