  2. Item: Magnepan 1.7 with gold fuses Location: Inner Sydney Price: 1,800 , or 5,600 if bought with my Sanders Magtech amplifier Item Condition: 9/10 Reason for selling: downsizing Payment Method: Pickup only - Cash or COD (no boxes, no postage) Extra Info: These do not need much presentation. Simply the best speakers I have found in a few years of auditioning below the 10k mark. LET ALONE AT THIS PRICE. Happy to demonstrate at my place. I am in love with these speakers, and my wife is too. The white cloth makes them disappear in the room. I keep them against the wall and slide them off for critical listening. The soundstage is wide and tall and deep as you would not believe. The detail is impressive. The bass with this model is tight and well defined. They come with the (stupidly expensive) gold fuses which are much better than the standard ones. Let me add that: - the white colour really has a wow factor and your wife/partner/friends will love it - you will not need a super powerful high-current amp to make these sing. I had them on a NAD Power envelope 2100 and they sounded SWEET. However I am also selling my Sanders Magtech, which is the best amplifier for these speakers. - I might decide to sell also my two REL T5s with these, depending on interest from buyers Pictures:
  3. Item: [FS] Sanders Magtech Stereo Power Amplifier (black) Location: Inner Sydney Price: $4,000 + posting + paypal fee (if required) Item Condition: 9.5/10 Reason for selling: downsizing Payment Method: Cash on pickup or PayPal if posted (+3%) This is an end-game audiophile reference power amplifier designed and made in the US by Roger Sanders, who is of the most well known audio engineers in the US. This amplifier has received many awards, including:- 2014 Golden Ear (The Absolute Sound)- 2014 Editors Choice (The Absolute Sound)This amp incorporates a unique power supply, designed and licensed by Roger Sanders, that produces extremely high current (to drive absolutely any loudspeaker, including very difficult loads such as planar speakers) without wasting energy like all powerful class AB amplifiers do. In fact, this amp runs stone cold and as you can see the top cover has no openings (not needed). Rogers Sanders maintains that the Magtech can be kept on all the time, and even located in a closed cabinet with no issues. It is capable of putting out 500W (in 8ohm) and 900W (in 4 ohm) and is stable in 2 ohm. It was designed to drive large electrostatic speakers, as as such will drive ANY speaker with ease. The reviews from top audiophile magazines such as the Absolute Sound describe this amp as providing "infinite power with total stability", and plaude its sound for its "neutrality, purity, background quiet and dynamics".I invite you to read the enthusiastic reviews online. It retails for $7,490 in Australia.More details can be found here:http://sanderssoundsystems.com/products/amplifiers/magtech-amphttp://www.mcleans.info/shop/productDetails.do?productId=200199 This particular unit was purchased from Bill Mcleans (Sander's distributor in Oz) about five months ago and paid $4,500. It was purchased second-hand, but the first and only owner of this before me was in fact Bill Mcleans himself. This used to be his personal power amplifier, the one he had at home. Bill gave this to me in exchange of a previously purchased amp that I returned to him. I can prove this with my email exchange with Bill, or you can just give him a call. Importantly, Bill is happy to renew the warranty, which has expired in November, for another year for additional $250 (Bill has confirmed that this would be transferrable to the new owner). The sound is transparent, very dynamic and punchy, and with the blackest background. Dont take my word for it, check out the reviews. The specs are: Power (Stereo Version) 500 watts RMS per channel into an 8 ohm load 900 watts RMS per channel into a 4 ohm load Bandwidth DC through 100kHz Class of Operation Class AB Input Impedance 100K unbalanced, 1K balanced Input voltage required for full output 2.2 Volts Noise More than 110dB below rated output Gain 26dB THD Less than 0.01% Damping Factor Greater than 600 into an 8 ohm load Voltage Voltage is user selectable for use world-wide. All details here:http://sanderssoundsystems.com/products/amplifiers/magtech-amp Local pickup is preferred but can post as I have all the original packaging and paperworks. Thanks!
  4. Since upgrading from Magnepan 1.7's to the 20.7's I have had a hard time finding the right position to place them. Despite the 20.7's having the reputation of better bass response I have yet to experience any substantial gain in bass weight or slam. (There is a slight improvement but not what I was hoping for). The 20.7's have been run in for over 450Hrs and demonstrate superiority over the 1.7's in areas such as mid to high frequency response, detail, sound stage width and depth however the bass is making me feel underwhelmed. When I run REW sweeps of the room affected response of the 20.7's and compare them with sweeps I did of the 1.7's it appears the 20.7's have bigger frequency response swings and do not have as smooth a response as the 1.7's. I have moved them into a position that sounds best so far which is within 30cm of the 1.7's best position. This position was selected after a large number of sweeps in 10cm increments as having the smoothest response between 50Hz to 400Hz. The problem is the large dip at 68Hz and worse, the chunk missing from 120Hz to 200Hz. I can hear this missing chunk as a thinness in upper bass and lower mid-range affecting the timbre of voices and instruments operating in that frequency band. Here is a screen shot of the two responses. The Red line is the 1.7's and the Blue line the 20.7's. The plots are smoothed to 1/12th and the serious dips in response can be easily seen. The mic position is almost the same and does not appear to affect the response much below 200hz even if I move it +/- 1/2 a metre. The room has acoustic treatment such as corner traps, front wall and rear wall absorbers & diffusers and first reflection absorbers and sounded pretty good with the 1.7's. Dimensions in metres are 9.18L x 4.42W x 2.54H plus a 1.5 x 3m deep alcove at the back left side of the room. I would like to get the response to within/- 5dB in this band (50 - 400Hz) so clearly I have some work to do. I am however quite frustrated as I can't seem to work out where to go from here. Any help would be very appreciated! PS* I can't find any way of attaching the REW .mdat file to this post.
  5. Item: Magnepan 1.7 (relisted) Location: Richmond, Victoria Price: Item Condition: very good Reason for selling: I'm selling because of limited space, certainly not SQ. These are easily the best speakers I've owned. Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only Extra Info: You may have seen that i advertised these previously. They were sold but then withdrawn from sale when one speaker was damaged while moving them. To be safe I sent both to McLeans for inspection and repair. The bass ribbon/voice coils were replaced in both speakers and new socks were added. They now look and sound brilliant. I don't have space for them so they have to go. Audition invited for serious buyers. Pictures:

  10. Item: Magnepan 1.7 with gold fuses Location: Inner Sydney Price: 2,500 firm Item Condition: 9/10 Reason for selling: toddler Payment Method: Pickup only - Cash or COD (no boxes, no postage) Extra Info: I am in love with these speakers, and my wife is too. I never thought I could think of selling these but my 10 months old son seems to like them too. Let me add that: - the white colour really has a wow factor and your wife/partner/friends will love it - you will not need a super powerful high-current amp to make these sing. I had them on a NAD Power envelope 2100 and they sounded SWEET. But if you do want to get the extra kick out of them - without doing laborious structural modifications - I am also selling a pair of Speltz Zero Autoformers (boxed version, in cherry colour), which is what Bill McLeans recommends to improve the kick of Maggies (in fact he is now retailing the Autoformers himself). The Autoformers are on a separate AD but happy to make a package deal with the Maggies. Pictures:

  12. Hi All, I'm thinking of buying some Magnepan speakers and the MMG is on my curious list. Are there any MMG owners in Melbourne who might allow me to have a quick listen to see if the MMG's will float my boat? I've heard the 1.7's and the newer i version so I know the sound but I'd like to hear the MMG. I have various speakers from Tannoy and Kef as well as other gear I can bring for the fun of it if that is of interest. Cheers, Legs11
