  7. Good morning everyone. First time thread for me and thank you all in advance for reading and commenting/advising. I have done a little searching for similar threads in relation to DAC vs Pre-amp etc and found some knowledgeable advice however I though I would decide to specify exactly what I have so any posters out there had similar spec'd equipment & can share their experiences. I have recently purchased an Emotiva XPA2 Gen 1 for a bargain price and also have a Cambridge DAC Magic Plus, Pioneer N30 Network player and a set of Polk RTiA9 speakers. So basically, I wand to connect the N30 Coax out to the Cambridge Coax in and the analogue XLR outs to the XLR in into the Emotiva and bi-wired connected to the Polks. I believe that the Emotiva earlier Gen amps had an higher input sensitivity and may work well with only the DAC Magic Plus as the pre-amp considering it has a volume control. I normally crank the music up very loud hence not too worried about the digital volume control (not sure if it is but I assume) being low level. What are your thoughts? Do you think the DAC is enough or should I get a Preamp? Cheers

  9. This is a reluctant sale of my home theatre system. My wife is remodelling the lounge room so my home theatre has to go as there will be no room for it any more :-( Everything you need is included to get the system up and running ie all speaker cables. The Denon amp is able to be connected to a wired network and is Apple Airplay compatible. It can also be controlled by a phone or tablet via the Denon app. More info can be found in the photos below. The Polk LS90 floor standing speakers are made of solid timber as opposed to laminated particle board. As such, weigh in at 33kg's each. The floor standers also come with floor spikes for on carpet, flat feet for tiles and felted feet for timber floors. I still have all of the original boxes for everything. The system sounds absolutely fantastic and I will be sad to see it go. 10. Item: Polk Audio Moitor 10B Mid Range Driver MW6501 Price Range:$50 Item Condition: New or Used Extra Info: I seem to have blown just 1 mid driver MW 6501 for my Polk 10B. (I think the bass was turned up with the loudness button on from a quiet night of listening the previous evening', then I forgot to reset and played it loud during the daytime). Either that or its an irreparable sagging spider). Soooooo Sad, Have only had them a couple of months. If anyone has this mid or a compatable mid, I would be very happy (the speakers only cost me $220 all up so I am hoping to get a mid for not much more than $50. Thanks everyone.

  13. Hello everyone, I am new to Hi-Fi but am just assembling my first (entry-level) serious system. I just bought a Rotel RA-1520 integrated amplifier and now I am on the lookout for a set of bookshelf speakers that would be a good match. This is for a 10m x 3.6m x 3m quite dead (mostly carpeted) open-plan space. The lady of the house has dictated that floorstanders are not an option. Ultimately I would also be looking to add a subwoofer to the mix to adequately cover the bass. At the moment I am just using a Pro-ject DAC box for input which I will also upgrade down the track. I was thinking to spend $AUD1000-1500 but could stretch to $2000 if there is a significant and justifiable increase in quality. I know that the only way to pick speakers is by auditioning them which I plan to do shortly. However, it would be very helpful to have a list of vetted options on which to focus. There is an incredible number of different options out there. It would also be helpful to get an Australian perspective given the different pricing and availability here. So far I've only listened to the Polk LSiM703 which I thought were excellent. A lot of people talk about B&W being a good match for Rotel (685, CM1, CM5). From other forums, KEF (Q300, R300, R100, LS50), Dynaudio (Excite X12, DM 2/6, DM 2/7), ATC (SCM11) and PMC (DB1i, twenty .21/.22) have also been recommended, though the latter are a little out of my league. If anyone could share their experiences with the above or suggest any other options, it would be very much appreciated. Many thanks in advance. Kind regards, Nick
