Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only Extra Info: This fine amplifier was chosen for his personal use as his reference amplifier by renowned professional audio designer and acoustician Graham Thirkell. Graham’s many tape recorder designs are unmatched, and his large range of studio equipment still highly sought. Read Graham’s profile at this Audio Engineering Society link: http://www.aesmelbourne.org.au/graham-thirkell/ Graham and Kostas Metaxas had many conversations on the differences and similarities between high end and professional design and requirements, and they collaborated on occasion. The phono input on this amp is one result of that collaboration. It is difficult for me to say goodbye to this amp. Not only because it has such a beautiful sound, but also as it holds so many memories of listening together with Graham to new music and equipment. This is a once only opportunity to purchase and enjoy a piece of proud history of the design initiatives of Australian high quality audio designers. Recently I was forced to downgrade from a beautiful Metaxas stereo amp to a Yamaha RX-V385. This unit was recommended by a family member as being the best within my very limited price range. I am getting used to it, but am wondering if I should use the YPAO which I assume is a parametric equaliser. Don’t want to allow it then find I don’t like the EQ. Does anyone have any experience of this, and can I delete it if I want? The Metaxas amp is going up for sale when I work out how to list it in classifieds. So far it has eluded me. thanking you.
Item: Metaxas Iraklis III integrated amp Location: Northcote MELB Price: $250 Item Condition: Very good Reason for selling: Surplus to needs Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only Extra Info: I came across this at an auction, labeled as a 'motor speed controller'. Was blowing output fuses of one channel but had it repaired by Zamtek in Melbourne, faulty diode in the power supply. It's a nice amp, but I can't come around to the aesthetics. I had the case panels (stainless steel) powdercoated textured black while it was getting repaired, which helps, but it's still kind of weird - obviously the front panel is designed to be orientated vertically, but then the case ventilation doesn't work properly! I chose horizontal and installed some proper feet. Working perfectly now and a very nice class AB sound. Pickup only, Northcote MELB Pictures:
Item: Metaxas Cp 2 Preamplifier with Phono Stage & separate power supply. Location: Gosford/Sydney Price: $480 neg Item Condition: 7/10 a few marks, but nothing major. Reason for selling: Too much stuff Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal buyer pays fees, COD Only Extra Info: I've used this preamp for a while now and really enjoyed it, but I need to raise funds and a few things have to go. In terms of sound quality, this ones right up there with the best I've heard. Superb clarity and definition, while remaining musical at all times. Excellent bass response on my system. Selectable hi and low gain setting, making it easier to integrate into your system. Also has an adjustable Phono stage, although I'm unable to test this. Everything else works fine. Dual mono volume controls on the same adjustment. Well buit and heavy with the solid marble sides. I can post this anywhere in Australia, or worldwide. Pictures:
