stevoz
A few 'op shop' scores today....(can't be bothered finding the 'Op Shop Score!' thread). Firstly, Sade's 'Stronger Than Pride' (Oz 1st pressing) but inner cover and LP only, no main cover. Sounds quite ok, but needs Revirginizing. Secondly, a 'memorial' double album of Glenn Miller's jazz (again $2 and it looks in NM condition).... I used to listen to the school band at Frankston Tech when I was in Form 1(my only year there) belting out Glenn Miller tracks while rehearsing at lunchtimes. Enjoyed it a lot....one of the former members of the band behind Australia's version of GM, Graeme Bell, was a teacher there at the time.....his name was Ade Monsborough or 'Lazy Ade Monsborough', a lovely man and a bit of an Oz jazz legend. Thirdly, I bought a new re-release copy of this next one a few years back as I could not find an original as it's quite rare and low and behold, I'm flicking through all the crap and this pops out at me. A NZ 1st pressing of The Modern Lovers self titled debut album! WOW! I check the LP itself and it's looking pretty clean and physically in good shape.....excitement rises further!! I'm confident an RV peel will get this one sounding fine.....time will tell.....and yep, $2. Op Shops....they're a lottery but sometimes you just pick the right day.
