Hi Guys

I am not well at the moment.

I have Bells Palsy (one side of your face gets paralysed) that I am only about 60% recovered from.  Because of that my eye was unable to blink and was open during sleep - it became very dry and I developed a corneal ulcer.  By applying lubricating eye ointment a lot during the day and before I went to sleep the ulcer healed in about a week but unfortunately my eye doctor noticed some corneal thinning where the ulcer was that concerned him.  The thinning can grow and perforate the eye.  However he thinks by applying the ointment that will not happen so every 3 hours or so I have to goop my eye up with lubricating ointment.  It makes my vision blurry and while I feel safe driving where I live making a long trip is out.  He is going to review it in a months time and will see what the go is then.

Anyway the upshot is while I would like to go I cant make it so wish those that go all the best and look forward to the write up.

Thanks

Bill

So sorry to hear my old friend--may i wish for a speedy recovery and back to a full music filled lifestyle-- I echo your pain- I have had Sudamonis of the eye and know the treatment you are enduring--with mine the Doctor made me stay in the Hospital for 6days--as the ointment/drops /etc had to be administed

every hour and would not trust me to stay awake!---so the sleep deprivation get's to you-- luckily the treatment (involves Steroids) worked and while I have a Scar on my eye --the vision is OK --I pass the Driving Medical each year--so I'm sure you will be in full mode before you can "blink an eye"! :thumb:

Stay safe and take care

You're falling apart Bill. Can't you trade a few bits in with Mike for some new ones? ;)

Get well.

So what exactly is the difference between them? The name implies an even thinner layer of copper - would this make them less physically robust?

Hi Lee

The new speaker cables are twice as wide as the older RibbonTek so nearly 50mm ! this imparts a significantly lower DC resistance which provides better bass control and damping to the loudspeakers .

The problem is that wide ribbons can cause some other problems , one of them is a propensity to ring or hum when a sympathetic voltage or current is passed through it . This is in fact a significant problem with all wire !!! This is why transformers hum and electrical devices make funny electrical sounds .

Ok having said this may I direct your attention to a guitar string which is deliberately tuned to a specific note or frequency ! When energy is applied to it it sings at the required or desired frequency ! Noooowww we can all see that with a speaker cable we don't want the thing to have its own natural tuning , but all wire does ! And when it's excited at its FS (natural resonant frequency) it's going to sing for Ya !! But we don't want the wire to add its own musical note to the signal of course.

Obviously we just want the wire to be a conduit for what we wish to send through it . The solution with this wide ribbon speaker wire was to de tune it ! This was achieved by building the cables conventionally and testing them under extreme conditions until we got identifiable negative results. The fix is proprietary and it was achieved over a 1 year period and 9 different prototypes, each one fiddled with add nauseum .

The end result is we believe exceptional ! They have been run against quite a few competitors and beaten then . A comparison with the earlier RibbonTek speaker cable shows obvious and complete superiority. This was demonstrated at our factory GTG some months ago. Regards Mike Lenehan
