Something in jazz funk by a brilliant flutist

Artist - The Chris Hinze Combination

Title - Sister Slick
Album ID - https://www.discogs.com/The-Chris-Hinze-Combination-Sister-Slick/release/7909687

More info

Chris Hinze Combination was presented internationally 1971 in the Casino at Lake Geneva during the Montreux Jazz Festival. From then on Chris Hinze went on the road all over Europe. Mainly American musicians joined the Combination, like John Lee, Gary Brown, Charlie Mariano, James Batton, Kevin Eubanks and many others. As the setting changed through the years, 'Combination' turned out to be an extremely apropriate name, since Hinze is always searching for new influences, interacting with musicians from other cultures, changing members of the Chris Hinze Combination for new tours and albums.

Steve Winwood, this compilation focuses on his 80's work. Saw him in Adelaide years ago on a double bill with Donald Fagen. Rock royalty!!

Sorry for the radio silence.  Lots going on including wisdom teeth removal.  Fun times.

Luckily I received something in the mail this week which cheered me up.

Sam Smith - Love Goes.  This is the limited edition Target special sold in the USA with two bonus tracks which I quite enjoy.  Quite impressed with the quietness of the vinyl and SQ.

On the turntable now is a debut solo album from a founding member of the group Focus

Its also a newly acquired album for the collection

The genre is classical with a modern outlook incorporating the flute as the featured instrument

The album is well put together and hauntingly beautiful

This album is great and I believe is still available, grab it if you can, the music is beautiful.

I used it last night when I was testing some speakers. When I was done the salesman put it on the HiFi room which has among other cool stuff two Sonus Faber loudspeakers and 2 Mcintosh monoblocks and it was unreal

Its a US Curton pressing from about 20 years ago.   Just found out last night that Chris Bellman remastered this and 3 other albums in a box set $93  cheap as   - ordered.   Looks like the last 4 went overnight  - more to come.

Thanks for the tip MB. I also have the original pressings of Curtis and Roots. Spot on assessment of SQ. In spite of this, will most likely give the new issue a miss.

Still, keep us informed if it is a significant improvement. Never say never...

2014 vinyl release by Jack White

This "Ultra LP" release features several special features:

      · Tracks A6 and B7 are locked grooves featuring elements from their respective previous tracks. "High Ball Stepper" doesn't end with a faded-out distortion as in the digital versions, it is locked instead.
      · Tracks A7 and B8 are hidden tracks pressed on their sides' labels, and play at 78 RPM and 45 RPM respectively, thus making the LP a three speed record.
      · Side A's groove is inverted and plays from the inside out.
      · "Just One Drink" consists of two different intros, each in its own groove, with both connecting at the body of the song. BA1 is acoustic, BB1 is electric.
      · Side B has a matte finish, giving the appearance of an un-played 78 RPM record.
      · Vinyl is pressed in flat-edged format.
      · Dead wax area on Side A contains a hand-etched hologram by Tristan Duke of Infinity Light Science, the first of its kind on a vinyl record.
      · Tracks B3 and B4 are swapped in comparison to the digital editions, and B2 features a slightly longer intro.
      · The vinyl was mastered entirely from analog sources with no additional compression used.

So after finding myself in a music store with that old familiar joy of looking through vinyl albums I wanted to add a turntable to my setup. The Project X1  is what I was thinking I would dip my toe in with.

I have boxes of vinyl of classical from the old family home, but they are in average to poor condition. (but recordings I cannot get any more) So my question is:

If I am playing both new and old vinyl records,  am I going to destroy the needle? What do others here do about their original and mint collection without killing a $300 needle?

      Thanks!
