The result is I spent too much as I was looking for perfection. Yes I spent the asking price $2800 on top of unit's price. All the work done on this unit is fully documented by the technician. Documentation and receipts of the work can be given to the new owner. The original packing box is not in a good shape. Comes with original owners handbook. 5. Item: Marantz CD6004 CD Player Location: Williamstown Victoria Price: $350 Item Condition: Like new Reason for selling: NLR Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only Extra Info: Have this fabulous CD player sitting around not getting used. Its really very good - I put it into my system last night to test and photograph it, and I'd forgotten how good it sounded. I was so taken with the sound that I played through a couple of CD's before I stopped. Has a USB input on the front so its very versatile, and can be used as a transport. Also allows you to switch off the USB input, display and digital outputs to improve the sound quality - which is the mode I use it in. The previous model was highly lauded and reviewed, beating everything at its price point and then some. This model sports a new CD mechanism, upgraded power supply, brand new DAC, new amplifier module and a new, vibration-eliminating solid metal bottom-plate. It looks much more expensive than it is, and the quality of the case and buttons would make you think so to. The CD player reproduces music in a rich, detailed but dynamic way, and has a way with rhythm that is really infectious. See What Hifi for a great review, which pretty much sums up what I think: https://www.whathifi.com/marantz/cd6004/review Alas I have too much gear and the upgrade bug has bitten me bad so I have to clear the decks, raise some funds and say goodbye to some of this lovely gear. Comes with a Marantz remote and a standard power cable if you need one, but I dont have the original packaging so I'm more interested in pick at this point. If you're interstate and really keen drop me a line and I might consider it depending on how much interest I get. Donation to SNA on successful sale. 11. Hi! First time posting here! I’m looking for purchasing advice in relation to the Richter Mentor V speakers. I have a Pro-ject Debut Carbon Esprit and a Marantz 2252b and I’m looking at the Mentors to replace Klipsch R15M speakers that I got to start my system off. There’s a bit of information/reviews on the smaller Merlin’s online, but not too much info on the Mentors. Does anyone have any opinions or sage wisdom in relation to the Mentors and how they would go with my setup? Cheers

  15. After about a year of use, my second hand Marantz SR-96 has been outputting a distorted audio signal out of the left channel. I know it's not the speakers or the speaker cable because it distorts when head phones are plugged in as well; It also distorts all the inputs. Does anyone know what the problem is? If/how I can prevent it from happening any longer? Cheers
  16. So I have 2 of these amps and both have issues. The first one was running fine for some time then occasionally the relay would click and the sound would cut out. Eventually it got worse. Sometimes I would have to turn it on and wait a couple of minutes for the relay to fire before any sound would come out. Then it eventually stopped eorking altogether. The other issue is that it won't remember the saved setting if left for any period of time longer than a day or 2. I assumed it was a capacitor issue going by the fact it's old and how it gradually got worse. I pulled it apart and replaced all the large capacitors on the main board but the relay issue is not resolved. I have not checked the settings issue as it doesn't output any sound so I put it aside. I aquired another one and it works but also has the same issue with saving settings. I like these amps because of the built in graphic equalizer. Any suggestions on what it could be other than caps?
  17. For Sale Marantz SR-7005 Receiver Its in great condition, just under 2 years old and purchased from Apollo Hifi - Australian Stock I purchased the Airplay firmware upgrade also, so it's great to stream from iphone/ipad It is currently bi-amping my front speakers with a Proton 1200 Amp. 18. Well it's been a while since I last logged in, a lot has changed since I began the refurbishment on my Orpheus cs28 loudspeakers. I've moved into a house all by myself, which has allowed me the freedom to put together a new system that isn't restricted by space. I'm still currently spending a lot of money making this place a home so the budget was pretty tight, as such I have had to turn my attention to the second hand market, and I think I have done well. When I first moved in I was using an old 6 Channel Kenwood amplifier with no remote, my still unfinished Orpheus cs28 speakers, a Logitech subwoofer that I hacked into a makeshift passive subwoofer that was driven by the dedicated subwoofer amp section on the Kenwood, and simply using my laptop as the audiovisual source, ah the things you have to live with when you're broke and forced into living out of a 3x3m room. I found a guy on gumtree selling a pair of Orpheus Nexus II loudspeakers, a Richter unicorn center speaker, and a Marantz SR5400 amplifier, along with an old 42" plasma. The add stated the speakers and tv worked fine but the amplifier was busted, $250 for the lot, after inspection I discoverd the amplifier to be working fine but both Orpheus had blown tweeters, the tv was displaying green and red vertical lines, I talked him down to $190 for all the speakers and amplifier. $50 and 4 weeks later I had the Orpheus repaired and they sound perfect. A friend of mine had moved in with friends and wanted to offload his 50" LG plasma, picked it up for $100. Anyway, this is how it stayed for a few months, last month I finally had a little more expendable cash and decided to go shopping. Gumtree served up a DTX 15" subwoofer, it seems pretty competent so far. I'm normally not a fan of cash converters, but I ended up stopping for a look at a franchise in a dodgier part of town and found a gold nugget. A Belkin 13 port power console, $165. The most recent piece of the puzzle, the marantz sr5400 was only rated for a max 6ohm load, after driving the 4ohm nexus II pretty hard for a while the front left channel eventually started showing signs of a failing transistor driver, so I got onto gumtree and found myself a mint Marantz SR5007, $430. So here's how it sits now. My next upgrade will be a better tv, just waiting for my tax return to be sorted and my rego to be paid. Not bad for less than $1000.
  19. Hi guys I have a Marantz PM450 console amplifier, the one that accommodates 2 turntables with a fader knob to select between them. It became known as the Party Amp! Unfortunately, the right channel is distorted and sounds like the speaker is playing under water. I've tested the speakers and cables and they are fine. I've cleaned all the pots and re-soldered the 4 transistors under the big heatsink, but this hasn't fixed the issue. The issue appears when playing turntables, tuner and tape and affects the right channel of both A and B channels. I would be grateful for any pointers on how to go about resolving this. Thanks

  21. Item: Marantz Model 104 AM/FM Tuner Location: Williamstown, Victoria Price: $170 $100 Item Condition: Very good Reason for selling: NLR Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only Extra Info: Now priced at new lower price! Grab it before I change my mind!!! Well what can I say... except that it's a thing of beauty. You know the saying, they just don't make 'em like they used to. Well that goes for this classic Marantz tuner. Had it running last night and it has a warm sound while casting a wide soundstage with lots of detail. I was surprised how good it sounds. Haven't listened to it for ages and my system has improved dramatically since I bought this tuner. It's in great condition considering its age. A few light marks on top and a couple of small bumps in the top edge of the fascia, but not really noticeable unless you're looking for it. Most importantly, all the lights on the display work, including the needle which is used for tuning. This would look great on your equipment rack next to other classic Marantz gear, or a nice tube setup! Pictures:
  22. Marantz has released their new model AV7702 and AV8802 av processors here for 2015, now while might deceptively look like just a refresh to include the new 3D audio formats and latest HDMI and 4k capability, it appears that audio wise they have had more than a refresh as well. more like a re design. noticed this page here, with couple of D&M group presentations that run through what has been done with these new models http://www.soundvideo.com/2015/01/29/the-new-marantz-av-8802-av-7702-atmos-comparisons/ the page suggesting audio wise the 7702 is steps ahead than the 8801 even ! now no surprises the basis of the marantz processors is the denon cousins. the back plates for instance exactly the same. but still none the less it appears marantz has gone to some effort this time around audio wise. exciting times if wanting to buy a marantz av processor...with the av8801 on run out at close to 50% off rrp. a nice processor in itself and best can buy from the D&M group right now. but if wait soon the av8802/av7702 will arrive...though goodness for potential buyers I do hope qualifi the local importer is kind and doesn't carried away with a dollar heading south and all though if any indication looks like west coast hifi in WA already have them on their website and sharply priced ! http://www.westcoasthificannington.com.au/Brands/Marantz.aspx
  23. Item: Marantz SA7001 SACD player Location: Southwest Sydney Price: $250 (will donate $50 to SNA when sold) Item Condition: Should be pretty good! Reason for selling: Moving house Payment Method: Pickup - Cash only Extra Info: This player has been sitting dormant for the last 3 years. I'd not be able to test it fully as I'm equally unsure if the accompanying amplifier and speakers are working. I could test the headphone playback though, but can only do so when I'm back next Tuesday (6 Nov) (currently residing in Singapore). If you don't mind, perhaps you can drop by with a working amplifier/speakers to test? I will also try to test it when I'm back. I'd only be back in Sydney for a week, and that's why I thought I'd post it as an "EOI" now. It was playing flawlessly the last time I used it (3 years ago). I really hope it's still in the same pristine condition! Pictures:
  24. Hi Yesterday I was indulging in my regular afternoon of disc spinning. Inspired by Currently Spinning I gave the DBT A Southern Rock Opera a good airing (read play it loud) given the bride was out shopping. Act 1 went off without a hitch. Put on Act 2 listening through to the tragic ending. Wife arrived home so out I went to bring in the shopping, on return to the CD player I pressed eject..... no CD. Thought I must be having a Seniors moment. Retraced the steps.... no CD. Put another in the tray and it played. Did my head in. Not long after had to go out but it had me puzzled. Got out up this morning determined to get to the bottom of it. Now me and screwdrivers or any tools for that matter do not have a good relationship so it was with some trepidation that I set to work on the Pearl Lite and endeavoured to see if my mind was in tact or if I was already on the slippery slope! What did it reveal....... Yes in in the immortal words of Ms Chaberlain “this thingo ate my CD!” Now that I know that I wasn’t going mad, has this happened to anyone here before? I have owned the Marantz from new for nearly four years without any problems. It is a great player for discs and as a dac and I love the sound. Anyway now where did I leave my glasses?
