Lovely copy with barely a thing to note. Some great songs here, including the mega hit ‘No More “I Love You’s”’ $35 Diana Krall – Glad Rag Doll – 2012 double vinyl LP in gatefold (0602537126941) VG+/VG++. Just very light edgewear the only thing to mark it down. Two lovely discs. $40 Amanda Palmer & The Grand Theft Orchestra – Theatre Is Evil – 2012 double vinyl gatefold (0762189402517) VG+/VG++. Two lovely records. Cover has split seams at the bottom opening on both sides, and central split on bottom edge both sides. Big, heavy cardboard cover gives the whole thing some heft. $35 Deep Dish - Yoshiesque Two - 5xLP UK original in slipcase (REACTLP187) VG+/VG+ . Generally great condition with all records looking lovely. Disc 4 could do with a clean by your preferred method, else more than presentable. Sleeve is slightly marked but absolutely astounding it has been kept in such beautiful condition. Overall, a dance classic of 5 LP’s in original slipcase, in rarely seen near-pristine condition. $55 Jeff Buckley – Live A Sin-E Box set RSD 2018 - Limited and numbered (88985494801) N.Mint inside and out, complete w/everything in pristine box. #4939 $75 The Who - Who's Next - USA 1971 OG (DECCA DL-79182) – Rainbow Decca labels. Unsurpassed original Doug Sax master tape press of The Who's all-time masterwork. With W-2X in the runoff on both sides.. And they rock like no other OG. Visually, the record is a nice VG+ on each side with only some very light hairlines - far better than what I usually encounter. Sonically, Side 1 has everything coming in at a solid VG++ or better, save for the unavoidable VG+ sections of Baba & Bargain's soft parts, and the intro to Song Is Over. Side 2 is very much the same, save for the usual VG+ stuff during the intro to Gettin' In Tune & Behind Blue Eyes, and some of the organ parts of Won't Get Fooled. Cover is a solid VG+, with some light wear and creasing, mostly towards the rear black side. The record has been VPI cleaned and placed in a new Japanese die-cut poly inner sleeve. $80 Coldplay - Rush Of Blood To The Head (WHITE B&N exclusive) NM/NM unsealed, no hype sticker on front, else complete and lovely. Somewhat forgotten album, and that’s a pity because songs like ‘Clocks’ , 'In My Place', 'The Scientist' and 'Green Eyes' (to name just 4) are near as dammit perfect modern rock/pop. $45 Coldplay - A Rush of Blood To The Head - B&N exclusive WHITE vinyl limited for JULY release month (190295649852) SEALED and NEW with everything. $55 Bob Dylan - Dylan - 1973 AUS press (SBP 234429) VG/VG+. Nice copy, light wear, lovely disc in MOFI sleeve. $15 The Beatles - The Beatles Box - Japanese pressed Box set compete with everything and Mint discs (ODEON). VG/VG++. Box has edgewear, but contents are all really nice. 8 fantastic vinyl LP's. Great condition and a super price! $90 Diana Ross – Diana – CLEAR vinyl repress Barnes & Noble Exclusive, Original Vinyl Cover Art With Gatefold, Ltd ed of 1000 only (3700477826666) with OBI, as new. $38 Blues Brothers - Blues Brothers - O.S.T. - BLUE Friday Music vinyl (829421160175) new, never sealed. $40 Brand New - Science Fiction - 2LP - 2017 double black wax press (616892525547) in shrink, as new. $40

Anderson .Paak's 2nd studio album from 2016 rips thru Hip Hop, Funk, Soul, R&B, Neo Soul and Disco styles with equal ease, and tears 'em all a new one in the process. Earned a Grammy nomination along the way too..."A rose from concrete, 'Malibu' offers a sense of wonder that's carefully rooted in funk and soul, and presents a complete vision from a blossoming new artist that's not only fearless, but leading something of a sonic revolution." A stunning album...and one you've got to try if you like any of the styles mentioned above. The word keeps spreading and the variant pressings keep selling out. When you do try it on vinyl, make sure you have it on this limited 300 copy only release. $80 Pantera - Vulgar Display Of Power - 2 DISC SET - 2010 Rhino RSD Double Vinyl re-release of 5000 copies (081227981273) SEALED NM/NM. One of the most influential heavy metal albums of the 1990s, Vulgar Display of Power is just what is says: a raw, pulverizing, insanely intense depiction of naked rage and hostility that drains its listeners and pounds them into submission. Lovely copy without a mark. $50 Heaven & Hell - The Devil You Know - 2016 repress double coloured vinyl, one orange marble and one gold marbled ROCKTOBER gatefold vinyl (R1 519252) VG+/VG++. Etched on one side (D), with very nice band poster. Limited Edition Gatefold Only available in the U.S. of 2,000 copies. When metal masters Ronnie James Dio, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, and Vinny Appice reunited for the first time in 15 years to record new bonus tracks for Rhino's 2007 compilation Black Sabbath: The Dio Years, an otherworldly force reignited their musical connection. 'Everyone had so much fun playing together that we didn t want it to end,' the band recalls. It didn't- they reformed as Heaven & Hell- named for the classic 1980 LP that was the lineup's debut as Sabbath-and staged a triumphant, sold-out world tour throughout 2007-2008. Fueled by their chemistry on the road, the quartet returned to the studio in 2008 to record THE DEVIL YOU KNOW, their first new set of original material since 1992's Dehumanizer. Cover good but for one bumped corner top right front, splits top middle edges of about 5cm on each side of the gatefold sides. Two perfect beautiful records. $50 **** 1 copy left - identical *** Van Morrison – Astral Weeks – clear vinyl remaster Rhino Premium HQ-180 Rocktober (RCV11768) VG+/NM. Cover still in 98% of factory shrink. Large bend bottom right front, else lovely cover and perfect vinyl. No inner in this repress. $30 Mastodon - Crack The Skye - US 2009 single black LP original (093624979098) NM/VG++. Cover is perfect, record has some light marks only from removal from white paper sleeve. $26 Aerosmith – Music From Another Dimension – 2LP red vinyl + CD (887254428114) SEALED NM/NM. Music From Another Dimension is Aerosmith's first album in over a decade, and it's full of '70s hard rock riffs that reward every class of Aero-historian. Want Rocks? There's the anxiety-volcano “Lover Alot”. Want Toys? Joe Perry's “Street Jesus” is plucked right from the attic. Want Rock In A Hard Place? You’ll be satisfied too. And I'm including an authentic & very cool "JUST PUSH PLAY" World Concert 2001 Tour t-shirt (Large to XLarge sizing)! $45 **** 2 copies **** The Smiths - Meat Is Murder - 2012 Rhino repress (825646658787) SEALED VG+/NM. What an album. Very nicely handled by Rhino. Two copies have just a light bump on their bottom right corner, the third copy a more significant one (noticeable). One copy SOLD - One copy @ $28, one copy at $26. Both sealed. ---> And even MORE copies of some VERY good stuff you may have already seen... (either I got a new one in, or I've marked down a copy that didn't sell in the last little lot). In no particular order.... Guardians Of The Galaxy / O.S.T. - Deluxe vinyl Editon gatefold 2 DISC SET (0002054901) VG++/NM. Still in 98% of factory shrink-wrap with no wear, so gatefold still 'sealed'. The best deluxe version of the original strck, sounding huge and still very exxy to buy locally, unfortunately. But not here. Discs are almost New (just light marks from the paper inners) and unplayed. New outer poly... $37 **** 2 copies *** Eagles - Hotel California - 2015 US repress gatefold with poster (0821227961619) VG++/VG++. Beautiful repress with inner, new poster and white poly-lined inner. New outer poly naturally. Disc is shmick as you like and mastered by Bernie Grundman for vinyl. Copy #1 is $32. Second copy has spine wear on the writing, so VG+/VG++, and $28. Red Hot Chili Peppers – Blood Sugar Sex Magik - 2 DISC SET (468348-1) VG/VG++. Remains an essential funk rock title from the Grunge years. Sounding amazing on this quality 2 disc repress. Cover has some ripping top left front, some edge bumps and small wrinkles. The back is near faultless. With insert. Perfect inserts. Two near new discs with only the lightest brush marks on the second. $28 Second copy is VG+/VG++ with light wrinkling along spine and top/bottom edges. Inserts great. Two awesome discs. $32 **** 2 copies *** Metallica - Hardwired: To Self-Destruct - 2 DISC SET (BLCKND031-1) VG++/NM. Metallica's visit back to the old, simpler days. They succeed and this album is a lot of fun, in a nice double LP package. Cover is perfect but for one bumped corner (bottom gatefold opening). Both inserts perfect. Two perfect Chris Bellman mastered records in two plain paper poly-lined inners. $38 Second copy has a light scratch cat impression along top front middle cover, else idential. $38 **** 4 copies *** Metallica (Black - Self Titled) - 2 DISC SET (BLCKND008-1) VG to VG-/NM-SEALED. Still selling 5000 fresh copies every single year since it was released...this remarkable album shows no signs of every getting 'old'. This double repress sounds fantastic too. Copy #1 is SEALED and VG/NM. The shrink is tight, but has a light rip back right. Bends top right front (so on back left too), cat scratches on front as well, some light bends along the spine. $28 Copy #2 and #3 have covers that have some medium rubbing wear and impressions marks on the black front cover. List # 7 - Progressive Rock & Other * The Nice - Greatest Hits - NM / M - $16.00 * Horslips - The Book of Invasions - A Celtic Symphony - ILS NM / Nm - small dimples - $14.00 Here's a review: One of the best examples from "Rock Symphonies" genre. Horslips shows that a massive symphony orchestra is really not needed to produce a symphonic sound. Good compositions with strong themes and precise execution is the thing. This album contains a multitude of excellent songs e.g "The Rocks Remain", "Sword of Light" and "Warm Sweet Breath of Love" with such intense absolute tops like "King of Morning, Queen of Day" and the final crushing blow of "Ride to Hell". SOLD * Horslips - Aliens - GFC - label residue -NM / NM - $14.00 (Surprisetech) 8th album by the great Irish Prog group Horslips, great precursors of Celtic Rock in general and Celtic Prog in particular. Firmly based in Irish Folk music and the Celtic tradition, the band incorporated these themes with Prog, creating exciting and outstanding music, which withstands the tides of time beautifully. The band included guitarist John Fean, multi—instrumentalist Charles O`Connor, keyboardist Jim Lockhart, bassist Barry Devlin and drummer Eamon Carr. All five musicians contributed their musical ideas as composers and four of them (except the drummer) shared the vocal duties. This release is Rockier and less Celtic in comparison to their earlier albums, but still an excellent album overall. It is the third part of a trilogy, which started with "The Book Of Invasions" and ended with "The Men Who Built America". This newly remastered edition includes bonus tracks and is exquisitely packaged. A must for all Prog fans! * Greenslade - Spyglass Quest - dimples - GFC - small sticker damage on TRHS otherwise EX++ / EX++ - checked now - plays fine - $14.00 * Greenslade - Spyglass Quest - US copy dimples - GFC - EX++ / EX++ dimples - checked out just now and plays fine after an additional clean - $15.00 - * Colosseum II - War Dance - EX++ - some label evidence SRWORC - / EX++ - $12.50 A review: On War Dance, each musician SMOKES! It's Musicianship with a capital "M" all the way! Gary Moore's guitar playing has never been hotter, Don Airey earns his stripes to prove he's one of the top keyboardists of all time, and the rhythm section of John Mole (bass) and Jon Hiseman (percussion) is amazing. The interraction between musicians is breathtaking and each track is a killer. It's no wonder that modern-day "progressive rock" groups such as Dream Theater and Symphony X found inspiration for their music by listening to classics such as this album. Brilliant, absolutely brilliant! SOLD * Colosseum - Electric Savage - NM / EX++ - $12.50 - SURPRISETECH * Ypsilon - Metro Music Man - EX- (SRWORC - label evidence - GFC) / Ex- rare collectible copy on Phillips label - $16.00 Ekseption - Beggar Julia's Time Trip - GFC - NM / M - as close to pristine as you'll ever see of this exceptional album. Pretty rare - $20.00 A review: This is the 2nd album by the excellent Dutch Prog group Ekseption, founded and led by keyboardist Rick van der Linden. The group played mostly material composed by the leader or Rock interpretations of Classical compositions, somewhat similar to what Keith Emerson and The Nice did at the time in Britain. After leaving the group in 1973, the keyboardist formed the group Trace, which continued in the similar musical direction. This is a concept album, musically structured like a symphonic work. Excellent compositions and perfect execution make it a great example of Dutch and European Prog at its best. Highly recommended! Ekseption - Back To The Classics - NM / M - Rare copy on the Philips label - $16.00 If you enjoy bands like Nice / Focus / Trace / ELP any of the Ekseption albums will amaze you. Ekseption - 3 - NM / m - Beautiful German copy on the original Philips label - $18.00 A review: Once the Ekseption machine was switched on, it was really hard to be slowed down, even if the line-up changes were a frequent phenomenon for the band. Vocalist Michel van Dijk parted ways with Ekseption to taste a brief stint with Brainbox and later to join Alquin. He was replaced by Steve Allet (born as Coen Merkelbach). Also drummer Peter de Leeuwe returned behind the drum kit, replacing Dennis Whitebread, who went on to join Cargo under his real name of Dennis Witbraat. Even so van der Linden & co. recorded a third album for Phillips in 1970, simply entitled ''3'', another concept album around the story of Le Petit Prince. Again the music is largely instrumental with strong Classical influences and van der Linden adapting moments from the timeless music of Bach, Rachmaninoff and Beethoven, mixing them cleverly with a fascinating Jazz/Horn Rock and obvious 60's psychedelic influences. Superb work on Hammond organ and harpsichord with beautiful manipulations, offering both melodic and virtuosic themes, highlighted by the excellence of the background trumpets and saxes. Grandiose and pompous instrumental textures, that are pleasant to the ear and, even a bit dated, speak straight to the heart of the listener. New singer Steve Allet had a very Jim Morrison-kind of singing style and in fact a couple of songs in the album do sound like a Classical version of The Doors with deep, psychedelic overtones, for example the fantastic ''On Sunday they will kill the world''. For the most of its length the album is majestic with nice string sections, dreamy horn sounds and ethereal keyboards, while the songs are perfectly structured to deliver both magnificent melodies and more progressive colours, led by the complexity of Classical Music's fundamentals. Note that most of the lyrics were written by Dutch radio-presenter Will Luikinga. Impressive combination of Classical and Jazz/Horn Rock in a highly adventurous album, full of pompous, very tight pieces and a deeply symphonic finesse. SOLD * Yes -The Yes Album (W.D) - Good / VG- $7.00 (SPIDER27) * Steve Howe - (YES) The Steve Howe Album - ILS / M / M - $14.00 Far and away his best solo album, this is a satisfying smorgasbord of everything Howe does well: majestic acoustic playing, sly rock and boogie, and Chet Atkins-style pickin'. And thankfully this time Steve's content to leave most of the singing to others, specifically Claire Hamill. Of interest to far more than just guitar bores and Yes fans. Here's 2 reviews that sum up this band nicely. When I was young I often used to buy an album just by looking at the cover, not knowing what kind of music I was taking home... I must have had an angel on my shoulder as more than often I discovered some real gems that way. This record was one of these gems...! A cross between Queen and The Beatles, and to spice it all up, a singer with the vocal aura of a Randy Newman... Never a dull moment as gentle piano passages were broken up by sudden high-powered guitar solos and even the male choir of the Singing Mounties...! "Rangers At Midnight" is a tonic for every bad mood...! Crack The Sky was one of these rare bands that didn't shy away from CREATIVITY. A quality sadly missed in today's rock scene..... You might expect the follow up to a masterpiece of a Progressive Rock album like Crack The Sky's debut to be a letdown, but that's not the case with Animal Notes. Baltimore's finest are back here with a vengeance, cranking out their own unique hybrid synthesis of Progressive Rock meets Power Pop on wonderful cut after wonderful cut. The musicianship is just as tight and focused as the debut, the song-writing and lyrics are just as unique and grand. I highly recommend Crack The Sky's self-titled debut, Animal Skins and it's follow up Safety In Numbers to any Progressive Rock fan. You'll be impressed. A review: A duo of rather unknown musicians, guitarist Peter Bonus and flutist Danny Wilding, gathering an all-star line-up to perform their compositions, members of Brand X, Automatic Man, Can and Traffic. This is a very nice blend of funky Jazz Fusion and dense Prog Rock with instrumental power, very good interplays and Wilding's flute work shining through. The album's mood ranges from happy funky instrumentals and exotic tunes with percussion to full-blown Fusion with rich solos and complex instrumental Prog with quite a technical demonstration. Eddie Jobson (Zinc) - The Green Album - NM (Punch hole in top LHS / M Canadian import - $18.00 An awesome initial solo effort from Jobson, who at the time had held jobs playing keyboard and violin in acts as diverse as Roxy Music, Jethro Tull, Frank Zappa, and UK. The vibe on The Green Album is gleaming, synth-injected progressive rock, that to my ear recalls Yes circa Drama or (a less poppy) 90125, with Jobson's piercing vocals and an airtight rhythm section driving focused, hooky tunes like "Resident," "Green Face," and "Listen to Reason." Though he does bring out the violin time to time, it's Jobson's sleek keyboard arrangements that form the backbone to The Green Album, with the occasional spacey instrumental bridging the vocal tunes. This one delivers. (BLACK ORANGE) Ethos - Ardour - NM (ILS) / M - A stunning progressive rock masterpiece from USA featuring some insane keyboards throughout. I snagged what may have been one of a very small number of copies that were imported into Australia so you won't see this one very often. One of my favourite albums of all time and very sadly let go - $50.00 A review: A rather forgotten band from USA, this quintet hailed from Fort Wayne at the state of Indiana ETHOS got lucky to be signed by Capitol Records and soon they moved to New York in order to record their first album. By the end of 1975 the work was almost ready and the eight arrangements of ''Ardour'' were all written by the leader of the band, vocalist/mandolin player/guitarist Will Sharpe. ''Ardour'' is the absolutely perfect example of balanced instrumentation and also an absolute heaven of instrumental interplays. While the band delivers an evident symphonic sound, the variety of instruments and the alternation of sounds, moods and tempos will leave you speechless. The sound of the band is a great mix of early-KING CRIMSON's cleverness and YES' complexity with touches of GENESIS and GENTLE GIANT. Will Sharpe's vocals are reminiscent of KING CRIMSON's Greg Lake, while Hammond delivers an amazing performance on mellotron, with the various flutes and strings blended with piano and organ creating a chaotic atmosphere. Stephenson's bass lines are complex and heavy in the vein of YES' Chris Squire and Sharpe's guitar parts are also in the path of YES' Steve Howe. The polyphonic vocal harmonies resemble to a bastardation of YES- and GENTLE GIANT-like harmonies, while some delicate organ/mellotron parts will remind you of GENESIS' Tony Banks. The musicianship is fantastic and all tracks are...what can I say...maybe the right term should be ''accessibly complex''!...I honestly love this album, which came as a total surprise to me...ETHOS were a US band, obviously influenced by the British acts of the time, who managed to refine their inspiration in a personal, amazingly-crafted and perfectly-composed LP! Ethos - Open Up - NM / M - Follow-up to the excellent debut but it was all over after the 2nd album unfortunately. You probably never even knew these guys existed yet I was lucky enough to stumble upon amazing stuff like this for years. You probably won't see this sort of material that often. $35.00 A review: Ethos play in a style with touches from a range of prog groups of the era - there's some very Chris Squire bass from Brad Stephenson and Robert Fripp guitar from Will Sharpe, for instance - with an overall sound reminiscent of a looser and more ragged around the edges take on classic Yes, with an injection of mercurial unpredictability which serves their ends well. And what Yesalike would be complete without a little hippy-dippy New Agery - in this case, coming in the form of the Utopian vision of Sedona. In short, a very interesting little package which would surely have received more attention had it come out four years or so earlier. Fireballet - Night On Bald Mountain - NM / M - Stunningly good gem from USA that is amongst my favourites from the 70's. They just don't make 'em like this anymore. If you needed to add Ethos to yer kleckshun, then you need this as well. A real keeper!- $40.00 A review: Short-lived US band from New Jesrsey, performing in a Classic Prog vein in the mid-70's.They consisted of Jim Cuomo on vocals/drums, Bryan Hough and Frank Petto on keyboards, Ryche Chlanda on guitars and Martyn Biglin on bass/12-string guitars. Their debut ''Night on Bald Mountain'' was released in 1975 on Passport Records, produced by Ian McDonald of King Crimson's fame and recorded between February and April of 75' at the Broadway Recording Studios in New York. The 10-min. opening cut ''Les Cathedrales'' sets definitely the lines of Fireballet's music. Filled with odd time signatures, complex breaks but also harmonic pieces, the track offers plenty of enjoyable moments and sounds like Steve Howe and Chris Squire of YES jamming with Tony Banks of GENESIS, delivering great bass and guitar work along with diverse keyboard and piano lines. ''Centurion'', although shorter, doesn't seem to change the fate of the album. GENESIS/YES-influenced Progressive Rock with good multi-choirs and a great energetic feeling with some full space for instrumental madness, where organ and synths are prominent. ''The Fireballet'' on the other hand has some very strong YES influence, where Cuomo sound much like JON ANDERSON along with same influence on the multi-vocal parts, bass and guitars. This time ''Atmospheres'' is fully GENESIS-inspired (''Trespass'' era), a soft prog ballad with an ANTHONY PHILLIPS-like smooth guitar delivery and calm piano along with the guest appearance of Ian McDonald on flutes. The grand 19-min. epic ''Night on Bald Mountain'' was Fireballlet's approach on the classic Mussorgsky piece and of course the most ambitious composition of the album. But while this one contains some quite grandiose and ground-breaking musicianship for the time, today it sounds less fresh but certainly not dated. Fireballet kept the basic structure of the track, adding their own personality through the massive use of analog keys, mostly huge-sounding organ and synths parts along with the needed piano parts, to come up with a decent effort, characterized by a cinematic sound. A couple of moments recall the evident DEEP PURPLE influence of the band as well and the performance of Cuomo reaches some high level. File next to other great US prog bands such as CATHEDRAL, ETHOS, BABYLON or STARCASTLE. Nice and complex Symphonic Rock with some fine arrangements and great ideas throughout, where personality is an unknown work. Warmly recommended to fans of the Classic Prog age. Fireballet - Two, Too - NM (SRWOC) / M - An excellent follow-up to their debut - Not to be missed - $25.00 A review: The sophomore effort from Fireballet doesn't sound like their debut, and that's perhaps why it's so underrated. But if I have to pick a favourite of the two albums that Fireballet put out, it would be this one. Strangely enough, to my knowledge, Two Too has never been released on CD, but the complete album appears as the seven bonus tracks on Night on Bald Mountain, though that fact is not revealed by the liner notes nor stated anywhere on the CD cover! So ignored and overlooked is this album, a hidden gem indeed! As Night on Bald Mountain is full of early 70s symphonic rock clichés and rip-offs from Yes, Van der Graaf Generator et al, this second release sounds more innovative and forward-looking (it's a pity that Two Too would be their last offering). The seven tracks are all well-crafted, with great musicianship and vocal harmonies. The music can be described as quirky avant rock disguised as lush pop. Sometimes reminiscent of Zappa, Gentle Giant (especially Interview, also released in 1976) and 10cc/Godley & Creme, and even avant-prog yet to come. Rare Bird - Born Again - NM - slight delamination on LHS & top but nothing serious / NM - one or two very faint scuffs - 5th and final album before they called it quits. - $18.00 SOLD * Gino Vannelli - The Gist of the Gemini - EX+ / GFC / M - $13.50 (FULL RANGE) Mario Millo - Epic III - GFC NM - (PHIC) / M - The excellent 2nd solo album by the brains behind Windchase & Sebastian Hardie - Almost a pristine copy apart from the deletion cut. Pretty scarce album - $22.00 A review: Born to Italian parents in 1955, Mario Millo is an Australian guitar virtuoso, mostly known for his performances with Sebastian Hardie and its reincarnation Windchase from mid- to late-70's. After the disbanding of Windchase, Millo collaborated with Jon English for the soundtrack of the TV series ''Against the wind''. In 1979 Millo released on Polydor Records his debut solo album ''Epic III''. On this album Millo is helped among others by ex-Bakery/Syrius bassist Jackie Orszáczky and ex-Spectrum/Ayers Rock drummer Mark Kennedy. The album opens with the Progressive/Fusion 14-min. self-titled epic, where Millo shows off his clear Camel-esque influences with his excellent virtuosic playing, supported by the funky bass lines of Orszaczky and the electric piano of keyboardist, Peter Kenny, while at moments he uses the folk notes of his mandolin, actually the first instrument he ever got in hand at the age of five. ''Life in Our Hands'' reminds a lot of Millo's days with Sebastian Hardie, Melodic Rock with a memorable chorus, fairly commercial but not cheesy at all, while ''Mary's theme'' is absolutely fabulous with a mix of Symphonic and Canterbury-Fusion style close to Camel and fantastic chords by Millo. ''Quest Theme'' is dominated by synths, acoustic guitars, flutes and choirs, creating a pastoral Symphonic Rock experience, but ''Harlequin and Columbine'' is absolutely dull, male and female vocals are blended with dated cinematic orchestrated music, a track totally out of place. The short ''Castaway'' is again in Progressive/Fusion realms with nice guitar work, while ''Sogno D'amore'' closes the album's original version in a very Camel-esque mood with bluesy guitars and orchestrated strings. Millo proved that he can stand alone easily, delivering a series of outstanding performances on ''Epic III'', though the album is not coherent as a whole and has a light commercial vibe in a couple of tracks. Still, the man belongs to the first league of Progressive Rock guitarists and deserves some more recognition. (My Add) - Can't really agree about "Harlequin & Columbine" - not a bad track at all. Mario Millo / Cos Russo - The New Adventure - World Safari II - M / M - $12.00 This was written for that doco featuring Albie Mangels and his hot chic in the bikini. SOLD - McDonald & Giles - McDonald & Giles - GFC - M / M - An excellent copy of this seminal work from these King Crimson members. This is the album that King Crimson never managed to write. Side 2's "Birdman" is killer and right up there with the best that KC released. A timeless classic! - $25.00 (FULL RANGE) Daryl Ways Wolf - Saturation Point - EX+ (some de-lamination on LHS / NM but as close to mint as you'll ever find. This is an original 1st pressing from Deram and is really quite exceptional, not only for its general rarity, desirability and vinyl quality but the music is also great. I see VG copies of this going for around $40 so adding $5.00 for a minty seems really fair. - Grab it now for $45.00 as you won't find better! A review: WOW! When a progressive rock band has violin and guitars in his music, usually they are not played at the same time. In fact, they are simultaneously played here, and this really contributes to give Wolf a very personal trademark. This not very well known prog band gives us here a wonderful album, full of impressive violin, electric + acoustic guitars and dynamic & punchy bass! No one else than Ian Mosley himself(Marillion)plays the drums here: they are very well played and quite complex. Everything is very well synchronized, like Gentle Giant. It sounds a bit like Curved air, Caravan, Happy the man, Gentle Giant and Frank Zappa, but this album has really its own sound, and this makes the band very interesting. The record is mainly instrumental, and the keyboards are surprisingly rare, simple and discreet: they mainly consist in electric piano. This record is heavier and more symphonic and straightforward than "Canis Lupus": there are some very seriously loaded parts, very progressive, and the violin is more omnipresent. ( My add) - If you enjoy music from Eddie Jobson / Jean Luc Ponty / Curved Air / Gentle Giant or any of the progressive rock / jazz fusion stalwarts from the 70's, this is right up yer cul-de-sac. Gordon Haskell - It Is And It Isn't - NM / M - $18.00 2 reviews: Haskell has a great voice that's perfectly suited to the radio, meaning that most of these twelve tracks would have sounded great on mid-1970s radio (not that the album generated any attention). With backing from guitarist Alan Berry (who gets a cool bell sound out of his guitar) and King Crimson alumnus/keyboardist John Wetton, Haskell's at his best on up-tempo rockers such as ''No Meaning, 'Could Be' and 'Sitting By the Fire' and the outright pop stuff ('No Need'). Curiously, a couple of on-line reviews label the effort as being Gordon Lightfoot-styled folk. Other than the fact tracks such as 'Upside Down' and 'Just a Lovely Day' are pretty acoustic numbers, the comparison doesn't have much merit to my ears. Anyhow, in total it makes for a pretty impressive album, with my favortie track being the bizarre 'Worms'. A pleasant solo album from one time King Crimson bassist/vocalist who was an early bandmate of Robert Fripp in his 60's (not 80's) group The League Of Gentlemen. Not exactly prog in a Crimson context, but prog related you could say, following his brief stint in KC. Nice songs, good playing, especially from John Wetton who also gets a credit for organ! Fields - Fields - GFC - Original UK import on the CBS label. NM - small label residue on top RHS + SRWOC (very minor) / EX+ A play test revealed no serious issues (no skips or loud annoying clicks) with this excellent release from 1971, despite having a few scuffs and marks. Amazing work for a 3 piece outfit including Graham Field (ex Rare Bird), Andrew McCulloch, (went to Greenslade) and Alan Barry (McDonald & Giles (K.C). and Gordon Haskell (K.C). Copies of this fetch seriously big money, (almost $400) but as this copy doesn't include the original poster, $100.00 will get you a slice of prog heaven like no other. Highest recommendation. I recall being able to play this excellent LP without issues in the 70's but a check today reveals some sabotage to the first side as there looks like 5 deliberate evenly spaced scratches near the beginning plus a few further in. I know I would never damage an album in this way and cannot explain why its condition has been compromised so much. Perhaps I pissed off the handbrake? Who knows. This is such a shame as originals of this go for around - $40-$60. You only need to pay for side 2 so $10.00 will suffice. Damn! (SURPRISETECH) Le Orme - Uomo di Pezza - GFC - M / M - 2nd issue with the orange peel textured cover and also in demand - $35.00 A review: Uomo di Pezza, Le Orme's fourth album, opens appropriately enough with an organ prelude joined by a complex and heavy rhythm section. Silence begets a piano melody and then Aldo's beautiful voice enters. The model found on Collage has been rediscovered and exploited. So with that, Uomo di Pezza is ostensibly going to be a more sophisticated affair. As well, concerning instrumentation, Le Orme becomes more diverse. Here they add more acoustic guitar to the mix and the organ isn't as prominent as the newly acquired Mini-Moog. Gone are the jams and the reckless abandon found on Collage, to be replaced by more angular and thought-out creative music. "La Porta Chiusa" is the perfect example of the new and improved Le Orme. A thundering bass and drum layer is offset by a Moog dial turn (as in turning the radio from soft to loud). Aldo then begins to sing softly, but somewhat eerily, only to find counterpoint with a thunderous organ, Moog, bass and drum maelstrom. For pure songwriting, "Figure di Cartone" and "Aspettando L'Alba" are brilliant examples of melancholic beauty, especially the latter (which would've been the perfect soundtrack to an arty Italian film). Aldo's emotional voice is perfect for this kind of style and unfortunately they were unable to capture this magic on their later, more commercial, efforts. What separates Uomo di Pezza from the others is the perfect balance between the raw heaviness found on the predecessor with the more uppity aspirations of pretension to be heard on their next opus. A true classic and, for me, Le Orme's finest work. For vinyl collectors, consider obtaining the original LP which portrays the beautiful fantasy art in a delightful textured gatefold sleeve. Import copy on the Italian Riccordi label. A real gem from my kleckshun - Yours for $35.00 (ANANTH) A review: Formed in 1969 in Rome,Italy, BANCO DEL MUTUO SOCCORSO are one of the top examples of the 70's Italian prog rock wave's bands. Founding members were brother/keyboardists Vittorio Nocenzi and Gianni Nocenzi. After some early line-up changes, the band had finally a 6-member secure column to fully develop their ideas on a LP. This would be released in 1972 carrying the band's name as a title. The magnificence, brilliance and majesty of this album goes beyond simple words. ''Banco del mutuo soccorso'' is built around the double keyboard interplays of Nocenzi brothers and the crystalline operatic voice of singer Francesco Di Giacomo, featuring unbelievable grandiose organ-dominated parts and classical/crying piano themes accompanied by the expressive/emotional vocal lines of Di Giacomo. But there are also some really amazing rockin' parts, led by aggressive guitars and pounding bass with slight jazzy influences. Balanced between emotions/sensitivity and complexity/aggressiveness this work is an absolute killer of the legendary Italian symphonic rock scene of the 70's,that should appeal to all lovers of demanding musicianship and deep expressions! SOLD - Banco - Canto Di Primavera - NM (SRWOC (+ ILS) / M - An original Italian copy on the Riccordi label - This fetches over A$120 in Europe but this copy for $50.00 for an original minty! (AKIRA) RESERVED - Banco Del Mutuo Soccorso - Banco - GFC - M / NM - A stunning copy of their excellent 4th album on the Manticore label. - $35.00 (ANANTH) A review: Banco is an outstanding progressive band from Italia. The omnipresent tons of keyboards are really symphonic and some sound really electronic, sometimes lacking warmth: they sound like early Synergy (Larry Fast) and Walter Carlos (A clockwork orange soundtrack). Actually there are 2 keyboardists, so this record is keyboards oriented, despite the tons of complex bass and drums patterns involved. One can notice the talent of the guys on excellent piano parts. The lead singer has a friendly voice, the loud bass sounds like PFM, and it is very complex, so you should not be disappointed. The drums are very sophisticated, never the same. I Shall not forget the presence of excellent electric and acoustic guitars, making the sound like Gentle Giant, especially on the majestic & epic "metamorphosis". Always very structured, the tracks have no room for simplicity neither accessibility. Only real proggers will truly appreciate. The ensemble is usually nervous, dynamic, and surprisingly there are some outstanding floating passages through the dynamic patterns. What about song "Leave me alone"? Well, this beautiful song is "speed changing acoustic guitar and unbelievable vocals" oriented, and then an intense floating streams of keyboards enter and make, with a perfect moog like solo, a quintessential passage in the progressive rock history! Speaking of quintessence, one should notice couples of ones on the 2 next songs: "Nothing's the same" and "Traccia 2" Nothing's the same is one of the most progressive tracks ever recorded: so many rythm and melody changes, WOW! How impressive! Paradise, Nirvana and genius are in this song! But wait: the last song is one of their best: Traccia 2: an extremely complex and symphonic masterpiece, REALLY reaching the quintessence! Beautiful, grand, complex, only made of pure keyboards and some drums! Notice the perfect passage between the 2 songs: the moog like keyboards slowing down, which give room to a poignant piano part!!! And now, unroll the red carpet: the ultimate song for the King is started: the King feels really touched by this song announcing his arrival: with a tear in his eyes, he proudly announces to his citizens: the war is over, and now let's celebrate the freedom: grape, fish, poultry, beer and wine are going to be served! Banco Del Mutuo Soccorso - Garofano Rosso - EX - (SRWOC + some blotchy marks front and back) / NM - slightest scuffs - Another classic from one of my favourite bands. - $40.00 A review: This album by Banco is rather unusual. Can you imagine Genesis with Peter Gabriel making an all-instrumental album or Supertramp with no vocals ? No ? Well, Banco did just that ! And did they succeed too ! In fact, this is a soundtrack for a film of the same name directed by Luigi Faccini. The music is fantastic, never boring. The use of a variety of instruments makes it really interesting. If all soundtrack music were like this... Get Banco's classic albums first then get this one. You won't regret it. If you don't like Francesco Di Giacomo's voice, then get it all the same ! This is typical Banco at its best. Banco - Di Terra - NM (SRWOC) (ILS) / NM - Another classic - $35.00 A review: Every now and then Banco would give us an all-instrumental album. They did that back in 1976 with Garofano Rosso, which is said to be a film soundtrack. Once again, they did that for ...Di Terra, except this isn't a film soundtrack. 1978 is often thought of as the year of punk and new wave, but it seemed that Banco was still impervious to the changes of the time. Since they always had a strong classical feel to their music, it'll be only a matter of time before they did a rock band with orchestra concept like the Moody Blues' Days of Future Passed, Deep Purple's Concerto for Group and Orchestra, Procol Harum's Live with the Edmunton Symphony Orchestra, and of course several Italian prog albums, amongst them New Troll's Concerto Grosso per 1, Osanna's Milano Calibro 9 and RDM's Contaminazione. It's only natural they upped the classical influences. Vocalist Francesco di Giacomo obviously sat this one out, and if you never been too fond of his singing (he certainly is an acquired taste), you won't have to deal with that here, as ...Di Terra is a purely instrumental album. The duo keyboards of the Nocenzi brothers (Vittorio and Gianni) are still quite recognizable. The music is often accompanied by an orchestra which can give it a dramatic feel. Some of the music tended to be on the experimental side, while others flirt with jazz. What's most interesting is some of the passages bear more than a striking resemblance to Mike Oldfield, especially the fuzz lead guitar that's obviously in the Oldfield style, this isn't what you generally hear on a Banco album. It's a nice album to have, unfortunately, from my understanding, their following albums followed a more mainstream and commercial direction (too typical of prog bands at the end of the '70s and though the '80s). Shadowfax - Watercourse Way - NM (SRWOC) / M - Stunning album before they went all new agey (which wasn't a bad thing). Incredible cover and beautifully crafted album by some seriously talented musicians. $35.00 A review: This record contains a VERY unusual, varied & complex music: it is hard rock, progressive, jazz and fusion. The influences are MULTIPLE: the numerous hard rock electric guitar solos remind me a bit the Steve Hillage's and John Goodsall's solos. The omnipresent piano is ALWAYS excellent: it sometimes sounds a bit like the Robin Lumley's piano of the 70's (Brand X). There are many excellent sax, flute, clarinet, acoustic guitars and sitar parts, often played during the mellower bits. The keyboards mostly consist in piano, moog and harpsichord. The best thing would be to describe each track one by one: "The shape of a word" has some flanged electric guitar notes and piano a la Brand X of the 70's, and the guitar solos are very Steve Hillage influenced. "Linear dance" sounds a bit like the Steve Hillage's music of the seventies, as reveal the TONS of wah-wah guitars and the lead vocals sounding alike. "Petite aubade" starts with a dark mix of saxes and mellotron a la King Crimson; it leads to a celestial, graceful, melodic and delicate combination of flutes, piano and acoustic guitars, reminding Harmonium, Jean Pierre Rampal, PFM and Anthony Phillips; in the last part, the piano is replaced by harpsichord, and it really sounds medieval, like the early Gryphon and Gentle Giant. The slightly dissonant and very complex "Book of Hours" sounds a bit like PFM of the 70's; the second part becomes quite mellow, full of delightful saxes, exotic sitar and piano; it ends with another quite loaded and complex bit. The jaw-dropping "Watercourse Way" track has a flamboyant mix of clarinet, extremely bottom acoustic contrabass, acoustic guitars, catchy piano a la John Tout (Renaissance) and percussions of the Flower Power era; there is a bit where multiple piano tracks accompany beautiful flute notes. I have rarely seen such a surprising and unexpected end like on this track: the abrupt rhythm and air change is majestically & faultlessly accomplished! The last track, "Song for My Brother", has some floating mellotron parts; on the second part, the crystal clear melodic & catchy echoed piano is as fluid as the falling water on the album art cover; it is gradually embellished and amplified by floating mellotron and a horn-like instrument; it ends with an expressive electric guitar solo. Steamhammer - Mountains - NM / NM - An original 1970 copy of this sold for A$250 recently however this is a reissue from 1974 and is still quite rare - Excellent hard rock / prog bluesy mayhem. $25.00 3 reviews: A very strong and consistent album. Solid songwriting throughout and very well produced. The music is I think close to the guitar-playing style of Peter Green's last recordings with Fleetwood Mac. Reminds me also of John Mayall's "Blues from Laurel Canyon" but much darker, and somewhat close to what The Groundhogs were doing around the same time but more fluid. It has a heavy, druggy vibe and dwells in the lower frequencies. A beautiful album - highly recommended! ************************************ ...being another early-70's hard blues band that edge onto prog territory. Steamhammer in particular on this album had a brilliant sense of light and shade, managing to balance the jagged riffs of hard rock with the slow lumbering soundscapes of something altogether more melodic with great skill. Another sadly forgotten band that deserve more investigation by a great many. ************************************ The third album by the British blues rock group Steamhammer. Mountains was released in the fall of 1970 and the band follows the same kind of style they performed on their first two studio albums. Their debut album and their second one MK II are both really strong releases and the same thing continues with Mountains. Two out of these eight tracks are live performances. The longest jam "Riding on the L & N" and the following "Hold That Train" were recorded live at the Lyceum and both of those are fantastic. Especially "Riding on the L & N" is just great. Other standout examples include the opener "I Wouldn't Have Thought", "Henry Lane" and the title track "Mountains". Rest of the songs ain't any weaker still and the whole album is a very balanced totality. Steamhammer's first two album covers aren't my favourites at all. Especially the cover art of MK II just blows. But with Mountains they had a cool album cover for the first time which is also a nice plus here. I don't see any reason why you shouldn't give a try to this record if you're a blues rock fan. Really worth giving a shot. (features Patrick Moraz on keys who joined Yes & Moody Blues after serving time with Mainhorse) - recommended $17.50 A review: Short-lived yet legendary trio, formed in 1973 in London by ex-The Nice bassist Lee Jackson and drummer Brian Davison and ex-Mainhorse keyboardist Patrick Moraz. They recorded one self-titled album (1974, Charisma), based on compositions by Moraz and lyrics by Jackson. It consists of two grand symphonic suites and three shorter pieces, all of them have an evident Classical aura with Moraz making something like a keyboard seminar on various analog keyboards and pianos. As he had a versatile background, the music contains also Fusion hints as well some light Electronic touches and reminds me of early Schicke, Führs & Fröhling with more emphasis on symphonic structures. No question, the long epics are prime examples of developing Symphonic Rock with great segment changes, non-stuck in the previous Emerson, Lake & Palmer school of Classical-drenched Rock. Superb Mellotron and organ, jazzy electric piano and big piano variations all the way through in a generally epic atmosphere. Tensions between members along with Yes' proposal to Moraz, when looking for Rick Wakeman replacement, led to the disbanding of Refugee, despite a rumored attempt by Jackson and Davison to bring Graham Bond onboard. Close to a mid-70's Prog classic. Home - The Alchemist - GFC - Ultra rare original UK import from 1973 on the orange CBS label. NM (a few light splodgy marks front and back - inside is mint / M - $35.00 3 reviews: Another and unfortunately last gem from this awesome band : "proggier" than the previous two efforts more American west-coast rock oriented. this one looks more demanding too, but when one comes into it, what a wonder with its real hooks, its (never heard elsewhere...) guitar arrangements. So, Albion's best kept secret? They to say the least produced three great LP's each of them with its peculiar merits... One of the few concept albums that really worked. For me an absolutely classic LP. Home's third and final album was probably doomed to fail anyway shortly after its release. Wishbone Ash's Andy Powell had been watching Home guitarist Laurie Wisefield from the side of the stage, when Home opened for Wishbone Ash on tour. When Ash guitarist Ted Turner announced he was leaving, Powell went straight to Wisefield and offered him the position in Wishbone Ash, where he stayed for the next 11+ years. As for the album? Unlike its two predecessors, The Alchemist is a concept album. The playing is tight and cohesive, with a more progressive feel that they didn't display on their earlier albums. Everything flows together, so it's very hard to listen to the album any way except from beginning to end. Wishbone Ash fans will recognize Laurie's excellent and unique finger picking style right away. Anyone who had heard this before Wishbone Ash's "There's The Rub" (Wisefield's first with the band) would not have been surprised at the direction the band took on that album. Laurie's huge musical impact on Wishbone Ash is evidenced by one listen to this one. A great album, but whether it's essential would be up to the individual listener. Trivia: Home bassist Cliff Williams eventually wound up playing for AC/DC, where he remains today. Not many of these around. - $18.00 A review: If you wouldn't mind Alquin's pop tendencies - they really were quite good at it - and you'd be interested in hearing a decent (if not particularly thorough) representation of Alquin's prog tendencies, then I would recommend this "live" LP as a great introduction to the band's music. It represents the band at their most accessible, performing their most well-known pieces and songs, probably playing "the label game" with Polydor. If you were only gonna own one Alquin rekkid, this would be appropriate; it's great for casual fans. If you think you'd prefer the more esoteric mid-level instrumental rock side of the band, then stick with Marks and Mountain Queen. Lol Creme / Kevin Godley (10cc) - Consequences - 3LP Boxed Set - EX+ Box has some minor wear due to age and includes the original booklet which is in almost mint condition / Albums look mint. This is an intriguing and unique collaboration between these 2 10cc maestros that infuse an insane amount of variety into what is one of the most challenging but rewarding listens to ever grace the prog hall of fame. Originals of this on the Mercury label go for over A$500.00 but this one is only $50.00. A few thoughts: The more I listen to this, the more I love it. The instrumental tracks are full of intriguing sounds and patterns (I especially love 'The Flood'), the pop songs are lovely, and the absurd dialogue -- if I may be forgiven for this comparison -- sounds like something out of a Monty Python sketch (which is a good thing as far as I'm concerned). I don't feel irritated by the lack of progression in the plot because there isn't one, or at least its presence is very much beside the point. Things become somewhat less interesting towards the end (movements 1-17 notwithstanding), which is what keeps me from giving this album 5 stars. SOLD - Marillion - Passport - NM / M - 2LP B/L - Rare live set from 1984 - Made in Belgium - Excellent sound - $45.00 (WONDERING) Flairck - Variations On A Lady - (NAC) - NM (SRWOC / M - Obscure German import on Polydor label from 1979 - Progressive folk-rock - Hard to find this anywhere. - $15.00 A review: Acoustic ensemble from Ulvenhout, Holland, performing around guitarist Erik Visser. The first rehearsals of the band took part in 1976 with Peter Weekers on wind instruments, Erik's brother Hans Visser on bass and female violin player Judy Schomper. Two years of preparation followed before the band signs a deal with Polydor and releases the debut ''Variaties op een Dame'' in 1978. Flairck were like no other band regarding Holland, they were a band with an all acoustic but very rich sound, somewhat divided between Classical Chamber Music and Folk. The first side of the original LP contains rather laid-back musicianship with many folk references, the guitar playing of Erik Visser remains in the background with no particular surprises and the majority of the instrumental arrangements is led by the talent of Weekers and its dominant work on flutes, pipes and whistles. On ''Oneven wals'' though things become more serious. Plenty of great interplays and beautiful harmonies on an up tempo acoustic piece full of lovely sound-scapes and balanced work on bass, flutes, violins and acoustic guitars, sounds a delicate piece stepping both into symphonic and folk territories. Of course the album is mostly known for its almost sidelong eponymous suite, clocking at 21 min. long, and offering all the basic tunes met in the first side. From melancholic passages with crying violins and depressive flutes to energetic Chamber Music with Classical references and some nice, fiery battles between the musicians. A great track, however the middle-based violin solo prevents from being rather great. The album received some high praise back in the days, winning several awards as a very innovative release. And actually it is, with its deep energy hidden behind the acoustic instrumentation making it almost a must-have for fans of challenging acoustic experiences. But even a more rock-friendly prog fan will met some desired interplays in here. Recommended. SOLD - Hydravion - Hydravion - NM / M - mega rare original French copy on the Sonet label - an excellent example of what progressive electronic is all about. Don't miss this as you'll likely never see another one as it was quickly deleted and never officially released on CD (apart from a poor copy taken from a vinyl source) - $24.00 (AKIRA) Wavemaker - Where Are We Captain?... - M (SRWOC) / M - rare Australian copy on the Polydor label from 1975. No wonder you never saw this back in the day as it was never promoted. $24.00 3 reviews: Quite an excellent and unique take on electronic music from this somewhat obscure British duo. Brian Hodgson is far less well-known for this than for his work at the BBC Radiophonic Workshop (he’s probably most famous for devising the devilish Dalek voices for TV’s Doctor Who). The two Wavemaker lads perform on the mammoth Electrophon synthesizer (essentially an EMS Synthi 100 with a bunch of custom modules hooked into it) and invited a couple of guests to sit in on drums and “timpanii” (their spelling). The result is one of the most rockin’ synth-only records I’ve ever heard. The first time I heard the raucous fuzz-tone at the start of “Double Helix,” I had to pick my jaw up off the floor. Why didn’t someone TELL me a synth could do that? The A-side is a near-classic, with some unbelievably up-front synth-prog closing with the breathtaking “Syren’s Song.” The B-side is more low-key and contemplative, but no less high-quality. For fans of electronic music that are looking for something a bit different. ******************* I am always in the search for unknown prog rock and electronic albums, titles, that for some reason or another never saw the light of day as a CD reissue, or where finding any info online about them is next to impossible, usually just linking to record dealers selling titles by such artists, or a very undescriptive description on the Gibraltar Encyclopedia of Progressive Rock. This British electronic duo consisting of Brian Hodgson and John Lewis is one of them. Apparently they only released two albums, with Where Are We Captain, released on Polydor being their first. As I've been familiar with the inferior New Atlantis for far longer than this album, I have to say that Where Are We Captain is quite a bit better. There seems to be less of a classical feel, with stronger compositions, without the boring passages that plagues New Atlantis. Less cheesy as well, but be aware: this album is a product of the 1970s, so expect a lot of sounds that no one uses these days. I really love the opening cut, "Lodestar" with all those sounds that the duo made off their VCS-3 synths. "Wavemaker" (the song, that is) is more experimental than the rest of the album, relying more on synth wind sounds. "Enter the Eldil" seems to be a bit more somber than the rest. Still, a good electronic album, but unfortunately you need a turntable for (because it never was reissued on CD). ************************** Wavemaker are an instrumental group made up of two keyboard players dedicated to synthesizers, with guests on percussion and tympani. This is definitely not a Berlin School sequencer fest ala Tangerine Dream, nor a rock based drum-fueled electronic album along the lines of Klaus Schulze's "Moondawn" or Wolfgang Bock's "Cycles". It is, in fact, a progressive rock instrumental album - but all played on big... fat... analog... synthesizers. Works for me. Some truly wonderful sound textures are created by these massive beasts of wires. And the music is most certainly composed, with care given to both melody and complexity. It's nice to find a good album amongst the more common stock every once awhile. Like Guns and Butter in that way (referencing availability not musical style). (AKIRA) Brian Davison - Brian Davison's Every Which Way - NM (SRWOC / M - A mega rare original copy from 1970 on the Philips label. - $35.00 A review: I was pawing through some records at a yard sale and stumbled across this Brian Davison release. I actually recognized Davison's name from his days drumming with The Nice and initially put the album down thinking it was going to be an something even more pretentious than your normal set of Nice progressive moves. Anyhow, I remember having read that Davison had recently passed on (this was back in 2008)', so I went ahead and bought the album, dumping it in my to-listen-too pile where it sat for the next four years. As mentioned, I figured this album was going to be a continuation of Davison's Nice-styled progressive moves. Boy was I ever wrong. So technically this collection isn't even a Davison solo effort, rather reflects a post-Nice project with former Skip Bifferty singer/keyboardist Graham Bell, bassist Alan Cartwright, lead guitarist John Hedley, and multi-instrumentalist Geoff Peach. Collectively known as Every Which Way (which I've always thought was a great name for a band), the group were among the first to be signed to Nice manager Tony Stratton-Smith's newly formed Charisma label, though the album saw an American release on Mercury (with a far inferior cover). They made their debut in 1970 with the release of the 45: - 1970's 'Go Placidly' b/w 'he Light' (Charisma catalog number BD-1) While Davison was credited with producing, "Every Which Way", Graham Bell came off as he band's prime creative force. Not only did he handle all of the lead vocals and keyboards, but he was responsible for writing most of the album's six songs. In contrast, whereas Davison's adventuresome drums had always been featured in The Nice's catalog, this time out he was left with a much more traditional supporting role, providing a rock solid foundation along with bassist Cartwright To be perfectly honest, musically the album wasn't the most original thing you've ever heard. Offering up a hybrid mixture of English folk, jazz, and progressive moves, tracks like 'Castle Sand' and 'Go Placidly' bore more than a passing resemblance to ealy-1970s Steve Winwood and Traffic. As a big Traffic fan that comparison actually sat well with me, but others might not be as impressed. To my ears Bell had a great voice. Rugged, raw, and powerful, technically I'd argue his voice was actually more dynamic than Winwood's. Regardless, the comparisons were unmistakable and if that wasn't enough, Geoffrey Peach's reed work was highly reminiscent of Chris Wood's work. That aside, the band's secret weapon was found in guitarist John Hedley. Unlike so many guitarists, Hedley didn't seem to live for the chance to solo, rather played with considerable restraint and continual taste. Yeah, exemplified by material like 'The Light' he could bust an extended solo with the best of them, but it wasn't an in-your-face case of exhibitionism. Hard to believe that Hedley didn't garner more attention ... - Opening up with some tasty John Hedley guitar and a nice Alan Cartwright bass line, 'Bed Ain't What It Use To Be' opened the album was a bluesy, mid-tempo rocker that's always reminded me of a really good Ritchie Havens song. Hedley's jazzy-inflected solo was simply wonderful with Bell turning in a fantastic, soul ravishing vocal. Even Geoffrey Peach's sax solo sounded impressive in these surroundings. You'd be hard pressed to find another nine minute + song that rolls by so fast. rating: **** stars - Showcasing Peach's pretty reed work, 'Castle Sand' had one of those jazz-meets-progressive melodies coupled with a folk tale lyric that gave it an overall sound recalling early-1970s Steve Winwood and Traffic. This was also the one track that highlighted Davison's percussion. rating: **** stars - Previously released as a single 'Go Placidly' was probably the album's most commercial number. A pretty, folk-tinged ballad, Bell's vocals sure recalled Steve Winwood, while Peach's flute solo would have made Chris Wood proud. Anyone who enjoyed early Traffic was going to love this one. rating: **** stars - Built on an instantly catchy hook, showcasing some of Hedley and Peach's finest moments, 'All In Time' sported the album's most mainstream melody. It would have made a dandy single with a bit of judicious editing (since the LP track clocked in at almost 9 minutes). rating: **** stars - The album's lone misstep, 'What You Like' found the band taking a stab at Soft Machine-styled progressive moves. Fairly discordant and skitterish with an extended Hedley-Peach guitar and sax solo segment,, this was the one selection you could skip without missing anything. rating: ** stars . The album's toughest rocker, 'The Light' featured another nice Hedley and Peach solo segment, but this time around surrounded it with a blazing, blues-rock melody. rating: **** stars Had this been a Traffic album, critics and the buying public would have embraced the results. Instead the set was greeted with complete indifference and the band quickly called it quits. - Bell went on the form Bell & Arc. - Cartwright became a member of Procol Harum. - Davidson rejoined formed Nice alumnus Lee Jackson in Jackson Heights, followed by a stint in Refugee. Personal and health issues left him sidelined throughout the late 1970s and early 1980s and he subsequently turned his attention to academia, though in 2002 he rejoined Keith Emerson and Jackson for a reunion of The Nice. The reunited band toured the UK and even released a live album. Sadly, only 65, Davison died of a brain tumor in 2008. - Hedley's remained active in the music business playing in a number of bands, most which never recorded. One of the exceptions was Last Exit. He's also continued to work as a sessions player and as a touring musician - he's apparently a regular on cruise ships. - Peach went on to play in a number of bands including Lake and Mott the Hoople. I am really struck by the band's musicianship throughout. John Hiseman just blisters the skins, Dave Greenslade provides outstanding Hammond work, Dick Heckstall-Smith blows a dominating, soulful sax with a wonderful tone, and James Litherland plays some sweet guitar with some interesting soloing. We are introduced to Colosseum with the swinging blues track, "Walking in the Park". The excellent "Plenty Hard Luck" follows, a more complex, proggy jazz number. Other highlights are "Backwater Blues", a slow blues tune with Heckstall-Smith giving the sax a real workout, and "Beware the Ides of March", sounding somewhat like an instrumental reworking of Procol Harum's "Whiter Shade of Pale". Those About to Die Salute You is an outstanding debut by the band, and one of the best jazz-rock albums of its time. Just a few light scuffs with some minimal noise on only the quietest passages. This is such a great album full of keyboard mayhem from Graham Field and accompanied by some great work by his collaborators . - An original pink label Charisma release that is very hard to find. $85.00 A review: After the debut album Rare Bird's future looked brighter than ever. The single ''Sympathy'' became a major hit, it sold 500,000 copies in France along and over a million worldwide. The band rehearsed new material for a second album on Charisma, which was released in 1970 with the title ''As your mind flies by''. With this work Rare Bird reached their progressive pinnacle and the major reason why was the presence of the massive epic ''Flight'' on the flipside. The opening one contains four shorter tunes of organ-based British Proto Prog mixed with Psychedelic in a typical period offering, based on harsh vocals, huge organ waves and lighter deliveries on piano and harpsichord with a bit of ATOMIC ROOSTER punchy grooves and discreet Classical influences in some instrumental parts. They had captured the essence of the emerging Prog Rock movement, sounding a bit melodramatic and theatrical at moments. but the roots of the pieces are still on British organ-smashed Psychedelic Rock, lacking guitars, but delivering very powerful musicianship with the two keyboardists. ''Flight'' is another story, this one sounds somewhere between QUATERMASS and THE NICE/E.L.P., featuring more than evident Classical orientations. Best comparison would be actually BEGGARS OPERA's first album, here the music is more melodic and certainly quite pompous with marching organ lines and multi-vocal parts and choirs. Atmospherically speaking the band took a huge step forward from the standard vibes of organ-driven Rock music, this opus contains great dramatic passages, some very dark instrumental segments and then going for more melodious/sentimental moments, the guys made a great job on tighten these links and ''Flight'' should be considered as a great attempt on early-70's Prog Rock excess. Unfortunately the band didn't remain in the waters, especially after Graham Field left to form Fields. Three more albums with changing members followed, ''Epic forest'' showed the addition of funky rhythms within the Proto Prog content, while ''Somebody's watching'' (1973) and ''Born again'' (1974) had nothing to do with the old Rare Bird sound. Nic Potter of Van der Graaf Generator played both in ''Epic forest'' and ''Somebody's watching''. The greatest work of Rare Bird, basically because of ''Flight'', a haunting example of keyboard-driven British Prog from the early-70's.Cool attempt on lyrical Psych/Proto-Symphonic Rock with some great keyboard parts. Strongly recommended.

He grew up in Morton Grove, an upper middle class white area of Chicago, and moved to the city upon graduating High School. After interests in graphics and visual art studying at The Art Institute of Chicago & with ambitions of being Dancer, Puppeteer, Painter, Sculptor, Writer, & Poet. He began Alto Sax at age 11, switching to Tenor Sax when entering High School. He spent years of extensive private lessons in Piano, Conducting, Harmony & Theory, Composition, Arranging, Clarinet, Flute, & Classical & Jazz Saxophone that continued through all his years in Chicago. He also attended Interlochen's National Music Camp immersed in the study of Classical Music & "Legitimate Classical" Saxophone etc. He turned down an offer of a four scholarship there to return to "study" in the jazz clubs etc. of Chicago. Immediately upon graduating from High School, noted jazz producer, Esmond Edwards, signed Klemmer to Cadet/Chess Records for five plus albums, his first 2 recordings being "straight ahead jazz", and then, abruptly & surprisingly if not confusing to many, of which would eventually become a trademark of his career, changed musical directions, recording the innovative hit album of the first, slightly preceding the release of Miles Davis "******* Brew", of the "jazz/rock fusion" genre, "Blowin Gold", co-produced by ex Rolling Stones Records producer, Marshall Chess, for the new Cadet Concept label on Chess Records. Here John introduced his use with electronics, primarily the "delay effect", which would become his life long "trademark sound", as well as, uses of the "wah wah" pedal & "ring modulator" etc. never before used on sax at that time as well as "vocal effects". At Chess Records he had access & exposure to recording sessions & relationships with Artists & their sidemen such as, Muddy Waters, Donny Hathaway, Minnie Riperton, Ramsey Lewis, Maurice White & many others expanding his knowledge of R&B, Blues & Pop music. Klemmer led his own groups in Chicago & touring using the greatest of Chicago sideman. He did his first PBS special for WTTTV Chicago. When not primarily performing with his own groups he was busy as a sideman exploring every genre of Music with Big Bands, Blues Bands, Dixieland Groups, Jazz Groups, the Avant Garde & Experimental, Classical & Church Music, R&B, Pop & Rock groups such as with musician friend James Guercio who was to move to L.A., preceding Klemmer, to Produce & Manage Rock groups Blood, Sweat & Tears & Chicago. Upon moving to Los Angeles, continuing leading & touring with his own group & still recording for Cadet/Chess Records, he took a brief break recording, arranging & toured as key soloist & arranger with The Don Ellis innovative big band for 2 months & then toured Africa, as a key soloist, for half a summer, with Oliver Nelson for the State Dept. All while also working with such diverse L.A. based Artists as Tim Buckley & Steely Dan etc. & being opening act for diverse Artists such as Janis Joplin & Miles Davis. He studied Film Composing with Albert Harris & vocal lessons with Seth Riggs. He still primarily focused on performing with his own groups & recording for the Chess/CadetConcept label continuing his experimentation's & innovations in the "jazz rock genre" including being one of the first Artists to use various Production Techniques such as Ambient Sound Effects of "children playing" & "oceans & forests" etc. SFX, and also with new combinations of instrumentation & new over dubbing concepts. He performed as quest soloist at the Newport, Monterey Antibes & Montreux Jazz Festivals as well as Carnegie Hall & Tanglewood etc. while also being an occasional quest soloist on recordings with Artists of a variety of musical genres such as, Steely Dan, Nancy Wilson, John Lee Hooker, Roy Haynes, Dan Siegal, Tom Snow, Gloria Lynn, Lauren Wood, Ray Manzerek & Osamu etc also being featured quest soloist for Movies such as Lipstick etc. The success of the "Blowin Gold" series of recordings were constantly breaking new musical ground & broadening & increasing critical interest & acclaim & steadily garnering a larger & more diverse jazz, rock, r&b & even country music etc. fan base. * John Klemmer - Mosaic - The Best of - 2LP - GFC - rare NZ copy - Disc 1 - M / Disc 2 - NM- $16.00 SOLD * John Klemmer - Waterfalls - Mega rare 1972 copy on Impulse label - stunning cover! He was born in Tampa, Florida and grew up in Kirkwood, Missouri. Sanborn has been a highly regarded session player since the mid 1970s. One of his first professional gigs was as a member of Paul Butterfield's band. One of Sanborn's earliest guest recordings was on David Bowie's Young Americans. Around this time his output as a session player became prolific and over the next ten years he played with a dazzling array of artists, such as Paul Simon, James Taylor (contributing to the remake of the Marvin Gaye classic "How Sweet It Is"), The Rolling Stones, The Eagles and Stevie Wonder. In the late 1980s he was a regular guest member of Paul Shaffer's band on Late Night with David Letterman. From 1988-89, he co-hosted a late-night TV music show on NBC with Jools Holland. The show, "Night Music", following producer Hal Willner's eclectic approach, drew Sanborn together with many famed musicians, such as Miles Davis, Lou Reed, Santana, Curtis Mayfield, and many others. Throughout his career, Sanborn has skirted the edges of free jazz: In his youth he studied with Roscoe Mitchell and Julius Hemphill, and performed on Tim Berne's Diminutive Mysteries, dedicated to Hemphill. His 1991 album Another Hand, produced by Hal Willner, features Charlie Haden, Jack DeJohnette, Bill Frisell, Marc Ribot, and various other players not usually associated with smooth jazz. In television, Sanborn is well-known for his sax solo in the theme song for the NBC hit drama L.A. Law. He has also dabbled in writing for film, contributing to such scores as Lethal Weapon and Scrooged. In 2004, David Sanborn was inducted into the St. Louis Walk of Fame. * David Sanborn band – Promise Me the Moon – great sax - NM / M - $10.00 Michal Urbaniak Violinist, saxophonist, bandleader, composer, arranger and multi-instrumentalist, born 22 January 1943 in Warsaw, Poland. Very reluctant to let this go - Incredible copy in pristine condition - only one I've ever seen - Rare - $30.00 A review: Fantastic sci-fi fusion from drum-god Lenny White. Lets break it down--Lenny delivers, plain and simple. Inspired by the advent of blockbuster sci-fi classics like Star Wars and The Cat From Outer Space, "Pirates" is an instrumental concept album based on an apocalyptic tale of mutants and cosmic tumult penned by Lenny White and some obscure author. Several of the cuts have an oriental feel to them and are unlike anything I've ever heard in jazz-rock fusion. All of the tracks feature Lenny's unworldly percussion (as usual) , killer guitar, and enough synths to keep any prog rock fan riveted the whole way through. The cover art is also remarkable and complements the album to the tee. Why this man's solo material is so overlooked is completely beyond me. * Lenny White - Best of Friends - Import - M / NM - $12.00 * Lenny White - Streamline - Import - M / M - $12.00 Some thoughts: Goes well with a comic and a dutch. There are handfuls of classics from the jazz-funk-R&B world in the 70's and 80's that are definitely lost classics and many with huge commercial potential that never came close to getting it. Narada Michael Walden's 1982 date 'Confidence' is among them. It did okay on the R&B side of things but is barely acknowledged in the pop world-his pop productions during this time for Stacy Lattisaw and later Whitney Houston and Aretha Franklin are. This album begins with the hefty funk jam "Your #1"-one of the best slices of funk Narada ever threw down!"Summer Lady" has yet more of that heavy 80's funk throb to it before again returning to the breezy and inspiring urban soul sound of "I'm Ready". The title track goes to the same place with great verve and style! The presence of jazz and fusion icons Randy Brecker, David Sanborn and the immortal Wayne Shorter really showcase Narada as the successor to Norman Connors; drummer and great assembler of talent. Another truely impressive track to be found here is the closer "Blue Side Of Midnight", a moody romantic smooth groove with some creamy sax from Sanborn and a great other-worldly guitar solo from Corrado Rustici! 'Confidence' is absolutely no misnomer; Narada delivers everything here with sincerity, conviction and so many hard-driving grooves to make you bug! SOLD * John McLaughlin – Devotion – Douglas 4 - SRWOC / Mint- Hard to find - $12.50 (CADDISGEEK) *** Alan Stivell - Raok Dilestra - Elusive French import GF- M / M - $15.000 *** A review: Raok Dilestra aka Before Landing is by far the finest album I ever heard from Alan Stivell. This is one of his more rock-oriented album, where he records a concept album about Brittany, the Breton people, and the dislike of the French imposing their culture on the Bretons. I was rather surprised to find out Dave Swarbrick (Fairport Convention) and Richard Harvey (Gryphon) make an appearance here! Not to mention Dan ar Bras as well as a bunch of unfamiliar (to me) names (Stivell always had a revolving door of musicians help him). "Ar Gelted kozh" starts off in a rather mournful tone, with bagpipes, and this piece really doesn't prepare for a good portion of this album, which tends to rock out, with only a couple of mellow tunes. "Ar Vritoned 'ba' Inis-Breizh" shows a more world-music influence, with percussion and vocals. All the songs are sung in Breton, but all the spoken dialog is in French. There's also a cut with Richard Harvey on krummhorn, and it reminds me a whole lot of early Gryphon (no surprise, thanks to Harvey's involvement), but vocals in Breton. "La Traité d'Union franco-breton" seems to have a jazz-rock fusion feel, especially the electric piano, but with Stivell's singing, in Breton. "Gwriziad difennet" is a rather rock-oriented number with some great fiddle playing. "Marw ewid e fobi" harkens back to Renaissance of the Celtic Harp, a rather mellow piece dominated by Stivell's Celtic harp, with fiddles in the background. "Naw Breton 'ba' prizon" has a rather urgent feel, while "Plinn-slogan" demands Brittany to be free, with the constant chanting that goes: "Free Brittany" (in English, so I can't dispute what's being said here, given my knowledge of French is very limited, and Breton, well, not at all). I really think this is his best album, the reason: many of his albums might contain one or two unbearably cheesy tunes you wanna hit fast-forward, but not here! It's great stuff, and one of the finest Celtic folk-rock albums ever! *** Alan Stivell - Legende - elusive French import - NM / NM - $13.50 *** *** Alan Stivell - Reflections - rare Aust copy on Philips label - VG+ / VG - few marks - $8.00 A review: While Stivell is more known for his fusing of traditional/folk music with heavy rock leanings throughout the seventies his earlier albums including the excellent and formative Reflets (or Reflections in English) is an album devoted to the his love of the Breton harp in its most organic fundamental form. The songs are mostly old traditional pieces but the instrument is one which is rarely heard and Stivell in his virtuoso like style brings a fresh impetus and meaning to the music in his idiosyncratic style which brings these old almost forgotten songs to a new generation during the late sixties and early seventies. His unique vocal is always distinguishable and towers above the generic form of the more accessible traditional performer with a definite approach and thought to progression in the music that always hints at a rock angle in the most formative sense. Listening to the electric guitar based songs From Celtic Roots (from 1974) and the similarities in arrangement ebbs through on Reflets however sparse but the roots of the merger he would undertake on future albums is still evident here as Stivel breezes through older songs with new arrangements including "Suite Des Montages" the Celtic/Gaelic tinged muse of "Suite Irlandaise" as well as the old Cyril Tawney folk song "Sally Free And Easy" and "Broceliade". The album is calm and hypnotic and clearly Stivell had a penchant for the myths and legends of the Celts, then_Reflets_ as a title makes sense as Stivell looks back through the music. Mystical and almost stoned like in presence Reflets is an album for those with an open mind wanting to hear and explore something different. It would be a good base to start for those wanting to explore the eclectic world of Alan Stivell and his music. *** Alan Stivell - A Day At Home (Journee A La Maison) NM / NM - $12.50 A review: Alan Stivell gave us another winner with this 1978 album, Journée à la Maison. Hard to believe that someone who started recording since the early '70s would still be going strong in '78. This guy seemed to have acted like punk rock and disco (which both were at their peak at that time) never happened, as this album could have sounded like at times it was recorded in the late '60s or early '70s. I have never been all that big on Celtic music, but Alan Stivell created some of the finest in Celtic music, to the point where it even convinces me! The Celtic influence is there, as usual, where you hear plenty of that Breton harp, whistles, bombarde (Breton double-reed instrument), Scottish Highland bagpipes, flute, plus electric instruments, and vocals. There's even a strong '60s psychedelic influence in one of the pieces complete with droning sitar. It must've taken balls the size of an elephant for anyone to pull something like that off in 1978, but Stivell did! There are some piece that emphasize Stivell's harp, and unsurprisingly, those pieces wouldn't be out of place on Renaissance of the Celtic Harp. There's this one vocal number that ends up sounding like a Celtic version of Crobsy, Stills & Nash. Overall, the album has more of an acoustic feel. *** Alan Stivell - Renaissance of The Celtic Harp - NM (RWOC) / M - Another Stivell album that comes highly recommended! $15.00 A review: Breton Harpist Alan Stivell, is celebrated as a ‘master’ in the Celtic and ‘World Music’ community and his contributions to the revival of not just Harp playing but of the Breton traditions is without measure. On ‘Renaissance de la Harpe Celtique’ (Stivells most renowned work) we are presented with an unmatched artistry and dexterity. An exhibition of the depth and beauty of the Harp as an expressive instrument. As an entirely instrumental album, with very little accompaniment from other instruments, apart from the occasional bass and drum drop in that seems an odd choice half way through the album, the sounds of the harp are enough to keep us engaged and impressed, all the while, allowing the listener to be swept away on a cloud of airy folk-ness. A critic once wrote on the album…. “People who hear this record are never the same again. Renaissance of the Celtic Harp, one of the most beautiful and haunting records ever made by anybody, introduced the Celtic harp to many thousands of listeners around the world. To call this music gorgeous and ravishing would be the height of understatement—indeed, there aren’t words in the English language to describe this record adequately. The opening work, Ys, is a piece inspired by the legend of the 5th century capital of the kingdom of Cornwall, [most versions of the legend place the city in the Douarnenez Bay on the coast of Brittany] which was engulfed by a flood as punishment for its sins. (Debussy wrote one of his finest works, “The Engulfed Cathedral,” later adapted by the group Renaissance into “The Harbor” on Ashes Are Burning, based on the same legend). The reflective “Marv Pontkellec” is every bit as sublimely beautiful, but the highlight of this record is “Gaeltacht,” a 19 minute musical journey by Stivell’s harp across the Gaelic lands of Ireland, Scotland, and the Isle of Man”. A delicate and pretty album of masterful playing and one I highly recommend for lovers of ambient, world or Celtic music. * Ormandy / Bernstein - 2001 - A Space Odyssey - EX - SRWOC - small label mark - M - $7.00 Patrick Moraz - Patrick Moraz (born June 24, 1948 in Morges, Switzerland) is a progressive rock keyboard player. He was classically trained at the Conservatory of Lausanne, but played jazz primarily before entering progressive rock and has been highly acclaimed for his virtuosity. He first toured as a solo performer opening for major jazz artists throughout Europe in the mid 1960s. He first toured as a solo performer opening for major jazz artists throughout Europe in the mid 1960s. He then formed the group Mainhorse or Mainhorse Airline with Jean Restori in 1968, which released a self-titled album on Polydor. Another leading force of the band was David Kubinec (In 2007 an album with studio recordings the band recorded in Geneva 'The Geneva Tapes' was released on CD under the name David Kubinec's Mainhorse Airline.) He then moved to England and in 1973 formed Refugee with Lee Jackson and Brian Davison. Davison and Jackson had previously teamed with rock keyboardist Keith Emerson (famous for his work in Emerson Lake and Palmer) in the group The Nice. Moraz rose to prominence in 1974 when he replaced Rick Wakeman in Yes, playing on their Relayer album. In 1976 all current members of Yes released solo albums, and the Moraz album, titled The Story Of I, received acclaim from musicians. In the interim Moraz had moved to Brazil, and incorporated Brazilian rhythms and performers on the album, making it an important staple of world music. After Moraz recorded another album, Out In The Sun, which also was well-received, he began touring with the Moody Blues on their Octave tour in 1978, and later played on their 1981 album Long Distance Voyager, which was not their first album to reach #1 on the charts. He remained touring and recording with the Moody Blues until 1991. Even while with the Moody Blues, Moraz toured and recorded extensively. He toured with his group from Brazil, recorded with Chick Corea and two prominent albums of duets with drummer Bill Bruford, another former member of Yes. His solo albums Future Memories I, Future Memories II and Windows Of Time have been critically well received. * Patrick Moraz - Timecode - USA Import - NM / NM - $14.00 * Patrick Moraz - Future Memories - Import - NM / M - $14.00 * Patrick Moraz - Future Memories II - Unopened Import - M / M - $15.00 SOLD * Patrick Moraz - The Story Of I - USA Import - GFC - ILS - debut album NM - minimal wear on bottom / NM - $14.00 (FULL RANGE) A review: Born in 1948 in Morges, Moraz became known as a keyboardist of Refugee and later as a significant part of ''Relayer''-era Yes.But he also played with one of the very first Swiss progressive bands, Mainhorse, before relocating in the UK in early-70's.In 1976, after leaving Yes, he released his debut album ''The story of I'' (Charisma), partly recorded in Geneva and partly in Brazil, where he fused progressive elements with Brazilian Music. Several Brazilian percussionists and singers appear on the album along with more famous musicians, like Bruford's Jeff Berlin and Mainhorse' old band-mate Jean Ristori on bass, John McBurnie from Jackson Heights on lead voices and ex-Weather Report's drummer Alphonse Mouzon. I won't sink into Moraz'es equipment, because every known keyboard is displayed on the album, even an Orchestron! The material here is a blend of Jazz and Classical Music with certain references to percussion-driven acoustics and Brazilian rhythms, based on Moraz's keyboard capabilities, from tricky, complex instrumental pyrotechnics to soft Folk Fusion affairs on keyboards and hand drums and light piano-driven Classical introductions. There is a definite Fusion flavor throughout the album, especially on the synth/guitar parts and the regular drumming, but the stylistic diversity allows the listener to meet with Moraz's unique and wide musical taste. Lots of cinematic interludes and heavy instrumental stuff, only interrupted by occasional vocal pinches. He later played with The Moody Blues, for almost a dozen years, and released a handful of more solo albums, slowly moving away from his proggy roots for a straighter style of a Classical and Jazz background. SOLD * Patrick Moraz - Out In The Sun - ILS - USA Import - NM / M - $14.00 (QWERTYQAZ) A review: My local radio station played "Time for a Change" on its prog. rock programme and convinced me that there was interesting music out there and artists not afraid of long piano solos. I was hooked. The other tracks are not bad neither. A combination of disciplined synth, changing tempo and style (Brazilian but not over done) and simply good tunes that are up-tempo and happy. At the time I found it mind-blowing - making a refreshing change from the formulaic sounds that were around then. It is a pity that Mr Moraz was to copy these in his later albums. If you get a chance to listen to Moraz then this is the LP to try. * Patrick Moraz & Syrinx - Coexistence - UK Import - NM / NM - $14.00 A review: This album is rather pan pipe flute oriented. It has a very Latin style with many percussions. The presence of Syrinx playing the omnipresent pan pipe flute obliges Moraz to be more in the background, creating a well balanced exotic ensemble. The overall sound is very lively and original. I think Moraz works better with other musicians, as it is the case here: notice his amazing contribution in making masterpieces like Yes' "Relayer" or the Refugee's record. SOLD - Crossfire - East of Where NM / M - ISL - $14.00 (Full Range) Eric Gale - He began playing guitar at the age of 12. Although he majored in chemistry at Niagara University, Gale was determined to pursue a musical career, and began contributing to accompaniments for such stars as Maxine Brown, The Drifters, and Jesse Belvin. He soon began to attract the attention of King Curtis and Jimmy Smith, who began recommending him for studio work. He became known first as a session musician in the 1960s, eventually appearing on an estimated 500 albums. Among the many artists he recorded with were Aretha Franklin, Paul Simon, Lena Horne, Quincy Jones, Grover Washington Jr., Herbie Mann, Esther Phillips, Lalo Schifrin, Joe Cocker, Carly Simon, Van Morrison, and Billy Joel. He also had a spell in Aretha Franklin's stage band. *** Eric Gale - Blue Horizon - M / M - unplayed / unopened - $14.00 A review: medium easy-jazz, reggae, pop. 97th Columbus is a 5 star cut, that contains a strong groove funky blues like Stuff period. Part of You is a very disciplined production. The musicians are old buddies - Richard Tee, Harvey Mason, Anthony Jackson, Steve Gadd, Ralph MacDonald. A song like Lookin Good convinces me that Eric Gale was one of the finest guitar players. His sound is so warm and human. He never plays a redundant note. There's not a hint of that self-importance so many guitarists have. Grover Washington, Jr. plays a relaxed solo on his tenor, then Gale and Washington improvise one after another. *** Eric Gale - Ginseng Woman - Import - NM / M - features Grover Washington / Steve Gadd / Bob James / Richard Tee / Ralph McDonald etc plus all the usual family - it's a bit incestuous isn't it? - $12.00 Here's 2 reviews: In demand session man takes a solo bow and the resultant music relates why he's so often hired to work other people's sessions - his playing is warm, likeable and unobtrusive. This is a Crossover-Jazz release, typical for the mid-seventies but also one of the best examples. The songs are pleasant, Bob James' large scope production is well-balanced, only New York's best studio cracks are part of the session and last not least, there's Eric Gale who is one of my favorite guitar players in spite of his not being a guitar legend in the usual sense (which usually means fast and loud and a lot of it). Though he has recorded a couple of straight jazz albums, most of his recordings contain "pop-jazz" which is a type of instrumental pop music. Bob James was an important figure in turning 1970s fusion jazz more commercial. For their album One on One, Earl Klugh and Bob James received a Grammy award for Best Pop Instrumental Performance of 1981. Bob James' recordings have practically defined pop/jazz and crossover during the past few decades. Very influenced by pop and movie music, James has often featured R&B-ish soloists (most notably Grover Washington Jr.), who add a jazz touch to what is essentially an instrumental pop set. He actually started out in music going with a much different direction.. It's all instrumental, with Van der Linden playing nothing but the Yahama GX1, and Lambert playing nothing but the lyricon. A rather good live drummer is added. The music will strongly appeal to fans of Ekseption and Trace. Even though the basic concept is the same, it's a bit more laid-back than either of the above-mentioned bands. A classic example of Zeuhl / Avant Prog / Jazz-Rock / Jazz Fusion - $40.00 A review: Delire was the first release from Yochk'o Seffer's Neffesh Music (music of the soul) project, consisting of him as the composer and the instrumentalist along with a revolving cast of other musicians. On this album he's backed by fellow Zao cohort Jean-My Truong on drums as well as a string quartet led by Michele Margand. All other instruments are played by Yochk'o. What makes it musically unique is the lack of electric bassist. Therefore, this album includes less fusion/jazz-rock tinge, the dominant presence of acoustic piano and strings along with saxophones clearly hints at an avant-garde chamber rock sound reminiscent of Univers Zero, Henry Cow or possibly even late sixties Frank Zappa. Even within Seffer's varied discography this album is sonically unique, but unfortunately it's overlooked in favor of his other recordings, including Ghilgoul. "Heart" combines angular chamber-rock themes, rigid string orchestrations, melodies on sax, strings and Seffer's own unique vocalize. Halfway in the piece switches to a funky drum break backing a tenor sax solo, with interjections from synth and piano. "Jonetsu For Judith" combines lush strings, elaborate harmonies and passionately agitated tenor saxophone improvisations. The ending with a fast tempo driven by strings is orgasmic. "Orkana" combines relentless synthesizers with chamber-rock sound consisting of piano, drums and saxes. Very similar to Henry Cow. Compositionally very elaborate, but a kinetic and driving piece. "Streledzia" is a short, lush piece for electric piano, vocalize, strings and includes more freeform tenor sax outing. As a modern classical piece it sounds unique with its lush, empathic chord clusters, instrumentation and Coltrane-influenced tenor sax. On on the title track Seffer pulls all the stops and creates a fusion of atonal classicism and unstructured free-jazz that at times sounds ominous, at times rigid and at other times shows that Seffer as a pianist had a bit of a Cecil Taylor influence. A more difficult listening than other tracks. "Ima (1ere partie)" is a prelude to the title track on his next album Ima and the combination of sonic sculptures, reeds, synths and voice shows that he could make electronic avant-garde music very well. Delire is a rare and forgotten record that is unjustly overlooked. Nonetheless, it shows Yochk'o Seffer's boundless creativity as a composer, instrumentalist and improviser. This work transcends the usual trappings of jazz-fusion or progressive rock. *** Agori - Live In Montreux - (ILS) NM / NM - Features rare original tree cover still intact from 1975 - This fetches serious money in Europe and would be nigh on impossible to find here. Produced by Claudio Fabi - PFM) - $65.00 A review: An originally short-lived Italian jazz rock band, Agorà were formed in 1974 in Ancona as a quintet featuring bass, guitars, drums, keys and saxes. They had a good live activity and they even performed at the famous Jazz festival of Montreux in Switzerland in 1975.Surprisingly for a new band this short performance was meant to be the band's first official release.Agorà were a pure Jazz Rock band with high skills and great individual performances. It is easy to detect the strong Return to Forever/Weather Report influences, while from the Italian scene their sound is close to that of Perigeo or even Napoli Centrale. The five tracks of the album are great, groovy but very intense Jazz Rock with magnificent melodic saxes and smooth electric piano parts added next to the pounding bass lines, the solid drumming and the nice guitar solos.''Live in Montreux'' can also be very smooth at times with the slow- tempo rhythm section accompanying the crying guitars of Renato Gasparini, the background atmospheric multi-vocalization and the hypnotic sax of Ovidio Urbani.Light and professional interplays are all over the place and will please any fan of the style. *** Tasavalan Presidenti - Lambert Land - GFC NM / M - An almost flawless copy of this exceptional record on the rare Sonet label from 1973. - $70.00 A review: The third album by Tasavallan Presidentti was also their first with the lead singer Eero Raittinen. Frank Robson was the lead singer on their first two albums. Both of those are really good albums but I prefer Lambertland as the ultimate Tasavallan Presidentti album. I still consider Robson as a better singer than Raittinen because Raittinen's English isn't that great. However the instrumental work on Lambertlant is just superb five stars quality. Just like the songwriting too. Any of these six songs could be called as a highlight here but I still choose "The Bargain" and "Dance" as my favourite songs. "Dance" shows Tolonen's skills on the guitar once again. It's easy to understand why the instrumental work of Lambertland got so positive reviews at the time of it's release. Lambertland is often considered as the magnum opus by Tasavallan Presidentti and I have to agree with that. This is five stars jazzy progressive rock record and one of the greatest albums from Finland ever. Their absolute best. George Jinda - The Wheel Of Love - NM / M - Mega rare import copy from 1975 - You just don't see this anywhere. Don't let this gem pass you by as you'll never see another one. $50.00 Hungarian drummer, who is mostly known among Jazz Rock fans through his tenure with Speed Limit. He was born in Budapest in 1941, learned the piano as a child, but switched to drums at the age of 10. In 1966 he moved with his family in New York, where he would spent most of his career and life. Jinda formed Speed Limit in Paris in mid-70's and produced two albums with the band. In between he released ''The Wheel of Love'', a solo album with the help of Speed Limit bandmates Yochk'o Seffer on sax/flute and Jean-Louis Bucchi on keyboards with Didier Batard on bass, Tiboom on percussion and Pascal Bournet on guitar. Recorded at Marnes-La-Coquette Studios and released in 1975 on Motors, this was more of a team effort with the compositions being written by Jinda, Bucchi and Seffer. An overlooked gem of mid-70's Jazz/Fusion, ''The wheel of love'' is an excellent work of versatile, proggy Jazz/Fusion, led by Jinda's phenomenal drumming and with impressive instrumental work by Bucchi and Seffer, offering a very dense amalgam of short, jazzy-spiced pieces with great twists and turns. SBB, PASSPORT and IL BARICENTRO are the closest comparisons. Unlike Speed Limit, the music in here seems to be much more structured, less improvised and extremely tight with fantastic changes between electric piano and synthesizers and occasional sax, flute and guitar leads by Seffer and Bournet. The album contains light psychedelic (scratching guitar parts) and symphonic tendencies (mellow flute drives) over a furious rhythm section and a loose but extremely energetic keyboard work by Bucchi. Pounding grooves, funky touches, atmospheric textures and fiery, jazzy solos are well-linked for a monumental, instrumental effort, where the mood can be dreamy, aggressive and optimistic at the same time. No weak piece actually, all tracks are very rich in instrumental colours, virtuosic solos and extended interplays, changing from smooth underlines to smoky executions with a balanced sound. Jinda would meet guitarist Chieli Minucci in 1982 in New York and the two formed the Lounge Jazz duo Special EFX, which became quite popular. However Jinda's career would be cut short in 1995, when he was diagnosed with asthma and diabetes, leading later to a myoclonic disorder. He passed away in 2001 at the age of 60. One of the best Jazz/Fusion albums of the 70's. Neurotic, angular, passionate but also ethereal and haunting music over a wide spectrum of jazzy-flavoured influences. Highly recommended. Zao - Kawana -NM (SRWOC + small seam split on top + original insert) / M - Ridiculously rare, ridiculously brilliant, supreme example of the best from France - Don't miss this gem - $35.00 3 reviews: On Kawana, Zao recapture the dark Zeuhl spirit which eluded them on Osiris (the only earlier album of theirs I have heard). Opening with the mesmerising Natura, on which Fran'ois Cahen essentially uses his piano as a rhythm instrument to lend extra weight and urgency to the already powerful rhythm section of bassist G'rard Pr'vost and drummer Jean-My Truong, the album proceeds to offer a brooding, volcanic form of fusion-leaning Zeuhl, reminiscent of parent band Magma's earlier (pre-Mekanik Destruktiw Kommandoh) works. Particular praise has to be given to Didier Lockwood, whose violin contributions help to set Zao's sound apart from Magma's work. Zao's exploration of the fusion-Zeuhl route Magma opted against taking is an important contribution to the genre, and Kawana is one of the band's greatest achievements. A typical over the average Zao album with complex composition and vibrant jazz vibes. This album has the most ethnic influence here which is quite nice. Great atmospheric and ballsy fusion, one of the best jazz fusion albums that I've heard. Much Zeuhl here too. Their major inspiration appears to have been Frank Zappa's work, particularly the fusion of Hot Rats to the classical-free jazz mashups of Uncle Meat, Burnt Weeny Sandwich and Weasels Ripped My Flesh. The major difference is that, firstly, Area generally play louder and heavier and more aggressively than the original Mothers of Invention did, and secondly keyboards and synthesisers crop up a bit more than in the Mothers' material - though Area are generally far less keyboard-reliant than most other Italian progressive bands of the time. This will be a shock to the system if you are a prog fan expecting something along the lines of Banco, PFM or Le Orme, but fusion fans will find a lot to like here. Triton is a mostly intrumental package of skilled jazzy avant-prog with some zeuhl influences. The instrumental work is strong and the album manages to stay highly interesting from the start to the finish. They've done very good job with the songwriting and in my opinion Triton is a clear step forward from their debut album Fœtus. Fœtus was a decent package but everything in Triton is just more developed. Highly recommended for everyone who enjoys the more jazz oriented side of progressive rock. Four stars out of five.

A stunning AS NEW copy presented here, with both pic discs looking and sounding fantastic, the inners also great and the outer package an absolute treat. A really beautiful set to own, and a fantastic talking point for any modern music fan (If you’re one of those people who doesn’t know about 'Watch the Throne', I’d also like to catch you up on anything else you might have missed: The Earth revolves around the sun, washing your hands can help reduce the spread of bacteria, and the Union won the Civil War..). IF anything, time has magnified just how good this album truly is. The music is astounding - actually knocked up in less than a month, it sounds like they would have taken years to get the sounds and production values created on this essential collaboration. Packaged in gold embossed, cross shaped vinyl jacket (designed by Ricardo Tisci of Givenchy), this is BLING all the way. Comes with a 24" x 24" Poster (designed by Ricardo Tisci again) and 2 x Picture Discs with Jay-Z and Kanye West images that DON'T sound ****. SOLD OUT Rocky Horror Picture Show Cast – OST – red vinyl – Recent repress on lovely translucent wax. NM/NM. The Weeknd - Beauty Behind The Madness - 2 DISC SET (60254 ) VG+/NM. The new hottie on the R&B dance scene, The Weeknd keeps breaking the charts wide open with his modern pop sensibility, and this 2 disc set shows his very best. An album full of hits, again really hard to nab locally at any sort of discount. Arctic Monkeys - AM – One of the greatest albums of the Century? Radio Hauraki thinks so (and they're usually not far off). Find out what the fuss is about. Cover has a notch out of the front middle, and some light wear to the front and back. 25. Further information: I have decided to sell some of my Wings and Paul McCartney LP's. All were bought new by me in the 1970/80's and all are Australian pressings. Some like Wings over America have never been out of the jacket. All are as NEW, most are first Aussie pressings. The record jackets and inner sleeves are in the same condition they came new from Brashes in Dee Why. This is a once in a life time opportunity to obtain effectively new old stock LP's. I know how difficult it can be to buy used LP's so I'm happy for anyone to audition on my Technics SP10. I played Wings Wild Life for the first time last night and without cleaning it was as you would expect from a new LP. $100.00 each plus postage if needed Wings Back to the Egg........................YEX987/988.........................1979....................inner sleeve.......................Never played London town..............................YEX975/976..........................1978...................poster and sleeve...........Never played Wings Over America...........YEX963-968...........................1976........................................................................Never played Red Rose Speedway.............YEX903/904..........................1973..................inner book.............................Never played Wings Wild Life.......................YEX871/872............................1971..........................................................................Played once Paul McCartney RAM............................................YEX837/838...................no date on label...........................................................Never played Pipes Of Peace....................P165230A/B...................1983........................inner sleeve..................................Never played Tug of War..............................PCTP259..........................1982........................inner sleeve.................................Never played McCartney II.........................PCTC258A/B..................1980........................inner sleeve.................................Never played Photos: Advertisements without photos of the actual item will not be approved.
