I hope it gives me a better appreciation of it than the Transatlantic album had on first hearing.

Curtis Mayfield ‎– Keep On Keeping On: Curtis Mayfield Studio Albums 1970-1974.  4LP box set for $90.  bargin, mastered by Chris Bellman and pressed @ Optimal.   look forward to listening to this :thumb:      first Curtis album was dished, so have to wait for it to flatten.

That's a bit tempting. I don't have any of those on LP. Interested to hear how they are. Great albums, especially the first two, and Sweet Exorcist is funky as. I get it's 'studio albums' but I reckon it's a bit of a pity they didn't fit Curtis/Live! and Superfly in the set. He was on fire for awhile there

I have played the first two albums and they are excellent.  The first album is light years better than my other US pressing.

  well worth it imo.

My new turntable stand arrived today.

it’s actually a Moon side table from Harvey Norman.

when we moved into our current place, we got the matching coffee table, side table and dining suite and all the time, I kept thinking that if I ever got back into vinyl, what a great stand the side table would make - it’s rigid, light weight, spikeable, easy to level, and I think it looks pretty cool.

well, a house move is likely later this year. There will be no more entertainment unit between the speakers and my electronics will be going back into the Cyrus Hark v1 stand. I recently picked up a Rega TT and this stand is perfect for it once it has my *pro-light foamed board bolted to the top. IsoAcoustics footers on top of that will then support the turntable.

*Pro-light is a foamed PVC material with a laminate skin on each side, similar in concept to the Rega P8, etc TT plinth material. It’s much lighter than MDF and is ideal for equipment platforms.

also, this Bruce Hornsby and the Range album arrived today.

Not purchased for a quality production but more the feels.

Bought the Funk Firm Houdini today.

Tried it with two cartridges: EAT Jo No 8 and Benz LPS, with the rest of my system comprising the Classic 301 table and Micro Seiki 808 tonearm.

The improvement was has been instant. The greatest impact was in terms of depth of image and placing of instruments. The soloing instrument was brought forward in space, while the others we still very accurately placed within a much larger 3D image. The stability of this image was also improved.

If there was one negative, it would possible be a slightly enhanced surface noise of a record, i.e. the hum in between tracks.

In any case, the positives significantly outweigh the possible (still to be confirmed) negatives, so the Houdini is a keeper.

Where did you manage to score the box set for $90? The cheapest I’ve been able to find a copy for is $130.

Not sue why a hum has been introduced - mine is whisper quiet.
