For those interested, the 50th anniversary edition releases tomorrow! I've ordered the CD set as it includes a Royal Albert Hall live album. From what I gather, they were in top form at RAH!

John Fogerty: Centerfield

I'm gob smacked at how quiet these records are after 30min in the ultrasonic tank... Seriously, seriously good investment on the DIY front... checkout the thread on here for tips & pointers.. most of my collection is starting to sound like it just came out of the wrapper, I kid you not!!

Metallica: Kill em All

First LP I ever bought myself, 1984 at the tender age of 17. Record store in Adelaide that specialised in imports. Seem to recall this cost me a small fortune!!

Still pristine... the music of my Youth

Judie Tzuke.

Welcome to the Cruise

Shoot the Moon

I remember Molly Meldrum getting very excited about "Welcome to the Cruise" although you were never really sure whether he liked it or was just shilling for Elton John's record label.  Regardless, I like it a lot.  The follow up isn't quite as good and there is a live album here also somewhere as well (local 2nd hand record guy had all 3 albums from somebodies collection and I am a sucker, what can I say).

Wow, another one gone way too soon. What an absolute legend on the keys.

Paying homage to one of the best jazz fusion key board experts ever.

You will be sadly missed around chez prog.

If anyone that likes progressive rock and wants to dabble in the jazz fusion side of things, this album is one the highest rated of the genre.

You owe it to yourself to grab a copy of this excellent album. All killer, no filler as they say. Truly excellent songs from 4 total professionals playing their arses off.

You won't get this band straight away. Multiple plays will reward you immensely.

R.I.P Chick and thanks for the fantastic music over so many decades.

Just found this live clip of the band so I've added it now. An excellent version.....

Just noticed that Frank Gambale and Jean Luc Ponty have been with the band since 2010. I never knew dat!

Thanks to @Digital Man, every good Elvis album in one hit.

My personal favourite pictured (From Elvis in Memphis) - a record he made after the '68 comeback special.  However there is a mass of riches in this astonishing pile of vinyl - basically every good record Elvis made and the only one really missing is "Something for Everybody" but included the first album, the incredible comeback '68 record, the Sun Sessions, the fantastic double From Memphis to Vegas / Back in Memphis.

A pile of soundtrack albums too (Flaming Star, Fun in Acapulco, Blue Hawaii), the "Elvis in the 70's" compilation and most of the 1970s output as well.  An incredible haul.

If you think you don't like Elvis, I'd recommend firing up "Long Black Limousine" from "From Elvis in Memphis" and get a feeling of how much wasted talent got squandered in making stupid films in the 1960s.

Supertramp - Crime Of The Century. 33rpm on MFSL label. I thought Hector's @hlov Audiophile copy I heard on Saturday at John's place @scuzzii was pretty good, but the MoFi pressing really takes some beating.:thumb:

Hear it to believe it :), Greg mentioned that the MoFi was great, hope we can do an A/B comparison one day

Hi All,

The Story Of Genesis - Genesis, 1978 Japanese Pressing LP, #1 of 2. It includes songs from every album they released on the Charisma Records label from 1970 to 1978 in chronological order. And the selection of the songs is very representative of their best music from those years.

It is a good entry into Genesis, giving an interesting spread of material in this period.

2014 vinyl release by Jack White

This "Ultra LP" release features several special features:

      · Tracks A6 and B7 are locked grooves featuring elements from their respective previous tracks. "High Ball Stepper" doesn't end with a faded-out distortion as in the digital versions, it is locked instead.
      · Tracks A7 and B8 are hidden tracks pressed on their sides' labels, and play at 78 RPM and 45 RPM respectively, thus making the LP a three speed record.
      · Side A's groove is inverted and plays from the inside out.
      · "Just One Drink" consists of two different intros, each in its own groove, with both connecting at the body of the song. BA1 is acoustic, BB1 is electric.
      · Side B has a matte finish, giving the appearance of an un-played 78 RPM record.
      · Vinyl is pressed in flat-edged format.
      · Dead wax area on Side A contains a hand-etched hologram by Tristan Duke of Infinity Light Science, the first of its kind on a vinyl record.
      · Tracks B3 and B4 are swapped in comparison to the digital editions, and B2 features a slightly longer intro.
      · The vinyl was mastered entirely from analog sources with no additional compression used.

Roxy: Tonight's the Night Live is a live album by Canadian musician Neil Young. The album is culled from live recordings made at the Roxy Theatre on the Sunset Strip in Los Angeles, shows that celebrated the club's opening as part of Neil Young Tonight's the Night Tour 1973. Neil Young and the backing band he called the Santa Monica Flyers played two sets a night on September 20, 21, and 22, 1973, shortly after the band had finished recording Tonight's the Night.

So after finding myself in a music store with that old familiar joy of looking through vinyl albums I wanted to add a turntable to my setup. The Project X1  is what I was thinking I would dip my toe in with.

I have boxes of vinyl of classical from the old family home, but they are in average to poor condition. (but recordings I cannot get any more) So my question is:

If I am playing both new and old vinyl records,  am I going to destroy the needle? What do others here do about their original and mint collection without killing a $300 needle?

      Thanks!
