FS: [Mel] B&W 603 S2 - For parts or repair

Recommended Posts

Item: Bowers and Wilkins (B&W) 603 S2 Floor standing

Location: Melbourne, Bulleen, 3105
Price: $100
Item Condition: Poor.
Reason for selling: They came with a Center I was after
Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only
Extra Info: For parts or restoration. These are damaged and partially working.

These are the 'S2' model with the Nautilus tweeter, regarded as the best of the 603 series.

+ Woofers work

+ Passive radiators work

Crossovers work

+ Cabinets themselves are in good - very good condition, no real damage / minor scratches.

- Tweeters do not work - The shieldings are missing but I believe the tweeter themselves are working. I see these pop up on eBay - I had a quote for 2 new tweeters for $145 Euro, delivered to Australia.

- One woofer is missing dust cover, and has damaged foam surround

- One speaker is missing one of the rear connections between the two terminals (currently has wire).

- No Grills

- Damage to one of the cabinet fascias

Perhaps someone can use these for parts? I'm pretty confident you could strip for parts and double your money.

Happy to remove components and you can have the cabinets FOR FREE if that suits.

Hi Simon,

the tweeter domes (ie. the moving part of the tweeter assembly which creates sound waves) are goneski, so they definitely won't work in their current state.

Nonetheless, as you say, there's plenty of value in the components of these speakers.

Correct, but they are (the diaphragm) a part you can buy and replace without replacing the entire tweeter assembly.

The quote I had was 145 Euro for 2 new diaphragms, delivered to AU.

There are also YouTube videos for replacing these https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QXIsqqTOwSM

Alternatively - replace the entire assembly, which would cost about double

I have a pair of 601 S2s with a blown bass driver. However the part codes are different (ZZ11428 s ZZ11436) - not sure if the driver itself differs. Just doing a bit more research but may be interested.

The drivers are smaller on the 601.

Also researched these are Series 1 not Series 2 B & W's. There is a replacement tweeter on ebay listed at the moment.

They are S2. S1 had a different bass driver and a round dustcap on the kevlar driver.

These are now stripped.

Cabinets (no drivers or fascia) are FREE, and then to dump

2 x working bass drivers

1 x working bass / midranges

1 x working bass / midrange (no dustcap and needs refoam)

Fascias

Just msg me if you want any of the above. Ill be in sydney next week and could bring items with me if required.
