  2. Further information: DIY SRPP tube preamp on Hammond chassis with wood cheeks. Black epoxy enamel finish. Output caps are Mundorf oil supreme and Ck is NP (snubbed). A 24 step gold contact stepper attenuator and gold knob control volume . Because it is a SRPP output impedance is low and drives SS amps with ease. Four inputs and one output on gold plated heavy duty RCAs. Inputs selectable from the font. Tubes are Psvane 50 year treasures. Incredible sounding tubes on part with the Grant Fidelity spheres at twice the price. The PS is external and connects to the preamp via a XLR female plug. All voltages to the preamp are DC. A 24V 1A wall wart powers the external PS. The HT is choked (Hammond 5H) and over 400uf of filtration is used in a triple Pi network. Last cap in the preamp for HT is a Russian PIO cap (Snubbed) for better mids and treble reproduction. The preamp is dead silent with plenty of gain. http://retro-thermionic.blogspot.com/2019/03/icon-cv-181-z-preamp.html Photos: ELECTRICAL DISCLAIMER This product has not been manufactured by a qualified individual or company, therefore contains electrical circuits that do not necessarily comply with Australian Standards. 3. I have now had the Trinnov Altitude16 (a 16 channel surround sound processor and optimizer) in my home theatre system for a couple of days now. The Altitude16 (AL16) replaced my Onkyo PR-RZ5100 and Trinnov Amethyst 2 channel sound processor. Those on this forum know that I have been evolving my system for some time and recently I upgraded my 2 channel amplification with the Anthem STR power amplifier. I have retained my Elektra HD2 7 channel amplifier. With the acquisition of the AL16 and there only being XLR analogue outputs, I needed also to do away with the RCA cables connecting my former Onkyo, Amethyst. The only unbalanced cables being used now are the hybrid female XLR out to male RCA cables to my dual subwoofers. It is a bit of a pity that my SVS subs only have RCA inputs The obvious question for some people is WHY would I dispense with a perfectly good Onkyo PR-RZ5100 pre-amplifier? Well it is rather simple. Having been through the steep learning curve of integrating the Trinnov Amethyst into my system and knowing the improvement in sound that yielded for my 2 channel music duties, I thought well why not do the same for my movies/Netflix UHD experience. During the time I had my Amethyst I have become a Roon convert and this now all blends seamlessly into the whole package, particularly so now that I get a solid 48 Mbps NBN connection. Granted that during the last 2 years I have saved my pennies for the AL16, at this early stage I can only say that the AL16 is meeting my high expectations and is a quantum step up from the former 7.2 channel sound achieved with the Onkyo. I think that IF one was to jump straight into the AL16 upgrade path without previously experiencing the setup with the Amethyst, you would be in for a very steep learning curve. So, for me this time, the curve has not been so steep. Having already been familiar with calibrating the Amethyst was a huge bonus. At this point I must congratulate Trinnov in the support that they give. Before and after I purchased the AL16, I have fired off many many questions and I am happy to say that Antoine Selle (from Trinnov support in Paris) has been superb. We have been corresponding by email and despite the time zone difference, replies often arrived within 30 minutes!! You very rarely get this type of service in Australia. Also, very helpful has been David Moseley from Cogworks (in QLD) in offering advice. As most should know Trinnov offer a 5 year warranty on their high-end products. I am feeling very secure that future software updates can/will be done remotely as they become available. I won’t go into the intricate details of the setting the AL16 up, other than to say that you need to be unhurried with a unit as sophisticated as this, as there are so many settings to bed down. The colour manual does a good job to explain the key elements of the AL16 package. To view results of the room optimisation and to operate the AL16 you need VNC software (so you can see all manner of graphs and settings and controls as I did with the Amethyst). I opted to use the Tight VNC software running on my PC and VNC Mocha on my iPad. The AL16 was instantly recognised on my network and all you had to do was to put in your serial number as the password and I was off and running. Suffice to say at present I have two pre-sets that I have called Roon Music (leveraging off my Tidal subscription and NAS drive) and another called Movies/TV. The Roon Music pre-set is a 2.2 channel setup with base management feeding my dual subwoofers. The Movies/TV pre-set is a 7.2 setup (I now have 2 spare channels of amplification … maybe I could go to 9.2 with some Atmos ceiling speakers in the future, but that might be for another day). It was quite remarkable that during the Roon Music calibration I made the deliberate effort to stay out of the room for fear of interrupting the process, well so I thought … in fact I was 2 metres out of the room but directly behind my rear seats (my theatre doors were open at the rear of my home theatre – their usual position). When I moved, the calibration process objected that there was too much movement, so I had to start again! Talk about precision and sensitivity!!! Now for the AL16 sound …. Last night I decided to be bold and watch a Netflix movie. This movie I chose was The Mule starring a very senior Clint Eastwood. Dialogue in some setups are a little unclear .. not so here, even when Clint Eastwood tended to mumble. Soundstage was very spacious and very coherent. Coherency is the single attribute that I used to describe the Amethyst sound (the direct result of Trinnov’s proprietary optimising software), and this is now replicated amongst 7 channels rather than just 2. I was very startled at one point in the movie when rifle shots rang out. The rifle shots (which emanated from the right rear channels) had a sharp cracking sound to them that preceded the bass sound … this sounded very life-like. The Onkyo rifle sounds are somewhat muddied by comparison to the AL16. Then I put on one of my favourite UHD disks, La La Land, to listen to Damien Chazelle’s wonderful score. Well, I was not disappointed. Magnificent and glorious are words to use here and I would suggest that this disk be a reference test for the musicality of a sound processor being fed HDMI input. The Roon Music pre-set in the AL16 is doing an equally good job as did the Amethyst for 2 channel music, although I am still editing the Target Curve for this pre-set and I am sure that I will take some time to get this exactly where I want this. Another aspect that I had to encounter was to edit my ‘devices’ and ‘activities’ in my Harmony Remote. So far this is working well, and I reported to Antoine and David that I am not having ANY HDMI issues at all. I have retained the setup using just ONE 2.0 HDMI out that feeds an HDMI splitter to serve my Panasonic 4K TV and JVC 7900 projector. Time to enjoy and tweak, reflect, enjoy and then tweak some more. Perhaps separate pre-sets for each of my Oppo 203 UHD player, Foxtel IQ4 box and Apple 4K TV.
  4. Further information: Purchased few weeks ago from Norway as a second hand unit, so I don't know anything about it's history. It was pretty neglected (dirty) but in good condition. Now it is clean inside (compressed air and board cleaner) and outside. Excellent sound, planned to keep for longer time but something else came up...( as always ). Two led lights (input indicators) behind front panel didn't work, replaced with new , but new were better and brighter then others so I replaced them all...now it presents as almost new. Remote is showing signs of wear, but it's fully operational. I was using it in my study, within the reach so I never used the remote except when it arrived to check if works. "The Electrocompaniet EC 4.7 is a high resolution, high performance, DC coupled and fully balanced, remote controlled preamplifier. EC 4.7 has six single ended inputs, where one is fully balanced. One balanced and one single ended line output, and one fixed single ended output to be used as record. The remote controlled motorized volume is developed to not influence or degrade the sonic performance of the EC 4.7. Volume control and input sources can easily be navigated from the remote controller or via the navigators on the front panel. The navigator's window displays the selected source, and the volume position in analogy shown by a blue lit. The EC 4.7 features Electrocompaniets unique FTT technology, which is capable of deliver twice the current as conventional power supply designs. This combination with a Toroidal transformer and a reservoir of capacitance far beyond necessary will give you more than adequate control of your system. Contains only high quality discrete components." Comes with original double box and manual. No power amp at the moment, BYO for demo. 5. Further information: Smart looking in vivid red and even better sounding SRPP tube preamp. Built on a Hammond Wood cheek chassis with external PS. A 24V wall wart (provided) powers the PS which joins to the preamp via a heavy cord. Tubes are Gold Lion Gold pin E88CC. This original design was re-tweaked by the designer to work even better with this specific tube. Two selectable inputs from small front Switch one set of output RCAs. Drives into heavy loads with ease and powers my Holton amps well. 4oz solid brass gold plated knob on Alps blue velvet pot. WBT silver solder throughout and Russian Military PIO caps on the output. Silver plated wire wrap wire use for internal hookup. Final HT cap is Russian (subbed) 4uf PIO. Both HT and heater voltage is DC and triple Pi filtered. Tubes have Dragon Ring dampeners. PS is choked with a Hammond 5H choke and 400uf of 400V filter caps. A very natural sounding super clean preamp with a fast and nibble touch. Dead quiet operation. 6. Preamplifier designed and built by Clay Geiseler of Geiseler Audio. Uses the Muses 72320 analogue volume control as featured in some high end Pass preamplifiers. 3 inputs and single output. Remote control for volume and source selection. Able to be run as a linestage or add gain via a switch. I talked to Clay and changed the gain from 6dB to 12dB to suit my uses and I can change this back if you would prefer. Nice sounding and functional preamp. It spent a lot of time in my system. Screen is not huge so it may be a little difficult to read from far away.

  8. Further information: This duo has served me well for the last 4/5 years, I’ve been very happy with their great sound and stunning appearance [very high WAF, photos don’t do the piano black justice] and could have continued happily if not for the offer of a too good to refuse upgrade from a friend. The Nova Pre is Class A and has a quality onboard Dac using an ESS Sabre 9023 chip capable of 24/192 and also has a dedicated headphone output stage and a tube buffer which can be engaged if desired, all operations can be controlled from the included remote. The 220 Power amp is Class D using 2 x B&O ICE modules and delivers 220W into 8 Ohm or 400W into 4 Ohm, so plenty of power for just about any speakers. They were designed to be used together and complement one another, so the Class A pre together with the ICE modules means all the power you need with non of the fatigue or digital “glare” that some Class D amps are prone to [See reviews below ] I have used this combo in conjunction with a few different streamers, CDPs and a variety of standmounts and floorstanders and found it very compatible and versatile and always found it could step up to the demands of better gear as I’ve improved other components. Most recently I’d been using with a Zen Mk3 streamer and Buchardt S400 standmounts and was very happy with the pairing. They’ve lived in a smoke, child, pet free environment and are in beautiful condition apart from one tiny black blemish on the Pre faceplate, see photos [could easily be touched with silver marker but never bothered me] .They were cleaned and checked by a tech two years ago and given a clean bill of health. They come with original remote, manuals, power and trigger cables and original double box’s and foam cradles so happy to freight [ Approx. estimate Couriers Please to Sydney or Melbourne $80 PM me for exact quote] Any questions please ask. https://www.tonepublications.com/review/peachtree-audio-novapre-and-peachtree220/ http://www.avmentor.net/reviews/2014/peachtree_audio_nova_pre_220_0.shtml http://www.enjoythemusic.com/magazine/equipment/0613/peachtree_audio_novapre_dac.htm https://parttimeaudiophile.com/2013/12/08/peachtree-audio-novapre-and-peachtree220-amplifier/ Photos:
  9. Further information: This unit is in excellent condition functionally and cosmetically. There are no scratches, marks, dings or dents. This unit has the original 4x HDMI 1.3b board with its latest firmware. I have used this unit for movies, high resolution surround (SACD, DVD-Audio, Blu-ray) and 2 channel audio application for the last 8 years with very satisfying results. Main reason for my purchasing the unit was the sound quality. The Classe SSP-800 represents the pinnacle of Classe performance and quality. The sound is smooth and detailed. The person who buys, is looking for the best audio quality in one unit for both stereo & surround. I am the second owner and have the original receipt, box and manual. 11. I intended using this with my Manley Mahi power amps, but never did, so it has been in storage for a number of years. It was an ex demo unit when I acquired it, so has very few hours on it. 'Tis a thing of beauty and needs to find an owner who will love and appreciate it. It is in its original packaging, with original valves and owner manual.

  16. Further information: This is a no-compromise comprehensive DAC/preamp/subxover/headphone solution to digital room correction, with NATIVE PCM sample rate and DSD digital signal processing at all rates from 44.1 to 192kHz, and DSD 64-128 unlike most other DSP devices which resample to the one rate internally which is a lossy process. It has USB, and multiple coaxial, optical, and analog inputs. It has a very sweet sounding fully balanced DAC section based on selected 3xTI PCM1792 DACs and high quality ADCs. It also acts as a subwoofer crossover which can be manual or automatic, a preamp with normal or high voltage output, and allows passthrough of the main channel room corrected digital signal for a separate DAC if so inclined. It comes with remote control, and a professional microphone on a 5 metre long cable for automatic and manual room measurement and correction, and bluetooth supported smartphone app. This is light years better than their award winning "dual core" model in terms of features and sound quality, as it is their reference device. I have a separate DAC and preamp and have moved to a software solution for room correction and crossover but found this device invaluable at doing all of the above tasks as I slowly added more separates to do each task individually. 18. Further information: Legendary preamplifier of the legendary company. Currently on sale in major retailers for $13,995 Amazing sound, amazing look, amazing value. First owner, less than 1.5 years old, was not used for last 6 months. 9.5/10 just because not brand new. I have all original boxes, manuals, etc The feature packed C52 Preamplifier lets you connect virtually any of your analog components and digital music sources – including those that play the latest high resolution formats such as DSD files – to one easy-to-use device to enjoy them all. "You will rule your world with the C52. Cool as all this is, it sounds fantastic too. No one combines just the right amount of bling and performance as McIntosh – that’s why they are a legend." - Tone Audio "I can’t think of another component that manages to do so much so superlatively well, with no compromises in any ways that matter to me as an audio critic and music lover." - The Absolute Sound For connecting analog devices, it includes 3 balanced and 4 unbalanced fully assignable inputs plus 1 each of Moving Coil and Moving Magnet phono inputs for connecting a turntable and enjoying your vinyl collection. On the digital side, it has 3 optical, 2 coaxial and 1 USB input. The optical and coax inputs will decode digital music at up to 24-bit/192kHz for high resolution audio playback. The C52 is also capable of decoding and playing back DSD files for the latest in high fidelity performance; the USB input accepts PCM signals up to 32-bit/384kHz and supports DSD64, DSD128 and DSD256 plus DXD 352.8kHz and DXD 384kHz. An MCT input offers a secure, custom DSD connection for playback of the high definition audio found on SACDs when paired with the MCT500 SACD/CD Transport to deliver the purest possible sound quality from your CD library. The C52 features a 24-bit/192kHz, DSD digital-to-analog-converter (DAC). "Smooth? You bet. Realistic timbre? Check. Instruments and voices sound staggeringly realistic with no edge or glare whatsoever? Got it." - Tone Audio "While this preamp provides a tidal wave of sound, it also shows off a good amount of detail... I keep hearing more stuff packed into the crevices of the music." - New Record Day New to the C52 is that all inputs are available all of the time – even if you assign certain inputs to certain devices, giving you more freedom to configure your system the way you want. The outputs have also been updated to be easier to operate when bi-amping or tri-amping so that your highs and/or lows are not inadvertently turned off. An 8 band analog equalizer allows you to fine tune your various music sources just the way you like. For headphone listening, an added dimension can be brought to your music with the addition of Headphone Crossfeed Director (HXD®). The Home Theater Pass Through feature allows for seamless integration into your multi-channel home theater system. This "battleship of a preamplifier" has all the connections one could want "and then some... McIntosh has taken the term 'comprehensively equipped' and run with it, for maximum flexibility and future proofing... If you're looking to indulge in your music instead of the sound it makes, then the C52 and MC301 are 'strongly recommended.'" - Hi-Fi+ The C52 is one of many McIntosh products to receive Roon Tested designation from Roon Labs. It has been profiled and tested by both Roon and McIntosh for maximum compatibility. Roon will recognize it and send it audio optimized for its capabilities. No fiddling with checkboxes or dropdowns, Roon Tested devices are automatically identified and configured out of the box for a superior customer experience. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OdzxjnvuOo4&t=3s https://www.theabsolutesound.com/articles/mcintosh-c52-solid-state-preamplifier/
  19. Further information: Solid state preamplifier made by Joe Rasmussen from JLTi in Sydney. Only two inputs and one output and is meant to stay on as it has no on/off switch. This is a great sounding pre with very little use as it was a spare when the main pre required tender loving care. Price includes shipping within Australia. 20. Further information: I purchased this unit second hand. THe previous owner stated it had not been used and given the condition it arrived in I tend to believe them. Since then I have put about 20 hours on it. The effect on the audio is a pleasant one, however I primarily listen to headphones and I have headphones that I already love the sound of with a neutral amp, so I do not need to add anything extra to the mix. I did try it with my desktop speakers and I did enjoy it. Particularly being able to increase the low bass and play with the reverb/crossfeed. That said I simply do not listen with speakers enough to justify it. Photos: Advertisements without photos of the actual item will not be approved.

  22. Further information: Purchased new from local Sydney HiFi store for $1895, it’s as-new with original box, comprehensive user manual and USB Lead. Selling as I’m using the DAC1 HDR that had a remote option, otherwise pretty much identical. This unit is solid and well made, manufactured in the USA. It is far more than just a high quality DAC, it can also function as a digital and analogue pre-amp, with an analogue input, with 5 digital inputs, ie. usb, optical and 3x coax. Has both balanced and unbalanced outputs and output can be either fixed or variable for connection direct to a power amp. The main feature however it was used for is its outstanding 2x headphone inputs, it was used mostly with a set of AKG 701/2 and HD600/650 headphones and are the perfect match. pickup preferred or alternately I will pack and post registered post with tracking and signature Australia wide for $25. 23. Further information: This is unquestionably high end. It was my reference pre-amp along with the matching mono amplifiers which have also since been sold. Being modular in design, there are eight input and two output module slots. "You can configure your PA8 with additional RCA or XLR line inputs, MM/MC phono input, one of two DACs and an FM tuner, as well as an additional tube single ended or tube XLR output." Note: I am selling the unit with 1 pair x XLR output, 1 x pair x RCA output, and 1 pair x XLR input only. You can then purchase your additional inputs/modules as required. I have confirmed with the new AVM Audio distributor in Australia that the new modules are now available. The PA8.2 model has recently been released which other than a headphone jack, is essentially just a firmware update - the clever thing about this is that by purchasing any of the new .2 modules, as soon as you plug one in it will update the main unit's firmware to the new .2 version also. The RRP was $12,495. Can freight at cost Australia wide with insurance. Photos:
  24. Up for sale due to upgrade my beloved Redgum RGM175 pre and power mono block amps. I'm the original owner and have the original user manual and box. other then a slight scratch next to volume knob, the amp is in great condition.
  25. Further information: I bought this second hand some time ago and it already had the minor cosmetic damage to it. It appears to have been scraped along the front causing damage to the volume knob and HP sockets (see images). However, it has worked perfectly for the entire time I've had it (a few years now) and continues to be a great amp. It's basically a single-ended version of the NFB-1 amp (according to Audio-gd) and it's got buckets of power (3W @ 25 ohm, Class A) and tonnes of inputs and outputs for use as both headamp and preamp. The output is switchable so you can keep it connected to speakers and headphones and just easily toggle between the two. Here's a link to the Audio-gd listing: http://www.audio-gd.com/Pro/Headphoneamp/C22015/C22015EN.htm (Please note: I do not have the remote control as mentioned on the site) It's pretty big (see image with headphones for scale) and weighs a fair amount so will need to discuss shipping costs or local pickup with minimum contact Photos:
