  1. Item: Melody H34 Signature Integrated Amplifier Location: Melbourne Price: $1800 Item Condition: 9/10 Reason for selling: Surplus Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only Extra Info: This is my very first amplifier into the world of tubes and valves. A lot of time and money was invested in tube rolling to get the right synergy out of the amplifier with the right tubes. Original valves have been replaced with Mullard reissue El34, Mullard 5AR4, Brimar 6SL7 and Ken Rad 6SN7. Over $600 worth of tubes there alone. Amplifier is in excellent condition for its age and presents itself beautifully in its deep piano black chassis. Will come with its original double boxes and manuals. Inspection and sound will not disappoint. Extract from the internet MELODY H34s ASTRO BLACK Favorite tube of many music lovers is the EL34 which excels at tone. The tonality of the EL34 makes it also popular with musicians using stringed instruments, especially guitars. The most popular amplifier in the Melody range and winner of many awards the Melody H34 Signature offers fantastic sound quality at a price that seems unbelievable. With a full size chassis in piano black finish and retro styling it is a statement product in quality and style. The 25mm thick front panel contains three large solid aluminum knobs which control power on/off, volume and four RCA inputs. The volume knob controls a stepped resistor array with 24 positions. This ensures precise channel matching and maximum sound fidelity. The power tubes are four EL34 which deliver 40 watts of effortless power. This allows it to drive a wide range of loudspeakers with ease. The input and driver tubes are 6SN7/6SL7 and the amplifier has full tube rectification provided by the 5AR4 tubes. All the internal wiring is done by hand point to point with no circuit boards at all. This is the traditional way to build a long lasting amplifier with maximum sound qualities. It permits easy servicing and parts replacement or upgrading which modern solid state circuits with surface mount devices to not allow. At the rear are three oversized and shielded transformers with a power transformer in the centre and an output transformer either side for the left and right channels. Melody’s know how has delivered an amplifier that is powerful, delicate and with a depth of tone that makes it very beguiling. This amplifier can be muscular at one minute yet delicate the next, extracting minute details from the music. The sound stage is wide and deep and the bass is extremely realistic. The bass however is not dry or truncated, like many transistor amplifiers. It delivers information in the bass registers with plenty of feeling. The H34 Signature is an amplifier that music lovers will enjoy, not only for its sound but for the unbeatable value it offers. Power Output: 2 x 45W Tubes: EL34 x 4, 6SN7 x 2, 6SL7 x 2, 5AR4 x 2 Frequency Response: 20Hz–20kHz Input Impedance: 250 kOhms Output Impedance: 4 Ohms, 8 Ohms Input Sensitivity: 480mV Signal to noise: 90dB Harmonic Distortion: 1% Dimensions: 430 W x 215 H x 410 D mm Weight: 24 kg
  2. Item: Consonance M100 Plus Integrated Valve Amplifier Location: Northcote 3070 Price: $780 firm (no postage, it's just too heavy/delicate) Item Condition: Very good. All working. Reason for selling: Unused at the moment Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only Extra Info: I am the fourth owner, previous owner amisty and holliswhy. It was sold as working and it was, but on test I found left channel distorted, opened it up and replaced several open circuit resistors in the output stage, with increased wattage 1% matched parts, in both channels. All fine now, just sweet sweet music. Also I've repaired the remote control which was not working due to alignment of parts in the volume toggle. I've also given the button a nice machined finish, part of the problem was it didn't quite fit properly in the case. Thus the modest price increase from previous sale, it's now 100% after hours spent sourcing parts and effecting above repairs. I've probably only listened for 30 or 40 hours with the Gold Lions and GE's in the pre-amp stage. Enjoyed it but want to fund other projects. 40 Watts Per Channel Class A/B Push Pull 240 Volt version NO POWER CABLE Comes with: Original Consonance EL34 x4, JJ KT77 x 4, Gold Lion KT77 x4, GE 6SN7 x2, GE JAN 12AT7 x2, Golden Dragon 12AT7 x2 Pictures:

  5. I bought a second hand tube amp from the classified, Cymer ST-80. Very impressed with the sound but it looks like it can be improved with a new set of tubes. With a bit of time on my hands, I thought I would play with some tubes. Genalax Gold Lions ECC81 Replaced Electro Harmonix 12AT7EH Power on, after about 30 seconds, the cartridge was lowered. Playing the notoriously hard to drive Massive Attack's Mezzanine 1st track, Angel. While this track is sounding much better on the 75w/channel Cymer, it still struggles. Well, with the new Gold Lions ECC81, the music instantly feels more open, better paced and more airy. Bass is a lot more weighty, perhaps a little floppier, but the feeling of struggle has been lifted. It is thumping away with ease. After playing Side A & B, I switched to Beirut's No No No. The percussions at the beginning have much more extended reverb (more extended decay?). So are the rest of the instruments, drums, horns, and everything else. This album is sounding so good right now I am completely immersed in the music... After No No No. I went out for lunch and left the power of the amp on. After 1.5 hours, I put on Mezzanine again. Angel plays on... This time with tight and solid bass. Track after track, when the album ends, it ended with much satisfaction. My speakers have never played Mezzanine so well! WOW! These Gold Lions ECC81 are beauties! They produced open, airy sound and tight bass. Just what I told the seller the type of tubes I am after. I am loving these two little tubes.
  6. So last night my venerable AI500 decided to blow. Very sudden; I noticed one of the EL34s was glowing bright orange, then within 30 secs it went purple, then pop! Fair amount of smoke from the back of the amp. I've had an EL34 go bright orange before and have just replaced the quad set of valves, but never anything like this. Any idea of what's gone, aside from the tube, much appreciated. Also any recommendations for a brand of EL34, I might steer clear of Electro-Harmonix from now on...
  7. After reading about one stereophile reviewer's love for the humble EL34 power tube and purchasing, from a friend, two pairs of NOS NIB Svetlana EL34s, I had to build a EL34 SE UL power amp. Using Hammond power tranni, 20H choke and Edcor open frame 15W OPTs I fashioned this coluorful power amp. With a two stage filtering in the PS and Russian PIO inter-stage caps plus a 6N1P driver tube this amp sounded great. No REALLY great. In-fact so good a casual listener bought it on first review days after I completed the amp. The schematic was based on a tried and true KT88 schema but I got my better techo advisers to tweak it. The result: an absolutely gorgeous sounding amp. I added a stunning Spotted Gum Ozzie timber base and blue top plate plus lead filled feet to make this a well crafted power amp. UL SE and EL34 - does it get any better? Solid, lush sounding amp with a stunning mid-range. I called the amp Retro-34UL. Who else has a EL34 SE UL amp? I'd like to see some images.
