  1. Long story short I need to sell my large home set up and replace it with a headphone set up. I have tried almost every top headphone and while I liked the Utopia and Arya with the chord hugo, the Stax SR 009s paried with the Chord Qutest and srm-t8000 blew my mind. The detail and the way it presented the music really was life changing. This is coming from a strong PMC floorstanding set up at home. The problem is the price of the SR 009s, there are many SR 009 selling second hand for HALF the price. So does anyone have strong experience with trying both in order to provide me with some information that could help? I also here there is strong recommendations for the 3rd party amps.. but that can be for another discussion

Twin 10” active bass drivers with twin 200w amplifiers in each cabinet. 24Hz bass in-room blends seamlessly with the panels. 90db means 50 (good) watts of amplifier (valve or solid state) will drive these. Extreme transparency along with explosive dynamics makes these truly full range, world class speakers. Considered as one of the best loudspeakers available today, the ML Summit combines state-of-the-art XStat electrostatic technology with PoweredForce bass for staggeringly realistic sound. I don’t have boxes or manual for these, but I’m happy to assist with packing & shipping. Photos: Advertisements without photos of the actual item will not be approved.
  3. Item: QUAD ESL-63 with original Amps Location: Taree Price: $800 Item Condition: functions but needs work Reason for selling: I can't afford to properly restore Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only Extra Info: Hi all, these are some fantastic electrostatic speakers as I'm sure you know. Sadly though they've been sitting in dust for 2 years when I found them so it really needs to be pulled apart and properly cleaned. The speakers come with both original amplifiers and all the cables. I plugged them in and one speaker works (but sounds like there is a lot of dust on the membrane) the other speaker my mum vacuum cleaned and I think destroyed the membrane before I could stop her, now you can still hear the music from the both speakers but the vacuum cleaned one is considerably quieter. I believe that all you need to get. The speakers up and running is a replacement membrane and a and a full service for the speakers and amplifiers (if services are a thing). I'm still new to high end speakers so if my pricing is off please tell me. I'm happy to listen to any reasonable offers. Kind regards Isaac. Pictures:

Included in the package: 2 x Quad II Forty Power Amplifiers 1 x Quad QC Twenty Four Pre Amplifier 1 x Pair of ESL-2905 Electrostatic Speakers Quad 11 Four Power Amplifiers: Very good 2nd-hand condition finished in Lancaster Green. Please note: one of the amps does have some surface scratches which we have highlighted in picture. From Quad: “The Quad II-forty power amplifier is much more than a tribute to one of the most famous designs in audio - but refined and powerful in the modern sense of the terms. Although the circuit topology has changed a little from the original, significantly better components and a brand new transformer design have been engineered. While still being delicately balanced a fast, crisp and detailed sound is achieved, whilst producing an output current suitable for modern loudspeakers, including our very own ESL. KT-88 output valves work in push-pull configuration, while a choice of 4 Ohm or 8 Ohm taps allow for a wide choice of loudspeaker configurations.” QC Twenty Four Pre Amplifier: Very good 2nd-hand condition and finished in Lancaster Green. From Quad: Using the very finest components, with possibly the best example of this being the new 'old stock' 6111WA double triode. With transformers designed by one of the world's leading authorities and relay input switching the musical signal is preserved in its purest form - pursuant to the philosophy of the theoretical perfect amplifier which Peter Walker himself stated is, 'a straight wire with gain'. The QC Twenty Four has 2 main outputs, 2 Tape Play and Record connections and inputs for CD, Tuner, Aux 1, Aux 2 and an optional Phono port. ESL 2905 Electrostatic Speakers: In Very good 2nd-hand condition – Using the principal of highly charged ultra thin membrane panels – these are a stand out speaker design both for their capability and 140cm high x70cm wide size. There is magic in the performance with these. 8. Item: Pair of Martin Logan Ethos electrostatic hybrid speakers like new Location: Everton Park, Brisbane QLD Price: $6,299.00 includes $60 donation to SNA (new price $10,000) Item Condition: Like new, perfect with original packaging Reason for selling: Upgraded to another set of Martin Logan's so these are no longer needed. Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, bank transfer if shipping is required and you cannot pay in person. NO PAYPAL Extra Info: I upgraded from conventional three way cone Tannoy floor standing speakers to the Ethos Martins and the improvement was astounding! Nice seamless delivery of top end thru mid range and down to 375hz which is all handled by the electrostatic panel, and then below 375hz is punched by the 8 inch forward facing active powered cone driven by the internal speaker amplifier and the passive downward facing 8 inch. Sound stage appears wider than the speaker placement. Very good looking speaker and while they are a reasonable size do not look imposing due to the see through nature of the panels. Purchased new in box from authorised Brisbane dealer and used for 2 years in non smoking home. Perfect condition. Never exposed to direct sunlight. 8" forward facing bass driver with downward 8" passive. Has bass control knob so you can tweak to suit your situation. 9. Item: Sanders 10c Electrostatic Speakers Location: Thornbury, Victoria Item condition description: Very good Price: $10,000 negotiable Reason for selling: Trying an active (smaller) setup Payment methods: Paypal, Cash - Pickup Extra info: For sale are my Sanders 10c Hybrid Electrostat speakers, previously owned by Sir Sanders Zingmore who can attest to their provenance. Included are the following: Sanders 10c Electrostatic Speakers, including 1 x Magtech Amplifier and 1 x Behringer Ultra-Drive Pro DCX2496 digital crossover XLR Interconnects Speaker cables for the panels Manuals This is the first set of electrostatic speakers I’ve owned - and I highly recommend them to those interested in what ESLs can do. Each speaker consists of an active panel, driven by the included Magtech Amplifier, and a transmission-line bass driver, driven by an amplifier you will need to supply yourself. The digital crossover allows a seamless integration between panels and bass. A bit more on the reasoning for the sale: without the luxury of a dedicated listening room, my better half has requested there be "less" gear in the living area. As such I'm looking at an active setup to keep things simple, which is good for the WAF. Here are some links for those unfamiliar with the Sanders ethos: https://www.dagogo.com/sanders-sound-model-10-electrostat-speaker-review/ https://www.hometheatershack.com/forums/rocky-mountain-audio-fest-rmaf-2013-show-coverage/70588-sanders-sound-systems.html When Roger Sanders sells his speakers he includes a Magtech amp and the digital crossover in the price (making it amazing value even at full price). I am doing the same. In this way, you need only bring your own amp and preamp (just like when you buy a 'normal' speaker) From the Sanders website: "The Model 10 will play at concert hall levels and can be used with multi-thousand watt amplifiers without arcing or damage. No protective circuitry is used or needed. It will reproduce the full dynamic range of any music without strain. Deep powerful bass is assured with the use of a transmission line woofer system. The woofer system has been specifically designed to stop and start faster than other woofers so that perfect integration with a massless ESL finally is achieved. ....... Expensive electronic crossovers and biamplification are used to achieve spectacular levels of performance. This speaker practically disappears into the room, both sonically and visually. This helps with the age old problem of the speakers taking over the room. This integrated speaker system will be a worthy anchor of a reference-level high-end audio system of the highest performance possible." The original boxes were damaged in the system’s previous life, so local buyers are preferred. The speakers do come apart for transport and Roger Sanders regularly ships them to customers, so this may be possible but would involve a fair bit of additional cost for new boxes and postage. Happy to demo for any serious prospective buyer - no tyre kickers, please. Will donate $100 to SNA forum if sold here. Pictures:

  12. Item: Quad 2905 Electrostatic Speaker Location: Perth Price: 6500 Item Condition: Excellent Reason for selling: Getting out of hifi Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only Extra Info: My speakers are in superb condition. I have owned them from new and only selling due to some life changes. I will not bore you with the hoohah about their sound, it is very nice and plenty of reviews on the net to confirm. I purchased these for $19,000 from Douglas Hifi. I have the original boxes and prefer to sell locally. If I cannot, then will post interstate as it is not a big deal because of the original boxes. See pics for condition. I also had the speaker cloth replaced on both speakers (cost me a few hundred dollars done locally by Jason from Ultra Media) and yes, a significant improvement in sound. Thanks for looking. Pictures:
  13. Item: ReList: Martin Logan Summit-X Near New Location: Hobart Price: $9500 Item Condition: Very Near Mint Reason for selling: Several :- 1. Have largely lost interest in hifi - resulting in a ground-up rationalisation & stripping back of a hobby that has gotten a tad out of control, resulting in too much stuff. Time to 'rationalise'. 2. As dipoles, these need to be out in the room somewhat, and in my particular situation, this is leaving me a bit cramped for space. 3. The little bit of listening that I do still bother with is pretty much just sorta background stuff at very low volumes - not critical listening as such. The MLs really need a bit of wick to get them moving and give their best. IE, they are pretty much wasted on me these days. Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only Extra Info: Relist & Price Reduction: Will consider gear swap with price adjustment if appropriate: Purchased brand new - delivered June 29th 2017. High-gloss piano black finish. Other than perhaps a bit of dust, there are no cosmetic imperfections (eg vacuum cleaner knocks, etc) as far as I am aware. They can be accurately described as Very Near Mint. Serial Numbers ABX8053795G12 / 796G12 Plenty of Info, specs and reviews available online. I will still maintain a system - hence will consider a swap or part-swap for speakers that are passive and more compact. Can demo for locals. Please email any queries. Note A: The warranty unfortunately is not transferrable. Whilst I would be amazed if these gave any trouble whatsoever, you are on your own if problems do arise. Note B: For interstate shipping, these will be re-packed into their original boxes, plastic-wrapped and pallet-mounted as they were delivered to me (see pic). They come with all original docs, spikes, covers, etc. Pictures:

  19. Item: STAX system. SR-404 headphones and SRM1-Mk2 PRO amp. Location: Launceston, Tasmania Price: $1300 Item Condition: Excellent condition - see extra info. and photos. Reason for selling: Can only listen to one STAX system at a time! (enough with the Tasmanian jokes already...) Payment Method: Cash, Paypal, bank transfer Extra Info: For Sale - STAX setup, consisting of SR-404 headphones and SRM1/Mk2 amp. SR-404 headphones. These headphones present as new and are absolutely faultless. The 404's are considered one of the very best of the Stax lambda range for rock, metal and blues. They are no slouch for other genres either. They will be sent in their original packaging with manual. SRM1/Mk2 PRO amp. This is an older amp - was the TOTL Stax SS amp "back in the day". Sometimes called the "Swiss army knife" of STAX amps, it has a switchable voltage selector on the back to make it compatible with mains power worldwide, and on the front has both a normal bias and a pro bias jack, making it suitable for ANY Stax headphones made in the last 4 - 5 decades. This amp has been professionally rebuilt with all new caps and numerous other parts replaced (with higher spec / better than original parts) last year (can provide receipts). It was a high end amp in the '80's, and still holds it's own now. The asking price for this rig is similar to what you could buy an entry level STAX setup for now, but the quality and sound far surpasses the entry level gear. You might find the same amp a little cheaper on ebay - but it will have 30 year old caps and other parts that will need replacing sooner rather than later. Most are sold "as is / untested". You can buy this one with peace of mind, I guarantee it to be working flawlessly. nb: I just noticed the photo of the back of the amp looks like it is set to 220v. It is set correctly to 240, but the photo doesn't show the number (240) ABOVE the jumper, where the arrow is pointed. Pictures:

  22. Item: Quad ESL 63 speakers Location: Canberra Price: $2,400 Item Condition:all new membranes on panels Reason for selling: Lack of space for them Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only Extra Info: I have an amazing pair of Quad esl63's that have been rebuilt and tweaked by electrostat genius Christian Felaife Sydney. Chistian is getting a tremendous reputation for his work, (albeit slowly.) He has redone the membranes on each of the 6 panels- a laborious process, using much better quality mylar and glue than the original quad. This cost $1800. In comparison with the esl57, the esl63 is seen as more of an all rounder, but the 57 has a sweeter treble. However with these speakers, the treble is as sweet as a 57 but is still retains the outstanding qualities of the 63. He has given me an effective lifetime warranty on them, which I think I can arrange to transfer to you at least in part. Whilst they are highly unlikey to fail, should you have any membrane problems in the next year or so I can arrange to get them fixed (unless you have done something stupid to them). I would keep them forever but due to changed domestic arrangements, I don't have the space. Pictures:
  23. Item: White Quad ESL 57's (2) - Fully refurbished Location: Canberra Price: $2200 Item Condition: Excellent Reason for selling: Needs must. Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only Extra Info: These are fully refurbished by John Hall. Purchased from a reputable SNAer whose description to me - for the sake of transparency - was as follows: "The 57's in that condition and completely refurbished should easily get $3000, perhaps $3500 with stands. I know they owed me $5000 including stands. I bought them for $2k, spent another $2500 getting them completely stripped and refurbished, including shipping, and the stands were $500. Stands are custom. Original and custom stands included in sale. Speakers are sequentially numbered. The other is fully packaged and boxed ready for courier - as will be this one when I repack after posting here. I'm selling for far less than I paid. A donation will be made to SNA on successful sale. Any comments or questions - please don't hesitate to ask. They need to go, unfortunately. Pictures: Apologies for the potato photos - these are taken with my phone. The speakers look amazing in person.
  24. Item: Martin Logan Electrostatic Summit X (Black Piano Gloss) Location: MELBOURNE Price: $13,750 (RRP $23,498, for high gloss black finish) Item Condition: AS NEW Reason for selling: PACKING IT ALL UP FOR HOME RENOVATIONS/ see also my other listings Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, Direct Deposit Extra Info: I have purchased these marvelous speakers new in November last year. They are in as new condition, come with all the usual accessories, set-up manual and original packaging. This is has to be one of the most highly acclaimed loudspeakers on the globe as perhaps well exemplified by few quotes from various professional reviewers below. Dick Olsher (The Absolute Sound): “Speakers have come and gone, but it is still one of the main pillars of my reference system, and in my estimation, a classic in the making” “I can safely affirm that it is the best-sounding hybrid ESL in the world, and that is bad news for expensive box speakers. In fact, I can’t think of a box speaker under $40K I would rather live with” Howard Kneller (SoundStage): (Product Of The Year) “When these speakers make their special magic, they’ll likely astound and emotionally move even the most experienced and hardened audiophile. I find the Summit X just too addictive to live without. I’m putting my money where my mouth is and buying the review pair to serve as my new reference loudspeakers. I may never reach the promised land of Audio Nirvana, electrostatic or otherwise, but thanks to MartinLogan, I’m going to enjoy the journey” Alan Sircom ( Hi Fi Plus): “Especially in recessionary times, people are quick to jump on high-end audio as an expensive folly; irrespective of the stratospheric performance such products can deliver. In part, this is because they see prices that would make De Beers blush. Then there are products that also deliver stratospheric performance, but at a more manageable price point. The MartinLogan Summit X is one such product, delivering reference-grade performance that you’d struggle to match at double the price. This could spell the end of monkey coffins for many listeners.” Jeff Dorgay (Tone Audio): “The Summit was one of my favorite speakers of all time, and the new Summit X is even better.” Noel Keywood, Hi-Fi World: "For me, Martin Logan’s biggest XStat panel is a tour-de-force of loudspeaker engineering – one that works every bit as well as they claim, measurement and listening show. You simply cannot get better clarity than this, you can’t get a more even sound free from phasiness and you’ll never hear violin sounding as it is meant to, except from this big XStat panel. It’s line source nature paints up a massive sound stage, one on which images are pin sharp. Again, I’ve never heard better – and I cannot imagine being able to… Loudspeakers don't get much better than this." ............................................................................................................................................................................................................ For me personally the most startling aspect of these unique speakers is their astonishing detail and transparency - achieved without the 'typical cost' of undesirable edginess or forwardness. In addition - the option which allows one to fine tune the seamlessly integrated powered bass drivers to one's particular room has proved to me of immense value, something I would have welcomed in many other setups. Understandably I would much prefer a local pick up. However a secure/insured courier at buyer's cost could perhaps still be discussed (shipping cartons are rather large thou) Genuinely interested parties, please feel free to ask any questions via PM. Richard (apolgies for 'not such great' photos, will try to do better on request) Pictures:
  25. Ok, So posted the below some time ago but can now delete the requirement to sell ..... Sometime in 1965 to 1970 my Dad bought a set of speakers from a fellow in Sydney who made them from a Janszen kit. There are a pair of Janszen Electrostatic Tweeters in each. I’m not sure what they cost him, but it must have been a fair bit, as Mum was not very happy! They missed out on our annual family holiday! My Dad is no longer with us, and I’ve inherited his speakers some years ago. I had the speakers serviced in Canberra in 2010 by a very experienced fellow with a great reputation. the woofers in each box were replaced due to age and misaligned magnets. He also added porting to the back of each after testing them. All wiring and power was checked. The transformers for the electrostatics was found to be in good condition. Inside each speaker box there are: two electrostatic tweeters, a 9†woofer, a transformer, and dampening foam etc Cosmetically, I will rate this pair a 7/10 due to some marks on the top of the cabinets where ornaments have been placed over the years. These marks are minor and can only be seen upon close inspection. The original cloth on the speaker grills has been replacd by a black grill fabric. I need to sell these speakers, as I don’t have the room for them (my wife has put her foot down). I don’t know where to sell them, or what price I should be asking for them? Can anyone out there help me out, or seen something similar previously? I'd really appreciate your help, cheers. So I am still interested in any additional information anyone may have about these speakers, but am also trying to find out if I have any options for a) generally replacing / upgrading the cabinets b) Upgrading the woofer. At the time I had the work done I was not in a position to spend a great deal of money, this would probably mean changing the cross over as well??! c) Upgrading the power supply, or even putting it external to the speakers?!? I had been thinking about maybe trying to do sort of a bookshelf option, and maybe take the power supply external from the tweeters. But my only concern with this is that even if I run a sub for the system I think I am going to be missing some of the mid to lower end frequencies without having a woofer in built? couple of pics attached .. looking forward to hearing people's thoughts..
