  1. Hi everyone, it's been a while since I have posted, however I recently purchased a marantz cd5005 cd for $50 in silver which had a laser pick up issue, it wasn't reading any discs, but I purchased it mainly because if this player could be repaired, it would be one of the best bargains for me. Note: I didn't take pictures of everything that I did, but hopefully you get what I did. Dismantling the player was the player and disc mechanism was the easy part. Getting the new laser mech ready for installation. As per instructions of most Sanyo laser mechanisms that I know of, the two short circuit contact points outlined in the picture above, out of the box are generally soldered together, once the assembly was done I made sure that the 16 pin ribbon cable was connected first before desoldering the short circuit contact so that it looks like the picture above where you can see two contact points. Then I just assembled everything back together ready for testing. And it's all working well, I used headphones to test the sound and is all working well with no need for further adjustment on the little pot for the laser. All put back together ready to play. The main problem was that the original laser mech had laser had gone off which I later found out was due a shredded bit of the circuit on the side of the laser mech which tells me that the player had been opened up before. But now that the player is fixed, it will be in my system for many years to come.
  2. Further information: I have had this amp from brand new. Purchased locally from Colin Whatmough when they were in Scoresby it’s a great amp In mint condition that I have used sparingly over the past few years. Makes an awesome 2 channel set up. It works beautifully and really is in unmarked mint condition I don’t think I have the original box but will take a look under the house for it in any event if there is interstate interest I can easily package it up and pack’n’send it at buyers cost I found this information on the amp ...... With a reputation for excellence extending back more than 50 years, Marantz has long been known for their premium high-fidelity audio components built primarily for connoisseurs. Now, even music lovers on a budget can enjoy legendary Marantz sound thanks to the PM7001 integrated amplifier. 3. I'm just enquiring as to which would be best suited overall for running to my Audio Monitor Silver 500 Floorstanders? I know there are several factors involved but general opion & advice would be gratefully received. Thanks in advance.
  4. This pre amp was used by me for a short while with my Elektra Theatre Power Amp (this has Balanced / XLR outputs) it was purchased locally from klapp audio. it has sat in the rack unused for a long time because I upgraded to the Marantz AV 8802a it is in perfect condition - albeit a bit dusty I was going to use it in my second system but ended up going with a Denon integrated as a pre and power to watch the News and cartoons although pretty cool is kind of over kill and not WAF - already the remote collection is a topic of frequent high level discussion ..... I can plug it in and switch it on but I can assure you it’s faultless. i have all original packaging and can post at buyers cost but hopefully someone local can use it and come and pick it up Thanks Photos: Advertisements without photos of the actual item will not be approved.
  5. Further information: Marantz PM-KI Ruby Ken Ishiwata Signature Reference Integrated Amplifier in GOLD This is one set Brand New Marantz PM-KI Ruby Ken Ishiwata Signature Reference Integrated Amplifier in Gold Panel. MADE IN JAPAN in 230V. Marantz PM-KI Ruby Ken Ishiwata Signature Reference Integrated Amplifier Marantz has been designing and making amplifiers for more than 65 years, and for 40 of those the products have reflected expertise of Ken Ishiwata. Now, to mark his four decades with the company, the PM-KI Ruby amplifier has been developed and tuned by a highly experienced engineering team led by KI himself. . Features a fully discrete two-stage design with separate power supplies for the pre-amplifier and power amp — plus, a moving coil/moving magnet phono stage complete with Marantz Musical Premium Phono EQ circuit and Marantz HDAM technology for signal purity and exceptional audio quality. PM-KI Ruby is built on a vibration-resistant double layer chassis with thick aluminum panes for rigidity and features a laser-engraved Ken Ishiwata signature to commemorate his legacy. Key Features Engineered and extensively tuned legendary Marantz sound master Ken Ishiwata and his team, drawing on more than 65 years of Marantz amplifier design knowledge Marantz high-resolution preamplifier stage with proprietary HDAM technology Switching power amplifier design derived from flagship PM-10 amplifier Generous output: 100W 100W (into 8ohm), 200W 200W (4ohm) Fully-discrete, two-stage design for signal purity, with separate power supplies for preamp and power amplifier sections to reduce interference Toroidal transformer dedicated to preamp for clarity and powerful sound Current feedback design with newly-developed wide-range circuitry HDAM® SA3 circuitry for clean signal and optimal dynamics MM/MC Phono input with new discrete Marantz Musical Premium Phono EQ circuit Thick nickel-plated copper independent input terminals for CD and Phono, plus Marantz-original high-quality/high-purity copper-plated speaker terminals Linear volume control with new electric volume system High-quality construction with double-layer chassis, 5mm thick aluminum top lid, solid aluminum front and copper-plated chassis High-grade, carefully selected audio parts: ultra-low leak current Schottky diodes, low noise complementary transistors, high-grade resistors, newly developed custom electrolytic capacitors, audio grade film capacitors and mica capacitors. Laser-engraved Ken Ishiwata signature and Ruby motif, marking Ishiwata’s 40-year Marantz legacy Celebrating 40 Years of Passion Designed to celebrate the 40-year anniversary of legendary Marantz sound master, Ken Ishiwata, PM-KI Ruby features pinnacle performance that’s synonymous with Marantz excellence. Complete with thoughtful engineering, painstaking tuning and extensive listening sessions, PM-KI Ruby achieves the elevated output worthy of its name. Elegantly shows Ishiwata’s laser-engraved signature to commemorate the design and heightened listening experience that honors the decades-long partnership between him and Marantz. Extensive Sound Tuning Led by Ken Ishiwata’s extensive, meticulous approach to tuning, the larger Marantz engineering team applied more than 65 years of experience and HiFi knowledge to create PM-KI Ruby, resulting in a final product that is a testament to Ken Ishiwata and the Marantz legacy. Marantz HDAM Technology Marantz developed its own discrete circuit boards called Hyper-Dynamic Amplifier Modules, or HDAMs, to replace the chip-based amps used elsewhere. Using discrete surface mount components with short mirror-image left and right signal paths, HDAMs outperform the regular integrated Op-amps dramatically in Slew Rate and noise level. The result is much more dynamic, accurate and detailed sound. Over the years, Marantz has developed different HDAMs to fit the particular requirements of players and amplifiers. The PM-KI Ruby uses the latest high-grade SA3 version. Combined with optimized circuit design layout and carefully selected components, the PM-KI Ruby provides exceptional sound quality and performance. Marantz Musical Premium Phono EQ Designed to deliver optimal sound quality by simplifying the signal path, the Marantz Musical Premium Phono EQ stage in the PM-KI-Ruby amplifier can be used with both moving magnet and low-output moving coil cartridges, thanks to a built-in MC head amplifier. Distortion is reduced by using two-stage amplification in the phono stage, and Marantz HDAMs are combined with JFETs (junction gate field effect transistors) in the input stage, giving high input impedance. The exclusion of coupling capacitors further simplifies the design, reducing signal distortion and enhances signal purity. High Quality Volume Control Newly developed electric volume control uses the latest volume control IC to realize better channel separation, dynamic range and distortion-reduction, while retaining the operational feel of an analog volume control device. The amplifier employs new Marantz-designed electric volume control for high linearity and best-in-class channel separation. Current Feedback Amplifier Current Feedback amplification is a well-known, Marantz-original circuit technology, thoughtfully designed to match the requirements of Super Audio hi-res music for wide-bandwidth, high-speed reproduction. The impedance at the Current Feedback point is limited, generating a very low phase shift. Marantz Current Feedback amplifiers reduce the need for phase compensation by minimizing Negative Feedback (NFB). This simplifies the signal path and results in a high through-rate, excellent transient response and superb sonic transparency across the full bandwidth. Unlike conventional Voltage Feedback topology, Current Feedback also makes the power amplifier insensitive to difficult loudspeaker loads. Balanced Power Amplification Drawing on design elements of the PM-10, the PM-KI Ruby is built to leverage enhancements, maintain the purest possible sound and support the power needed to drive the most demanding speakers. The amplifier output stage of the PM-KI Ruby allows a large power output, delivering 2x100W into an 8ohm load, and easily copes with high-impedance speakers thanks to a 2x200W output into 4ohms. The amplifier module connects directly to the rear panel PCB on the PM-KI Ruby to maintain signal purity and sound stability. Pure Analog Design The purely analog design of the PM-KI Ruby contributes to its noise-reduction structure and clean build. Rather than build the DAC into the amplifier, which would add noise within the chassis, Marantz built the PM-KI Ruby without one and then implemented the DAC in the SA-KI Ruby Super Audio CD Player. This eliminated interference with the delicate analog signals passing through the amp, maintaining an analog environment that’s as pure and clean as possible. Carefully Selected Components Marantz has a steadfast reputation for choosing the best-possible components for its Premium Series products. The Marantz alternative to the “amplifier on a chip” IC components, the HDAM, is a miniature amplifier module built entirely of discrete components. Marantz engineers selected and optimized the HDAM through extensive listening in dedicated Marantz facilities in Europe and Japan. Extensive, painstaking and meticulous tuning has long been the secret of exquisite-sounding Marantz amplifiers. During the development stage, every part is carefully selected, tested and validated by Marantz audio engineers to ensure audio perfection every time you listen. Multiple Analog Inputs and Outputs In addition to phono and CD analog inputs, the PM-KI Ruby features two line-level inputs and two pairs of recorder input/output jacks that enable the connection of multiple sources and recorders. Use the PM-KI Ruby as a standalone stereo power amplifier for additional system configuration versatility with the included power amp input, or connect the PM-KI Ruby to an external power amplifier via the stereo pre-amp outputs.
  6. Further information: Purchased brand new in 2010. Was used as my main amplifier for 3 years before upgrading to a more powerful amplifier (for new speakers). Kept in storage in original box ever since, I intended to use it for a second system but with first child on the way I have decided to part ways with it. Brilliant 40Wpc (into 8 ohms or 55Wpc into 4 ohms) amplifier. 11. Hi All, A few years back I purchased a Marantz SR6011 AVR. I use this for my movies etc and am very pleased with it. I noticed when I purchased it that while being played a demo in the audition room that the OSD was able to show over the movie being played - ie, if turning up or down you could see this information on the TV screen, same thing with changing sound modes from DD to Stereo or whatever - the options were visible on TV screen not just the (small) window on the AVR. Hooked upto the AVR I have my Oppo 205 and TV via HDMI Connections are as follows. From the Oppo 205 I have the Main HDMI out running to the TV input HDMI 1. From the Oppo 205 i have the audio only HDMI running to the AVR BluRay input From the Marantz I have the monitor/ARC back to the TV HDMI 2/ARC *If i flick to HDMI 2 on the TV during a movie I can clearly see the AVR menu system, but its the ONLY way i can make some fine adjustments to movies and at that time I can only hear the movie and am viewing the Marantz menu system. Ultimately I'd like to be able to view the movie with the Marantz menu system overlayed. The Oppo has no problem showing the OSD during movies. I would prefer not to use ARC on its own for everything. This is why I have split up the HDMI inputs and use the BluRay input on the AVR. I also don't allow control to any device. If i want the AVR to turn on i'll do it manually, same with the TV and BluRay player etc Anyone got any suggestions on what have I done/set up wrong here? My understanding that running the Oppo to the TV and AVR via there HDMI options is peferctly fine as I am splitting the picture and audio signals and also gives me the option to watch a movie without the AVR if I want to. It's been like this since I set it up, so its not a major drama but I know there is a way I can get the OSD from the AVR to work on the TV and thought I might lean on the SnA community for assistance. cheers

  13. This pre-amp / processor requires very little introduction. Was Marantz flagship processor and supports the recent codec, such as DTS-HD MA and Dolby True HD. Has the ability to map height or width channels however it doesn't support the latest Atmos, Auto & DTS-X object sounds. I have the original box and Auddessy mic, remote is working, but isn't perfect, however I have always controlled the unit via Marantz App. Will serve someone looking for a great experience with surround / 2 channel sound not looking to move into the new object audio. Note supports both XLR and RCA connectivity which can be mixed based on your configuration. Also offers 2 channels for subwoofer connections and eq. I do have the original box, my preference is pickup, but will ship if new owner is willing to pay arrange / pay courier and take risk of shipping damage While I have requested $800 I would also be open to a straight swap for a panasonic DP-UB9000 4K player Photos:

  16. Further information: I picked this off another member not long ago (absolute gentlemen!) but after getting my Rotel RX-802 recapped it is 75% of what I need for the 5% of time I can listen to anything. I can verify that the reviews are accurate, this is a lush full sounding amp. The unit has a very premium look and feel. The controls are weighted and switching has a solid reassuring click that is oddly pleasurable. Copper chassis and just about the nicest speaker terminals I have ever seen are icing on the cake. Just asking for what I paid which I think was a bargain. Has manual and remote. Pick up is preferable. Photos:
  17. Hello everyone, Good day . I am new to stereonet. Looking for some recommendations for my stereo(40%)/HT setup(60%). Current setup: Klipsch RP 260F (L-R) Connected to TV. Looking to upgrade my AVR and add power amplifier. Looking for some recommendations. As klipsch are bright sounding speakers need to pair with Warm sounding amplifiers like Denon/Marantz I am looking to invest in something which will future proof for next 5 years at least. Thank you.

  19. G'day folks! New member and first post. 🙂 Picked up a Marantz 1060 and wanted your thoughts on suitability for restoration. Doesn't look like it's been messed about with so I'm guessing all components are original and more than a little tired! Currently the RH channel is dead and adjusting the VR does not shift the DC offset from 2.2mv. LH channel adjusted fine to 7.5mv. I'd really value your opinions on weak points in this amp and where to begin troubleshooting. Happy to recap and upgrade electrolytics but any other components I should look to change out immediately? I've a little experience with vintage Sansui but this is my first Marantz. I know the early Sansui AU series had an issue with noise transistors but I'm struggling to find articles on Marantz 1060 rebuilds. I'd rather not have to order a rebuild kit from the US as it would double the cost of my amp! Happy to source locally RS, Element 14 so if anyone has a rebuild parts list from these suppliers, that would be awesome. A couple of photos - fairly clean inside and have seen a lot worse! It's a lovely looking amp and from what I hear from 1 speaker, sounds warm but punchy. A big ask for my first post and grateful for any tips please. Cheers, Brad
  20. Marantz SR6012 vs Denon 4500 Looking forward to upgrade my AVR. Between above two AVR which has good hardware configuration? Currently using Denon 520BT for 3 years. Happy with the Sound signature. Thank you
