My 2.1 stereo system (for apartment).
Hi everybody.
I would like to introduce my 2.1 stereo system. I ve spent few months doing research, auditioning in a few shops, You Tube , reviews and recommendations.
I was looking for something sounding very natural but at the same time full of emotion.
I had a few criteria to follow:
1. the system has to be of high quality, clear sound, good for vocal, jazz, classical and pop music.
2. Neighbours friendly - system for apartment with bass adjustment.
My wife's requirements:
1. small speakers and minimum elements
2. very nice design, funky modern look.
When budgeting my system I followed the idea of 4:2:1 (speakers: amp: CD player).
For speakers I chose Focal Electra 1008 (15Kg each bookshelf speakers). They are just amazing but they need proper room acoustic.
As for the amplifier I chose Musical Fidelity M5si. I did not spend as much time auditioning amplifiers as with the speakers. It was the most recommended amp to go with Focal. I was also considering Maranz. Unfortunately Maranz costs in AU double than what it cost in UK. At the same time Musical Fidelity and Yamaha have similar prices. Something is wrong with Marantz distribution in AU.
As for the source I chose Yamaha S2100 CD/SACD player with DAC. Very good audiophile player, sounds very natural.
I added subwoofer as well - Rel T5i. It is design for stereo rather than for HT. It gives me a lot of flexibility with bass management.
Speakers stand - Isoacoustics aperta + solid timber entertainment unit
Room acoustic - Primacoustic panels
QED reference cables
Total cost around $15K
Cheers,
Irek
