Willmax
Looking to build some speaker stands for my Yamaha NS series speakers. Which stand design in your opinion has the best looks and will do the best job? Comments are welcome. Thanks in advance.
Sierra
Looks are purely subjective ... A good rule of thumb is make them heavy and solid. Build them out of steel and the heavier the better

THOMO
How about these ones I made in ebonised jarrah? These are with NS75TS which have identical dimensions to the NS1000s.They also sound much better!

kelossus
I always liked the stands Kenrick Sound make. I think they are very similiar to the original stands NS1000 stands.
Guest
I used to use Linn Isobarik stands with mine. The width and height just happened to be spot on

The model number is SPS-500 and you can still get them from Japan if you like them or build your own. http://www.hifido.co.jp/KWyamaha/G1/E/30-10/C16-07558-13413-00/

Ancientflatulence
Each stand weighs 45kg ........... so I only filled them with kitty litter so that the tube was not empty ............ ........ I hate to think what they would weigh with lead shot ........
Willmax
^Did you make them yourself?

I hate to think what they would weigh with lead shot ........ Now that's what I'm talking about! ... nice and solid These are the stands I built for my previous speakers ... I don't have the speakers any more but still have the stands. By comparison they are only 220mm high but also weigh 45kg. The base is 25mm mild steel ... the post is 75mm heavy wall RHS filled with lead shot ... and the top plate is 50mm mild steel ... spiked of course
Ancientflatulence
My stands are home made ....... and painted (which sadly is fairly obvious) .......... must get them powdercoated one day ........ 9 hours ago, Sierra said: Now that's what I'm talking about! ... nice and solid These are the stands I built for my previous speakers ... There IS no such thing as overkill ............. I had a fair idea your stands were home made ... you don't find stands that solid in a store. How did you make your legs ... cut and welded or did you have access to a big ar$e break press? Yep ... nothing wrong with overkill ...
Ancientflatulence
Cut and welded 100 x 25 flat .... trying to bend it at a certain point with that taper would be a pain ..... and unless you have a well designed die setup you usually end up with crush marks which have to be linished off ......
JPete9
Mine are a like a box tipped on its side...then fill it with records...i've posted some pics on here before. SIMPLE to make. Easy to make solid if you need to. https://1drv.ms/i/s!AvYNQeOv4wIlg9dLb0ynBjr5rIXmHQ Edited December 1, 2016 by JPete9
Guest jakeyb77
I followed this thread: http://liquidaudio.com.au/diy-yamaha-ns1000m-speaker-stands/ All wood was chopped to size for free at Bunnings. Glued the tops together and sanded back and gave an undercoat and a couple of coats of gloss black. Use a foam roller. I then used some Sorbothane pads to rest the speakers on. Solid as a rock and looked the part. Edited November 30, 2016 by jakeyb77
Dave the Rave
@Jakeyb77 Thanks for this link. I am going to build my new stand a it looks fairly easy. My NS1000x stands on a makeshift light stand at 30cm height. What is the optimum height? Heard it should be between 30-50 cm.
