Cheers Hector.  I have it and a great album it is.           Thanks to @evil c   Donald Fagen - The Nightfly    Mofi one step release.   High standard

Now I want the real thing! Pink Floyd "Animals" 2016 remaster, Dutch pressing.

The Alan Parsons Project - Eye In The Sky. 45rpm 2LP 35th Anniversary Edition on Arista. Very good SQ on this album and would be the best I've heard this sound. thanks John @scuzzii

Didn't realise how many of these tracks I knew!  Slight noise floor issue but SQ in general is excellent.  Vinyl really brings a warmth to this album - couldn't listen to his any other way now.

I have this one as well - noticed some surface noise too but overall OK.

Nice one.

The recent half speed masters from Abbey Road are very good as well.

Just curious,  is there a reason that you have the cover down when playing..?  I'd have thought that would add some noise/vibration.

I look forward to hearing this when I visit next w/e, Chris.  :thumb:

And I'll bring along a couple of my BM 'faves', in case you haven't heard them:

  • "Catch a Fire"
  • and Bill Laswell's (ambient dub) take on a couple of BM songs - "Dreams of Freedom".

The Avalanches - Since I Left You

Still very impressive what they did with this - can’t imagine how long it would have taken.

One of my top ten sonic experiences is the 5 channel mix on SACD of the Dire Straits album "Brothers In Arms".....it is truly brilliant.....so last night I 'sweet spot' listened to the entire album in stereo with my recently purchased 2014 Back to Black remastered reissued LP (French pressing).

I must say, it is right up there in terms of SQ.....a little different to the SACD of course but still quite brilliant. May not go quite as low bass wise but still packs a serious punch and detail and clarity are certainly not lacking. As I said in an earlier post, it is not a super quiet pressing but it matters little once the music is in full swing. Really really impressed with this reissue.

Spinning one of today's LP purchases, Crash Test Dummies "God Shuffled His Feet" 2019 German repress.

Been wanting this on vinyl for ages....used to thrash the CD back in the day but haven't played it for years.....been waiting for this.

Sounds very nice, great bass, nicely balanced SQ and lovely to hear the deep dulcet tones of Brad Roberts again.

A beautiful uplifting album.

Onto today's other purchase, Tears For Fears "Songs From The Big Chair" 2014 reissue, German pressing. Sounds pretty good so far, everything in the right place. Plenty of nice memories being evoked with this one.

I have been looking at this album too, is this the censored or uncensored version? Good to know that this is a nice pressing - seems there are some naff ones out there..............which is why I have not purchased it yet..........

Icehouse - Primitive Man.

Picked this up along with the Flowers/Icehouse album today, had both on cassette as a teenager.  Just doesn't sound right on CD or on the streaming services but I can't put my finger on why - I think there is something weird going on with the way I remember it sounding (it was either compressed as hell on FM radio or that over-played and hissy cassette I used to have).  Either way, it's a glorious copy of the thing, cost me $30 but worth every cent.

Unfortunately the receipt got texted to the ministry of finance so I got busted.  She once fitted musicians earplugs to Iva Davies and describes the encounter in a very unflattering manner.

2014 vinyl release by Jack White

This "Ultra LP" release features several special features:

      · Tracks A6 and B7 are locked grooves featuring elements from their respective previous tracks. "High Ball Stepper" doesn't end with a faded-out distortion as in the digital versions, it is locked instead.
      · Tracks A7 and B8 are hidden tracks pressed on their sides' labels, and play at 78 RPM and 45 RPM respectively, thus making the LP a three speed record.
      · Side A's groove is inverted and plays from the inside out.
      · "Just One Drink" consists of two different intros, each in its own groove, with both connecting at the body of the song. BA1 is acoustic, BB1 is electric.
      · Side B has a matte finish, giving the appearance of an un-played 78 RPM record.
      · Vinyl is pressed in flat-edged format.
      · Dead wax area on Side A contains a hand-etched hologram by Tristan Duke of Infinity Light Science, the first of its kind on a vinyl record.
      · Tracks B3 and B4 are swapped in comparison to the digital editions, and B2 features a slightly longer intro.
      · The vinyl was mastered entirely from analog sources with no additional compression used.

So after finding myself in a music store with that old familiar joy of looking through vinyl albums I wanted to add a turntable to my setup. The Project X1  is what I was thinking I would dip my toe in with.

I have boxes of vinyl of classical from the old family home, but they are in average to poor condition. (but recordings I cannot get any more) So my question is:

If I am playing both new and old vinyl records,  am I going to destroy the needle? What do others here do about their original and mint collection without killing a $300 needle?

      Thanks!
