  1. Item: 2 x REL T9i (White) includes original boxes and REL cables Location:Melbourne Inner East Price: Sold Item Condition: Near Mint Reason for selling: changed my main speakers and moving to a DEQX based setup Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only Extra Info: offering these up for sale as my new music speakers go lower than the previous JBL 4429. I did consider keeping these but it would require purchasing a second slave DEQX device to incorporate these in the system (the DEQX 5 only has 6 channels). These were used as a pair for music, not sound effects. Happy to sell as a pair or separately, but would give preference to local pickup or drop off and if someone would like the pair. I found the REL very easy to tune in by moving the level and crossover frequency up until the sweet spot is found. I personally like the look of these in white but understand that black may be more popular. I found with a lighter carpet or wooden boards these disappear into the room corners more than the black version. REL T9i 300W - The series flagship The T/9i represents the most of T/i that REL can deliver, and if sheer output alone is a primary requirement for your theater or music system then read no further. The combination of a lightweight, composite 10” driver coupled to a matching 10" T/i passive delivers speed, slam and attack when called upon but also is capable of tracing more delicate passages when necessary. Large in sonic scale, the T/9i is ideal for mating up with floor standing speakers and rooms that are on the medium-to-large size. Powerful, concussive, yet beautiful. Features - Closed Box, Active & Passive Drivers - 10" Active Driver & 10" Passive Radiator - 300 Watt Class AB Power Amplifier - Hi-Level, Lo Level & .1 LFE Inputs - 28Hz at -6dB in-room frequency response Photos: Advertisements without photos of the actual item will not be approved.
  2. Item: REL Strata 2 Subwoofer Location: Sydney Price: $525 Item Condition: In great condition for its age Reason for selling: NLR Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal (as a friend or +2.9%), COD Only Extra Info: Up for grabs is my REL Strata 2 subwoofer. It is a wonderful 'musical' subwoofer and out a few subwoofers I've owned was able to integrate with my speakers the best. The subwoofer was used for both music and movie duties, however after selling my AVR it hasn't seen much use for music for about a year or so. Works great, with some minor marks but in great condition considering its age. I have a print out of the manual which will be included. Also included is 2 sets of XLR cabless to connect 'Hi-Level'. 1st is approx 2m and from the other is approx 4m. Fine and coarse gain adjustments to set the xover. This was passed down from my old man who was the original owner. Pick-up only at this stage in Sydney and happy to deliver around Sydney metro area. Also available for audition before purchase and recommended! Photos:
  3. I thought I would share some of my extremely amateur pictures and videos from the recent Bangkok Audio Video show. Apologies for the quality but it is all just recorded poorly on my phone but something is better than nothing right? There is a really good scene here in Thailand for high end gear and some really good retailers. It has exceeded my expectations of what is here and surpases Aus in some respects. Anyways here is a few pics and vids and I will try to talk about each a little. The rooms at the show were really well sized and a lot better than in videos we see from the states etc (not just hotel bedrooms). The rooms where all conference rooms and decently sized for the majority. My favourite room roughly 8x14x3.5m Equipment is Proac Response K8, Rel No.25 array @Sime, Acoustic Arts Mono 3 Amps, The Beast server and an Audioquest Niagara. TT was unfortunately not used. (The speakers were meant to be the new top Elac Concentro but they unfortunately weren't there. The Proacs were very impressive regardless) This system was incredible and was demo'd by a Rel representative who did comparisons of sub vs no sub, 2 sub vs 6 sub array. The sound with no subs was seriously good but with the array was something else. It gave the feel of a live concert with the benefits of a HIFI system. It was never over powering at low volumes 60dB or at over 100dB and made it so much better at either volume level too. The subs filled in effect and made it so much more appealing, natural with a soundstage that was just amazing. They really transformed it into something other-worldly. My next project at home is to integrate my SVS into my system and after this it is a must. I will be buying a second if anyone is considering selling theirs though I wish I could afford the Rel array........ It was great speaking with the Rel guy alone and picking his brain. I have videos I will attach at the end of this post. Next is a room roughly the same as above though with no room treatment whatsoever. Equipment is Focal Grand Utopia 3 (roughly $260k AUD), Esoteric Grandioso stack with Fidelizer server, VTL Siegfried Series 2 monos and TL7.5 pre, Entreq Tellus 2 and more, In the pic is Stirling Trayle who did a talk on system optimisation and another on speaker positioning. The speaker positioning was really good and gave a scientific method rather than just constantly shuffling in semi bling hope. The optimization was good too. The sound of this system was of course amazing especially at higher volumes. At lower it was just so different to the Proac Rel room. It was what you would expect from a >500k system though and was something very special. Stirling travels the world setting up peoples speakers and believes in minimal room treatment after the speakers have been positioned. Got to speak with Stirling for quite a while and learnt quite a bit. The loom with more Entreq This room was about 6x5 with a lot of room treatment including little timber dots everywhere EDIT...Wilson Alexia with some Serbian Nat amps with valves as big as a football, Bergmann Galder TT This was a really nice room but didn't grab me. This next room was roughly 7x9 and had both a Wilson and Avantgarde setup EDIT...Wilson Alexia, D'Agostino Progression, dCS Rossini and Fidelizer server. This was incredible and from memory the monoblocks are a decent step up from the system presented at Audio Connection for their dCS launch which had the same DAC/clock, speakers were Sasha and used the Momentum integrated. I just wish this had it's own room because it was amazing. The other in this room was Avantgarde Duo Mezzo XD and Cary CAD 805AE it was beautiful though played a lot of music that wasn't really my taste and I don't think it was the best recordings. Classical on the Focal Grand Utopias gave me goosebumps but this didn't. Another good room Cessaro Alpha 2, Ayon S10 and Vulcan Evo amps. This was really lovely and the Cessaro rep enjoyed having someone to speak English with. The speakers use TAD drivers and were really special to listen to. He said there is a pair in Sydney and he travels to every customers house to set them up. Bad pic sorry Tannoy Westminster Royal SE and Kengsington GR, Sun Audio and Esoteric Sounded good but didn't grab me. ML ESL 15A and Burmester 911 MK3 This was really really nice and I think the ARC did really well. Burmester amps have always sounded really good everytime I hear them This room had black Focal Sopra 2s. Red Sopra 3s and Orange Sopra 1s (not shown) I was amazed at how the little naim all in one sounded on the Sopra 2s and would happily live with this system. The Micromega all in one amps were pretty crappy on all 3 sets of speakers. The Naim stack with Sopra 3 was beautiful and the best attainable system (for most) that I heard there. Naim really is incredible. 7.3 Elac Unifi, 3x Rel 2 12/SE Rotel RA1580 and 2x RMB-1585 This was pretty cool and I think the Rotel processor is brilliant. A few other systems Stealth 25th Anniversary Karp Horns. Claiming to be the best home theatre speakers in the world. These Daniel Hertz M7 were pretty good. Unsure... There were some other really good systems especially a Stenheim and Vitus room though I don't have pics. A locally made 300b amp for $800 AUD was absolutely beautiful with his own homemade speakers for roughly $3000 AUD One room had Magico bookshelves but he didn't want to set them up same goes with Avantgarde Zero1s The new Paradigm Persona Bookshelves sounded pretty average but had a little amp and not a good space It was a good show with a decent turn out and I was very impressed with the room sizes. I think all shows should try to use conference rooms and not tiny little hotel bedrooms. I'll try to add some videos soon EDITED.. Wilson speakers are Alexia not Sasha S2
  4. Hi,I'm considering buying the REL BASSLINE BLUE CABLES. However, they are quite pricey.I don't mind paying the $500 if its 'bang for buck".However, I was wondering if anyone had a recommendation for something that is better for that kind of price tag.Thx so much, Bob
  5. I am seeking help in choosing between subwoofers principally for a music centred system. That means the subwoofer should be seen rather than heard. I live close to Lifestyle Store, N Parramatta and generally buy through them (they don't stock B&W). I am trying to avoid models that take up huge amounts of floor space and weight a tonne. Amplifier: Devialet 220. Mac user (NO Windows-based computer available for room calibrations, important as some makers offer calibration systems that are Windows only). WIll probably add a second sub much later down the track. The models I'm considering: 1. B&W DB1D Dual 12" It is remarkably compact and not unduly heavy. W 429 x D 410mm. 43kg. Form factor is just perfect (perhaps a touch too good to be true)! Maximum output from Class D amplifier 2000W. Continuous RMS output not stated by the maker (presumably about 1200W). Has auto set-up/room calibration via iPhone app allowing equilisation of different frequency ranges to achieve a flat response, control room nodes. Easier to coordinate low pass filter of the subwoofer with high pass filter on the Devialet eg can set the value at an exact figure. Upgraded model from the previous DB1, which was a Stereophile Class A product (for all that is worth). Not a recognised subwoofer maker. 2. REL Serie S 212/SE Dual 12" Much bigger and heavier. W446 x D507mm. 55kg. At the limit of size/weight tolerance. Really tall at 816mm but REL does this to bring up the sound closer to head height. Universally praised for its seamless integration with music systems coming from a well-respected subwoofer specialist. Class D amplifier: 1000W RMS continuous output, 1700W maximum output (very similar to the B&W). Less expensive than the DB1D by about $1k. No auto set-up/room calibration to control room nodes, but the addition of a second sub might control this better than equalisation anyway (?). Heavier cabinet probably means better resonance control. Can't set low pass filter at an exact figure (has to be done by ear) to match high pass filter on the Devialet amp. Yes, it has the "High Level Input" design to help it blend into the main speakers better (but it is more spaghetti and how much of a difference does it really make?) [3. Rel G-2 10" Reference Subwoofer At W509 x D611mm, it is getting beyond my size tolerance even if it's lighter at 38kg. Why does REL have to make its models sprawl out flat along the floor like this for you to trip over? Add in lack of room calibration and it is out of contention, though a single 10" model may have cleaner bass than a dual 12" model] n.b. frequency response ratings from manufacturers ignored for being unreliable. No independent measurements available for any of these models. B&W stated frequency response range is particularly spurious as the same value is stated for ALL of their models, and is thought to be an equalised value. Frequency response from rival dual 12" models is likely to be similar. Both the N Parra store and a certain Castle Hill HiFi store keep pushing me towards a REL. The Castle Hill stockist of B&W and REL subs said he'd much rather sell me a pair of REL Rel Serie S S/5 SHO 12" subs than a B&W DB1d! But is a REL so inherently superior in its design that it is worthwhile putting up with the larger form factor and lack of auto setup/room calibration? Yes, you are supposed to audition them. But the difference in the audition room acoustics and overall system setup vs. that at home make meaningful comparison extremely difficult. Even if a seller does stock both REL and B&W, it doesn't mean they have all of these specific models in store for an A-B comparison.

  10. I'm running a pair of Monitor Audio Gold 100s and am looking at buying a sub for some proper oompf. I've heard rave reviews of how well RELs integrate, but do they integrate better than a sub made by the same speaker brand? In particular Monitor Audio? If anyone has had any experience with this, I would love to hear your insight.

  15. Item: REL505 Subwoofer Location: Perth Price: $1000 Pick up Only (Bassline sub cable not included) Item Condition: Good Reason for selling: NLR Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only Extra Info: Minor scuffing and small chip on top edge, tried to capture in photo. 16. Item: REL Strata III subwoofer in walnut Location: Adelaide Price: $650 Item Condition: Good considering age - see below Reason for selling #1: need funds for other things Reason for selling #2: New room is too big - see below Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal Extra Info: If I can’t sell this I will happily keep the sub and continue to use dual subs for HT. I am the original owner. I paid $2400 in May 2002 This is a very solid and compact subwoofer. I originally bought it sub for 2ch music. Which I found to be very useful in my old house with my Duntech Viceroys. Quite a few years ago i bought Vaf i66s and I find that these don't require a sub for music. So these days it only gets used for home theatre duties in a 8.5m x 4.1m room. Needless to say the 10inch woofer in the REL isn't suited for HT in such a largish space. I found it was a great in my old old room which was 3.6m x 5.6m x 2.4m The sub is in good condition for its age although the top of it shows signs of fading in parts but this isn't really that noticeable from a metre or so. The coolest thing about the REL is you can connect it for home theatre and two channel simultaneously. It has a LFE input as well as a Speakon connector (mine is around 4.5m to 5m long) that connects to the speaker binding posts on your integrated/power amplifier. I don't believe you can connect it via the speakon connector you have a Class D amp. I have the manual N.B: The light in the power switch has not worked for years. N.B: If using the speakon connector for two channel music and if you insist in turning the sub off at the power when not in use it will occasionally exhibit a low level “crackle” for a minute before settling down. If you leave it on or like me will only use it for LFE it does not do this at all. (even if turning off and on). I'd prefer pick up only as I don't have the original packaging. I can probably drop it in at a pack and send at your risk if you are interstate and interested but I would prefer a local buyer. Please feel free to PM me if you have any questions or comments about this listing. Will donate to SNA when it sells. The donation will depend on the final sale price
  17. Item: Sunfire True Subwoofer 2 x 10" Location:Newcastle NSW Price: $1000 Item Condition:Used Reason for selling:No longer in use Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only Extra Info:Tight bass with massive slam! 18. Item: REL R-Series 205 Sub-Bass System (aka Subwoofer, but REL like to be different) – Closed box loading, 10inch Heavy Duty Long Throw Driver, 200W Class D Amp, High Lvl Neutrik Speakon, LFE and Low Lvl RCA Connectors. (more specs on image below) Location: 2193 - Hurlstone Park Price: $500 + postage & insurance if required. (RRP was $1900ish from memory) - $25 donation to SNA on sale. Item Condition: Visually good and operationally perfect, never missed a beat. The black piano gloss has some wipe marks, in particular on the top, but not very noticeable unless close up. Reason for selling: No longer required, no need for sub in current setup. Payment Method: Pickup - Cash. Postage - PayPal (as friend, or add 3%). Have all original packaging (triple walled box, foam surrounds, protective bag), so shipping is fine. Box size is 415(w) x 500(h) x 400(d), weight 16 kgs. Might also be able to drop off if you are within Sydney metro, NW and Western Sydney, as on the road in those areas a fair amount. Extra Info: I bought this in 2009 to go with a set of TAG 1.7 Bookshelves I owned at the time. I am the original owner and it was purchased from Eastwood Hifi in Sydney. Sub has only ever been run in a 2-channel setup and never been ridden hard. Comes with all original packaging, manual, original power cord and high level neutrik speakon interconnect (connects directly to speaker terminals, the way I had it set up and REL recommend for 2-channel). Please note: spec page from manual lists spikes under supplied accessories - the sub came with the attached feet, but I have never had spikes for this. Have always been very happy with the sound of this supporting three different sets of stand mounts. I would not recommend this for anyone keen on the most gutsy rumbling bass, it is definitely more on the precise, musical side of things – still digs very deep though. All adjustment can be done by removing the glass cover plate on the front of the sub, located just below the grille. Happy for serious local interest to inspect in person (pm me please). I can hook up as well but it is not properly integrated into the current setup. As my active life on SNA has only started very recently, here is the link to my ebay profile for those that need some extra reassurance :-) http://www.ebay.com.au/usr/sunbird-76 Cheers, Ralf Pictures:

  20. HI Guys, My old sub in my HT bit the big one so my Subsonic XS1 has gone from my family room to HT duties and working very well in there with Audyssey Pro calibration. So... I need a new sub for my family room, my Spatial OB's are pretty decent with bass with 2x 15" drivers per speaker. However they aren't quite full range and as my wife likes low level listening I used to use the Subsonic as a form of loudness button . I have to use speaker level connection due to the design of my pre amp, and the integrated I may replace it with only has 1 pre out, which i may like to keep free for a power amp down the track. So seeing as though Rel are famous as Audiophile music subs and pretty much prefer users to use speaker level connection it is the brand I instantly thought of. Just hoping some members may be able to give feedback on longer term ownership. I've had a demo of 1 for a couple of hours at home and liked it however it just looks way too small for my large listening room and I never got the chance to really crank it up.
  21. Hello there friends. This is my first post to the forum and I'm quite new to the game of Hifi. My system currently consists of a Peachtree Nova 65se powering a pair of KEF LS50's on my desktop, nearfield, in a small room that is 2.7m x 3.3m. I love the ls50's but I now have the nagging need to purchase a sub to accompany them. At the moment my two choices are the REL T5 and the SVS SB-1000. I need some advice and opinions on the following. 1.) I know the REL T5 can be connected to this system, but can the SVS? 2.) What would be the more suitable sub for this application, obviously the subs are quite different, 12" vs 8", with the SVS being quite a bit more powerful at 300w vs 125w for the T5. Even though it is such a small room would the more powerful option still be the go? 3.) the two subs are the same price as far as I can tell, at $999, so are we dealing with a difference in sound quality? Any input would be great, thanks guys.

  23. Item: REL Strata III subwoofer in walnut Location: Adelaide Price: $650 $500 Item Condition: Good considering age - see below Reason for selling: No longer required Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal Extra Info: This is a very solid, compact subwoofer. I am the original owner. I paid $2400 I originally bought it sub for music. Which I found to be very useful in my old house with my Duntech Viceroys. Quite a few years ago I bought Vaf i66s and I find that these don't require a sub for music. The sub is in good condition for its age although the top of it shows signs of fading in parts but this isn't really that noticeable from a metre or so. The coolest thing about the REL is you can connect it for home theatre and two channel simultaneously. It has a LFE input as well as a Speakon connector (mine is around 4.5m to 5m long) that connects to the speaker binding posts on your integrated/power amplifier. If running direct from your two channel amp, the amp will run the speaker full range with REL adding some fill or presence in the lower octaves. I don't believe you can connect it via the speakon connector you have a Class D amp. I have the manual Two Minor issues: The light in the power switch has not worked for years. If using the speakon connector for two channel music and if you insist in turning the sub off at the power when not in use it may “crackle” for a little while before settling down. If you leave it on or for LFE it does not do this at all. (even if turning off and on) ***This has not happened at all in the last 6 weeks*** I'd prefer pick up only as I don't have the original packaging. I can probably drop it in at a pack and send at your risk if you are interstate and interested Please feel free to PM me if you have any questions or comments about this listing. Will donate to SNA when it sells. The first photo below shows the fading to the top of the sub.

Item: REL Strata III subwoofer in walnut Location: Adelaide Price: $850 $700 Item Condition: Good considering age - see below Reason for selling: New room is too big - see below Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Extra Info: Expressions of Interest at this stage. I’m looking to sell this in early April. If I can’t sell this I will happily keep the sub and buy a second sub and run both for HT. If it does sell I will buy a bigger sub to run it alone for HT I am the original owner. I paid $2400 This is a very solid compact subwoofer. I originally bought it sub for music. Which I found to be very useful in my old house with my Duntech Viceroys. Quite a few years ago i bought Vaf i66s and I find that these don't require a sub for music. So these days it only gets used for home theatre duties in a 8.5m x 4.1m room. Needless to say the 10inch woofer in the REL struggles with the boom boom crash effects of movies in such a large room.
