AMP power thoughts

Hey guys 

just after some help

i have amphion krypton2 speakers, do u think a amp with 135w  at 8ohm can be used to play them??

Given it clearly says 4 ohms on the back of the speakers ... it depends what your amp which you say delivers "135w into 8 ohms", can deliver into 4 ohms and 2 ohms.

 

I mention 2 ohms because speaker impedances can often be lower than the 'nominal' figure.  So if the mfr states '4 ohms' ... the speaker may well drop below this at some frequencies.

 

Whether an amp can deliver at 4 or 2 ohms depends on how beefy the amp's PS is.  There are amps (with great PSes!) which deliver 'x' into 8 ohms ... '2x' into 4 ohms ... and '4x' into 2 ohms.  An amp like this would drive those Amphion speakers well.

 

But there are also amps which deliver 'x' into 8 ohms ... '1.2x' into 4 ohms ... and blow up with a 2 ohm load!  :(  An amp like this would not be suitable.
