Vwman01
Hi guys, I am looking to upgrade my front floorstanding speakers that I use for 2ch music / HT. I am currently using old sony SSU-290's and most of the drivers are torn / worn out. I have seen some amazing reviews on the Tekton Pendragon speakers. Unfortunately they are only sold from the US so I am unable to audition them before buying. Does anyone on here use these speakers? It would be great to hear what they sound like before committing to a (not inexpensive) purchase. Thanks!!
Ooogh
I do hope you get some replies there 01. A very interesting full range speaker with excellent efficiency. As you say well respected and affordable in the US but I have not seen or heard a pair in Australia. As you say that is a big roll of the dice by the time you landed such a large speaker over here. Have you had a look and listen to the Osbourn line of speakers? You may find a similar spec/cost speaker in his range and you can roll down to Melbourne for a proper listen. Good luck
rocky500
The tekton Pendragons look great. I would think you would not have much change left out of $4000 AU once you factor all the charges in. Edited April 1, 2016 by rocky500

Vwman01
Thanks for the replies guys. No I haven't heard of the Osbourn line of speakers. I'm pretty new to the stereo game. I was actually set on getting some Aperion grand verus towers but after reading reviews of the Pendragons, they appear to be in different leagues. Yes I was expecting about $3500-4000 by the time I get them here. The import duty charges will be the big gamble. I don't know how many extra hidden costs they will sting me with. Ooogh
Hello again vwman, They are big ticket items to gamble on with-out hearing them in the flesh. The relationship between your speakers and amplifier is so important in the realisation of the sound your system has. I would recommend hearing as many locally available speakers in your price range as possible before taking the plunge. Trust your own ears. That type of price opens up almost limitless options on the second hand market, just over the last few months numerous high quality speakers have been available on SNA. A used item limits your exposure to large financial losses, the real gamble is on new items which loose almost 50% of their value instantly. Think very carefully and remember it is all about getting the best sound you can for your dollar, it may require better amplifiers or source components , speakers are not an answer in and of themselves. Move slowly and listen to as many systems as you can, members love having get togethers so keep your eye out for ones in your area. Happy listening. Vwman01
Thanks Hugh, that is a good idea. I was hoping to find someone with these speakers already so I could hear what they sound like. I really haven't heard too many good quality speakers, I have been basing most of my information from reviews. I just know that I want something that sounds natural and lifelike. Something that sounds like the performer is actually in the room and gives you goosebumps when playing. I did consider maggies but I still want them to be dynamic enough for movies and the occasional reference level demo. The pendragons seemed to fit this criteria well. I agree with you on the relationship between the source components / amp / speakers, however in my case, speakers will be the biggest improvement on quality. This is because my SSU-290's are on their last legs! All off the original bass drivers were perished, 3 of them have been replaced, 1 is held together with sticky tape. Both midrange drivers are almost perished and one makes a horrible noise when around 500hz. But after upgrading to a demon X7200w and dual Emotiva mono blocks, and some careful tweaking, they still sound great to me! I can't wait to hear what actual good speakers sound like!
