  2. A bit of background, I have owned a few projectors, a couple of epson LCD projectors over the years and then the last few years been very happy with a JVC X-35 projector. So Ultra UHD is on our door step ... of course as I am very enthusiastic about these things what should I do ? The obvious would be one of the new Sony 4K projectors...but then have seen the flagship sony 1100ES that retails at over $25k being humbled by my few generations old base model jvc. and even the cheapest 4K sony is some $15k !!!! way more than what I would want to spend and then to top off I find all the sony models in some way or the other dont fully support the new UHD format with either lacking HDR (high dynamic range) or lacking support for the DCI p3 wider gamut that the new format will support. And then I find out JVC has a new range...something that has been 2 years in the making.... http://cdn.jvc.eu/dla-x9000/index.html And unlike the Sony's it built for UHD, utilising a new 4K E-shift 4, and is HDR and wider gamut p3 DCI capable. But hey is it true 4k? The shift for jvcs has always been a 1080p panel that they shift really fast diagonaly to essentially upscale. However according to the jvc info the new 4k e-shift 4 is an evolution of this that takes a 4k signal splits into two frames diagonally and utilises a half pixel diagonal shift with the 1080p panel to create a 4k frame. Something JVC gives a brief explanation of, http://cdn.jvc.eu/dla-x9000/feature01.html Now I am pretty skeptical, though apparently a technology co developed by JVC and japans NHK engineers, that had them develop a 8k projector http://www.pmaresearch.com/pma-blogs/jvc-announces-8k-resolution-projector-with-e-shift-technology/ so a trickle down for 4k consumer projector cant be too much of a stretch hey ? Anyways 4k is beyond Imax and I have no intention of putting in a setup of greater scale than imax so not really chasing 4k. My interest is the other aspects of UHD with HDR and wider gamut and if I get any gains in resolution than what we have ...i'll happily take it with local pricing placing the base model X5000 at $6,160, mid range model X7000 at $8,800 and top model X9000 on $10,450 (not including 3D glasses..but fortunately I already have them from my previous JVC) So as it happens...before I know it ...it turns out I am the first person in the country ordering one of these JVCs ! I go for the piggy in the middle. since the base model uses the previous generation light engine, doesnt quite cover the p3 wide gamut and also quite a bit down on contrast vs the previous years models. And the top model is really only the mid range model with some hand picked parts......so the x7000 model it is for me And I am then one of the first in the world to be receiving one of these black boxes ... on my birthday ! and posting an unboxing...

  4. Hi all I am hoping for some good advice for an outdoor projector for use with the Australian Summer looming! I would prefer a battery powered unit to save running a cable every time I use it. Also want something that can easily be used with Netflix and similar, either with apps on the unit itself or streaming via an iPhone / iPad. Options seem limited in Australia. The best generally on sale here seems to be the Nebula Capsule but my research found the Nebula Mars 2 which does seem a much better product though only available here on import. Then there is the Philips PicoPix Max being crowd funded: https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/philips-picopix-max-1080p-full-hd-pico-projector?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIh-SylMbt5AIViIePCh0NDwdAEAAYASAAEgKuQfD_BwE#/ That looks great but I am concerned about no product reviews being available. Has anyone gone with this or have any thoughts I should consider. Also, what do I need to look for in an outdoor screen. I really want something quick and easy to put up. Thanks so much

  15. Up for sale is my JVC DLA-HD350 projector. I purchased this early 2010. Original RRP for this was $5000. Anyone who know's JVC projectors knows just how good they are, with extraordinary blacks, colours, motion tracking and levels of detail. This review by WhatHiFi on Youtube pretty much says it all - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z7zJAa8Ffwk The DLA-HD350 was WhatHiFi's product of the year for 2009, as they say in the video review nothing else came close. Location for pickup is Middle Park Victoria. I will throw in the ceiling mount for this projector. Looking for $1000.

  18. Item: Panasonic PT-AE3000 1080P Home Theatre Projector Location: Sydney, Erskineville Item condition: Excellent - no stuck pixels or anything. Reason for sale: I've recently moved apartment and unfortunately just cannot find a way to make this projector work in my setup. This is truly a regretful sale. Additional info: Lamp is original and has about 800 hours on it (will confirm when I get home) and has been run on Eco mode for about 790 of those. I have always operated it responsibly - ie never turning it on for less than a couple of hours - which is said to drastically improve lamp life. Lamp life on Eco mode is rated at 3000 hours. Replacement lamps run about $160. If you're looking at this post you probably know how good these projectors are but just in case, here's a few reviews: Projector Central - 5 stars, Editor's Choice Trusted Reviews - 10/10 TechRadar - 5/5 Price: $1250 Feel free to make offers as I don't really have any reference to determine a fair value. Prefer pickup (Erskineville) as I don't have any original packaging. I suppose for a determined interstate buyer I could Pack n Send it.

  24. Item: Planar XScreen 80” projector screen with stand on castors Location: Melbourne (3030) Price: $500 all included (over $4000 at the time of purchase) Item Condition: very good, very few marks what so ever. Still has plastic lining the picture frame Reason for selling: Getting a larger screen in the new house Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal (+ fees), bank transfer, COD Only Extra Info: This was the Rolls Royce screen at the time I bought it. Suitable for low medium light as well as a dark cinema room, it uses Daytime Screen Technology and displays well even with the lights on. It has a 4mm layer of hardened glass behind the screen surface and provides an absolutely flat screen, appearing like a plasma or other flat screen TV. I have had a movable stand made for it, which I am including, but you can also mount it to the wall. Lots of options given its strength and rigidity. I have the original box for it but given its size this is a pick up item only. From SoundandVision 2007: "At the core of the Xscreen is a high-gain, but highly directional, silvery screen. The point of this is to reflect as much light as possible from the projector but not the ambient room light (like a regular screen). To test this, I set up the Xscreen in our lab in front of our regular screen. Then, obviously, I projected an image on it. Just by dropping the Xscreen, I could see what the same-size image looked like on our normal 1.0-gain screen. Most readily apparent is the increase in brightness. The Xscreen was roughly three times brighter than our normal 1.0-gain screen. With the projector we were using, this resulted in around 94 foot-Lamberts versus 31 ft-L with the 1.0-gain screen. With the lights off, the black level was also about three times higher. With the lights on, however, an interesting thing happened. With a white field, the brightness on the Xscreen stayed almost the same, but, on the regular screen, it came up a little less than 10 percent (which, in this case, isn’t good, as it’s just reflected room light). With a 0-IRE black field, it was far more interesting. The black field on the Xscreen was actually 20 percent darker than it was on the 1.0-gain screen. It was doing just as it was advertised: It was blocking more of the ambient light than a regular screen. What this means is that the contrast ratio, on the 1.0-gain screen and the lights on, was a measly 57:1. On the Xscreen with the lights on, it was a far more watchable 194:1. With the lights off, this same projector measured over 8000:1, so the Xscreen can't work miracles, but it's doing quite a lot to make the image watchable in direct light."
  25. Item: Sim2 Cx3 Lite 3-chip Projector Location: Melbourne Eastern Suburbs Price: FREE Item Condition: Not working Reason for selling: Replacing after a long useful life Payment Method: N/a Extra Info: Hi, After a long useful life I am replacing my old Sim2 Cx3 3-chip DLP projector. The fan was playing up for a long while and ultimately ceased to function. I did look around to see if there was anyone around to repair it but Sim2 have moved their distributor so many times no-one really wants to touch these old projectors. One guy, who was the Sim2 service guy at one point, had a look at it. He seemed to think it could be more than just the fan but he didn't want to try fix it - and apparently parts are a pain to get out of Sim2 in Italy. So that's full disclosure. If I don't get any takers, I am taking it down the road to the electronic recyclers, but I thought I would at least post it on here in case anyone wants it for parts or to have a go fixing it. If you are not in Melbourne, I am happy to ship it, but I am not paying for shipping as its not going to cost me anything to recycle.
