  1. Item: SGR Audio - EL15s Power Amplifier Location: ACT Price: $1300 Item Condition: Excellent Reason for selling: Integrated Valves - My journey must continue Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only, Or shipping can be negotiated Extra Info: This is an amazing little amplifier. 80 conservative watts per channel, easily bettering 150W Class D in my system. I bought this about 18 months ago from a member here, and it has worked flawlessly ever since. The unit has the choice of balanced XLR or normal RCA inputs, has a VU meter, auto-power-off and some sort of stealth mode . I have never seen it get to three bars on the VU before it was uncomfortable to listen to, and it was driving some Monitor Audio GS 60 floor standers.... so no issues with power. It has a fantastic, spacious sound, but is fast, clean and keeps a great grip on the bass. Before I bought it, it had been recently re-capped by SGR and brought back to original spec. This unit is a well built little tank, with ginormous heat sinks to ensure it barely gets warm to the touch. This amp is the real deal, and I believe it is one of the foundations for the amazing amplifiers in SGR Audio's active speaker range. Pictures:
  2. Items: SGR Audio CX3Bs Mk II and CX3C Mk II 3 way active speakers Location: Melbourne Inner East Price for package: CX3B MK II pair (including matching stands, 3.5m SGR XLR cables) and CX3C Mk II (including stand, not pictured) $12,999. $11,500 Package no longer available RRP for the set of 3 speakers is in excess of $30K. CX3Bs are left and right bookshelf speakers, CX3C is the center speaker below TV. Sub woofers on floor, TV and NAS plus table not for sale.. Price for Left & Right speakers only : CX3B MK II pair including matching stands and 3.5m SGR XLR cables $9,500 $8,700 $8,200 including shipping to major cities and regional centres in Australia. RRP for a new pair of CX3B Mk II is $22K, with discounts rare. Price for center speaker only: CX3C Mk II including stand $4,500 $4,000 SOLD Not sure of actual RRP but the CX3C sells at slightly less than half of the CX3B which makes it about $10 to $10.5K Pickup preferred, but can ship (see below). Donation to SNA if sold Item Condition: Good (would be rated immaculate if newer) ** never had a problem with them , exceptionally well built and reliable ** Reason for selling: see below Payment Method: Bank Transfer, cash on pickup (if you must). Extra Info: My treasured SGR Audio speakers are potentially on the market as I investigate make a significant simplification of my setup. Never envisaged writing this as I thought they were keepers forever! Was originally motivated to purchase SGR Audio active speakers because of their clarity, detail, and value for money. Yes, value for money because there is no need for power amplifiers, with the in-built class A/B amplifiers perfectly matched to the speakers. Chose the CX3Bs with more WAF appeal but otherwise are built to the same standards as the larger CX4Fs (review). https://www.sgrloudspeakers.com/collection/convex-series.html While the CX3Bs are bookshelves, they can match many floor standers and go down to 35 Hz. Recently upgraded all 3 to MkII which gave a significant performance boost. ** no warranty with upgrade, but SGR exceptional customer service will fix any upgrade issue, likely for free ** The CX3Bs are currently being used in my 2 channel and HT setups. The CX3C is only for HT, newer and used a lot less. The CX3Bs together with the CX3C make a superb, matched front speaker combination for HT. If required, shipment can be arranged. No original packaging because they were delivered and installed by Stuart Ralston (of SGR Audio). Will get Stuart’s advice on how best to ship them, but cost will likely be significant as speakers plus stands are heavy and a wooden crate will likely be recommended. Shipping now included to major cities and regional centres in Australia. Will be well protected in heavy cartons. Please note that this an EOI to gauge interest and is dependent on the simplification going ahead. I hope to make a decision in the next two weeks on whether to proceed with the sale. Decision made to proceed with sale. More Pictures:

  4. When it comes to Hi FI, I'm definitely Old School, that means Tubes, Vinyl, Passive Crossovers, and an aversion to all all things digital including ICs, Op Amps, and all that so called modern science guff Crikey, even my amps are hard wired point to point Quite obviously, Leading Edge Technology and Application could never compete yet alone improve upon God's Own Kit...right? Today, after a midweek telephone conversation with Harry, I visited SGR, where I proceeded to make some new friends, and learnt some valuable lessons No point denying that I drove over with some preconceived ideas of what the MT3s would sound like: a little harsh, somewhat over driven, bass heavy at the expense of the rest of the spectrum, and prone to cause listening fatigue. After all, I've been around this industry in one form or another for many years and have heard literally thousands of combinations of the best kit available. I should know I'm a ****head What I heard was comparable in some areas to the very best I have ever come across, and superior in other areas Soundstage, pitch, tonality, dynamics, transients, but above all...Engagement It only took two minutes for me to forget why I was there I was too busy enjoying the music Jacintha Bic Runga Leonardo's Bride Patricia Barber Harry Belafonte And a rendition of Stevie Ray's Tin Pan Alley that my big ATCs would have bowed down to In between listening sessions, Harry, Ann, and Stuart showed me through some amazing products and the design and application science behind them. The absolute attention to detail and resolve to be to 100% right is profoundly impressive I have no doubt when SGR products are unleashed upon the wider Audio world a frenzy will ensue Thank you so much guys, and Happy Birthday Stuart

  6. Hi I tried to get some pics and a bit of info on some of the rooms, I'll have to keep updating over the next few days. Sorry if any spelling is wrong or names or prices. I should be able to present a half decent overview though. I'll just say once that all comments are to my ears, i didn't use anyone else at the show. And all opinions are mine I am not writing about any one else. If you have a question let me know I may be able to come up with an answer. Rooms are in no particular order. First up is this huge room with huge JBL and huge Melody electronics. This was a large scale sound. Big bass but just because you can have big bass doesn't mean you should. I felt it smeared into the rest of the sound. I perhaps can see why some like it but for me it was underwhelming. They seem to be making things bigger these days and then charger more.

  9. Item full name and model etc. SGR SS18 Active subwoofer * Location Melbourne - Prefer pick up but can try to organise freight * Item condition description Perfect - As new - around 6 months old * Price and price conditions $2000 ONO (RRP $2650) * Reason for selling- I bought 2 of these beauties - I have a large room. 8 meters by 7 meters with high cathedral ceilings and open to the rest of the house. I was sure I would need 2 of these to pressurise my room but just one is more than enough. * Payment Methods: Cash, Bank Transfer. * Extra Info: I have owned and heard many subs including the big ones from SVS. None of them can hold a candle to this one. There is something about the big 18 inch driver reproducing bass which smaller drivers just cannot equal, not even highly regarded ones like the JL Fathoms. These subs are sealed so they are tight and fast. When I had them set up with my two channel stereo, they never drew attention to themselves and can be well integrated. I love these subs and I have yet to come across anyone who has been dissatisfied with them for movies or music. Lots of info on these subs on various forums. My subs have the newer 1000W plate amp rather than the 800W that SGR were using previously. 11. Item: (NO LONGER AVAILABLE) SGR CX4F Active Speakers - Ball Grained Sapelli finish. Location: Melbourne Sth East Suburbs Price: $NO LONGER AVAILABLE$ Item Condition: Excellent condition, 9 out of 10 for age only. Still under the 3yr warranty that is transferable. Reason for selling: Opportunity to upgrade. Payment method: COD, Direct Deposit, or Paypal + 2.4% fees. Shipping: Pick up only, otherwise happy for the buyer to organise shipping as these were personally delivered and installed by SGR. Extra Info: I bought these from SGR back in June 2012. These speakers have been well cared and are a reluctant sale only because of an opportunity to upgrade has presented itself. I am trying hard to keep these as a second system or even as HT speakers, but the better half has mandated that either they go or stay Please, no low ball offers please as they currently retail at $14K. I paid full retail for mine. Happy for potential buyers to demo them, just send me a PM to organise. Will post some new pictures of them soon. In the interim, refer to the following links: SPECS: http://www.sgraudio.com.au/products/convex/cx4f.html My System: http://www.stereo.net.au/forums/index.php?/topic/42772-kattackss-systemtake-3/
  12. Item: SGR CX4F Speakers - Walnut finish Location: Melbourne - Eastern Suburbs Price: $8000 Item Condition: Perfect Reason for selling: Complete system overhaul Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only Extra Info: These Speakers are about 18 months old and in perfect condition. Not a scratch or mark anywhere. These are easily the best speakers I have heard under the 20K mark. Plus these have the amps built it. The main features I like about the CX4F's is the room correction that can make the speakers suitable in almost all rooms. Also the active crossover is fantastic. I cannot understand how supposedly high end speaker manufactures sell speakers with passive crossovers with all the phase and timing issues passives have. The sound with the amps directly connected to the cones, without a crossover in the middle is sublime. I have used these with two 18 inch SGR sealed subs so the CX4F's have never needed to be driven hard. Now for the Question.. Why am I selling: I like the chase! I like to bring together great sounding components and build a Hi Fi set up with synergy. I believe I have done that will my current set up and its time for me to let it all go and rebuild. I know it sounds crazy but that's who I am ..... I will also be listing my source PS audio PWD dac and bridge and Preamp: Modwright LS 36.5 tube preamp. The entire system is the best sounding I have ever had and will cost easily in excess of $30K for me to better. Pictures:
  13. I want to take you back to a more peaceful time, a time when there were no arguments as to the merits of analogue or digital . A time long, long ago when a discussion regarding digital involved a visit to the doctor’s. A time before CD players, silver discs, and high resolution when compression was something relating to engine specifications. A time when Dacs only came as a pair and were something you wore. A time when concerts where held and the entry fee was a round black disc which, when spun relative to a sharp object, spluttered out a revolting sound some referred to as Disco. This is the time when my Journey began - remembering always in motion is the future. In the early ‘70s I developed a love of music founded on listening to my parents’ quadraphonic record-based system. I started down the path of developing my own system in my very early twenties (now over 30 years ago ). With both limited funds and limited access to information I called on a friend who was, at the time, working for AWA, then the distributors for Denon. With decent discounts I put together a basic system consisting of a Denon DRA 550 receiver, a Denon DP 30 L ii turntable and Bose 201 speakers. After living with this system for 18 months the promise of Perfect Sound Forever landed on the Australian continent and I just had to own a slice of this new digital technology. This system stayed with me for about a decade and brought me great pleasure in that time. After a few trips to the Australian Hifi show (http://www.vacuumequipment.com.au/vacuum-equipment-articles/1987/6/17/sounds-like-the-best-in-sophisticated-audio/), then held at the Sydney Airport Hilton, I was inspired to “upgrade†(code for part with more money than I could once again afford). For the next step in my journey I started afresh with Mission 753F speakers, a Marantz CD67se player and a Yamaha RX-V2095 receiver for both home theatre and two-channel duties. In 1997 the home theatre bug bit even harder and I added a Kenwood DVD player, Sharp projector, and M&K subwoofer. Time passed but itchy feet and fatter wallet got the better of me and a handful of years later I added a Musical Fidelity KW550 two channel amp. It was around this point in time that I discovered SNA–yes, Marc has a Hell of a lot to answer for! I started looking for speakers within a budget of $20k. After lots (and lots) of auditioning my short-list was narrowed down to a choice between the SGR Audio CX4F active speakers and a second-hand pair of Wilson Audio Watt/Puppy 8s. After flying between Sydney and Melbourne three times I was surprised, but convinced, that the SGRs where more to my liking. With the SGR Audio CX4Fs and matching CX3C centre speaker settled in at home I sold off my Musical Fidelity KW550. To this day I still cannot believe the huge sonic step up for such a modest out-of-pocket investment. Next I compared the two-channel preamplifier section of my home theatre receiver (by this stage the Yamaha had been replaced with a Denon AVR 4308) with dedicated two channel preamps and decided that I must have the latter. After having three or four preamps in and out of my system I have settled on a Herron VTSP-3 preamp and for the digital front end I upgraded my Marantz CD67se to a Cyrus CD8se with PSXR. A wave of nostalgia then struck and I was bitten by the vinyl bug. Over the past three years I have had as many different turntables in my system; to quote Yoda once again, “hard to see the dark side is.†After a recent relationship with a hot-rodded VPI TNT with JMW 12.5 arm I have landed on a Brinkmann Bardo direct drive turntable with Brinkmann Audio 10.5 tonearm. I am not even sure if landed is the right word here since I am still floating on cloud nine. All I can say is WOW, WOW, WOW! “Once you start down the dark path, forever will it dominate your destiny, consume you it will...†So to summarise the journey to this point I have arrived at a system comprising: SGR Audio CX4F Active Loudspeakers Herron VTSP-3 Linestage Preamplifier Cyrus CD8se CD Player with PSXR Power Supply Brinkmann Audio Bardo Direct Drive Turntable Brinkmann Audio 10.5 Tonearm ZYX Airy 3x Moving Coil Phono Cartridge Kylne 6PX-3.5 Phono Preamplifier SGR Audio/van den Hul interconnects In all of this I must acknowledge the unmatched service and advice I have received from the entire SGR Audio family and SNA member Young Skywalker, both as a valued friend and later in his professional capacity as the Sydney representative for Audio Fidelity Australia. These passionate people have gone above and beyond the call of duty more times than I can recall, whether it be recommending or setting up a component which l did not purchase from them or with their after-sales service relating to SGR Audio active speakers and Brinkmann Audio analogue equipment. I cannot thank them enough; they are a credit to themselves and the companies they represent here in Australia. Am I finished with my audio journey? I think the answer is yes, at least in a few areas, namely the analogue front end, preamp, and cables. I don’t think I have finished with the digital chapter or reached my personal end-game of active speakers just yet. Both of the current components bring me much joy and it will require a financial outlay which is multiples of the cost of each to improve but I can see a clear future path within my budget. Balancing all of life’s callings means that I have to timeline the changes so the plan is: new digital front end for Christmas 2013 and an upgrade of the speakers for Christmas 2014 (the Brinkmann Bardo and 10.5 tonearm was my Christmas present for 2012). I must say that I will be content even if neither plan comes to fruition since both the SGR Audio CX4Fs and Cyrus CD player deliver so much performance for the dollars. I know that I do not have the ultimate high end system, but I have a house filled regularly with joyous music and I am continually astounded by both the quality and the happiness it brings me. “Already know you that which you need.†All I can say is enjoy your journey for... “When 900 years old you reach, look as good you will not ehh.†Some photos below of some of my current system:
  14. Item: SGR SS18P, 18†sealed subwoofer. (Passive) Location: Melbourne, South East (10km from CBD) Not shipping. Too big and heavy :-) Pickup. Or can deliver it myself in Melbourne (within reason!) Price: $1000 Purchased for around $1700 (perhaps even more?? Can’t remember the exact amount) Bought as part of the “SNA /DTV group buy†in July 2010 Item Condition: -Excellent! -Has never been driven hard. Never 'thrashed' or ‘over-driven’ -Never used for Home Theatre, only in my 2ch stereo music rig. -Always used with high quality Amps (Crown & Yamaha). -Has Never been moved once installed Reason for selling: Not used anymore, and it hasn’t been used for a while. My room is too small for a sub like this. I listen mainly at night at ‘low volume’, and I find the Bass is more than adequate from my Usher’s. Now, I would really like the space back to put in another AV stand! Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Direct Transfer, COD. Extra Info: -Fantastic SGR build quality!! Purchased directly from SGR in July 2010. -Still in Warranty!! (Expires June 2013) -Uses Exodus Audio Maelstrom-X 18 inch driver. 40mm Marine Ply enclosure. (125Lt.) -Dual 2 ohm Voice Coils. Can be wired in series for 4 ohm, or in parallel for 1 ohm. -Each coil can also be wired to an independent amplifier channel for 2 ohm (same signal for each amp channel is of course required!) -Dimensions (mm): 660H x 540W x 588D Pictures:
  15. Item: SGR Trapezoids Location: Melbourne or Perth Price: $5200obo Item Condition: Excellent Reason for selling: Change of direction Payment Method: Pickup - Cash Extra Info: Up for sale is my much beloved SGR trapezoids. This is a chance for someone to get a taste of the SGR sound with their own amplifier as these are passive speakers. For the money you get a very serious speaker. Comes with German ribbon midranges and tweeter in an MTM configuration as well as a Focal 13" bass driver, which is the same bass driver as used in the Focal Grand Utopia (which are in themselves worth a google). The quality is obvious, they have the notoriously hard to photograph SGR finish, detachable grills, solid milled aluminium spikes and weigh in at 80kg each. When I bought these I auditioned a great range of speakers and for the money these absolutely trounced the competition. I was originally going to buy a set of speakers from another Australian manufacturer but once I heard these I had to have them as there was no competition. The sound? This is where it gets interesting. With the 13" focal driver these speakers obviously excel in authoritative bass and presence, however they have startling resolution and speed in the bass department. The other element that really won me over with these speakers is the ribbon mids and tweeter, they have excellent soundstage, placement and detail retrieval while still maintaining a lush full sound, the sound presented is effortless and natural. Against their competition in this class this is where they really shone, you can hear the separation between instruments and there's a real sense of space. Also important for me, despite their size they're excellent at low to mid level listening levels. They obviously kick arse at loud volume however! Even though they're quite large they don't need a huge room to shine, I have them in a 5m x 3.5m room and they sound amazing. I'm selling these as I'm moving to Perth and for someone who is going to have to move around a bit for work they're not the most practical member of the family as they weigh in at 80kg each. As such I'd prefer to sell them in Melbourne however they will be available in Perth in a few months. What will I be replacing them with? More SGR, albeit a lighter model. The only issue they have is a tiny paint chip in the rear of one of the speakers, it isn't visible unless you're poking around the back of the speakers. I also promise that they don't come with the reflections of my lounge room, they'll hopefully reflect your own lounge room when they're in there. Audition is welcome. PM me to discuss. Also up for sale will be an 8ft pair of Goertz MI3 'Divinity' 7AWG cables, my REL Strata 5 sub and a piece of Australian hifi history; the Symfonia Opus 10 Amplifier. Specs: Bohlender graebener ribbons. NEO8/NEO3/NEO8 (MTM) 13" Focal bass driver (same as Focal Grande Utopia) Solid, machined aluminium floor spikes. 80kg each Piano black SGR finish Height: 111cm Width: 48cm Depth: 50cm Pictures:
