I have repaired and/or restored quite a few Sansui Amps and receivers from 1968 vintage through to mid 90's. Not doing any more restorations until the new year, but repairs can be arranged. Well worth acquiring if you have the opportunity to do so. A resto on the AU-20000 is a biiiiiig job! Sadly, I'm also unable to undertake further audio resto until deep into 2017 due to existing commitments, and a significant slow-down in my audio workbench's output due to career progression and family commitments/priorities. gemini07 Posted February 6, 2017 Share Posted February 6, 2017 Hi all, Does anyone know of a reputable Sansui amp repairer in SA? I have a AU7500 that has just decided to play only via one channel. No burnout smells, flashes, smoke etc. Just 'mono'. I think the deterioration might have been gradual - over a few days. I bought the unit late last year from a hobbyist who said that it had recently been 'serviced' and it certainly looks immaculate. I got my Sansui TU 9900 tuner fixed by skippy124 in Sydney. I double boxed with additional foam packing and so did he. I mention this because it all did work out, assuming you may have reservations about interstate. The Audia Flight gear (CDP and Amp) go very well with the vintage Missions, and I'm very happy to keep that combination. Cheers John Hi John & Other Forum fellows I just joined in the hope that I can find someone (preferable here in Brisbane but that might be next to impossible) to repair my Sansui AU-555 which I have owned from new in 1968. I have not used it for a few years but had counted on it to power some ceiling speakers I just put in my indoor-outdoor room that was just given a bit of a facelift. I'm hoping for a quick repair or else I might just have to forget the old girl - regrettably I don't have time on my side with a terminal illness with no cure. Had hoped to plug it in and it just worked as before - but no. Just wanted to leave a working system for family :-( PROBLEM/S: 1) It has lost the LEFT channel all together (although both channels come out of the preamp ports when the link bars are removed. This happened TWICE before over the years and was fixed (for a while) with ONE (or two) components replaced by an old Philips TV repairer who has since moved away (and unfortunately on the last occasion circa 2005 he failed to return the Circuit Schematic! As I recall the components were on the small PCB behind the two LEFT Tone pots for Treble and Bass. 2) On my inspecting the boards this time and using some electrical displacement spray I discovered that the RIGHT Tone pot is dodgey inside and if you rotate it while the Amplified RIGHT (only working) channel is playing it seems to short/surge and there is a POP in the LEFT (strange) speaker and then the RIGHT speaker drops back to about 10% volume output (some sort of circuit protection I guess) and then after being turned off and Plug pulled from the wall for 5 minutes the RIGHT channel returns to "normal". This can be repeated and is the same every time. So I presume? that there are two problems - one maybe a new Rotary pot is needed. But to fix the "mIssing" LEFT channel I presume? those same components as last time need replacing - BUT there might be another Main AMP issue that causes them to blow. I have a "lay" suspicion that there could be a problem in the rotary POT that Balances L & R (Could this be the actual cause of a missing LEFT channel?) As you can see I need someone with experience on this type of problem and these amps. Any suggestions? Or offers? I will pay a fair price if I can get it reliably repaired and quite quickly. Sorry to want the earth. He is situated right above Mike Lenehan, actually renting out the room above Mikes office. He has plenty of experience so I have high hopes that he can effectively treat all that ails my Sansui. My NAD and Bladelius are good too but I've decided to let the MF go, Andy was saying that it could be fixed but it probably wouldn't last very long before something else went so I decided to have it "put to sleep". Now I just have to drive back down to Brissy again to pick them up (and to shed a tear for the recently departed). Oh, and to drop another amp off that I forgot about the first time, that's always the way isn't it? Just when you think you've loaded them all into the car it turns out you've left one behind. To date AU-101, AU-222, AU-417, A-40, AU-555, AU-555A, AU-5500, AU-7900, AU-7500, AU-8500. Haven't encountered the giants of the species yet.
