  1. Almost 3 years ago now I wrote my first 'real' review for SNA. https://www.stereo.net.au/reviews/classe-sigma-2200i-integrated-amplifier And I liked the amp that Marc sent me to review. I liked it a lot. So much in fact that when the opportunity came up to buy one for a 'measly' $3500, I took it. That ebay transaction fell through and my money was refunded, which disappointed me no end , so I was forced to soldier on. With the news that Classe was closing down I was hit hard, no more Classe meant that when I was ready for it there might not be a Sigma 2200i ready for me. Then came the news that Classe was being bought, followed by the news that the Sigma range was probably not going to be continued, which made me happy initially but then just as sad. It looked like there would be no Sigma 2200i for me. So I was pretty damn happy when one popped up on SNA for the same price I was willing to pay via ebay. After all, this is the integrated amp that sits at number one on my list of favourite all time amplifiers. So, to celebrate my acquiring of what is highly likely to be my end game integrated amp * I've decided to release the scores I awarded it in my initial review. I didn't put them in to the initial write up as that sort of thing is just not done in official reviews. But, just because the scores I give to each and every amp I review may never see the light of day in any official capacity doesn't mean I don't evaluate and award them in the first place. They just stay on my sheet of notes. However now that I'm an owner it's less official and more personal, so those numbers are about to be set free. I'm going to see if I can copy the original review and then add in the numbers in the next post. Hope this works. * Yeah I know, I didn't think it would ever happen either.
  2. Item: Classe Sigma 2200i Integrated 200w Amplifier/Dac/HDMI RRP $7500.00 Location: Perth Price: $3500.00 Item Condition: 8/10 Ex Demo Reason for selling: Keeping my 50w Class A Integrated as I am unable to keep both. Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only Extra Info: I bought the Classe Sigma in March from West Coast hifi for $3500.00 on sale as an ex Demo whilst my Gold Note Integrated was in the shop being repaired. This is an outstanding performer with 200w at 8 ohm. Ity has bass management for your subwoofer and also has a comprehensive 6 way EQ function. Both Bass management and EQ can be adjusted to any HZ. I have shown photos of the settings I currently have set up with my Morel DIY 3 way bookshelves. I believe the adjustment is up to +3db. This is a fun Integrated if you like to fiddle a bit, if not just keep the settings set as factory settings. It has a built in Dac as well as HDMI inputs for 2.1 movies watching. It has a very user friendly app to control things like volume-bass-treble-filter-source-configuration. There is a great 15 min instructional video on Youtube for those interested. It does not come with a remote control but app replaces the remote, nor does it come with a CLasse Sigma 2200i box as West Coast supplied it in a Classe AMP2 box. I am asking $3500.00 for the Integrated as this is what I paid only a couple of months ago and am passing on the savings to someone else. Their are a couple of surface scratches on the casing which is pretty much standard fair when purchasing ex demo hifi goods from hifi outlets as such massive discounts. No marks on the facia though. More than happy to demo to Perth locals and can ship for roughly $50 insured. Photos: Advertisements without photos of the actual item will not be approved.

Item: Silver Classe Fifteen Power Amp Location: Footscray, Melbourne Price: $1250 Item Condition: Good, has a scratch on one front handle Reason for selling: NLR Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only Extra Info: Prefer pickup, it's a big, heavy unit. Just had it recapped at CVE electronics, brought them back and plugged them in to make sure everything sounded fine and then have not used them at all, my new amp got plugged straight back in Apologies for the yellow tinge to the pics. Pictures: There have been quite a few people asking for the cost of sending the amp out of Melbourne. I do not have a box for it and it is quite a heavy amp. That being said I am happy to drop it off at a pack and send or similar if the buyer wants to organise and pay for that. Dimensions: 17.25" (431.25mm) W by 7.25" (181.25mm) H by 19" (475mm) D. 6. I own a Classe Audio DR-9 and it has buzzing sound. I bought this from a friend of mine and it seems that he’d changed the transistors with the inappropriate ones. I need to change those transistors with the proper ones yet, I don’t know the types. Can someone tell me what is the original type of transistors used?

  19. The June meeting of the Sydney Audio Club sees us once again at Dence Park for an afternoon of fine music and sound and convivial company. Each month, the Sydney Audio Club presents the finest in high end audio systems for our members and guests. It's a bit like a private audio show once a month where you can hear and discuss equipment that you might not otherwise have the chance to audition. And you can bring along your own music to test the capabilities of the system or to just share with like-minded music lovers in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. This month, computer audio will take centre stage. No doubt you’ve noticed there are fewer and fewer shops where you can buy CDs/SACDs and vinyl these days – it is expected that that will only get worse. Downloads are very prevalent now, and thanks to sites such as HD Tracks you can download high-res music. Whether you are already a computer audio whiz or a newbie considering it all, don’t miss this meeting. We will have a plethora of DACs and USB converters powered by an Ultrabook front-end. The equipment line up is as follows: Wyred4Sound DAC2 – The DAC2 utilizes the famous ESS Reference Audio 32 bit DAC. Provides 24-bit 192kHz Asynchronous USB input, proprietary discrete output stages, ESS Time Jitter Domain Eliminator, fully balanced design with balanced inputs and balanced outputs, upgradable boards and oversized toroidal transformer. Bryston BDA-1 DAC – The BDA-1 is a state-of-the-art external DAC using fully discrete Class-A proprietary Bryston analog circuits, two independent linear power supplies and dual Crystal CS-4398 DAC chips. It features an impressive array of inputs for USB, COAX, OPTICAL, AES-EBU and BNC equipped digital devices. For audio outputs, the BDA-1 offers both balanced XLR as well as unbalanced RCA stereo connectors on the rear panel. The BDA-1 is RS-232 software upgradeable. Bryston BDP-1 Digital Music Player - The BDP-1 focuses solely on playing high resolution files and will support 16 and 24-bit word lengths and 44.1, 48, 88.2, 96, 176.4 and 192kHz sampling frequencies. It accesses these digital files from any USB device – either thumb-drive or hard-drive. The easiest way to understand the BDP-1 is to think of it as a 21st century updated CD player. Instead of CD’s as the music source though, it utilizes USB thumb drives or USB hard-drives as the music storage source. Empirical Audio Off-Ramp 5 USB Converter – The Off-Ramp 5 is a fifth-generation product that supports sample-rates of up to 24/192 and uses Asynchronous USB protocol for reduced jitter. The Off-Ramp 5 also includes an HDMI I2S output, so that DACs with these inputs (such as the W4S DAC2) can be driven directly avoiding S/PDIF conversions. Toshiba Ultrabook with Windows 7 and SSD running JRiver Media Centre. Dell 27†Ultra HD display panel. Oppo BDP-95 Universal player. Wyred4Sound STP-SE preamp. Classe CA400 stereo amplifier – 400wpc into 8 ohms. B&W 801 Series 2 speakers. As usual, the second half of the music sessions will be BYO. Members and guests are welcome to offer music to share with us all. So bring along your favourite music on CD/DVD-A/Bluray (audio only) or USB flash drives - sorry, no vinyl this month. All we ask is that the music and recordings be interesting. We'll ask you to tell us a little about the artist/recording before it is played. Tracks over 6 minutes will be faded out, to give everyone a fair go. Whether you are a novice or a seasoned veteran, you will have the opportunity to listen, learn and share your experiences with others of a similar mind. Members and Guests welcome – we are a very friendly club so you don't need to know anyone to join us for an afternoon of fine music and sound. We will welcome you at the door. Venue: Epping Creative Centre Address: 26 Stanley St, Epping Doors open 1pm Meeting starts at 2pm Best regards, Tom Waters President Sydney Audio Club www.sydneyaudioclub.org.au tomwaters@sydneyaudioclub.org.au
