Description Whatmough S33i 3-Way Floor-Standing Speakers Overview The Whatmough S33i floor standing speakers are the ultimate speaker in the Whatmough Signature series. Their design and built quality are up to the audiophile standards. The S33i delivers truly spectacular sound. The Signature S33i are based on the Performance Series P33i, with significant improvements to bring them up to Signature Series status. Cabinet This cabinet design offers more than just great looks – they also offer improved sound quality. By eliminating internal parallel surfaces, the curved surfaces offer clearer and cleaner sound by minimizing internal standing waves. Even more significantly, the curved panels are inherently more rigid and less resonant than the flat panels of a conventional speaker cabinet, which further helps to minimize coloration. Tweeter The Signatures S33i uses the same Ring Radiator tweeter that is used in Whatmough’s flagship speaker, the Paragon. This ultra-expensive tweeter sounds incredibly fast and detailed while also sounding extremely smooth and open. It has a very flat response extending to beyond 40KHz. Midrange The Signature S33i uses a 100mm cellulous fibre coned mid-range driver. This driver has the speed and transparency no bass/mid driver can match. Bass The Signature S33i uses two 170mm fiberglass/nomex hybrid drivers especially developed for these speakers. The cone for this speaker is made of Nomex with a skin of fiberglass. This long throw driver uses a 33mm high temperature voice coil and a large double magnet system. This driver has very high power handling as well as a very transparent detailed sound quality. Crossover The S33i uses high grade audiophile film and foil capacitors in critical positions. Air cored coils are used throughout, wound from a heavier grade of high purity Australian copper. System The perfect partner in the Signature Series system featuring the S8i in the centre and P12i or PFX3i speakers in the rear for a truly exceptional home cinema surround sound experience. The S33i is fully made in Australia. Configuration 3-way bass reflex enclosure using two 170mm hybrid fibre cone long elbow bass drivers, a 100mm cellulose fibre midrange driver and a 35mm dual concentric tweeter with wave guide centre plug. Nominal Impedance 4 Ohms Amplifier Power Requirement 25-150 watts RMS Power Handling Transient level in excess of 300 watts with an average level of 120 watts. Sensitivity 88dB input level of 2.83V. 5. B&W 702 S2 presented by 'The Audio Experts' 7:45pm Wednesday 18th September Willis Room, City of Whitehorse Offices Maroondah Highway (Whitehorse Road), Nunawading Melway Map 48 Ref G9 Contact: 9437 1249 It has been over two years since the club was presented with a demonstration from the top-of-the-range B&W speakers, the 800 D3's. Back then, we were introduced to a lot of new innovations that has re-invented this model. In keeping with B&W's philosophy of trickle down technology, the new 702 S2 features many of the new technology from the 800 series. This month we have 'The Audio Experts' aka Whatmough Audio, presenting at the MAC the new 702 S2 floor standing speaker, and its matching bookshelf model, the 705 S2. The speakers will be demonstrated with the same amplifier from PASS LABS the Model 60, while a Marantz KI Pearl SACD player will be playing the tunes. B&W has used its new 'Continuum' midrange cone in the 700 series, replacing the old yellow coloured Kevlar design, and have included the 'tweeter-on -top' technology seen on the 800 series. Sitting in its own aluminium machined pod, the 25mm 'Carbon Dome' tweeter is decoupled from the cabinet. The 702 S2 is a conventional rectangular box that houses a 150mm Continuum FST Midrange driver that is also decoupled from the main box. A set of three 165mm Aerofoil drivers look after the bass frequencies. Like the siblings in the 700 series, the 705 S2 features the new carbon tweeter dome that is more rigid than its previous model, with its first breakup mode now reaching out to 47 Khz. Around the back is the B&W characteristically 'dimpled' reflex port. Supplied with the speakers is a pair of foam bungs (full or half) to accommodate various room placements. The main 165mm mid/bass driver is the new silver coloured Continuum design, said to reach down to 45Hz. With a number of significant upgrades to the new 702/705 models, they offer a taste of the 800-series sound without spending serious money. Will you be putting them on your Christmas list? 17. Hi. I recently picked up a pair of Whatmough 202 speakers but one needs a tweeter replaced. Just wondering how much this would cost and whether you think it would be worth it for these speakers. Or should I just spend the money towards another set of comparable speakers. Also any general feedback on these speakers would be greatly appreciated. Cheers
  18. Item: Whatmough 202 speakers, plus stands and cables Location: Adelaide Price: $400 Item Condition: Used Reason for selling: Too bulky for new room Payment Method: Pickup - Cash Extra Info: I’m selling a pair of Whatmough 202 Export speakers, with stands and cables. I’m the only owner, I bought these new in 1993. They’ve had an easy life, and they still work fine, the only issues are: Some lifting of the vinyl wrap, should be easily fixable with careful glueing, and I no longer have the metal bits on the speaker terminals to bridge the terminals together. But I’m including a pair of Supra Quattro Pro bi-wired cables, so this shouldn’t be an issue. I bought the stands with the speakers, but I don’t think they’re dedicated stands, I suspect they’re generic ones. We’ve recently moved house, and these speakers are a bit bulky for the new listening room, so I’m replacing the 202s with something smaller. The lifting of some of the vinyl wrap is most apparent on the RHS speaker; I've shown this in the photos. There's a couple of other small spots as well, someone with steady hand and a glue gun should be able to fix this easily. But I'd rather sell these as-is, rather than being accused of trying to hide something You’re welcome to come and listen to these before buying. If needed I can ship via Pack & Send, but that would be at the buyer's cost which probably would be very expensive, and I wouldn’t be able to guarantee that the speakers arrive to you in the condition that I sent them, it’d need to be at the buyer’s risk. For that reason, local demo & pickup is preferred. Pictures:

  20. Hi all, I just need a little advice on AVR selection. I have a set of Whatmough magnum series speakers and want to upgrade my AVR. I am leaning towards a used Denon AVR, but from what I can see they all (in my price range), pretty much list the ohm rating at 6~12 ohm. My Whatmough's are rated at: Front floor standing - 4ohm Centre - 4ohm Rears - 8ohm Would the 4 & 8 ohm speakers be an issue on a 6~12 ohm rated amp? Thanks in advance 😊
  21. Hi All, Just looking for a little info on upgrading my current system which is: Whatmough Magnum series speakers: 2 x M30 front mains (4 ohms, 40 - 150 watt) 1 x M05 centre (4 ohms, 40 - 100 watt) 2 x M10 rears (8 ohms, 40 - 100 watt) AV Receiver: Sony STR-DE485 (please don't laugh) ;-) (Rated at 100watts per channel....hmmm???) Blu-Ray Disc - DVD Player: Sony BDP-S580 I know the speakers are not top of the range and have some age, but I just love them, and I am thinking of adding a Whatmough Tornado 2 sub to the mix. I am open to suggestions for the sub, I just figure the Whatmough would be a good choice and would match well with my current speaker set up. As for the amp.....well I would love to go nuts here but I am on a budget (trying to keep the amp under $1000). I am very fond of NAD equipment, and the NAD T748 (data sheet attached) seems like it would tick the boxes for features (and a pleasant lack of bells & whistles), while focusing on true sound quality and power for a reasonable RRP of $699. I am just a little concerned that it may be a little under powered for my Whatmough speakers? (although I have no doubt it would be a MAJOR improvement over my current Sony amp...LOL). To step up to the NAD T757 which I am sure would be great for my setup, but at a RRP of $1499 is getting a bit out of the budget and not sure if I can justify the extra $800 odd dollars when the T748 would be a big improvement anyway?? I do use the system for both music and movies and would appreciate any advice. Thanks :-) NAD T748.pdf
  22. As part of my total clean out am selling here 2 x 4m runs of Whatmough WC-BW420 Frequency optimized bi-wire speaker cable. This is beautifully made cable and is silver solder terminated with genuine Whatmough locking banana plugs. Currently wired for bi-amping, but I have a set of large genuine Whatmough Banana plugs so can reconfigure to bi wire if needed. IMHO this is the best speaker cable on the market, with outstanding clarity , bass authority and tone. This is well over $500 worth of cable, selling here for $200 including postage. http://whatmough.com...s-whatmough.htm "This cable has been manufactured in a flat ribbon configuration to reduce capacitance. The bass conductors are 8mm apart, while the treble conductors are 18mm apart which almost eliminates capacitance altogether. The conductors used in this cable have been optimized for the frequency band they are designed to carry. That is the bass cable (on the inside) use multiple diameter strands in a configuration optimized for low and mid frequencies. It has a cross sectional area of 4.5 square millimetre per conductor. The treble cable (on the outside) is optimized for high frequencies and uses 196 extremely fine strands with a total cross sectional area of 1.75square millimetre per conductor." Photos Available on SNA here: http://www.stereo.net.au/forums/index.php?/classifieds/item/1849-2-x-4m-whatmough-frequency-optimized-bi-wire-speaker-cable/ Alternatively I can email photos to you. 23. Hey All, I am Currently running a set Whatmough Floorstanding speakers, large rears and sub in 7.1 from an Integra DTR-30.1 AV receiver in my main lounge. As I now have a 1 year old son who wants to destroy everything he can get his hands on i've decided to move the Watmoughs to my "man cave" and purchase a modest set of 5.1 sub/sats to run on the integra amp so I can mount them out of reach. This area of the house is mainly used for TV/Movie watching ,very little music (as I have a nice set up for music elsewhere in the house). I live in the country so it is hard for me to get to dealers to audition sub/sats systems. Does anyone have any advice on sub/sat packages up $1500 that they can recommend?? Cheers Michael
  24. Item: Whatmough M30 Floorstanding Speakers Location: Port Melbourne, Victoria Price: $400 (RRP $1099 in year of release) Item Condition: Very Good. Physical appearance is good, and SQ is as new. Tested them at Whatmough HQ after purchasing and they passed OK. Reason for selling: Selling to fund upgrade Payment method: Pickup - cash Extra Info: Bought these speakers on eBay from their original owner about a year ago as part of my first home theatre setup. I paired them with an Onkyo TX-NR609 and they worked just nicely. Unfortunately, I got upgradeitis very quickly and relegated the Whatmoughs to surround duties. Also tried them as part of my 2-channel setup for a while. Sound: They have a very neutral sound. Whatmough speakers aim for tonal accuracy, apparently. Condition - I brought them into the Whatmough office in Ringwood to have them checked out shortly after purchasing, as I suspected them to have an SQ issue, and wanted to discuss upgrading/replacing the drivers. Kee Whatmough herself could find no issue with them and told me the drivers were fine. The SQ issue later turned out to be a setting on my PS3 player. They'll be a good buy for anyone looking for a well made budget speaker by a (late) great designer. Amplification: They are 4 Ohm speakers, so may not match an entry level AVR, but other than that should behave quite nicely. Extra: I am happy to throw in a set of cables with banana plugs for the interested buyer. Demo: If you want to have a demonstration, you are more than welcome to come visit, just PM me with a couple of days notice so we an arrange a time. I can plug them into the Onkyo AVR or a Rotel RA-04SE integrated amp.
