Item: Tannoy Canterbury SE Speakers (WITHDRAWN FROM SALE - NO LONGER FOR SALE) Location: Perth, WA (Victoria Park) Price: $16,500 (1% will go to SNA if sold) Item Condition: (9/10) these are scored as 9 as they have been taken out of the boxes and used. They are not marked and are in as-new condition, having been out of the boxes for one week now and in my non-smoking, no pet house. Stabilizing discs for the bases are still in original boxes. All original packaging is available and I removed staples rather than cut boxes so they can be repacked perfectly. Reason for selling: Too big for my changed room layout plan. Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, (I will set up personal paypal account if buyer is prepared to cover paypal fees). Extra Info: These speakers sound amazing, but selling because of my poor planning! I had planned to put these at the end of my room firing down the long axis of the room, but after a few music videos played through these in their test position either side of the TV firing across the room, I have decided that I don’t want to run separate systems for audio and visual. Unfortunately, my TV can only go on the long wall and my room is quite narrow, and there is just not enough space across the short dimension to do these justice (physically large, not enough distance to place away from the rear wall, and not enough distance to the listening position). Anyway – I’ve already ordered a smaller pair of speakers which will fit the space and allow me to run one system for everything. These were checked out of the Tannoy factory on 17 August 2012 - certificate is with the speakers and an image is below. There are lots of reviews of these on the net and elsewhere. I think I must have read through all of them, and you’ll struggle to find a bad word anywhere about these. In particular, I found the Jeff Day review very helpful (link is http://jeffsplace.me/wordpress/?p=2062 – he is using Tannoy Westminsters in his main system, but there are comments and pictures of Jim Smith’s (ex US dealer for Avantgarde horns) Canterbury SE based system on his forum. I corresponded with both Jeff and Jim by email to get ideas for matching gear and setup before buying these. A note on stands – it seems the Canterburys should be raised 10-15cm to get the tweeters to around ear level for most listening setups. I’ve had an engineer draft plans for a couple of types of stands for these. The design I preferred is for a simple slab of granite (2x20mm thickness to make 40mm slab, polished and with all edges rounded) on damping castors with a leveling wheel which sit on a polyurethane foot when in use but can be lowered to polyurethane wheel for moving. I’ve already placed an order for the castors, and have been to a granite supplier for a quote on the slabs. If buyer wanted these stands, price would be roughly $1,600 for the pair. This is for the best granite (that matched my kitchen benchtop) – will be a couple of hundred dollars cheaper if different granite with no change in sound damping ability), and a couple of hundred cheaper again if ok with only the granite faces being polished, and edges smoothed only but not polished. If stands not required, no problem – I will have them made up anyway and store for the future when I can get these speakers again! Anyway – if you’re in Perth, you’re welcome to demo these at my place in Victoria Park. They sound amazing given the limited space they are performing in. You’re welcome to bring your own gear to plug in if you’d like to, or check it out with my ok but not top end gear (Leben CS600, Oppo 95, VPI Classic 1 TT with DL-103R, Leben RS30eq phono stage, Bob’s Devices SUT, stock standard cables. I’ve also got a cheap Pioneer AV amp connected for TV and it’s impressive what these speakers can do even with an input like this.) I’ll list these here for a few weeks, and if no takers I’ll be boxing them up and putting them in the warehouse at my office pending moving to a new house with a larger listening room in a couple of years’ time. Feel free to PM with any questions. Pictures: Sorry the pictures are not very good – the wife is on holidays and took my camera so I had to take these with my phone.
