Ripping DVDs onto iMac

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

no love in my other thread, so ill ask a slightly different question.

What are iMac/Mac users using to rip dvds on to the computers? specificly for playback through itunes to Apple TV?

I have MacX, but not sure of the playback quality at this early stage

cheers

I use windows not mac. Not sure if suitable for mac, but I use...

DVDfab - copy all my DVD's to server and play through WDtv live to my receiver. Pretty happy with PQ and SQ.

DVD Audio extractor - gave this a go to rip my music DVD's to stereo to play through my HIFI system. Good results but a bit of messing around, for me not good enough to purchase after trial was up.

Cheers

Dave

Ok it's been a while since I used handbrake but from memory it needs VLC to run properly I think have a read of the info it works fine usually. A restart should fix the disc drive.

happy 2017!

What is VLC?

what settings are people using in Handbrake to get the best end result?

what is the procedure after Handbrake? is it > iFlicks > iTunes?

cheers

Another happy Handbrake user here, it's also been a while since I installed it but recall having to download some additional files to make it work on newer versions of OSX... I don't have VLC installed but perhaps VLC installs the same files I downloaded separately.

VLC is probably the best free media player available it works in conjunction with Handbrake somehow.

Settings wise for VLC there are tutorials they are very comprehensive however the default settings are quite adequate MP4 is the preferred for Mac, MKV for everything else there is no difference in quality.
