Stepping out of vinyl for good.. and hifi.. AP means Australian pressing, and the rest is self explanatory! Will not split, as I want the lot sold in one lump. 5. Item: Denon HA-1000 MC step up phono amp Location: Sydney Price: $490 Item Condition: very good, see notes Reason for selling: surplus Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only Extra Info: A classic highly regarded MC step-up device giving you two selectable settings of 24dB and 32dB gain. The power supply feeds the unit with DC current and it can be located quite separately, having a lengthy lead attached. The MM setting, as opposed to the MC, is actually a straight pass-through with no gain, so this unit is intended for use with amplifiers that have an inbuilt MM phono stage but require top quality MC step up performance. I've used it with my Audio Research SP14 pre-amp which has a valve MM phono stage and done some semi-professional LP transfers using that combination - the client (who was formerly the owner of a direct-to-disc record company) has been well pleased with the results. I'm scaling back my LP gear a little (now down to three t/t), and this unit can go to a new discerning owner, as I have other devices. Postage can be arranged (with signature and insurance) - ask me about costs. Free delivery in Hills District or nearby. Pictures:

  10. Item: Beethoven Piano Sonatas complete box set 13LP, Alfred Brendel Location: Sydney Price: $110 plus postage, $11 Sydney Metro, $18 rest of Australia Item Condition: Very Good. The box has some marks but the LPs are very good. Reason for selling: Gradually reducing my large holding of LP Payment Method: Cash, Paypal, Direct Deposit Extra Info: The 1978 set of 32 sonatas on Philips, lovely sound. Arguably the best set of those done by Brendel, and my personal favourite - he did a later digitally recorded set for Philips, and a much earlier set for budget label Vox, before he became famous! A superb group of works, and still the mountain all serious performers wish to climb. I'm amazed that a number of them have been able to do the lot in a series of concerts, some doing them from memory! Pictures:
  11. Item: Thorens TD 180 turntable - see notes on condition Location: Sydney Price: $100 Item Condition: Generally very good including lid, no cartridge fitted. It has speed control issue particularly with 33rpm. I think 45 and 78 are close enough, but have not checked precisely, just taken a sample against the stopwatch! Reason for selling: Bought it a few years back intending to debug it as three speeds are handy to have - but I have several other t/t and this one is now surplus. Payment Method: Cash, Paypal, Direct Deposit Extra Info: I have a schematic which I can email. I think the speed control is governed by a resistor group, so that would be where to start the investigation. There's a spinning stroboscopic wheel and a light sensor which checks the platter speed. Also on ebay at this point in time, so if anyone's wanting it, let me know asap. It comes with a Thorens power supply which is mislabelled as 10V AC output when it is actually measuring 17V, close to the 16V specified and fine to use. Postage - can be arranged at buyer's expense and risk - turntables are always needing careful handling and there can be no guarantees on that score. I am, however, fairly experienced at packaging. Ask about freight charges to your location. Sydney Metro is flat rate at $11. Pictures:
  12. Item: Mozart String Quartets, complete on 9LP, Quartetto Italiano, with booklet. Location: Sydney Price: $80 plus postage $11 in Sydney Metro, $18 rest of Australia Item Condition: Very good Reason for selling: gradual culling of large LP collection Payment Method: Cash, Paypal, Direct Deposit Extra Info: This is a fine box set by a top group. They also did a very nice set of the Beethoven Quartets, one of the best, but just a smidgen on the pretty side. With Mozart they hit the exact marker. These are as good as you'll get of those works. As with the Beethoven series, the early ones are simpler than the middle and later ones, but all are wonderful. Mozart understudied the master of quartet writing, Joseph Haydn, who developed the form - as he did the symphony. These LPs have been in my care for a long time and are in very good condition - some may need some dust removal. I'm playing one as I write and it sounds great! Note: I have these and the Beethovens by this group on CD otherwise I'd not be parting with such a lovely set. Pictures:
  13. Item: NAD PP-1 MM phono stage (Pro-ject MM/MC phono stage SOLD) Location: Sydney Price: Nad $65, plus postage $11 Sydney Metro, $14 elsewhere in Australia. Item Condition: Both excellent, NAD is boxed. Reason for selling: too many phonos! Payment Method: Cash, Paypal, Direct Deposit Extra Info: The NAD will suit anyone wishing to connect a Moving Magnet (MM) cartridge on t/t to a line level input. Pictures:
  14. Item: Wagner Ring - full set 19LP in four boxes with librettos, plus the famous book about the recording project by John Culshaw, in hardback edition. Location: Sydney Price: $125 complete or $89 for the four box sets only Item Condition: Very good to excellent Reason for selling: Gradually culling my large LP collection. Payment Method: Cash, Paypal, Direct Deposit. Extra Info: These are old but good UK pressings Decca/London, in USA presentation. Condition is excellent, look hardly used. The big box is a bit the worse for wear but the LPs and the John Culshaw book have survived well. He was the recording engineer who first of all set up the studio in Vienna with Decca's technicians and ran the project. Recorders and desks were specially built for those sessions. The result was the finest recording of its day and it has survived in high regard until the present, partly because of that but also because the conductor and singers were of such high quality. The book alone if bought separately would cost you $50+ in s/h hardback, which this is. If you'd just like the four LP box sets then the price would drop to $99 plus postage, but the whole set is good to have. Postage: in Sydney Metro area $10, elsewhere ask for cost. Pictures:

  18. Item: 20 LP - Mostly Musicals Location: Sydney Price: $60 Item Condition: Very Good Reason for selling: Culling my collection Payment Method: Cash, Paypal, Bank Deposit Extra Info: Condition is generally very good indeed; some may need a bit of dusting/cleaning but I've inspected all and cleaned where most needed. Six of these are 2LP sets, so there are 20 discs in this batch. There are modern classics and older ones. Pickup can be done at Baulkham Hills. Postage $10 in Sydney Metro, $18 rest of Australia. Pictures:
  19. Item: 20LPs Mostly Film Soundtracks Location: Sydney Price: $60 Item Condition: Very good Reason for selling: Culling my collection Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only Extra Info: Condition is generally very good; some may need a bit of dusting/cleaning but I've inspected all and cleaned where it was most needed. Flashdance cover is damaged. Two of these (including Star Wars) are 2LP sets, so there are 20 discs in this batch. A lot of interesting music in there. Pickup can be done at Baulkham Hills. Postage $10 in Sydney Metro, $18 rest of Australia. Pictures:
  20. Item: Assortment of LPs, World Music Location: Sydney Price: $60 plus postage - $10 Sydney Metro, $18 rest of Australia Item Condition: Very Good, may need some dusting/cleaning. Reason for selling: gradual culling of large LP collection Payment Method: Cash, Paypal, Bank Deposit Extra Info: various countries represented. 21. Item: 25 LPs of Australian Jazz Location: Sydney Price: $50 Item Condition: Very Good Reason for selling: culling the LP collection Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only Extra Info: Some of the covers are a bit damaged (I had to repair the stupid cutout front panel on the George Golla) but most are fine, and the LPs themselves are very good, perhaps could use a bit of dust removal, but look nice and shiny the way we like our vinyl to look. Four of the albums are 2LP so there's 25 discs in all, plus a free bonus disc (sleeve but no outer cover) of the Ray Price Quintet doing an educational record of Australian jazz since WW1. Labels include EMI, ABC, Cherry Pie, Festival and Swaggie. Postage $10 Sydney metro, $18 rest of Australia - if I can sneak them into a 5kg satchel - it'll be close! Pickup Baulkham Hills 2153.
