  1. I have played around with computer audio for a few years now and like many others, spent $$$ trying to perfect it. However I was always drawn back to the Accuphase DP-950 SACD spinner as a superior source . Recently I did some digging to see what was available from established, full range high-end audio companies to see if any had produced a top quality USB server. I came across the Esoteric N-03T , the only server that fit my criteria. It was launched in 2018 but for some reason hasn't been promoted ( or even stocked) in Australia so it slipped under the radar. Firstly , it is built from the ground up for the task at hand, it is not pc or NAS based. To quote Esoteric " The dedicated power supply for the network module also has an EDLC (Electric Double-layer Capacitor), a super-capacitor that has 1F (1,000,000μF) capacitance." I understand the N03-T is a DAC-less version of the Esoteric N0-1. It can either be used as a streaming server or you can source the music from an attached SSD. It is Roon Ready, and has built in support for Tidal, Spotify etc and internet radio. How does it sound? Amazing! I was encouraged by rave reviews translated from Japanese and upon first hearing it I understood the excitement. It has the lowest noise floor, better timing , pace, depth and imaging ofany other server I have come across. Overall the sound is as natural and with great depth. It hits the eating edge of notes extremely well - the PC based servers I am familiar with could sound amazing, but this is on another level altogether. I only used an attached SSD for music source, and I haven't had a chance yo setup network audio yet. I think the local Esoteric Distributors could sell a lot of these if only they knew what it was capable of.
  2. Our November club meeting is the last Sydney Audio Club for the calendar year. (We’ll be back January 21st 2018!) For November, we are very pleased to have Cameron Pope of Krispy Audio (http://www.krispyaudio.com.au/pages/About-Us.html) present. Cameron has presented to the Sydney Audio Club a few times before, each time bringing in something different and very musical. This time Cameron is bringing in another superb system based on the unusual and stylistic looking Oswald Mills Audio speakers and the Esoteric Grandioso K1 SACD/CD player. Details of the system…. Oswalds Mill Audio Minis. From Eastern Pennsylvania USA – a good read at the OMA story. Taken from Oswald Mill’s website… “The OMA Mini is a unique two way horn based speaker with the performance of speakers much larger. The OMA Mini enclosure is a 14 cube, and the speaker stands 57". More info at http://www.krispyaudio.com.au/products/Oswalds-Mill-Audo-Mini-.html and https://oswaldsmillaudio.com/mini Esoteric Grandioso K1 SACD player. Taken from Esoteric’s website… “The supreme Super Audio CD player reigning over all other single chassis models”. Features … VRDS-NEO VMK-3.5-20S; VS-DD* Spindle Servo Driver and Proprietary Toroidal Power Supply; Newly Designed Integrated Dual Monaural D/A Converters for the Ultimate in Quality; 35-bit D/A Processing for Outstanding Powers of Musical Expression; Esoteric-HCLD*1: Esoteric's Proprietary Current-Enhancing Output Buffer Circuit; USB Support for 11.2 MHz DSD, 384 kHz/32-bit PCM, and Asynchronous Transmission; High-Precision VCXO Clock. Thanks for looking. https://6moons.com/audioreviews/esoteric4/trio_2.html https://www.hifiplus.com/articles/hi-fi-plus-the-esoteric-p-03-sacd-playerd-03-dac/ Conclusion and a few quotes. The Esoteric P-03 and D-03 combination are simply state of the art, both in picture and in sound quality. I was shocked at how good 480p video from DVD could look. For the music lover, the Esoteric pair delivers world-class sound quality from CD, SACD, and DVD-Audio. Indeed, it is among the best digital playback I’ve heard, regardless or price. Moreover, the interior build quality and chassis metalwork are drop-dead gorgeous. These are among the most lavishly designed and executed products I’ve encountered in 17 years of reviewing high-end audio gear. Can any “DVD player” be worth thirty grand? Experience the Esoteric P-03 and D-03 for yourself and you just might be surprised by your answer. https://www.theabsolutesound.com/articles/esoteric-p-03-and-d-03-universal-disc-transport-and-dac-1/ Very few products can lay claim to being unquestionably the best in the world. In any field there are always several candidates for the stateof- the-art, with experts disagreeing based on personal preference or varying perspectives. Heck, even Ferrari has competition. One product, however, that has no peer is the vibration-free rigid disc-clamping mechanism (VRDS) found in disc players from Esoteric, the high-end division of Teac. Although all players have a transport mechanism to spin the disc and read the data encoded on it, the similarity between the flimsy plastic mechanisms of mass-market machines and VRDS ends there. The Esoteric VRDS Neo mechanism, used in the P-03 Universal Transport reviewed here, is a tour de force in mechanical design and manufacturing. The massive machined assembly has one purpose—to read information from the disc with the highest precision possible (see sidebar for details). The P-03 is a truly universal device, compatible with CD, DVDVideo, DVD-Audio, and SACD (SACD and DVD-A in 2-channel mode). Note, however, that the P-03 is a transport, not a disc player. This means it has no integral digitalto- analog converters; you must convert the P-03’s digital output to analog in you’re A/V controller (or receiver), or with a standalone digital-to-analog converter, such as Esoteric’s D-03, also reviewed here. There are many compelling reasons to think of the P-03 universal transport and D-03 digital-to-analog converter as one product in two chassis. The two create a synergy, allowing each product to fully realize its potential. For example, the D-03 digitalto- analog converter outputs a precision clock to which the transport is slaved. This technique greatly reduces clock jitter (timing errors in the conversion of digital data to an analog waveform) as a source of sonic degradation. The P-03/D-03 pair has, in my experience, the most sophisticated technology and feature-set for playing CD and high-resolution discs. The combination offers upsampling of standard-resolution audio (CD), along with a variety of ways to convert digital bits into music. 15. Item: Esoteric Flagship Grandioso P1 with Power supply, Dual D1 DACs 4 Piece Stack Location: Brisbane Price: $44,000.00 ( Half of Retail price at $88,000.00 ) NOW: $41,000.00 Item Condition: Absolutely Mint Reason for selling: Surplus Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal (3% on top ) COD Only Extra Info: Imported from Singapore dealer 2 years ago, its 230V voltage which means they are compatible with our Voltage output , comes with all original boxes and accessories. Always taking cared of my Stereo equipments, they are in like new condition. No needs introduction , one of best digital source so far in the world. P1: The P1 features the VMK-3.5-20S VRDS-NEO with a refined drive circuit design. A pair of selected ball bearings is used in the spindle shaft bearing assembly, and there is a micron-level accuracy duralumin turntable with a 20 mm-thick steel turntable bridge for a total mass of 5.2 kg. In addition, the highly trusted mechanism of the P1 has been further refined with a high-magnetic-flux-density magnet-driven coreless three-phase brushless spindle motor, thread feed control (which evolved from the concept of the premier P-0 series), and a sliding-shaft-structure pickup that ensures that the laser beam is always at a right angle to the disc. The P1 uses the VS-DD dedicated spindle servo driver to drive the spindle motor that functions as the core unit of the VRDS-NEO mechanism. Using a three-channel discrete amplifier circuit to optimize the current waveform supplied to the motors, the VS-DD suppresses vibrations, enabling smooth spindle drive operation and highly precise servo control. The dedicated toroidal power supply unit is mounted in a separate power supply unit housing, enhancing noise isolation effects. The inside of the main unit chassis has a double-deck structure and 3D optimized chassis construction connecting each circuit block with the shortest signal paths. Thick aluminum materials are used for the exterior, and the 5 mm-thick steel bottom chassis is supported at four points on original ESOTERIC pinpoint feet. Vibration is effectively controlled and thorough measures have been taken for rigidity. The P1 is equipped with five types and seven channels of digital output terminals (ES-LINK x 2, XLR x 2, coaxial x 1, i.LINK 4p/6p x 1 each), including a new dedicated ES-LINK4 terminal and dual XLR terminals supporting past.versions of ES-LINK. D1: Incorporated the AK4495S, a state-of-the-art 32-bit DAC device developed by Asahi Kasei Microd-evices Corporation. Sixteen circuits per channel are provided to achieve phenomenal linearity and low noise. In addition to direct processing of the DSD signal, a new 36-bit D/A processing algorithm has been adopted for analog conversion of the PCM signal at 36-bit resolution. The result is ?ne, smooth sound quality as along with high resolution. For the ultimate performance as a line driver, the output buffer ampli?er circuit of the D1 makes extensive use of materials and is con?gured with its own board separate from the D/A converter. The curr-ent output capability is high, and the high-perfor-mance elements adopted for the slew rate, which indicates response speed, boast the incredibly high speed of 2000V/?s. The ability to supply instant current is maximized with an extravagant buffer circuit con?guration utilizing one circuit for RCA output and one circuit each for hot and cold conn-ections for XLR output. With the ESOTERIC-HCLD, the D1 reproduces the dynamism of music with breathtaking reality. All analog circuits (DAC circuit analog portion, HCLD buffer circuit, etc.) are electrically separate from the digital circuits. This further enhances the clarity of sound quality by preventing the intrusion of digital noise. Two large toroidal power supply units are installed for the digital and analog circuits, enabling high-ef?ciency and high-power drive operation in add-ition to low noise and low distortion. Stable and clean power is supplied to each circuit block by strong power supply circuits incorporating multiple large capacitors. The D1 is equipped with wide-ranging dig-ital inputs of seven types and eight channels (ES-LINK x 1, XLR x 1, iLINK 4p/6p x 1, USB x 1, coaxial x 2, optical x 1), and can be used for high-sampling -rate sources of up to 24-bit/192kHz. In addition, XLR x 2 supports high-sampling-rate/high-bit inp-uts of 48-bit/192kHz (ES-LINK3) and 24-bit/384 kHz (Dual AES 8Fs).
  16. Hi all. This is a call out to Wadia and Esoteric owners mainly in a plight for enlightenment . I am in a bit of a dilemmer as my Esoteric P700 which is in great condition other than a fault which basically needs another doner unit to fix. So far I have not found another suitable doner unit. I use an MSB Power Dac which I relly like and have no real need to swap out. So, I am considering buying another tansport which would ideally have balanced output. I have always admired the Wadia' after hearing my firends 7&9 a few years ago now. I guess hte basic questions are:- how reliable have Wadia owners with 90's- say 2000 machine found their units? Also, how "good" do they sound in your opinion? I am thinking WT2000, WT3200, 20, 8 and maybe others Are Esoteric's of similar vintage "better"? I am thinking P700, P30, P70, P2 and maybe a few more is it REALLY time to give up on transports of this vintage and move into the modern cdp/transport ageI have a need for a redbook transport rotand other good transport owners I have heard some of these modesl above and have read up as much as I can but havent quite come to the conclusion I need yet. Maybe you can throw some light on the picture. I am sure there will be a variety of opinions out there. Thanks for reading this

  18. I thought I would share some of my extremely amateur pictures and videos from the recent Bangkok Audio Video show. Apologies for the quality but it is all just recorded poorly on my phone but something is better than nothing right? There is a really good scene here in Thailand for high end gear and some really good retailers. It has exceeded my expectations of what is here and surpases Aus in some respects. Anyways here is a few pics and vids and I will try to talk about each a little. The rooms at the show were really well sized and a lot better than in videos we see from the states etc (not just hotel bedrooms). The rooms where all conference rooms and decently sized for the majority. My favourite room roughly 8x14x3.5m Equipment is Proac Response K8, Rel No.25 array @Sime, Acoustic Arts Mono 3 Amps, The Beast server and an Audioquest Niagara. TT was unfortunately not used. (The speakers were meant to be the new top Elac Concentro but they unfortunately weren't there. The Proacs were very impressive regardless) This system was incredible and was demo'd by a Rel representative who did comparisons of sub vs no sub, 2 sub vs 6 sub array. The sound with no subs was seriously good but with the array was something else. It gave the feel of a live concert with the benefits of a HIFI system. It was never over powering at low volumes 60dB or at over 100dB and made it so much better at either volume level too. The subs filled in effect and made it so much more appealing, natural with a soundstage that was just amazing. They really transformed it into something other-worldly. My next project at home is to integrate my SVS into my system and after this it is a must. I will be buying a second if anyone is considering selling theirs though I wish I could afford the Rel array........ It was great speaking with the Rel guy alone and picking his brain. I have videos I will attach at the end of this post. Next is a room roughly the same as above though with no room treatment whatsoever. Equipment is Focal Grand Utopia 3 (roughly $260k AUD), Esoteric Grandioso stack with Fidelizer server, VTL Siegfried Series 2 monos and TL7.5 pre, Entreq Tellus 2 and more, In the pic is Stirling Trayle who did a talk on system optimisation and another on speaker positioning. The speaker positioning was really good and gave a scientific method rather than just constantly shuffling in semi bling hope. The optimization was good too. The sound of this system was of course amazing especially at higher volumes. At lower it was just so different to the Proac Rel room. It was what you would expect from a >500k system though and was something very special. Stirling travels the world setting up peoples speakers and believes in minimal room treatment after the speakers have been positioned. Got to speak with Stirling for quite a while and learnt quite a bit. The loom with more Entreq This room was about 6x5 with a lot of room treatment including little timber dots everywhere EDIT...Wilson Alexia with some Serbian Nat amps with valves as big as a football, Bergmann Galder TT This was a really nice room but didn't grab me. This next room was roughly 7x9 and had both a Wilson and Avantgarde setup EDIT...Wilson Alexia, D'Agostino Progression, dCS Rossini and Fidelizer server. This was incredible and from memory the monoblocks are a decent step up from the system presented at Audio Connection for their dCS launch which had the same DAC/clock, speakers were Sasha and used the Momentum integrated. I just wish this had it's own room because it was amazing. The other in this room was Avantgarde Duo Mezzo XD and Cary CAD 805AE it was beautiful though played a lot of music that wasn't really my taste and I don't think it was the best recordings. Classical on the Focal Grand Utopias gave me goosebumps but this didn't. Another good room Cessaro Alpha 2, Ayon S10 and Vulcan Evo amps. This was really lovely and the Cessaro rep enjoyed having someone to speak English with. The speakers use TAD drivers and were really special to listen to. He said there is a pair in Sydney and he travels to every customers house to set them up. Bad pic sorry Tannoy Westminster Royal SE and Kengsington GR, Sun Audio and Esoteric Sounded good but didn't grab me. ML ESL 15A and Burmester 911 MK3 This was really really nice and I think the ARC did really well. Burmester amps have always sounded really good everytime I hear them This room had black Focal Sopra 2s. Red Sopra 3s and Orange Sopra 1s (not shown) I was amazed at how the little naim all in one sounded on the Sopra 2s and would happily live with this system. The Micromega all in one amps were pretty crappy on all 3 sets of speakers. The Naim stack with Sopra 3 was beautiful and the best attainable system (for most) that I heard there. Naim really is incredible. 7.3 Elac Unifi, 3x Rel 2 12/SE Rotel RA1580 and 2x RMB-1585 This was pretty cool and I think the Rotel processor is brilliant. A few other systems Stealth 25th Anniversary Karp Horns. Claiming to be the best home theatre speakers in the world. These Daniel Hertz M7 were pretty good. Unsure... There were some other really good systems especially a Stenheim and Vitus room though I don't have pics. A locally made 300b amp for $800 AUD was absolutely beautiful with his own homemade speakers for roughly $3000 AUD One room had Magico bookshelves but he didn't want to set them up same goes with Avantgarde Zero1s The new Paradigm Persona Bookshelves sounded pretty average but had a little amp and not a good space It was a good show with a decent turn out and I was very impressed with the room sizes. I think all shows should try to use conference rooms and not tiny little hotel bedrooms. I'll try to add some videos soon EDITED.. Wilson speakers are Alexia not Sasha S2

Refined Dual Mono D/A Converters Esoteric’s unique VOSP* mechanism employs the same axial sliding pick-up assembly used in their premier Grandioso line of high-end SACD players. As the pickup lens moves, the laser beam maintains an ultra-precise perpendicular optical axis orientation relative to the disc surface, ensuring highly accurate reading of audio data. The VOSP mechanism is rigidly held by a robust steel plate and an 8mm-thick large-diameter steel stabilizer for superior anti-resonance and anti-vibration properties. *VOSP = Vertically-aligned Optical Stability Platform Refined Dual Mono D/A Converters Derived From Top-of-the-Line Components, the D/A converters analogue output circuitry features both excellent high-end resolution and natural musical texturing that only high-end components such as Esoteric’s K Series SACD players can offer. Centred around Asahi Kasei’s high-end AK4490* 32-bit DAC, this circuitry accentuates the expressive power of these players with 4 parallel/differential circuits and 8 outputs driving each channel—twice that of conventional players in terms of circuit scale—to further enhance sound quality with excellent linearity and low distortion. 34-Bit D/A Processing Achieves Outstanding Powers of Musical Expression Employing a 34-bit D/A processing algorithm with an encoding resolution that is an astounding 1,024 times greater than that of 24-bit encoding, multiple 32-bit DAC devices were combined to convert the high-resolution 34-bit PCM signal to analogue. In the digital range, full advantage is taken of high-bit data gradation to minimize calculation errors and provide faithful conversion to analogue, thereby attaining outstanding powers of expression with even extremely small music signals. Comprehensive D/D Conversion Compatible With Wide Range of Sources In addition to playback at the original sampling frequency, 2X, 4X and 8X up-conversion of the PCM digital signal is also provided, a range of D/D conversion modes are also available for the PCM format, such as PCM-to-DSD conversion. Four Digital Filters Plus Filter OFF Mode Four types of digital filter are available for PCM signal processing. Besides two FIR (Finite Impulse Response) digital filters, which have an established reputation for outstanding sound quality, two types of short delay digital filters are also included for a more precise and natural sound. 20. After months of waiting for its turn I have finally found some time and fixed Esoteric P-500 transport. Works (and looks) like new. But it has this thing installed (by "Tom" in 1992) which I have no idea what it actually is or does. It has an optical cable sticking out of it as if it was to accept some data (sync?) from another device. It is visible in second picture (on the right) leaving the black box via the red tube. Looks like it is done reasonably professionally, maybe apart from securing the fiber optics cable at its entry to the player. Any ideas? Cheers Roman
