Hi, Recently an SNA member posted or pointed us to this article about vinyl pressing plants & their ability to pump out enough discs because of the renewed demand. http://www.theguardian.com/music/2015/jan/07/-sp-vinyls-difficult-comeback This was good reading. One of the takeaways was the comment about how in a "Sunday Session" where Colleen Murphy played two versions of the same Beach Boys 45 (one from the 99 & one from the early 70's) that the original version sounded significantly fuller than the latter. She contributed this to a lot of current remastered vinyl being pressed from an mp3 source. This has got me thinking. How do you know or how can you find out (other than what the sales websites tell you) what source was used for the current crop of re-pressings? She mentioned that the Led Zep ones pressed at Optimal Plant were from the tapes, but many others from USA plants in particular were not. I'm interested to know any sites or data-bases which can tell you this & therefore make the purchasing of new re-pressings more transparent as I for one don't care much for pressings from mp3...
