  7. Hi all. I recently moved my Pro-ject 6.1s turntable, and I'll likely need to set it all up properly again. One item needing attention is the little ?oil bath underneath. It looks empty and wonky. What do I do here? Also, any other general setup advice would be great. Are there any links to setting it up? I originally had someone else do it all (20years ago!), so I'm rather a novice.... Cheers. Mat Ps. Can't figure why my pics come out umskedoodle. They were the right way up when I started!
  8. Hi guys, First post, let me know if this is in the wrong spot. I recently acquired a Pro-ject Essential II for a very reasonable price, but it is missing the tonearm counterweight and the anti-skating weight. I was wondering if anyone had any pointers on buying one locally (within AUS) or internationally with reasonable shipping rates. Struggling to find the counterweight specifically. Let me know if you guys have any pointers Harry
  9. Item: Pro-Ject Debut Carbon DC Blue Turntable w/Ortofon OM5e Location: Douglas HiFi - Perth Price: $480 Item Condition: Ex-Static Display (Played 1 side of 1 record) Reason for selling: Finished Colour Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Visa, Mastercard, Direct Deposit Shipping Available Australia wide Extra Info: The Pro-Ject Debut Carbon is an excellent starter turntable that helps reveal vinyl's inherent warmth and beauty over digital formats. The supplied Ortofon OM5e cartridge/Stylus combination can easily be upgraded later on with improved stylus options that increase performance up several notches further. The Blue colour is now discontinued - so here is a one off discount price for the limited Blue finish. The first Debut turntable, introduced in the late 1990s, was a revolution for the hi-fi industry. For the first time since the arrival of CDs and the assumed demise of vinyl records, an analogue product re-emerged in the “mass market” – something all music lovers could afford. The Pro-Ject Debut Carbon turntable has been designed to set new standards in the vinyl category at it's price point and improve upon the previous model. The most obvious improvement is the inclusion of a carbon tube for the tonearm - this increases the rigidity and decreases unwanted resonance leading to improved dynamics, detail and improved imaging. Together with other improvements, such as an increase in platter size and weight for a more even and smoother rotation, and a new design in motor suspension, the overall sound quality is greatly improved. 13. Item: Pro-Ject 1-Xpression III Comfort Turntable with BONUS 2M Blue Cartridge with a new Blue Stylus Location: South East Melbourne - BUT Will be in Sydney during Christmas til mid-January and will bring the t/table with me. Can pick up from Lugarno or I can deliver in Metro Sydney. Price: $600 Item Condition: Used; Table 9/10; Cover 6.5/10 Reason for selling: No longer required, getting out of hifi completely. 😞 Payment Method: Cash is King! Pick up from Bunyip, OR can delivery anywhere in Metro Melbourne before December 21 or after January 13; OR pick up from Lugarno in Sydney or delivery anywhere in Sydney between Christmas and mid-January Extra Info: All original packaging included. Standard 2M Red Cart and Stylus; BONUS 2M Blue new stylus and 2M cartridge. I bought this at the Hi-Fi Trader in Newtown in 2014. It has been very well looked after and plays fine. It has a speed adjustment control on the front left, and the start/stop button next to it. Also features an automatic shutoff and tonearm lifter operated by a photodiode, so there's no mechanical actuator connected to the platter, motor or tonearm. I upgraded the motor isolation with the Henley kit. Tonearm was re-wired through Carlton Audio earlier this year because I accidentally pulled off a connector when changing the cartridge. There is a brand new 2M Blue stylus which has had less than an hour's playing time with a 2M blue cartridge. These are in addition to the 2M Red stylus and Cartridge which are stock. The Red cart and stylus would have had 50 to 80 hours of use. The only thing worth pointing out is that the plastic lid is in less than perfect condition as you can see in the photo. There are no cracks at all and it works fine. I always had it covered with a soft hand towel but it has some cosmetic wear nonetheless. I am happy to deliver anywhere in Melbourne Metro, or you can pick it up from Bunyip, a bit further out than Pakenham. I will be in Sydney between Christmas and mid January, so a pick up from Lugarno or drop off in Sydney Metro area can be arranged during that window of time. A few days after Christmas I'll be in the Bulli area as well. We can arrange something I'm sure. Please PM me for any interest. My phone's always on with the SNA app, so I'll keep in prompt communication with you. https://www.project-audio.com/en/product/1xpression-iii-comfort/ Pictures:
  14. CartridgeLab, a Comprehensive Phono Presentation 8pm Wednesday 19th September, visitors welcome. Willis Room, City of Whitehorse Offices Maroondah Highway (Whitehorse Road), Nunawading Melway Map 48 Ref G9 Contact: 9437 1249 This month we are in for a very special and entertaining presentation. Leigh Fischer from Interdyn, who import the full range of Pro-Ject turntables and more recently Ortofon will be conducting a phono cartridge demonstration. "CartridgeLab is an interactive demonstration tool, designed in Australia, which allows us to explore key models in the Ortofon cartridge range." A Pro-Ject 2Xperience SB Turntable is modified by fitting an Ortofon TA-110 Tonearm accompanied with a suite of eight cartridges. The headshell mounted 2M series moving magnet and Quintet series moving coil cartridges are weighted to be swappable, allowing Leigh to quickly move through the models. We will be listening to the cartridges through a system comprising of a Pro-Ject phono stage, a Tube Box DS2 with its switchable front phono settings which allows us to explore some of the characteristics of the phono cartridges. A Rotel Pre & Power Amp combo, the RC-1592 and RB-1590 will supply plenty of power to tease out those transients as we move up the Ortofon range. A pair of PMC Twenty 5.26 floor standing speakers will provide the sound energy to fill the Willis Room. A three way design, this flagship model from the Twenty5 series of speakers, comprises of a 6.5inch bass driver, a 2inch dome midrange and a 27mm tweeter. The Twenty5 represents the latest in a series of evolutionary stages in perfecting the company's ATL (advanced transmission line) interpretation. "This system showcases the increased dynamic response and openness of moving coil cartridges, along with the increased resolution of more extreme stylus profiles. During the demonstration we'll explore key points of differences in cartridge design and discuss the trade-offs, benefits and - perhaps most interesting - the inevitable compromises we can encounter within the analogue world." Sounds like we're in for a very informative evening. Nick Karayanis Program Co-ordinator Ken Tripp Wise and Wonderful Webmaster Melbourne Audio Club, Inc. http://www.melbourneaudioclub.org.au

I have uploaded a couple of videos so u can have an idea of the sound quality, take in consideration that I have recorded them using a phone. 33 RPM: 45 RPM I'm including a Roksan Corus Blue cartridge which came on the new TT I bought in here and the seller described as "looks in good condition and should have many more hours in it", I did tested and it sounds very nice. 20. Hello, SNA friends, I am total novice in turntable and never had one. I mainly listen from network player or CDP but after reading many positive aspects of Vinyl on this forum, keen to try one and need a bit of advice to choose right one if possible. First of all, I noticed that there are two different types of turntables such as belt driven and direct-drive and each has its own Pros & Cons that I found as below; Belt Drive A belt drive turntable spins the platter using an elastic belt that’s attached to the motor. The platter sits on a bearing (a bearing is a device that is used to enable rotational or linear movement) and is isolated from the motor. Pros The elastic belt absorbs shock and prevents vibrations that are generated by the motor from reaching the platter. Isolating the motor from the platter also results in less noise transmission to the tonearm. It is generally believed that belt drive turntables produce better sound quality due to less noise interference from the motor. Cons Belt Drive turntables have much lower torque and can have less accurate playback speed. The belt can eventually (a few years) wear down and need to be replaced. Direct Drive In a direct drive turntable, the platter is attached to and spins directly via the motor. Direct drive turntables offer more constant and accurate speeds, and generally feature faster start up times and stronger torque. Pros Direct Drive turntables have higher torque and offer highly consistent speeds. Higher torque means the platter is less vulnerable to outside forces, such as the stylus or your hand. A higher torque also means that the platter accelerates to a constant speed faster, which results in less sound distortion. Allows you to spin the platter backwards to create special sound effects, which are preferred by DJ’s. Cons The rotation of the motor generates unwanted vibrations that can affect sound quality. This issue can be addressed with the use of shock absorbers between the platter and the motor. If I understood correctly, Direct Drive might be better for beginner since it has involved less maintenance and if that case, I am thinking to get "Audio Technica AT-LP120 USB" after reading many positive review online. If Belt Drive option is better for long run, then may save more and get "Pro-Ject Debut Carbon"? If I understood correctly, Pro-Ject Carbon does not come with preamp built in so need phono pre-amp separately which will add costs. Which one might be better for a novice between the two, and is TT + separate pre-amp noticeably better in terms of sound quality against the one that comes with built in Amp? Any other model suggestions would be welcome and appreciated. Thank you very much in advance.
  21. Item: Pro-ject Audio Speaker Box 5 with custom stands Location: Hawthorn Price: $270 for the pair of speakers Item Condition: As new Reason for selling: Not needed Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Bank Tranfer Extra Info: This is a virtually new pair of Pro-ject Audio Speaker Box 5 (the largest of the desktop speakers) in white. Hard to find in Asutralia, amazing little performer and unbeatable for the money. New cost: $400, will sell for $270. Comes with original box, protective sleeves and papers. For those who are interested, I also have a pair of custom-made spekaer stands that sit under them and elevate them to a perfect height when used on a desk (see photos). Additionally, these stands have been acoustically designed for added performance and include a strong wooden enclosure with the same gloss white finish as the speakers, filled with sand. They are solid, very heavy for their size and match the speakers perfectly. Most importantly, they provide a very noticebale performace boost. Also, by raising the speakers to an ear-level height, the sound stage and overall presentation of the speakers is dramatically improved. These cost me more than the actual speakers to custom build, but will sell for an additional $100 for the pair. Pictures:
