Zumbo's Just Desserts

Recommended Posts

Come on, who's been watching it?

After the relentless ads for it....it was almost impossible not to check it out.

It's a bit of a drag though isn't it.....?

Been glancing at it a bit.....sure, the set is cutesy and Willy Wonka-ish, Zumbo makes insane desserts and Rachel Khoo is cute (not sure why they need that third "assistant" running around distracting the contestants.....but anyway) and the whole premise for the show is probably not bad.

Or is it?

Is everything compared to Masterchef and MKR these days?

I dunno....it's just....not....that good :(

You could almost save yourself the hassle and just watch the ads for it as they show all the good bits anyway.

How many times have we seen that hovering dessert that looks like a hat FFS.

Magnets.

Betcha.

Meh

And the slow motion footage and the Woosh Woosh sound every time they show the clock got old very fast.

It's not 24, it's a cooking show.

And before you (Davidro) start googling "hater" memes, I was actually looking forward to this show...a bit.

Yes.

A reality cooking show.

Mhm.

But it just falls flat.

Which is a bit strange to be honest.

Pokemon Go.....anyone?

:P

I've just been watching The Bachelor and the New Survivor of late, and just found out the block started.

I might check out the Zumbo, but he ain't got no personality, so I'm guessing it's a tad meh.

Apparently the ratings are dropping fast as well.

Just wondering what they'll do if nobody watches it.

Do they pull it off air, or move it to a different time, or just show it on 7 Mate?

They can't just stop showing it, as it's a competition with $100.000 at stake, and they whole thing is most likely recorded already, if not most of it anyway.

So they can't just cancel it completely.

LOL, oh yes they can. Been done before - for some reason the name escapes me... They can finish it off during summer season when they run out of repeats.

It's just not appealing. People trying to create sweet stuff - urgh! Where's the balance in a dessert. We tried for the first episode to get interested and just don't have the TV on - except for reruns of River Monsters.

Right, but the winner will still get their moolah even if the show doesn't air?

Assuming it's all been filmed already

And if it's not all filmed, they'll finish the competition regardless?

Pretty much. Part of the contract. Although I'm guessing they probably didn't spend as much on advertising it as this one (all through the Olympics - and for such a terrible premise). But that's TV people for you. They think "we take some unknowns and make a cooking show with them - how much better would that be if we take a well known cook and make a TV show with them?". Ignoring that more than 50% of people don't really enjoy desserts. What happened to that BBQ show? Or the one where your recipe would be in Coles if you won? etc

They need Rachael Khoo there to do the personality stuff, as Zumbo is just boring.

Even Rachael doesn't seem to have any real personality, all her presentation seems very 'put on'.

Nope, I watched half an episode, not going to watch any more.

Cheers,

Jason.

Wall to wall 'floating hat' advert all through the Olympics with the words "This is no trick" ??  Not a 'trick' ?? If it's not a 'trick' then I guess I've missed out on floating food all these years.

Not enough to make me tune in even though I like to scoff at the Boobs and Batch and 'Aussie' Survivor on Samoa.

.

Not her kind of show maybe.....?

Seen her on the food channel where she does her own thing and she's a bit more relaxed.

Not a trick.

Just magic

(Or magnets)

:)

Heston did a floating thing in one of his dinner shows....a suspended lolly or something.

But that was an air jet coming up through the table I think.

I thinks the show has promise, it's a decent premise but Masterchef comparisons are inevitable. It falls short. While zumbo isn't exactly sprouting an intoxicating screen presence, the contestants are either decidedly vapid or that far up themselves they can't see daylight

It's just not exciting enough.

Editing maybe?

Dunno.

The contestants are...well...reality tv contestants.

The guy who looks like a young Tim Roth is clearly cast to be "the arrogant one" who still gets far.

Zumbo is not a TV personality, unfortunately.

They should ditch the pointless assistant and replace her with a Matt Preston type to liven up the other two a bit.

Rachel needs to wear more comfortable clothes so she can move....and less lipstick so she can eat properly

I've seen two episodes, and I think I'm about done.

Zumbo is boring.

The assistant is really cute, but her reporting back what she's just been told gets old fast.

The desserts' rating seems to depend on "the more flavours in one dish the better", or "it's better if it's fancier". One contestant was praised 'cause she had 9 flavour ingredients on one plate!

Zumbo is shy by nature and he should have been there as the resident specialist that comes and helps with added masterpieces

And a more experienced personality fronting the show

We have short attention spans so a more experienced presenter is needed to carry the show

Wow ......so after showing the floating dessert 6 million times and the surprised faces and someone saying "It's.....floating....." it was revealed how it works (no surprises there) in a rather tame way.

- so how does it work?

- magnets

*sound of crickets*

I don't really like this show.  It's been done badly.  Rachel's show I will watch sometimes and she is a Le Cordon Bleu trained pastry chef but this show bores me to tears.

If you want to see a really cool cooking story then watch The Chef's Table about Grant Achatz

I can't cotton onto the show. All that chocolate, sugar etc. I feel a need something savoury. I'm forcing myself to watch it 'cause the wife likes it.

Master Chief, MKR all better shows because there is more variety and balance.

But I'm a savoury man so I guess it makes sense. So what is next. How about Starters, Entrees, Nibblies and Snacks - SENS!
