  1. Item: SHERBOURN PA 2-250 POWER AMPLIFIER Location:PORT MACQUARIE, NSW - MID NORTH COAST Price: $750 Item Condition: VERY GOOD 8/10 Reason for selling: NO LONGER REQUIRED - TOO MUCH GEAR Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, DEPOSIT Extra Info: Up for sale is my Sherbourn PA 2-250 power amplifier. For those who don't know, this was the predecessor of the very popular Emotiva XPA-2. 2 x 250w @8 ohms, 2 x 500w @4 ohms XLR and balanced inputs Trigger inputs and outputs Huge torodial power supply Weighs in at 22kg I was using this amplifier with a set of magnepan mg12's I recently rebuilt the frames and crossovers for. I was previously using a Harmon Kardon citation 12 for the Maggies with no compliants, but after the recent modifications , the Maggies dug that much deeper into the bass region that the HK was having a hard time, and got quite a bit warmer than it normally did when a bit of Dire Straits was played...... I found the Sherbourn had a very similar sonic signature to my lovely old HK, but boy could it dig lower without even a hint of breaking a sweat. So much so were the new crossovers, frames and amp working together that well that the lower register was at the point of being detrimental. I made the Maggies into a three way system, put the HK back into the system to cover the mid and top end, and run 2 x 12" sealed subs for the bottom end. And with that, the Sherbourn went back into the box. Would make a great home theatre front channel amplifier, stereo amplifier, or another Maggie owner wanting 500w x 2 @ 4ohms without breaking the budget ( or marriage ). Prefer local pick up as the weight is above some freight carriers limits, and once they know it's second hand audio gear, they won't cover for damage...... been there and done it a few times in the past.......unless you're wanting to pay hundreds of dollars extra ( TNT won't cover for loss ??? only damage ) My username on ebay is also rawcraftwood, so you can look on there for an indication of my feedback. I'm not a trader or seller of audio gear, I'm just like the rest of us, bitten by that darn upgradeitus bug......continually looking for that audio Nirvana. Fleabay is no longer what it used to be 5 years ago, too many crazy people......so I don't sell on there anymore. I have a few other amplifiers to list over the coming weeks....same thing, am happy with the current setup/s and no need to change anymore. I can put the funds to other projects. 4. Item: [FS] Sanders Magtech Stereo Power Amplifier (black) - under warranty (optional) Location: Inner Sydney Price: $4,000 + posting (one year warranty can be added for $250), $5,600 if bought with my Magnepan 1.7 - price is firm. Item Condition: 9.5/10 Reason for selling: downsizing Payment Method: Cash on pickup or PayPal (+3%) This very well known amplifier does not need much introduction. This particular unit was purchased from Bill Mclean (Sander's distributor in Oz) about four months ago and paid $4,500. It was purchased second-hand, but the first and only owner of this before me was in fact Bill Mclean himself. This used to be his personal power amplifier. I can prove this with my email exchange with Bill, or you can just give him a call. Importantly, Bill is happy to renew the warranty, which has just expired, for another year for additional $250 (Bill has confirmed that this would be transferrable to the new owner). So, in a nut shell, this amplifier is pristine and can be purchased with one year of warranty This is a end game amplifier, with a unique power supply that is said to be almost 100% efficient and whilst being a 900W (4ohm) class AB, it runs basically cold because there is no waste of energy. The sound is super transparent, very dynamic and punchy, and with the blackest background. It goes without saying that this will drive without effort any speakers ever produced. I used it with Magnepans 1.7 but can drive large electrostatic as well as low impedance dynamic speakers with ease. The specs are: Power (Stereo Version) 500 watts RMS per channel into an 8 ohm load 900 watts RMS per channel into a 4 ohm load Bandwidth DC through 100kHz Class of Operation Class AB Input Impedance 100K unbalanced, 1K balanced Input voltage required for full output 2.2 Volts Noise More than 110dB below rated output Gain 26dB THD Less than 0.01% Damping Factor Greater than 600 into an 8 ohm load Voltage Voltage is user selectable for use world-wide. All details here: http://sanderssoundsystems.com/products/amplifiers/magtech-amp Local pickup is preferred but can post as I have all the original packaging. Thanks! Pictures:
  5. Since upgrading from Magnepan 1.7's to the 20.7's I have had a hard time finding the right position to place them. Despite the 20.7's having the reputation of better bass response I have yet to experience any substantial gain in bass weight or slam. (There is a slight improvement but not what I was hoping for). The 20.7's have been run in for over 450Hrs and demonstrate superiority over the 1.7's in areas such as mid to high frequency response, detail, sound stage width and depth however the bass is making me feel underwhelmed. When I run REW sweeps of the room affected response of the 20.7's and compare them with sweeps I did of the 1.7's it appears the 20.7's have bigger frequency response swings and do not have as smooth a response as the 1.7's. I have moved them into a position that sounds best so far which is within 30cm of the 1.7's best position. This position was selected after a large number of sweeps in 10cm increments as having the smoothest response between 50Hz to 400Hz. The problem is the large dip at 68Hz and worse, the chunk missing from 120Hz to 200Hz. I can hear this missing chunk as a thinness in upper bass and lower mid-range affecting the timbre of voices and instruments operating in that frequency band. Here is a screen shot of the two responses. The Red line is the 1.7's and the Blue line the 20.7's. The plots are smoothed to 1/12th and the serious dips in response can be easily seen. The mic position is almost the same and does not appear to affect the response much below 200hz even if I move it +/- 1/2 a metre. The room has acoustic treatment such as corner traps, front wall and rear wall absorbers & diffusers and first reflection absorbers and sounded pretty good with the 1.7's. Dimensions in metres are 9.18L x 4.42W x 2.54H plus a 1.5 x 3m deep alcove at the back left side of the room. I would like to get the response to within/- 5dB in this band (50 - 400Hz) so clearly I have some work to do. I am however quite frustrated as I can't seem to work out where to go from here. Any help would be very appreciated! PS* I can't find any way of attaching the REW .mdat file to this post.
  6. Item: Magnepan 1.7 (relisted) Location: Richmond, Victoria Price: Item Condition: very good Reason for selling: I'm selling because of limited space, certainly not SQ. These are easily the best speakers I've owned. Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only Extra Info: You may have seen that i advertised these previously. They were sold but then withdrawn from sale when one speaker was damaged while moving them. To be safe I sent both to McLeans for inspection and repair. The bass ribbon/voice coils were replaced in both speakers and new socks were added. They now look and sound brilliant. I don't have space for them so they have to go. Audition invited for serious buyers. Pictures:

  9. Item: Magnepan MMG speakers Location: Blackburn North VIC 3130 Price: $800 + shipping cost Item Condition: Excellent Reason for selling: Itch Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal Extra Info: The Maggie is about 3 years old and I am the 2nd owner. Bought these from another SNAer 2 years ago and here is previous ad link(more nice pictures there): http://www.stereo.net.au/forums/topic/87987-sold-fs-magneplanar-mmg-speakers-can-freight-safely/ For those lazy to open the link (I am also lazy to write), I copy some details from there: -------------------------- They are flawless, in as new condition. I had some custom made Jarrah side trims made to replace the plain looking painted black ones. I just didn't like the original black ones and I reckon the Jarrah sides really smarten up the speakers. BTW the side trims weren't cheap. The internet is full of reviews of these speakers and from everything I've read they're ALL positive. They really are a lovely sounding pair of speakers. They present an ENORMOUS soundstage and give an amazingly accurate reproduction of music. They really are one of those speakers that when given space they really do disappear. They certainly aren't a bass heavy speaker but the bass they do have is nice and tight. -------------------------- I have been using them in a smoke & pet free room so far, so they are basically in the same condition with 2 years ago, but just have been burned in and have customer stands to raise them up about 15cm from the ground which get them an even better soundstage IMO. The original stands are still there and it's quite easy to swap between stands. Also worth to mention, the previous owner built a very robust box for shipping them to me and of course I have been keeping the box, so now I am very confident the maggie can be shipped to interstate buyer very safely. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions. Pictures:

  12. Item: PRICE DROP: Magnepan 1.7 + Hi-Fi Tuning Fuses + Custom Stands Location: Brisbane (local sale preferred) Price: $2,100 $1,900 Item Condition: 9/10 Reason for selling: Upgraded to Magnepan 20.7 Payment Method: Local Pickup Preferred - Cash, Postage (at buyers expense) - Paypal Extra Info: I am forsaking my beloved Maggies for their big, big brother and hope they will find a happy home in which to reside. I have priced them for a quick sale as the MG 20.7's have arrived. Finished in cherry oak and black covers they are fitted with Hi-Fi Tuning fuses and come with custom made stands which include proprietary vibration control footers similar in concept to Stillpoints footers. The stands/footers do make a valuable improvement to their world renowned performance though they can be removed if preferred. (Please note the carpet covered bricks are for local pickup only). There is ample information and reviews available on the internet for these wonderful speakers and I am sure any prospective buyer would be aware of their reputation. However if you haven't had a chance to read some reviews here are a few to start with. http://www.theabsolutesound.com/articles/magneplanar-17-loudspeaker-tas-205/ http://www.avguide.com/blog/magneplanar-17-first-listen http://www.enjoythemusic.com/magazine/equipment/0511/magnepan_mg_1_7.htm Pictures:
  13. Item: Magnepan MG 1.5 QR Location: Rowville VIC Price: $1200 Item Condition: Very good, etc - see pics. Reason for selling: Fund new purchase Payment Method: Pickup - Cash Extra Info: I imported these from the US some years ago, they've only been played a handful of times. They were in original oak (and fading) and grey cloth, quite a dated look for this model. I bought new black cloths from Magnepan, and a friend did 5 coats of gloss black for the frame. I think it looks way sexier than the original scheme. It's been a while and I don't think I have the original bolt on legs anymore. I hammered up some stands where you can easily just lift them in and out of a 'holster'. Super easy. Don't get me wrong, NOTHING vanishes like these maggies do, vocals are incredible. But I'm a conventional speaker kind of guy and they've just been sitting unused. Auditions welcome and encouraged, there is nothing quite like a planar. Pickup preferred, but I will drop it off at a pack'n'send or courier of choice. I do not have the expertise to pack these safely for transit. Pictures: .
  14. I understand that his topic has been dealt with extensively, however there is question that I cannot find an answer to. Magnepans are known to like high current amplifiers. I am sure high current air a good thing when playing at loud levels, but would the high-current capability make any significant difference at low to medium volumes? With my maggies, I have owned several amplifiers, some of which had very high current, some not so much. However I have never noticed massive differences in sound when playing at low volumes. What is your experience? Thanks
  15. Item: Magnepan MMG Location: Canberra Price: $800 firm Item Condition: 8/10 due to stand mod Reason for selling: Funds for bills and gear Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal (friend or add 3%) Extra Info: I am the second owner of the speakers. The previous owner had them for 3 years (so they are the newest revision) and I've had them for only a month or so. Although quite directional, they have an amazing sound especially with voices and acoustic music, but the lack of bass has been hard to deal with. It is there but obviously not like my Monitor Audio Silver s6 and due to needing a second car, I cannot afford to buy the DWM to pair with them. Hence the sale. Happy to audition these for interested people. Edit: Forgot to mention that I am happy to trade for a tube amp, decent headphones or other speakers at around the same price.
  16. Item: Magnepan 1.7 with gold fuses Location: Inner Sydney Price: 2,500 firm Item Condition: 9/10 Reason for selling: toddler Payment Method: Pickup only - Cash or COD (no boxes, no postage) Extra Info: I am in love with these speakers, and my wife is too. The white cloth makes them disappear in the room. I keep them against the wall and slide them off for critical listening. The soundstage is wide and tall and deep as you would not believe. The detail is impressive. The bass with this model is tight and well defined. They come with the (stupidly expensive) gold fuses which are much better than the standard ones. I never thought I could think of selling these but my 10 months old son seems to like them too. Let me add that: - the white colour really has a wow factor and your wife/partner/friends will love it - you will not need a super powerful high-current amp to make these sing. I had them on a NAD Power envelope 2100 and they sounded SWEET. But if you do want to get the extra kick out of them - without doing laborious structural modifications - I am also selling a pair of Speltz Zero Autoformers (boxed version, in cherry colour), which is what Bill McLeans recommends to improve the kick of Maggies (in fact he is now retailing the Autoformers himself). The Autoformers are on a separate AD but happy to make a package deal with the Maggies. Pictures:
  17. Item: Magnepan 1. 7 Location: Richmond, victoria Price:WITHDRAWN Item Condition: very good Reason for selling: have made changes to my study and just don't have the space anymore. Payment Method: Pickup - Cash only Extra Info: No boxes so pick up only.
  18. Item: Magnepan MG12 Location: St Kilda, Melbourne Price: $1000 Item Condition: Excellent Reason for selling: Upgrading Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only Extra Info: Expression of Interest at this stage. These need little introduction, amazing sounding speakers and have the highest wife acceptance factor of any I've owned - funnily enough I'm in trouble for wanting to sell them! If there are better sounding speakers for a grand i'd like to know about them.. Can provide more detailed pictures on request. http://www.magnepan.com/model_MG_12 http://www.magnepan.com/review_MG12_by_Wayne_Garcia Pictures:
  19. I have Magnepan 1.7. I love them and don't have any intention of going back to boxes. But — yeh, yeh, I know — I would like a bit more bass. I was an unbeliever when it came to subwoofers. They invariably seem to clog up clarity and space with an amorphous bass sludge — and as I prize these qualities I've refused to consider a sub. Okay, I'm an ignorant fool. An hour is a long time in hi fi and @@andyr's magnificent set up has convinced me that subs can not only be quite acceptable but bl@@dy wonderful. So, I'm after a simple solution: a good musical sub (preferably used) that will give me clean bass depth (it doesnt have to be bottomless) without detracting from the Maggies tight rhythmic qualities or magic transparency. Not interested in crashing planes, colliding trains or exploding bombs. For music only — all kinds of stuff: Monteverdi, Purcell, Coltrane, Davis, Mingus, radiohead, Indian & middle east — but not pop or metal. I'm in a smallish room: 3.3 metres x 4.3 metres, 3 metre ceilings. Any suggestions? @@djb
  20. Was just looking at the Hypex website and noticed they're now selling their own NC400 kit form mono blocks. Rough estimate once posted and slugged with duties and tax I would guess these to be around $2500 landed. I've been using these same amps for over a year now and think they're fantastic value. Drives my Magnepan .7's with ease and some little power hungry Kefs I have too. Would be a perfect match for the LS50 me thinks. https://www.hypexshop.com/DetailServlet?detailID=7616
  21. Given the interest in the various types of panel speakers and what seems to be their growing popularity is it possible to start a sub forum for these? I know they exist on other international hifi sites so would be very handy to have an SNA one for us down under flat earthers. Any thoughts or suggestions? Is it asking too much? @@Marc
  22. Hi, Next month I'll be moving to Germany and will most likely be shipping my Magnepan 1.6 speakers (unless somebody makes a good offer on my EOI). Has anybody had any experience with shipping this type of speakers? Thanks Daniel
  23. Item: Magnepan MMG Location: Clayton, VIC Price: SOLD Item Condition: Very good. Reason for selling: My Dyns are really finding their feet and the MMGs aren't getting used much. Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, bank deposit Details: I bought these wonderful speakers off vmhf last year to try something new, and they have been somewhat of a revelation. The sound of panel speakers is unlike anything I've heard from conventional box speakers before. The best way to describe it would be to say that things "just sound real". Voices sound like voices. Strings sound like strings. Transients are dealt with effortlessly and with seemingly no delay. Bass response is compromised if you're used to floorstanders, but what you do get is incredibly agile and full of tone. They do like a powerful amplifier driving them; so keep that in mind. The MMGs are available in Australia for $1099 before shipping, so this is a great opportunity to try a pair in fantastic condition at a good discount. I have both original boxes so shipping is an option. Demos and inspections are also welcome.
