  3. Let's make CD great again! XRCD, K2HD, Ultra CD, UHQCD, etc. With a recent purchase of an awesome CD/SACD player from another SNA member, I've begun to re-look at redbook CDs, particularly these: XRCD, XRCD2, XRCD24, K2CD, Ultra CD, UHQCD, etc. I know that SACD and HDCD involve hardware differences, but these other "formats", XRCD, XRCD2, XRCD24, K2HD, Ultra CD, UHQCD, are nothing more than different mastering processes, and the final result is still a standard Red Book CD, containing 16bit/44.1kHz audio data, but the publishers do charge an arm and a leg more than the original publisher of the album or music. Questions: 1) Do these CDs really sound better than their original versions? Or they simply make them different to justify the price they charge? 2) Are the differences, assuming better sound, worth the premium price that's being charged for them? 3) Are the "improvements", assuming there are, in accordance with the original artistes' and producers' intentions? 4) Are there certain ones that are consistently superior, e.g. Ultra CD, or are we looking at mostly a hit-and-miss scenario I'm hoping that members who have experienced these can share their opinion. Many thanks in advance.
