  1. Item: Tannoy Revolution XT6F floorstanding speakers - dark walnut Location: PERTH Price: $1100 now $890 for a quick sale Item Condition: Unmarked and as new (but run in of course). Reason for selling: upgraded Payment Method: Pickup in PERTH (SOR) only - Cash, Paypal, bank transfer Extra Info: I bought these new about 3 years ago, but they’ve had very little use. They’ve been used to play vinyl at family friendly listening levels and powered (easily) by a 20ish watt SET amp. The rave reviews you’ll find by googling are all true IMO. I think this one is spot on: https://www.whathifi.com/tannoy/revolution-xt6f/review. The soundstage, accuracy and timing of the drivers are amazing, I reckon. So taken am I with the dual concentric concept I splurged on the new Tannoy Cheviots, so these are sitting unused and need to go. Donation to SN on sale. 2. Hi all im new here and a big hifi fan, Im very excited to be starting my new Project a set of Tannoy westminster se cabinets. It is a big project and its a first for me as ive never built anything like this before but its a challenge. Unfortunately because the specs use different sized timber i have to glue sheets together to make the thicknesses i need. I will be mounting a set of tannoy gold monitors in them as i already have them. Any feedback would be welcome especially if anyone else has taken on this awsome project.
  3. Item: Precision 6P Passive Monitor speaker Location: Reservoir, VIC 3073 Price: $500 O.N.O Item Condition: Used. Excellent. Reason for selling: No longer needed Payment Method: Pickup - Cash or Delivery - Paypal Extra Info: For sale 2 Tannoy Precision 6P speakers in excellent condition. Designed in the UK. 6" dual concentric driver, super tweeter, backfacing bass port. 120w max power handling. The sound is amazing, with plenty of realistic detailing. Small screw holes at the base from previous owner, but overall in beautiful physical and working condition. No issues with any of the drivers. Well looked after. 4. I thought I would share some of my extremely amateur pictures and videos from the recent Bangkok Audio Video show. Apologies for the quality but it is all just recorded poorly on my phone but something is better than nothing right? There is a really good scene here in Thailand for high end gear and some really good retailers. It has exceeded my expectations of what is here and surpases Aus in some respects. Anyways here is a few pics and vids and I will try to talk about each a little. The rooms at the show were really well sized and a lot better than in videos we see from the states etc (not just hotel bedrooms). The rooms where all conference rooms and decently sized for the majority. My favourite room roughly 8x14x3.5m Equipment is Proac Response K8, Rel No.25 array @Sime, Acoustic Arts Mono 3 Amps, The Beast server and an Audioquest Niagara. TT was unfortunately not used. (The speakers were meant to be the new top Elac Concentro but they unfortunately weren't there. The Proacs were very impressive regardless) This system was incredible and was demo'd by a Rel representative who did comparisons of sub vs no sub, 2 sub vs 6 sub array. The sound with no subs was seriously good but with the array was something else. It gave the feel of a live concert with the benefits of a HIFI system. It was never over powering at low volumes 60dB or at over 100dB and made it so much better at either volume level too. The subs filled in effect and made it so much more appealing, natural with a soundstage that was just amazing. They really transformed it into something other-worldly. My next project at home is to integrate my SVS into my system and after this it is a must. I will be buying a second if anyone is considering selling theirs though I wish I could afford the Rel array........ It was great speaking with the Rel guy alone and picking his brain. I have videos I will attach at the end of this post. Next is a room roughly the same as above though with no room treatment whatsoever. Equipment is Focal Grand Utopia 3 (roughly $260k AUD), Esoteric Grandioso stack with Fidelizer server, VTL Siegfried Series 2 monos and TL7.5 pre, Entreq Tellus 2 and more, In the pic is Stirling Trayle who did a talk on system optimisation and another on speaker positioning. The speaker positioning was really good and gave a scientific method rather than just constantly shuffling in semi bling hope. The optimization was good too. The sound of this system was of course amazing especially at higher volumes. At lower it was just so different to the Proac Rel room. It was what you would expect from a >500k system though and was something very special. Stirling travels the world setting up peoples speakers and believes in minimal room treatment after the speakers have been positioned. Got to speak with Stirling for quite a while and learnt quite a bit. The loom with more Entreq This room was about 6x5 with a lot of room treatment including little timber dots everywhere EDIT...Wilson Alexia with some Serbian Nat amps with valves as big as a football, Bergmann Galder TT This was a really nice room but didn't grab me. This next room was roughly 7x9 and had both a Wilson and Avantgarde setup EDIT...Wilson Alexia, D'Agostino Progression, dCS Rossini and Fidelizer server. This was incredible and from memory the monoblocks are a decent step up from the system presented at Audio Connection for their dCS launch which had the same DAC/clock, speakers were Sasha and used the Momentum integrated. I just wish this had it's own room because it was amazing. The other in this room was Avantgarde Duo Mezzo XD and Cary CAD 805AE it was beautiful though played a lot of music that wasn't really my taste and I don't think it was the best recordings. Classical on the Focal Grand Utopias gave me goosebumps but this didn't. Another good room Cessaro Alpha 2, Ayon S10 and Vulcan Evo amps. This was really lovely and the Cessaro rep enjoyed having someone to speak English with. The speakers use TAD drivers and were really special to listen to. He said there is a pair in Sydney and he travels to every customers house to set them up. Bad pic sorry Tannoy Westminster Royal SE and Kengsington GR, Sun Audio and Esoteric Sounded good but didn't grab me. ML ESL 15A and Burmester 911 MK3 This was really really nice and I think the ARC did really well. Burmester amps have always sounded really good everytime I hear them This room had black Focal Sopra 2s. Red Sopra 3s and Orange Sopra 1s (not shown) I was amazed at how the little naim all in one sounded on the Sopra 2s and would happily live with this system. The Micromega all in one amps were pretty crappy on all 3 sets of speakers. The Naim stack with Sopra 3 was beautiful and the best attainable system (for most) that I heard there. Naim really is incredible. 7.3 Elac Unifi, 3x Rel 2 12/SE Rotel RA1580 and 2x RMB-1585 This was pretty cool and I think the Rotel processor is brilliant. A few other systems Stealth 25th Anniversary Karp Horns. Claiming to be the best home theatre speakers in the world. These Daniel Hertz M7 were pretty good. Unsure... There were some other really good systems especially a Stenheim and Vitus room though I don't have pics. A locally made 300b amp for $800 AUD was absolutely beautiful with his own homemade speakers for roughly $3000 AUD One room had Magico bookshelves but he didn't want to set them up same goes with Avantgarde Zero1s The new Paradigm Persona Bookshelves sounded pretty average but had a little amp and not a good space It was a good show with a decent turn out and I was very impressed with the room sizes. I think all shows should try to use conference rooms and not tiny little hotel bedrooms. I'll try to add some videos soon EDITED.. Wilson speakers are Alexia not Sasha S2

  6. Item: Pair of 2014 Tannoy Prestige Kensington SE loudspeakers. Designed and made in the UK (Relisted. Price reduced). Location: Melbourne. Pick-up only. Price: $8000 (RRP $16999). Item Condition: As brand new with original spikes, stands, and receipt (no packaging). Reason for selling: Upgrading to larger size speakers. Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal. Extra Info: I bought them brand new in June 2014 from the distributor in Melbourne with original boxes and packaging. I have compared these Kensington speakers side by side with many other speakers within a price range of 9K to 25K: Focal Utopia 20K+, PSB Synchrony, Acoustic Zen Adagio, as well as a few other famous 15K-20K models I can't recall. Surprisingly, Kensington trumped them ALL by a BIG margin. I used Kensington with the appraised Elson Silva's Southern Star 35W tube amp. Used rarely for music, mainly at low volumes for TV. Kept in stable temperature, in smoke and pet free room. You are welcome to bring your speakers and your amp to test them out and appraise the true magic of the Kensington. The Tannoy Kensington SE features a 10-inch Dual Concentric driver with an AlNiCo magnet system and the Tannoy PepperPost WaveGuide, mounted in a 1100 mm tall, 406 mm wide solidly braced cabinet constructed of lacquered mahogany veneer with solid walnut edging and trim detail. Front panel crossover controls allow the unit to be fine-tuned for musical preferences and listening environment. Tannoy Prestige speakers are designed and built like fine musical instruments, producing startlingly immediate, dynamic, and utterly captivating sound, rich in tone, as close to a live performance as anything in audio. No matter what your musical tastes, whether jazz, reggae, electronic, classical, hard rock, or whatever, the Tannoy Dual Concentric design is a magical antidote to clinical high-end loudspeaker alternatives. The Kensington works magnificently in spaces ranging in size from an average sitting room to substantial halls, and in all interior decors, from traditional to contemporary. It can be powered by low-powered valve amps, including single-ended triodes, or high-powered solid-state monoblocs, with both bi-wiring and bi-amping options. Specifications: Recommended amplifier power: 50 to 225 W Frequency response: 29 Hz to 22 kHz, -6 dB Sensitivity: 93 dB, 2.83 V at 1 m Nominal impedance: 8 Ohms Dimensions: 1100 x 406 x 338 mm Weight: 37 kg each Finish: lacquered mahogany veneer with solid walnut edging and trim detail Reviews: Acclaimed Australian Hi-Fi audio designer & repairer Patrick Turner, put this in his blog (in my opinion, a truly trustworthy reviewer): “The Kensington SE might be too much of a good thing. It’s Technicolor rich, contrastier and flat out more delicious sounding than any box or panel speaker I’ve heard in ages. If I’ve made you curious, here’s my advice: Listen to your favorite music first on other speakers, and then audition the Kensington SE. I’m betting you won’t want to go back...” "What astonished me at once was the sheer transparency of the Kensington rivaling the Quads in the precision of its soundstage and in the depth and effortless layering of the image. I've not before heard anything quite so coherent from a box loudspeaker.... The Kensington is one of a very small number of loudspeakers that I would say have truly graced my listening room in the quarter century that I have been writing about audio equipment. Set up carefully and driven with a top quality power amplifier and front end components, it is capable of coming within a whisker of emulating that 'open window on the event' which, for me at least, is what high fidelity is all about." (Ivor Humphreys) "The Kensington's biggest strength lies in the delicacy and transparency of the mid-band, and this has an enormous influence on voices in particular. On 'Indoor Fireworks', the plaintive, breathy quality of Elvis Costello's voice has never sounded more effective or expressive. Likewise, when I slipped Jim White's wonderfully bizarre Wrong Eyed Jesus CD in to the player, this speaker seemed particularly effective at peeling back veils and revealing both the essence and the lyric of this quite complex and densely layered mix." 10. Item: TANNOY DC-1000 Bookshelf Speakers Location: Brisbane SE. Condition: Excellent condition. Drivers working well. Checked by Brisbane Speaker Repairs prior to sale. Cabinets cosmetically excellent for age with no corner bumps or dents. Few superficial hardly visible scuffs on top of one – see pic. Couple of driver screw heads have a bit of corrosion. Grilles excellent with no broken tabs. Grille cloth good but missing grille badges. Price: $450 $400 $375 $350 Reason for Selling: Post Christmas bills. Payment methods: Cash on pick-up Pick up details: Pick up Wynnum, Brisbane. Not keen to courier these but may re-consider if local buyer not found. Extra info: The DC-1000s feature the same 2025GG dual-concentric driver as in the floor-standing models in the series. The Tannoy DC range began my adventure into hi-fi and I was blown away by the detail from the dual-concentric drivers and hooked on hi fi from then on. They sounded sweet with an Audiolab 8000A and matched well for my ears with this mellow English amp. Tried them with a brighter modern Vincent and a bit more fatiguing. Locals are welcome to bring own amp to see if it is a good match for you. I love these with jazz, acoustic instrumental and vocals particularly, but they can exercise muscle when they need to. These are all original and un-modified. Had them checked prior to sale by Brisbane Speaker Repairs and all good. Here are specs from Hifidatabase.com (can’t guarantee their accuracy). Recommended amplifier: 10 - 120 Watts Sensitivity: 90dB Nominal impedance: 8 Ohms Frequency response: 48Hz - 25kHz Crossover frequency: 2.3Khz Enclosure: Ducted port Internal volume: 17L Dimensions: 248 x 497 x 205mm (Width x Height x Depth) Weight: 8.1kg Year: 1988 - 1991 Pictures:

  15. Item: Tannoy Berkeley Location: Melbourne Price: $3000 firm Item Condition: Very good condition, Please see the photos and videos. Reason for selling: Moved to a small house. Payment Method: Pickup - Bank transfer, Paypal, COD. Extra Info I'm the second owner and bought them from the original owner in Kew, Melbourne. Never thought of selling them as I'm pretty sure that I won't be able to find another pair in this beautiful condition. Moved to a small house and I need to let this go to welcome my next Tannoys. I have tried a huge number of speakers in past (Not listing them here as I'm not interested in a debate here). Stopped buying anything else for myself after listening to 15" Dual concentric Tannoys. Now I'm going through the phase of trying different Tannoys - Original Tannoy Berkeley cabinets in excellent condition. - They sound beautiful with signature Tannoy HPD385 sound. - Surrounds are recently replaced with original ones from UK. - Crossovers are untouched. - Speaker cable binding posts are upgraded to fit thicker cables and banana plugs (Original binding posts can be provided to the buyer). Prefer someone local who can collect them directly and pay cash. Please add 3% extra if paid through Paypal. Buyer needs to arrange packing and courier if required. My advice: You need medium or large size room to enjoy them. Replace the crossover Caps with Mundorf Evo Oil or ClarityCap MR as the original capacitors are 40+ years old. I won't be online all time to give a quick reply here, so message me for my contact number if you are interested and need any more info. Video: Recorded using my mobile phone. Not the correct amplifier to get the best out of them, but still they sound pretty decent in that room (my previous house). Pictures:

  17. Item: Tannoy HPD385 Arden Location: Melbourne Price: SOLD Item Condition: Very good condition Reason for selling: Upgrade Payment Method: Pickup only- Cash, Paypal (as a friend or add 3%) Extra Info: These speakers made me hate almost all other speakers I have owned in the past and the ones in Melbourne HiFi show, a long list. They made me to fall in love with Tannoys!. Thought they will be with me forever and I can get settled with these, but the upgrade bug bite me again. They don't need a lengthy description, the title 'Tannoy HPD385' drivers explain it all. Listen to the video (Super tweeters in the video are not connected and they don't need them at all) or I'm happy to give you a demo. I will be able to assist with transporting them if it is in Melbourne / nearby suburbs. - The cabinets are matching Arden spec made by Krix, Australia (weighs approx 60kgs each). - Upgraded crossover capacitors. - Comes with custom-made wooden base (makes it easy to move as they have got wheels). - No covers for speakers (Will include the wooden speaker grille frame, buyer need to get them covered with speaker grille cloth). - Custom-made solid speaker spikes included (Brass spike shoes shown in the photos are not included). 19. Item: For Sale:Tannoy Revolution R3 speakers for sale, In good condition and working beautifully, they have been sat boxed for a few years as ive not been able to use them, ran them for a few hours before offering them for sale and they sound great for a 15+ year old speaker, ran them with my MF X-A2 and they have plenty of weight and drive but manage to not sound forward and brash like many more modern speakers can, a little laid back but very musical..... The Cherry wood cabinets are in nice condition for their age, the odd little chip that you have to look for and one of the cabinets has a small scuff on the side, barely noticeable, these speakers are a nice bit of furniture if you like nice wood..... I personally think they look great. They come in their original boxes and paperwork is there, grills are in good condition. Sad to see them go but im just not shipping them back to the UK, trying to go back with as little as possible.... Location: Adelaide, SA Price: $575 neg Item Condition: Used Reason for selling: Selling all my equipment due to a move back to the UK Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only Extra Info: These speakers are big (when in the boxes) and heavy, so a sale within SA would be preferable, feel free to arrange freight of these if you are interstate, any questions just ask..... 25. Item: Tannoy GRF (Guy R Fountain) Memory Speakers (pair, new in 1995) Location: Melbourne Price: $7,500 (Open to discussion, this is my best estimate on a very fair value based on my research) Item Condition: Good (Minor fading of some woodwork, minor colouration on grill cloths) Reason for selling: Down sizing Payment Method: Pickup preferred, but happy to work with any serious buyer on freight - Cash, Paypal, COD Only Extra Info: These are from the Tannoy Prestige range using 15” Dual Concentric Drivers. They are substantial at 1,100 tall, 800 wide and 480 deep, weighing in at 62kg each. The sealed cabinet design allows them to be placed close to walls without adverse impacts on sound, making them very flexible to position. At 95db efficiency they are very easy to drive and, as you would expect from high end Tannoy’s, they sound wonderful across a wide range of music. I have owned them since new in 1995, and they come complete with keys, manuals and original Tannoy wax for the cabinetry. For those interested in more detail, this information may help. These are the GRF (Guy R Fountain) Memory TW version manufactured from 1992 to 1997, so the last variation of this model. Unlike the ones before them, they used the 3840 driver (rather than the 3849 of earlier models). I have included some additional context in the attached documents. The cabinets are original Tannoy in solid walnut with particle board bracing. I have kept a close eye on the rubber / foam surrounds and see no signs of deterioration. The power rating (125 Watts RMS) and amplifier recommendations (50 – 200 Watts) have always bemused me – I have driven them with an 8 Watt valve amplifier and can assure you that can create very unreasonable sound levels! In terms of pricing there is not a lot comparable in the market. New 15" Tannoy Prestige start at 30k, and there have certainly been technical advances since 1995. That said, these remain visually and aurally imposing in a timeless kind of way. Happy to engage with any serious buyers to view, audition, and discuss freight if required.
