  5. Item : Marten Mile 3 Speakers Location: Melbourne (northern burbs) Price: $xxx FIRM (Original RRP for speakers $18k). Can ship at buyers cost. Item Condition: Excellent. All boxes, manuals, accessories etc. Reason for selling: Downsizing home. Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only Extra Info: Comfortably the best speakers I've owned. I'm not selling to 'upgrade' (which I couldn't afford to do given how much you have to spend to get something better); rather am downsizing homes and getting out of the game. These partner equally well with tube and solid state amplifiers (I have used both). Over the years I have spent many hours inspecting a LOT of secondhand equipment on the market, and I feel this is an important point (especially at this price, which despite being excellent value, I know is not 'cheap'). When purchasing equipment, I have always shown extreme prejudice in making decisions around the condition of equipment. My HiFi philosophy is simple, buy superb gear in pristine condition, for an excellent price. People who purchase from me, benefit from this approach! Frequency range / 29-40000 Hz +-3dB Power rating / 250 W Sensitivity / 91 dB/w/m Impedance / 4 ohm (3.8 ohms min) Type / Ported system, port resonance 27 Hz Drive units / 2x7” ceramic, 1” ceramic Crossover frequency / Second order, 2800 Hz Terminals / Bi-wiring, heavy duty Internal wiring / Jorma Design Stands / Steel with steel spikes Dimensions (WxHxD) / 220 x 1160 x 320 mm (8.6” x 45.7” x 12.6”) Net weight / 30 kg (67 lbs) Pictures:
  6. Item: Large Custom Made Monitors Location: Waterview Heights, NE NSW Price: $2500 exc plinths, $2700 inc plinths Item Condition: Very good Reason for selling: Listening room not big enough Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only Extra Info: Purchased a few months back from Onebaldybloke and I love them. Don't want to sell them but nowhere to store them. My room is not quite long enough for these big buggers, am suggesting you need a 5m or longer room for these things to really shine. Width isn't hugely important unless you live in a glorified hallway. I reckon they need 1.5m to the side walls and 1m behind them to allow them to breathe their big accurate lungs and give gorgeous soundstage with a large sweet spot (sweet area?). Once you manage that, you wont need any other speaker, these speakers are as good as my Focal 1038Be's, just a different flavour. I prefer the Berylium tweeter of the Focals and the smaller cabinets allow me to have the Focals' further from the wall as they are not as deep through. The Scanspeak tweeter is very powerful and more forgiving of harsh recordings. It still has a lot of 'air' to it's sound, just a smidgen less than beryllium but again, not as harsh depending on quality of mastering. I replaced the cheap bi wire speaker terminals with ETI's speaker pods and it made them sound a good 20% better, IMO! When soldering, I allowed the terminal casing of one body to get hot and one slid slightly through it's thread casing but this has not affected anything, only aesthetics, see pictured. Rear ports top and bottom @ 90mm wide. Dimensions- 1540H X 480L inc grills X 330W Tweeter is 720 from the base of the speaker. Drivers- woofers- Vifa M26WR-09 top and bottom DÁppolito design. mid woofers- Vifa P13WH-00 above and under the tweeter, DÁppolito design. Tweeters- Scanspeak D2905/950000. Strongly suggest that if you are interested and your ears are higher than say 800mm when seated, you will need plinths, either mine or source/use your own. The speakers do not sound their best until the tweeter is at ear level. Then it all comes together and oh la la!! My learning curve is for all to see in my Darren69 stuff to date thread. Plinths sit at around 160mm high with adjustable feet on conical spikes with their own shoes, Herbies Gliders are not inc. Plinths are 500mm wide by 600mm long. They are solid ply coated with fine buffing oil and polished alloy corner protection. Aladdin's Transport lovingly delivered these speakers from Vic for $360 so please, no 'Oh God wish you were closer' posts (Malcolm at Aladdin's Transport- 0434376798) These should have sold for around 5k at least but because they are old-school monsters and we are a fickle, marketing driven mob, Bob sold these to me for $2750 and I pass on the savings. Bob guesstimates they would be around 10k's worth now and I agree and they would be a bargain at that. What I like about these speakers (and apparently it was part of the design brief) is they don't have that hi-fi signature sound of in-you-face-bordering-vulgar forward mid range. The whole sound is perfectly balanced. Built by a guy called Phil Routley circa 2001, I don't know who he is. To be Captain Obvious, in the right room (as with any speaker) these would be as good or better than my Focal 1038Be's. They do loud, the do imaging and they do soundstaging, they do the whole frequency range in excellent fashion. If they don't sell, the ports will be bunged up and they will go into storage at Bro's or Bro in laws and I will feel smug that I still own them, haha. One of the best bargains you will see here, very beautiful speakers as well. PM me if interested. Pictures:
  7. Item: Linn Majik Isobarik in rosenut Location: Sydney Price: $3000 + delivery costs if not picked up Item Condition: Excellent, apart from some minor marks on the base plate, and the one corner has a slight imperfection. (See pictures) Reason for selling: Moved towards a different colour and budget. Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Bank Transfer, PayPal (+$80) Extra Info: These go very deep and have low bass distortion due to the isobaric configuration. An omni-directional bass output makes the speaker less sensitive to placement. They would suit someone who wants a speaker for a larger room, or for both music and home theatre; you wouldn't need a sub woofer. They have the option to be upgraded either to active, or partially active. In partially active only the bass drivers are active, and could then be driven on a much smaller amplifier. In passive mode they can be quad amplified, with four separate binding posts per speaker. I have the original boxes and can ship, but they are heavy so you can pick them up yourself as well. Information from Linn: http://small.linncdn.com/product-catalogue/documents/Linn_Majik_Isobarik_Product_Information.pdf They went for $8795 before they were discontinued last year. The following are the actual speakers, except for the one with the side cut open.

  11. Looking for some advice on new speakers please. I thought I had it all figured out until I read an article on Darko's site by Srajan Ebaen http://www.digitalaudioreview.net/2014/02/kih-6-loading-the-room/%C2'> I've been saving up for some floorstanding speakers at around $3K, probably second hand. They will go in a surround system, but my real focus for sound quality is for two channel, not surround. I currently don't have a sub but am also looking to add one of those, probably about $1K, e.g. SVS SB2000. My room is about 7m x 5m x 2.7m (22x16x9 feet), with lots of hard surfaces and few opportunities for treatments. I have a young family, so moderate listening levels will be the reality 95% of the time. I listen to a wide range of music, but folk, rock, blues would be a good ball park. Using RRPs, one example might be Kef R500 ($3,700) vs. Kef R300 ($2,600) + SVS SB2000 ($1,000). So will I be more likely to get better sound from floorstanders or standmounts plus sub? Pros and cons of each set-up? Thanks Corey

  14. Item: Mission 734 floorstanders with Mission M7C2 centre Location: Melbourne, Vic Price: SOLD $250 for 734, $75 for M7C2 Item Condition: Good, including the grills. Reason for selling: Bought new speakers Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal Extra Info: 734 floorstanders I am the first owner, bought them late 90's. They have been amazing speakers and even when I started auditioning newer, more expensive speakers I kept being impressed at how well these competed. They are made in England and sound MUCH better than most later Missions. The mid-range is classic British, and sounds wonderful with both female and male vocals and also does a surprisingly good job with electronic music. They are a fairly warm sounding speaker and produce plenty of bass. The soundstage is probably the most impressive and unexpected feature at this level. The main port is at the front, so if you need to you can push them up against a wall and they still sound good. In late 2011 one of the cones cracked (common to this brand I'm told) so I had all four replaced by Speakerbits in South Melbourne at a cost of $330. Sourcing original cones was price prohibitive, so trainspotters will have noticed the black cones used differ from the lighter coloured originals. I couldn't notice a difference in sound quality. 8ohm, about 90dB sensitivity I think. I have run them with a Rotel RSX1056 AVR and it drives them easily. Size 840 x 204 x 335mm. M7C2 centre I bought this about seven years ago as it was the closest match I could find for the 734s. Since moving into a new house I haven't bothered putting up my rear speakers, and with my new fronts I've decided to stick with two-channel. Dimension 510 x 155 x 212mm. There is a box that was built to support the TV over the speaker which you can also have. It is 'black Japanese' colour, which matches the 'black-brown' of the Ikea entertainment unit. I can demo for interested parties. I do have the original boxes, but would prefer local pick-up for now. I also have a Denon two-channel receiver which could drive the 734s, but I haven't pulled it out of storage to take pics yet so haven't listed it yet. Pictures:

  18. Item: Linn Majik Isobarik in Rosenut Location: Sydney Price: $3900 $3800 $3700 $3600 $3500 (RRP $8795) + shipping costs Item Condition: Excellent, apart from some minor marks on the base plate, and the one corner has a slight imperfection. (See pictures) Reason for selling: I'd like to only have cherry or black gloss coloured speakers from now on. Also the bass is too strong for my room. Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Bank Transfer, Paypal (+2.6%) Extra Info: These go very deep and has very low bass distortion due to the isobarik configuration. They can sound a bit heavy in a room smaller than around 5m x 5m, but balance out in rooms around that size or bigger. An omni-directional bass output makes the speaker less sensitive to placement. They would also suit someone who wants a speaker for both music and home theatre; you wouldn't need a subwoofer. 19. Item: Sonus Faber Cremona (dark grey) Location: Kelvin Grove, Brisbane Price: $4,900 $4400 Item Condition: Excellent, see below Reason for selling: Need cash for other hobby Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only Extra Info: Original version, complete with dust covers and boxes. The grilles are made of elastic strings; however, these have lost their elasticity over the years and I do not use them (would be easy to restring though). Condition is very good, however a careless removalist managed to slightly dent the side of the left speaker (pictured). It is barely noticeable, but needs to be mentioned for full disclosure! The boxes are getting a bit old now, so would prefer local pickup. If you would like to arrange a courier, that would be fine so long as you accept responsibility for loss/damage/insurance, etc. If you have any questions, comments, etc then please PM - please do not post below, thanks. 23. Hi Guys, Im considering to help others to build DIY speakers. I dont have much talent on finishing other than some shellac and oil finish though. So dont expect wilson/sonus faber level of finishing So here is what i have now : 1. Makita Circ Saw with multiple guides ( 2 KREG and 1 Homemade ) 2. Makita RT0700CX Router with Jasper JIG 3. Compressor (Nail gun, stapler and possible sprayer if needed) 4. DATS (to measure impedance, phase and driver parameters) 5. Omnimic v2 (to measure and simulate passive XO) 6. Behringer ECM8000 calibrated by Cross Spectrum Labs (almost forgot this one ) I usually order my timber pre cut from supplier (birch ply from bruynzeel), and do fine adjustment upon building. Im not sure if this attract anyone, but im taking this opportunity to learn more about speaker building (or just say fine tuning with what i have learnt so far ) My previous project was (not all in Aussie ) : 1. alpair5 TL 2. Alpair10 FR in Pensil 3. Jordan JX92S in ML-TL designed collaborated by Greg Monfort and Jim Griffin. 4. OB with Beyma 12CX and dual 15" by Eminence Beta and Alpha (active in 600mm baffle width) 5. Alpair 10 Bass wide and Alpair 5 in BR 6. Satori, RAAL and Kappalite 3way 7. Exodus Anarchy Tapped Horn (built 4 of these) 8. SB17 and SB29 2way series XO 9. SB15 and SB29 in MTM series XO (2.5way) Im interested to help in the following project : 1. any project involving SB Acoustics drivers (as they have a very good price vs performance) 2. Econowave style (Large woofers with CD waveguides) 3. Line Arrays (as i have few prototype but not yet finished it) 4. PushPull SUB / Dual Opposed SUB 5. Bill Fitzmaurice's Horn Sub 6. Anything with Tapped Horn. 7. Active OB (could be H-frame, U-frame or even plain OB), i consider active, since we will need to deal with EQ and compensation, which is almost impossible to do with passive xo without extensive trial and error. The list above is something that i like to venture on and to get to know more about different types of speakers, but overall im open to experiement or not, if its just a kit. Item: Dali Ikon 7 (Mk1) Floorstanding Speaker (Black) Location: Brisbane, QLD Price: $1100 PRICE DROP $1000 plus freight (if required) Item Condition: Excellent condition Reason for selling: Upgraded and wife won’t let me keep 2 sets of floorstanders in the house. Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, Only Extra Info: RRP for these speakers was over $3k and JB Hifi have the mk2 currently for $3750. These are not to be confused with the Concept Series. The Ikon’s were hand made in Denmark and include the beautiful ribbon/soft dome tweeter combination along with 3 x 6.5 inch drivers. 4 out of 5 stars when reviewed by Whathifi as per the following link. http://www.whathifi.com/review/dali-ikon-7 I’m the original owner and as with all my hifi gear, they have been looked after with care. There is not a scratch or mark on either of the speakers. They came with 5 year warranty when new so you can purchase knowing that they are covered by this warranty until July 2014. I have the original receipts. I don’t have the original boxes anymore so would prefer local pickup but I’m happy to help coordinate shipping if arranged by the purchaser. If local, I’d be more than happy to demo the speakers. Let me know if you have any questions. Note that I’m planning on listing these on other sites later today, get in quick if you want to pick up some great speakers in excellent condition. Pictures:
  25. EOI for Monitor Audio GS 60 floorstanders. Santos Rosewood real wood veneer Original rrp I believe was close to $6k * Location- Melbourne Inner North * Item condition description- In excellent condition BUT a bass driver has several almost indiscernible dimples from a wayward small finger. It does not affect performance and is visible when close. In fact a friend pointed it out to me after I had bought them. I'll post photos when I get to it but do not be put off by this if you are looking for high quality speakers like these. They present beautifully, both sonically and visually. I bought these from Johns Hi Fi exchange late 2012 and they were sold with out the grilles so the listing is for the speakers only. They look stunning without the grilles and the quality and workmanship is highly evident. I partnered these with a Musical fidelity A5 but they are actually very easy to drive. * Price and price conditions- $2200 * Reason for selling- Restlessness and money for upgrade * Payment Methods: Cash - Pickup, Paypal or Australia Post COD * Extra Info: I prefer pick up only but can take to the nearest pack and send if delivery is required. Happy to audition them if convenient. The blurb from Monitor Audio http://www.monitoraudio.com.au/support/past-products/gold-gs/gs60/#/overview Developing the discrete cavity technology of the GS20, the four-driver GS60 recreates the deep bass and authentic scale of a performance, bringing lifelike power, dynamics and realism to music and film. Yet its tall, slender appearance is anything but overpowering. Like all models in the Gold Signature range, the flagship is a monument to the cabinet-maker's art: immaculate real wood or piano gloss finishes are blended with modern industrial design and superb attention to detail. Even if you think you've heard it all before, the GS60 will take your breath away. Anti-resonance build: driver held by innovative zinc alloy clamp system; traditional tongue and groove construction; extensive vertical and radial internal bracing. 6 1/2 inch die-cast aluminium chassis bass and bass-mid drivers featuring a new Rigid Surface Technology RST®II, C-CAM® alloy cone profile. A new 1" C-CAM gold dome tweeter extends high frequency performance to beyond 40KHz. HiVe®II port design: the new port technology uses a straight rifled construction to aid air flow and reduce turbulence. - See more at: http://www.monitoraudio.com.au/support/past-products/gold-gs/gs60/#/overview * Pictures Photos of actual speakers to follow soon sorry
