AFL 2017 & 2018 - In memory of Nude

Recommended Posts

I can't believe we are half way through January and no one has started a thread on the footy.

Nude would be spinning in his grave

So, I'll get started. Is it too soon for me to book in an "Essendon, 17 in 17" tattoo?

An interesting season shaping up.

Can the Bullies back it up or will they dip away?

Will Hawthorn continue to slide or has Clarko got some magic up his sleeve?

Will the rising Dees and Saints do enough to step into the 8?

What will Essendon be capable of?

How high will Freo's bounce take them after a season of *coughtankingcough*

Probably the most interesting pre-season for a while IMO as the spell of the Hawks looks to have been broken at this stage and the Bulldogs won from an improbable position rather than a dominant one. It really feels wide open.

Essendon have had a year of blooding new players who really didn't do that badly. If the other players who (are left) have been out last year have kept up they may have a surprisingly good year.

I hope not..

As a long-suffering Richmond supporter, it was nice to see the Tigers off to a promising start to 2017 last night.

For this game expect to hear later this year, "D. Martin...3 votes."

I'll enjoy the ladder as it stands today while it lasts! :party

To be fair you guys often start with a bang. That was pretty impressive last night.

I'd love to see the Tiges have a cracking year, the supporters deserve it.  Dusty is a superb footballer, Richmond did well to keep him.

Tonight's game was a good paced and intense one.  Dogs' hands were superb...good to see they're still competitive first game back after the GF.  Pies did well considering absences of Elliott, Wells (is he ever on the park???), De Goey and Greenwood, but hoping Moore to take them far just yet is too great of an ask...and it must be Jessica White's last year, surely???

The Adelaide Crows Women team have won the AFLW Grand Final by beating the Brisbane Lions today :party:party:party. A big congratulations to the ladies involved for a job well done. :thumb:

You have got to be happy with Port upsetting Sydney tonight. Have the Power turned a corner?

Ross Lyon = dead man walking...

All we need now is for the board to say he has their full support.

They didn't have much opposition yesterday, Grumps but they did look good.

Having a lot of fun with the Dockers fans in the office this morning :P

Robbie Gray kicked 6!  I've clearly missed something along the way, but when did he move forward?

Amazing how many so called stars of the game are ordinary kicks. Jordan Lewis, Adam Treloar, half the Collingwood list (grrr), Patrick Dangerfield, Matt Suckling. A few of these guys need to learn being able to roost a long ball straight to the opposition isn't effective.

EDIT: The worst of all Dusty Martin (but doesn't seem to be blasting away this year)

Yep, although I do wonder whether some of these guys are simply following the coach's instructions to bomb it long into the forward line.

One of the biggest differences between the very best teams (and players) and the others, is the ability to remain composed, lift the eyes and deliver accurately. Sides that don't look and just bang away are simply turning it over to the opposition.

Some of the things that came out of Port's end of year review were that their woeful disposal efficiency was mainly due to their forward line set up and coach's instructions to just kick it long. That's also why they had the least marks in the forward 50.

No successful team these days can have a disposal efficiency average of under 70%. Otherwise you might as well be playing for the opposition.

Half these guys cough it up by missing targets 25-30m away though. Heard yesterday what is the point of playing Dangerfield forward when he has less than 50% accuracy rate.

More teams are trying to cut their way thru zone defence with short accurate kicks, but get it wrong in the corridor and you pay the price. It's delicate balancing act of wanting aggressive ball movement, but it's also high risk.

Ports efficiency for the last two years was deplorable. Their game was built around speed and carrying the ball but if you cant hit a target then that game plan goes out the window.

It is often astounding how badly AFL players kick though. Even the best.

Pfft, you beat up on a TAC cup team. 7 teenagers in the Carlton team, it looked like a practice game there was so little pressure. Did anybody cop a bruise last night? *I only saw the 2nd half*
