For years I’ve been reading about people scoring bargain basement deals through the used goods marketplaces in various forums. I read most of the post purchase comments to these posts, and there are q

I just picked up a new Luxman PD171A with a Ortofon PWti cartridge

Nothing more than an indulgence purely for the aesthetics. Soulines U-Base to compliment the Kubrick DCX.

something I’ll need when I order a new cart.

I've also vinyl on the way: Beck’s Morning Phase and Bruce Hornsby and the Range’s Scenes from the Southside.

My new turntable stand arrived today.

it’s actually a Moon side table from Harvey Norman.

when we moved into our current place, we got the matching coffee table, side table and dining suite and all the time, I kept thinking that if I ever got back into vinyl, what a great stand the side table would make - it’s rigid, light weight, spikeable, easy to level, and I think it looks pretty cool.

well, a house move is likely later this year. There will be no more entertainment unit between the speakers and my electronics will be going back into the Cyrus Hark v1 stand. I recently picked up a Rega TT and this stand is perfect for it once it has my *pro-light foamed board bolted to the top. IsoAcoustics footers on top of that will then support the turntable.

*Pro-light is a foamed PVC material with a laminate skin on each side, similar in concept to the Rega P8, etc TT plinth material. It’s much lighter than MDF and is ideal for equipment platforms.

also, this Bruce Hornsby and the Range album arrived today.

Not purchased for a quality production but more the feels.

Bought the Funk Firm Houdini today.

Tried it with two cartridges: EAT Jo No 8 and Benz LPS, with the rest of my system comprising the Classic 301 table and Micro Seiki 808 tonearm.

The improvement was has been instant. The greatest impact was in terms of depth of image and placing of instruments. The soloing instrument was brought forward in space, while the others we still very accurately placed within a much larger 3D image. The stability of this image was also improved.

If there was one negative, it would possible be a slightly enhanced surface noise of a record, i.e. the hum in between tracks.

In any case, the positives significantly outweigh the possible (still to be confirmed) negatives, so the Houdini is a keeper.

Where did you manage to score the box set for $90? The cheapest I’ve been able to find a copy for is $130.

Purchased recently via Discogs, Devo "Now It Can Be Told" US 1st pressing (Specialty Records), a 3 sided double live album. Great show, I have it on CD but this should be fun.....:thumb:

the bottom end gained a lot more weight with the Tango Spinner bits (bearing sleeve, ceramic bearing, sub and delrin/alloy platter. Probably too much.

The Michell delrin clamp also delivered today cleaned and leaned things up again.

plus, the table needed a little green to match up with the Cyrus pre and tuner.

cart next.

Arrived today, the Fleetwood Mac Rumours best pressing threat inspired me to purchase, I’ve always wanted a great pressing of this album, a clean before a listen to determine if it is worth the price tag.

Yes, they are AS edition, but yet to play them as my gears are in Sydney. According to shop owner, he said recording is really good.

If yours emits the same noise as mine, you might be wanting to lock it in another room at the other end of the house ?
