Hi All,

Lost In Kiev is a laid back instrumental album from French band, Persona from Paris.

No, did have the VHS when I was a kid but it got nicked by my sisters boyfriend - it has a few racy versions of the videos on it.  I got my first laserdisc player from the tip shop about 10 years ago and this was the first LD I tracked down 🙂

...and some not Duran Duran but certainly were ploughing that furrow.

Kids in the Kitchen - Bitter Desire 12"

Hard to describe just how *loud* this thing is - it pegs the levels on the tape player in monitor mode and never lets up.  Plenty of boomy bass in it too I guess one of the advantages of 45rpm 12 inchers is that you can push the dynamics a bit more and whoever mastered it just turned up everything to 11.  Didn't care much for them back in the day but this was in the $1 bin at my local 2nd hand record guy shop and I couldn't resist it  It's growing on me.

Finally an album I've wanted for a very long time which I saw come up in great condition for a reasonable price.  Japanese pressing (despite no obi).  To say i'm excited about playing this is a massive understatement.

Fleetwood Mac - Tango in the Night

SQ = wow.  I'm sitting on my couch in awe.  Such beautiful album art too.

Pink Floyd Delicate sound of thunder, produced by DG. Really well done and it sounds great. I don’t know why they didn’t play echoes here

Sniff'n' the Tears - Fickle Heart

Weird album cover - it's not too bad MOR not a million miles from LRB or Boz Scaggs.  Despite being a one hit wonder kinda deal,  Drivers Seat is still bangin'

edit:  not LRB, more like a twee Richard Clapton.

Bob Dylan - Hard Rain

20201202_125718-01.jpeg

I have suggested this before but if you are interested have a listen to the unreleased 1 st version of Idiot Wind

Then the Blood On The Tracks version

And then the Hard Rain one

It goes from an unfriendly song

To an angry song

To vitriolic

Its a demonstration of what a great singer Dylan is  and how he can use his voice to change a song from one thing to another in the space of 12 months

Everything with Bob is a work in progress so to speak 😀

Awesome for those who don’t want the entire early (pre-rubber soul) albums - like me, or if you want a good taste of AAA Beatles without popping down the $100-$300 they now cost.

Hi All,

The Flaming Lips, Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots. If you want to hear/buy an album by the Flaming Lips, this is the best intro into their music.

2014 vinyl release by Jack White

This "Ultra LP" release features several special features:

      · Tracks A6 and B7 are locked grooves featuring elements from their respective previous tracks. "High Ball Stepper" doesn't end with a faded-out distortion as in the digital versions, it is locked instead.
      · Tracks A7 and B8 are hidden tracks pressed on their sides' labels, and play at 78 RPM and 45 RPM respectively, thus making the LP a three speed record.
      · Side A's groove is inverted and plays from the inside out.
      · "Just One Drink" consists of two different intros, each in its own groove, with both connecting at the body of the song. BA1 is acoustic, BB1 is electric.
      · Side B has a matte finish, giving the appearance of an un-played 78 RPM record.
      · Vinyl is pressed in flat-edged format.
      · Dead wax area on Side A contains a hand-etched hologram by Tristan Duke of Infinity Light Science, the first of its kind on a vinyl record.
      · Tracks B3 and B4 are swapped in comparison to the digital editions, and B2 features a slightly longer intro.
      · The vinyl was mastered entirely from analog sources with no additional compression used.

Roxy: Tonight's the Night Live is a live album by Canadian musician Neil Young. The album is culled from live recordings made at the Roxy Theatre on the Sunset Strip in Los Angeles, shows that celebrated the club's opening as part of Neil Young Tonight's the Night Tour 1973. Neil Young and the backing band he called the Santa Monica Flyers played two sets a night on September 20, 21, and 22, 1973, shortly after the band had finished recording Tonight's the Night.

So after finding myself in a music store with that old familiar joy of looking through vinyl albums I wanted to add a turntable to my setup. The Project X1  is what I was thinking I would dip my toe in with.

I have boxes of vinyl of classical from the old family home, but they are in average to poor condition. (but recordings I cannot get any more) So my question is:

If I am playing both new and old vinyl records,  am I going to destroy the needle? What do others here do about their original and mint collection without killing a $300 needle?

      Thanks!
