  6. Item: Denon DVD-A! DVD/CD/DVD-A Player Location: Oak Park Price: $400 Item Condition: Has an intermittent fault in the optical tracking. Cosmetically is perfect. Reason for selling: Taking up room. Payment Method: Pickup - Cash Extra Info: Have placed $400 but am open to reasonable offers. The thing will give $4000 CD players a run for their money! Selling my bought from new in 2002 Denon DVD-A1. This was the flagship DVD player produced by Denon when they made incredible HT and Audio products. I bought it to match my Denon AVC-A1SE, another classic piece of Denon electronics that weighed as much as a battleship. Weighs in at an impressive18.5kg; and it's a DVD player! Sadly it has a fault where the optical drive has issues detecting the CD or DVD when first loaded. This results in a noise from the CD tray and sometimes a normal playing of the CD or if not a need to open and close the CD tray a number of times, usually three or four, before it begins playing, When playing it perform perfectly for the entire CD. I have had the issue checked and at the time DVD's were being replaced by HD-DVD and BlueRay so spending $600 for a new laser assembly didn't seem to make sense but when the sound from this thing is heard it probably was. I have it currently connected to a Moon system comparing the Chris Jones - Roadhouse& Automobiles CD from Stockfisch on the Denon V my Moon CD transport valued at at $7k plus and I'm shocked at how close to the much more expensive and newer Moon, the Denon is. For $900 repaired this would be great value. In addition to being able to play CD's, when it finally does, the CD drive can be bypassed and the internal DAC's ( Burr Brown PCM1704 Audio DACs (these are rated at 24-bit 768 kHz and will oversample 96/24 8X) can used for external devices. Here's a link to brilliant review of it. Denon DVD-A1 As much as the fault annoys me I love this thing but if someone else wants it I'm prepared to let it go. Not much good sitting under the bed and being brought out yearly to hoping he fault has miraculously gone. Comes with remote, manual and proprietary DenonLink cable.. I have a video of noise associated with fault and with it working perfectly if needed. Pickup only from Oak Park in Melbourne for obvious reasons. Pictures:
  7. Item: Marantz DV6600 Location: Inner West, Sydney Price: SOLD (elsewhere) Item Condition: Very Good Reason for selling: NLR (upgrade to Oppo 105) Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, EFT, Paypal Extra Info: For sale is my Marantz DV6600 player (I bought it new in 2007). The player is in very good condition. It has only a couple of light scratches on the top plate (see photos). Mechanically, it works perfectly. Cosmetically, it is good. No original box/packaging, unfortunately. The DV6600 plays SACD, DVD and CD. I have used it almost exclusively to play SACD and DVD. The player comes with a brand new remote control, purchased from a Marantz distributor in Melbourne ($80) only 3 months ago. About the player, Marantz says: "The Marantz DV6600 universal player is a perfect machine fitting to the requirements for an extended home entertainment enjoyment. High quality video is assured by a 216MHz/11-bit DAC and Faroudja video processing technology. Uncompromised high quality video is available via the digital video interface HDMI. Utilizing a video upconversion up to 1080i, via the available HDMI with PALProgressive Scan provides an unsurpassed picture quality for any HD compatible screen or projector. The DV6600 is compatible with the latest video and audio compression technologies, like DivX, MP3, WMA and JPEG, offering hours of music, movie and picture enjoyment without changing the disc. Audio excellence is guaranteed with a 24-bit/192kHz converter, gold plated line outputs and numerous Marantz specific performance enhancements. Enjoy breathtaking video and high quality audio." (https://www.marantz.co.uk/uk/products/pages/productdetails.aspx?catid=hometheatre&subcatid=dvdplayers&productid=dv6600&status=discontinue) Audioholics: "Marantz' DV6600 (US$649) universal DVD player is engineered for the very best in both video and audio performance. Featuring a brand new sleekly designed chassis, the DV6600 boasts an HDMI interface, 3:2 pulldown, as well as two-channel and multi-channel DVD-Audio and SACD capability. Progressive scan component video output with and 54MHz 10-bit video D/A converters ensure optimum video images. For superb audio performance, the DV5600 includes 192kHz 24-bit audio D/A converters. Advanced RC-5 connections provide for integrated system control, and front-panel menu operation adds to the player's convenience and operational flexibility." (https://www.audioholics.com/trade-shows/2005-cedia-expo/marantz-dv6600-universal-player) AVS Forum review: "Since no one has posted a comprehensive review of this player (and having just purchased one) I thought I'd do the honours. I've been looking recently for a mid-level DVD player, with HDMI output and video upsampling to maximise the potential of my Hitachi PJTX200 (HDPJ52) projector (yep christmas came early!). Also on the list of requirements were DVD-A and SACD playback capability. Players I considered were: Denon 1920 ('buggy' according to forum reports), Cambridge Audio DV89 (very good audio but lackluster video according to recent reviews/forum reports) and a demo model of the Pioneer 868 (too expensive even at demo prices). I finally settled on the Marantz DV6600. The Marantz 6600 is, supposedly, a Denon 1920 clone but there is no lip-sync issue whatsoever. This is the case either using the analogue (SCART RGB/Composite/S-video) or digital (HDMI) video outputs, so there is at least one major difference compared to the Denon 1920. On to the specifics of the review: Video quality - I've tested the Composite video, HDMI and SCART RGB video outputs and all are excellent and problem free. I've not tested the Component connection but the player does have Faroudja processing and that speaks for itself. The reason for buying this player was, of course, its HDMI output and PQ does not disappoint. Razor sharp detail retrieval, great colour saturation, proper black levels (use 'normal' setting, the 'enhanced' setting is for PC sources) and problem free video upsampling all add up to an outstanding picture. There are no video controls (brightness/contrast etc...) in the setup menu of the player, however the Hitachi projector allows change to video settings on its HDMI input. There is very little to tweak though as the picture from the Marantz player is outstanding. PS According to other reports (and for those specifically interested in the video side of this player) the Marantz 6600 is superior to both the Denon 1920 and the Cambridge Audio DV89 Audio quality - Bitstream digital performance is excellent, due to the superb transport no doubt, and the player has a comprehensive suite of controls for both DVD-A and SACD: speaker size; speaker level and time delay on all channels. Compared to my Toshiba SD900E (SD9200), the Marantz 'analog' performance is less holographic, soundstage is flatter and lacks the 'analog' warmth of the Toshiba player, this is the case for redbook CD and for DVD-A/SACD performance. The Marantz however has better channel separation and superb detail retrieval. Analog performance does further improve once the video section of the player is switched off and the player is 'run in'. PS. According to other reports (and for those specifically interested in the analog audio side of this player) the Marantz 6600 is superior to the Denon 1920 but not as good as the Cambridge Audio DV89, Marantz should really bring out an OSE version of this player! PPS. I have just installed a UPS to my system (to take care of a problem I was having with the amplifier/subwoofer, long story...) and its effect on the sound of my whole system has meant that I've had to revise my opinion of the analog outputs of the Marantz player. They are in fact very, very good and on par, if not better, than my Toshiba 900E (SD9200). I won't revise my previous comments however as they were my first impressions of the player and they'll serve as a good guide for anyone in a similar situation to mine i.e. power supply problems. Build is good at this price point. It is a lightweight player but connections at the back are nicely spaced and are very comprehensive. I've got the player connected via its digital coaxial, 5.1 analog, SCART RGB, Component and HDMI connections and there's plenty of room for each! This also accounts for the slightly wider aspect of the player Player response is outstanding with no sluggishness or slowness at all in either reading discs, accessing menus, identifying discs or playing DVD-A SACD discs. Drive is basically silent in operation and combined with outstanding error correction (as good as my Toshiba player) all points to an excellent drive and debugged fimware/software. Full marks to Marantz Engineers Conclusion - the combination of excellent firmware/software (great response time, no bugs etc...), great video performance, great audio for both analog/digital and excellent transport make this player IMHO an outstanding buy." 10. Hello, I am not even sure if it is possible and love to get some advice if I may. Does anyone know how to connect Blu-Ray Disc/DVD player to iMac 27" (2011 model)? I just would like to watch some live concert DVDs/Blu-rays Discs before heading to bed while doing internet browsing. iMac 27 used to have internal DVD ROM but I have replaced it with with SSD to improve performance long time ago and no longer have it any longer. I have spare Sony BDP-S370 to use at the moment hence checking the possibility. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

  16. Item: Samsung UBD-K8500 UHD Bluray multi region player Locati4on: SE Melb Price: $400 Item Condition: Very good condition Reason for selling: upgraded Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal (at buyers cost) , COD Only Extra Info: Bought this in May this year on release locally and cost $715 including the multi region mod kit that was installed by Gatti Eb (Blu-ray Mod) so all still under warranty for both player and mod and comes with all original receipts etc. Plays the new UHD blu-rays, blu-rays and DVDs. Have had no issues with player and has worked seamlessly for me. Along with the original remote it also comes with a secondary full sized remote to partner that I purchased separately. For full disclosure I did have this in the rack with an apple TV on top which has left some light surface blemishes the havent gone through the paint or anything and not visible usually and certainly not something would see with the player in the rack but have done best I can with photos in the right light so can see them. For melbourne buyer more than happy if want to pay cash and pick up and fully check the player out before buying. Happy to demo the player on all material so can see the player works seamlessly across all discs and all regions. for interstate buyers with the original packing am happy to ship anywhere in australia at buyers cost. Please note this multi region player can be bought from gatti web modded with the region code fitted at $650 plus shipping http://www.gattiweb.com/bluraymod.html and given the $220 it cost me to fit the mod to my unit hopefully can see value of what you are buying. At this present time there is no other multi region uhd blu-ray player you can buy. Even the Oppo once available the multi region mod is $250+ and the with the player at $950 you will be well over the $1k mark for a multi region player so hopefully can see this is going at quite a saving here. And as can probably see in the oppo thread its not without its issues... sand with the mod kit of the oppo costing what it is ... not sure should even be selling this player ... so buy it before I change my mind Pictures: couple of shots trying to show the surface blemishes, have exaggerated it here as much as possible with light so can see,

  19. I'm trying to rip a DVD so it can be played on a tablet, but this is how it looks after conversion. I'm using Handbrake and have tried H264, MPEG-4 encoders into mp4 and mkv, on both PC & a mate's Mac, no dice. Here's a 30sec sample of the video: https://www.dropbox.com/s/lhwd2460mn5muwd/Let%20s%20Dance%20and%20Sing%203_preview.mp4 I's an ABC for Kids DVD, In The Night Garden "Let's Sing and Dance" (purchased legitimately!). Guessing it's copy protected, any ideas on how to make this work? Many thanks in advance......

  23. Hey all, I'm wondering if anyone has any advice on how to get a slot-load multi-format blu ray player for my tv. I don't want to use a PS4 or an Xbox since it will need a separate controller, I'd prefer to stick to using my tv remote. Slot-load is important for me for aesthetic reasons, to place it vertical behind the mounted tv. Thanks.
