Though the lamps on the front do not light up, also the rear of the amp has a little bit of surface rust which can be cleaned of and resprayed . 10. Item: Orpheus Aurora 3 floor standers Location: Mosman Price: 650 520 Item Condition: used, good Reason for selling: NLR Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal +3% or as friend, COD Only Extra Info: These are the original Aurora 3's from the well known Australian audiophile speaker manufacturer Orpheus who have continued to make this model until recently, albeit with some cabinet and driver changes along the way. Orpheus speakers are renowned for built quality and finish and these will definitely not disappoint. They have been given a light rub to remove the original polyurethane and have had a special blend of organic timber oil applied with a final rub of beeswax to leave a soft and velvety feel. Spec wise these are a very efficient 3 way speaker at 92db and are 4 ohm rated. These should make them well suited to small single-ended triode valve sets. Pick up from Mosman 2088. At about 20kg each, will consider interstate transport only via pack,n,send if no local interest. Pictures:
  11. Item: Sony STR-7035 AM/FM Receiver Location: Bexley, NSW Price: $220 $190 Item Condition: Great for its age Reason for selling: I need to raise cash for new gear Payment Method: Pickup - Cash or bank deposit Extra Info: Up for sale a rare vintage Sony AM/FM receiver, made in Japan (circa 1975). The receiver is in a fantastic condition for its age - it works well and sounds great. The wooden case is in great shape, all lights, buttons and nobs are working fine. I haven't used this amp since I have purchased a bigger vintage amp - about 2 years ago. I recommend getting its pots cleaned just in case. Pick up only from Bexley Thanks, Rodrigo
  12. Item: Pioneer SM-Q 300 Valve FM, AM, SW Receiver Location: Seddon, Melbourne Price: $600 Item Condition: Good, considering age Reason for selling: Surplus Payment Method: Pickup - Cash - or Pack n Send or similar organised by you, but it weighs 12kg Extra Info: This is a circa 1962 receiver. Quite rare - you seldom see them on ebay or similar. A curiosity with this model is that it has two separate MW receivers which you can run on separate stations - evidently this was to future proof in case stereo AM broadcasts started, using two separate frequencies for left and right. Also has SW. This one was completely serviced by Resurrection Radio back in 1998 (see pic of reciept), and more recently given a thorough going over by Dallas Clarke about 8 years ago after a capacitor decided to moonlight as a smoke grenade, although his receipt is less enlightening as to the work done. A house move resulted in it living in a pillow case on a shelf for the last 7 years, so its really time to let it go. I've had it since around 1994. The only issue I'm aware of is that Dallas Clarke said the push button power switch isn't original and isn't rated at switching lots of amps at 240v, so he bypassed it. Hence it has to be turned on and off at the wall / power board. All lights work, and the tuning valve works too. Link to list of valves used, and schematic, for those interested in such details: https://www.hifiengine.com/manual_library/pioneer/sm-q300.shtml Pictures:

  16. Item: SONY CDP-101 Location: Brisbane (nth) Price: $150 Item Condition: See description Reason for selling: Unfinished project Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only Extra Info: Having a bit of a vintage audio clear out and this has been sitting around for several years and was sold but returned recently. For full transparency purposes both channels were working when it left my hands, the purchaser discovered one channel stopped working when he connected it up at home - so it was returned. I had resoldered the terminal connection in case it was that - but sadly it didn't fix the issue - but I'm no skilled technician either. The tray is slow, but it does play red book discs usually without any issue. It's in good physical condition but will need some TLC to get it 100% again. Included are: the original RM-101 remote control (works), user manual and workshop service manuals which I beleive are worth the asking price alone. Pictures:
  17. Hey all, After the death of my previous amp I have recently purchased a JVC VN300 amp to play my ancient SL1210 turntable through. It’s currently powering some Gale Gold Monitors which sound pretty good (way better than playing MP3s through my Topping VX1). I plan to put the Topping Amp and Gale speakers to use elsewhere and need to get some speakers for use with the JVC amp. I’m not looking for audiophile quality here - just something that is durable, will sound decent and is well under $500 - new or secondhand. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Alternatively I could keep the Gale Monitors and get something more suited to the Topping amp which I plan to use with Spotify (or maybe start again?). Cheers, Ian
  18. Item: RTR 280DRs Location: Price: $1200 $1100 Item Condition: 7/10 - awesome for their age Reason for selling: Dad has upgraded Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only Extra Info: Hi all, I’m selling these beautiful and rare old RTR 280DRs on behalf of my Dad (not to be confused with the cheap RTRs after BIC bought the company in the 80’s). Matching serial numbers 3838 and 3839. The story goes that as an 18 year old, dad had a choice to make – a new car or a stereo system. Needless to say that he choose correctly and they’ve been in the family since new in 1977. It’s actually quite a sad day for both of us really as these were my first introduction to the glorious world of hifi as well – in fact the couple of dinted dust caps were at my own hands as a 5 year old – apologies! Anyway, here they are in all their Teak clad glory (real Teak, not plastic veneer). They pack in 10 drivers per tower. 5 paper mids/tweeters, a front facing piezo horn, 3 front/side facing 10” woofers and a downward firing 10” woofer. I’ve checked all drivers and they are in good working order. The rear of the crossovers have pots for treble and mid range as well as an protection override reset button. One speaker will on occasion cut out but a reset is all it needs. The switch probably just needs a clean. The cloth grills look loose in the photos, that’s just due to the screws being removed for me to take photos of the drivers. The crossovers have recently been recapped with Jantzen MKTs from Speakerbug.com.au. Dad reckons they now sound exactly like he remembered back in 77’ as they had lost a lot of sparkle and bottom end prior to the recap. Sensitivity wise, I can’t find the original specs but they’re clearly pretty sensitive when compared to my -89dB Martin Logans. Easily over 91-92dB. They’re not in perfect condition being 41 years old but overall present very well. There has been some loose veneer over the years which has been reglued. One tower has a chip to the bottom rear corner. I’ve tried to show all of this in the photos. A few of the tiny dust caps on the paper tweeters have been pushed in but they’re such shallow caps, I hardly noticed until dad pointed them out. I’m not sure what else to say about these but please feel free to ask questions. Dad is asking $1200 for them and I realise that’s on the higher end but given their rarity here is Australia it’s probably a fair price Pictures:
  19. Hi all, I bought an old amplifier at a house auction this week and ended up with two giant speakers to boot (I thought it was a table the amp was on and a separate lot) There seems to be a few unconnected wires and some bits I don't know if they are part of the speakers or not. Do any of you have any advice as to what needs to be connected to what , are these things even worth looking at (are they better off being used as firewood) All comments welcome. Cheers Phil

  21. Hi, I just joined SNA to see if anyone has any suggestions on how to correctly re-wire front speakers to match a low-powered retro 1970s pre-Optonica Sharp 4 channel Radiogram GS-9200. Posted in the new member's section & djb (after asking why not offload it to a hipster store ) suggested I post here - is this the correct forum? I do not have the original speakers for this system & want to try re-wiring speakers that suit a different 4 channel amp (from the same era). The front speaker connections indicate that the original Sharp 'Golden Sound' speakers were unusual - had a plug with four prongs, three active with three-core lead cable to the original, I think the 1st lead to high (+), 2nd lead to low (+), 3rd lead to common (-). At this link, the photo on the bottom right shows the rear of a very similar mode - see three lead cable at top right of unit: http://forum.audio.com.pl/vintage-sharp-golden-sound-GS-8200A-t29840.html I am not overly familiar with speaker cables - previously have only had 'standard' sound systems with twin-core lead e.g. red/black to the speaker, or two twin-core flex for 'bi-amped' jobs e.g. red/black to woofer, blue/grey to tweeter. Anyone ever encountered anything like this? Would the cross-over arrangement be different to usual? I don't have the service manual or even operating instructions for this model but I'm hoping the schematics on the links below (for slightly different models) might provide some clues. I can do some trial and error with some 3-way floor-standing speakers of the same era/ quality (Sanyo) which may be suitable, if the speakers are low-rated enough to suit the Sharp receiver. Would using a multimeter assist with determining correct wattage/ impedance ( I really have no idea)? Other forum postings with images, schematics for other Sharp models, which raise similar issues: At Stereonet: http://www.stereo.ne...ing-to-his-amp/ See also QuadraphonicQuad: http://www.quadrapho...ker-Connections And Audiokarma: http://www.audiokarm...p/t-268190.html If anyone has any pointers I'd be much obliged. Tangio tumas, SoloOlo
