  8. Hi All, After a bit of advice. We're moving into a new place next month so I'm finally building my (semi-) budget dream system. I started off wanting a nice 2.0 system so have a second-hand Perreaux Audiant 80i that I imported from NZ. I'm looking for some speakers to pair it with, and was looking at Elac floorstanders, but now have SO approval to put in surround as well. The Perreaux has a HT loop with unity gain so I just need more speakers and an AV receiver with front pre-outs. I've seen this ad on Gumtree (Integra 30-1 with Wharfedale Diamond 9.5 speakers and sub for $1000 negotiable). My TV is 1080p so that's ok, and not too worried about Atmos or network features for now. Does this seem like a good deal? I'll probably look at upgrading the fronts sooner rather than later, but think the rest of the system should be acceptable for adding centre/surround and the sub for LFE in movies. Thoughts?

  15. As im helping Mark to pickup some Marantz gear from Epping, he generously "paid" me with the speakers that the sellers had. Im not that familiar with vintage wharfedale, i know they got a great reputation before but during my audition for speakers under $1000 around 6-8years ago, i cant remember any of their models that impressed me. So i hooked them up with my main system with Audio GD M7, M5 pre and Ncore with CEC TL51XR as transport, i was so surprised to hear a very organic sound with decent highs although very limited bass, so much so that i decided to measure them . This speakers is spec'ed for 15w, so im well aware that the ncore prob have too much power for them, but they are not sensitive, although the label at the back says 92db . here are some photos of the speakers
  16. So, sold my dynaudio contour 2's, so I could literally fund my entire new theatre setup. (Minus the screen) What Im currently searching for are my 2 fronts, I've boiled it down to Wharfedale 9.6's OR Dali Concept 8's...guys...which set?? Very hard to audition now as they're both discontinued and well, old. I see that the rrp of the concepts was about $2k, the wharfedales realistically around $1300, which seems the better speaker? These will be for movies, music is a very distant second in this setup. thanks J!
  17. Greetings. I am just after some advice. I purchase about a month ago a pair of wharfedale 10.1 diamonds and also a miniwatt n3 (appj) tube amplifier. I am relatively new to hi fi so wasnt that familiar with product matching etc. I have been happy with the sound, but am finding it hard to listen to as i feel the sound is missing something. Its got great mids but i feel like the lower end is not there, so I tend to analyze the sound more than enjoying it. Can anyone suggest anything to remedy this ? My option unfortunately will be to purchase a new amp. I have been looking a long the lines of the rotel ra-10 or the music hall a15.2 (if i can find one). Any other suggestions would be appreciated around the $400 mark. Also is there anyway to get more bass etc by running it through a pre-amp before running it through the miniwatt? Thanks
  18. Melbourne Audio Club monthly meeting: Wednesday 21st August, 8PM Audio Visual Revolution presents Wharfedale, Quad and NuForce 8pm Wednesday 21st August, visitors welcome. Willis Room, City of Whitehorse Offices Maroondah Highway (Whitehorse Road), Nunawading Melway Map 48 Ref G9 Contact: 9437 1249 This month’s general meeting, we return to good old fashioned two channel audio, with a presentation from England’s most recognised names in hi- fi, Quad and Wharfedale. The Australian importers AVRevolution, will be demonstrating two systems. The first will comprise of a complete family of Quad electronics and matching speakers. The second, will be Wharfedale’s latest range of floorstanding speakers matched with a new name in hi-fi called Nu Force. The Quad system comprises of a CDP Elite player with the 180w Elite integrated amp powering the Quad 12L bookshelf speakers. These two-ways house a 165mm woofer made from woven Kevlar with a conventional 25mm tweeter. The CDP Elite is more than just a CD Player, it also features a digital pre-amp with a selection of digital coaxial and Toslink optical inputs, fixed and variable to accommodate six extra digital sources. System number two will feature the Wharfedale Jade 5 floorstander, a three way speaker comprising of a 25mm aluminium dome tweeter, a 75mm ‘alu-pulp’ cone midrange driver and two 165mm woofers. The bass drivers are made of ‘Acufiber’, said to marry the responsiveness of glass and carbon fibre materials with a self dampening woven matrix. The speaker box is formed of a composite material that Wharfedale calls Crystalam. ‘Aperiodic’ cabinet loading, is another feature designed into the box. This comprises an internal port that vents into a tuned slot, which is filled with a resistive porous foam. This type of loading reduces the bass overhang common to conventionally ported floorstanders. The NuForce IA-18 amplifier is a recent model that has just landed on the Australian market this month. This unit incorporates components used in NuForces celebrated Reference Series products’, such as the same circuitry used in the P-20 flagship pre-amplifier, and two NuForce V3 power amp modules. An Audiolab 8200 CD player will be the source for this system. The unit is market ed by the manufacturer as a DAC + CD with its multiple digital inputs including a USB connection that can accept 24-bit/96kHz High-resolution audio. As you can see from this selection of Hi-Fi components, we should have an enjoyable night. 19. So I have a whole bunch of stuff lying around that would be far better loved in the homes of other people. Priority given to local buyers -- but that's not to say shipping interstate is out of the question. Call me lazy, whatever Wharfedale Diamond SW150 Sub Price: $250.00 Item Condition: A Reason for selling: Underutilised Extra Info: Ripper sub for the money. Tight, great for music and still able to shake the sills of my (admittedly old) house. The picture of the rear panel is the way I have run it -- not driven hard at all. 5* What HiFi review Wharfedale Diamond 9.1 Standmount Speakers Price: $SOLD$ Item Condition: B+ Reason for selling: Never used Extra Info: These were meant to be the rear fill in my short lived home theatre plan. I ended up sticking with pure two channel and use the 9.5 floorstanders from the same series. They're a B+ due to the small scratch on the rear (pictured) and they have no grills. They were damaged in transit and I'm personally not a fan of them anyway. Asus Xonar STX Price: $SOLD$ Item Condition: A Reason for selling: I now have a Mini-ITX system Extra Info: This thing is the bomb. Ripper DAC and headphone amp whilst being incredibly gamer friendly. Sadly, Mini-ITX boards only have a single PCI Express slot, which is taken up by my graphics card. PC Case Gear are selling this for $170 + shipping. So it's a bargain way to enter the world of PC based HiFi. Thanks for looking
  20. Hey guys, I've just upgraded to a used onkyo SR805 but it didn't come with a microphone for audessey setup, anyone know of a place in melbourne to pick one up? I'm also thinking of upgrading my Wharfedale 9.1 fronts to 10.7's but can't decide whether getting them shipped from the UK is worth the couple hundred in savings over buyiung in AUS. Thanks
  21. Item: Wharfedale Delta 30 Speakers Location: Brisbane Price: $45 Item Condition: Cosmetically fair Mechanically very good Reason for selling: Not required Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only, EFT Extra Info: These speakers were the base model from Wharfedale made in the 80's. I acquired them around 1995 and used them for a few years as rears in a surround system (with AR 91's). I rarely watch movies to be honest so they haven't had a lot of playing time. The drivers and tweeters are are in excellent condition and the sound is clean and neutral and enough base to do the job in a small room. Would make good rears or office rig although I ran them today and blew the cobwebs out with a Yamaha AS 500 integrated amp and they held their own in a medium sized room. The covers and face of the speakers are in excellent cosmetic condition but the rear corners are little battered as you will see in the photos. Look great with the grills off. Wharfedale Delta W30 DESCRIPTION Another classic speaker made in Britain, two way, rear vented, thin chipboard, textile tweeter and paper woofer. That may conclude as cheap parts but... lets see how it sounds. SOUND For set which you can buy for Å20-30 they are quite good. Overall tonal balance is excellent in this price range. Best if placed on stands. Room size should not exceed 15 sqm.
