  2. Item: Cambridge Azur 840c CD Player Location: Len Wallis Audio HQ, 64 Burns Bay Road, Lane Cove Price: Was $950 SN Member's Special $590 Item Condition: Very good secondhand condition Payment Method: Credit Cards, Cash, Paypal, Bank Transfer, ZipPay Shipping: Anywhere in Federation Space Extra Info: Update 26.04.2019 now relisted as the buyer changed his mind Many a kind word has been written about the 840c (and the Azur line up generally). This one is in very good secondhand condition and has superb sonic potential. Technically speaking the 840c offers such tricks such as ATFTM (Adaptive Time Filtering) asynchronous up-sampling technology; that wins acronym of the week btw. ATFTM allows for interpolation of 16-bit/44.1kHz CD data to 24-bit/384kHz data, via a 32-bit Analog Devices Black Fin DSP , which switches to the two (2) x 24-bit/384kHz DACs in dual differential formation. Each DAC manages one channel for excellent stereo imaging, operating fully in differential mode for exceptionally low distortion and noise. There are unbalanced RCA and balanced XLR outputs. Two digital inputs allowing for the up-sampling / playback of other sources such as a DVD player via the Azur 840C. There is also a Control Bus In/Out, an IR emitter in connection and an RS232 port are provided for easy multi-room connectivity. (note: we've plastic shrink wrapped the unit for protection which is why the finish may look a little strange in pictures) Pictures:

At the heart of the CXC is Cambridge Audio's legendary ‘S3’ servo design. Designed for efficient recovery of CD digital data with state of the art error correction it’s been engineered to play audio CDs brilliantly. Multi-purpose drives simply can’t compete. The design was developed for Cambridge's flagship 851C CD player, giving minimal disc jitter and excellent error correction for precise and accurate playback of CDs. Specs and Features: DIGITAL AUDIO OUTPUTS: S/PDIF coaxial and TOSLINK optical S/PDIF OUTPUT IMPEDANCE: <75ohms MAX POWER CONSUMPTION: 25 W STANDBY POWER CONSUMPTION: <0.5W DIMENSIONS (H x W x D): 85mm x 430mm x 315mm (3.1" x 16.9" x 12.4”) WEIGHT: 4.7kg (10.3lbs) GAPLESS PLAYBACK: Yes Condition: New Open Box Ex Display Unit. 4. Item: Cambridge Audio 640A v2 intergrated Location: Mount Martha 3934 Price: $230.00 Item Condition: Good Reason for selling: Arcam A29 Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Extra Info: Purchased from Musicman in December 2018 as a temporary fix until I found a new amp. It has hardly been used (10-20 hours). Refer prior ad regarding low usage. ( pics show slight tarnish on lid & smudge marks on volume knob) I’m sure they could be cleaned up with a little T.L.C. (quote) The remote worked when purchased, I never used it, however when I tested last week it wasn't, hence the price drop. All other functionality works as expected. Despite being rated at 75wpc it killed our 90wpc AVR. Easily drove a pair of interdyn Bt2 floor standers. Enjoyed this amp during it's short time in use. No box so won't post. Prefer audition and pickup. Pictures:
  5. Item: Cambridge Audio 640R - Silver, with 2nd Zone KP10 & PS10 (keypad/power supply) Location: Melbourne Price: $600 for the lot Item Condition: Excellent - 640R remote has some button text wear Reason for selling: No longer used Payment Method: Pickup (heavy!) - Cash, Paypal, Direct Deposit Extra Info: I am sure most people familiar with CA have an idea of what the 640R is capable of - excellent multichannel AVR and a very competent stereo amplifier in its own right. The limitation is its HDMI inputs which are passthrough only - no decoding of any kind of digital audio, regardless of legacy DD/DTS or newer DD-THD/DTS-MA. Will pass through all video resolutions fine, but with no conversion or scaling i.e. Component in -> component out. The KP10 & PS10 allows the 640R to have a second active zone option through the A-BUS system. You need to run Cat5e (Stranded only, found that out the hard way) to the keypad from the 640R and the speakers run directly from the keypad. PS10 powers the keypad over the Cat5e from the 640R unit, so no power required at the keypad end. I picked this up and had going very briefly with a set of outdoors for zone 2, but then rental situation changed and now in a brick walled house. All boxed, with manuals. Further reading here

  10. Hi everyone. I'm running the auralic vega. I have the cxn cambridge streamer fed into it. I would like to know a few things. When i feed the camb streamer into my dac, it shows up as 44.1 as thats what tidal outputs. But when i use usb from mac (running desktop tidal) to vega dac it upsamples it to 384 as opposed to standard. I can hear the sound as more detailed. Alot of seperation around the bass and instrumemts etc. My question is, if i were to buy the auralic aries and run into my dac via usb not like cambridge via coaxial will it still upsample to my dac like the mac does? Also would the aries be more superior than the mac? As im sure it should be to the cambridge? Any info would be great.

  13. Good morning everyone. First time thread for me and thank you all in advance for reading and commenting/advising. I have done a little searching for similar threads in relation to DAC vs Pre-amp etc and found some knowledgeable advice however I though I would decide to specify exactly what I have so any posters out there had similar spec'd equipment & can share their experiences. I have recently purchased an Emotiva XPA2 Gen 1 for a bargain price and also have a Cambridge DAC Magic Plus, Pioneer N30 Network player and a set of Polk RTiA9 speakers. So basically, I wand to connect the N30 Coax out to the Cambridge Coax in and the analogue XLR outs to the XLR in into the Emotiva and bi-wired connected to the Polks. I believe that the Emotiva earlier Gen amps had an higher input sensitivity and may work well with only the DAC Magic Plus as the pre-amp considering it has a volume control. I normally crank the music up very loud hence not too worried about the digital volume control (not sure if it is but I assume) being low level. What are your thoughts? Do you think the DAC is enough or should I get a Preamp? Cheers

  19. Item: Cambridge 840A V1 Integrated Amplifier Location: Blue Mountains, NSW Price: $490 + postage Item Condition: Very Good Reason for selling: No longer required Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only Extra Info: See below Pictures: See Below Up for sale is a Cambridge 840A V1 integrated amplifier. This amp was the first of the Cambridge flagship amps and features an oversized torodial transformer, 120W / channel into 8 ohms, a digital display, 7 RCA inputs plus the option of a balanced input. There is a pre amp connection for a subwoofer or a power amplifier, a HT bypass option, and the Cambridge can be used to run multiple rooms through its A-BUS ready outputs. I purchased the unit as demo stock from the Australian distributor Synergy Audio in 2013. I used the amplifier in my system for about a year before upgrading. Apart from lending it to a friend for a few months, it has sat in my cupboard ever since. As far as service history goes, the amp was repaired under warranty a couple of years ago when the volume pot had an issue and the problem has never resurfaced. Recently I have tested it in my system and it sounds great in two – channel mode and in HT bypass. The unit comes with a remote control and an instruction manual (which is marked V2 but I don’t believe there is any functional difference between models, just electronic changes). The unit is in great shape with only a few minor cosmetic marks on the top of the amp. I have the original packaging and can post at buyer’s expense. http://www.techradar.com/reviews/audio-visual/hi-fi-and-audio/amplifiers/cambridge-audio-azur-840a-279351/review

  22. Hi Everyone, After the success of my last question I am need of everyone's assistance again. It's time for my next addition to my HT/Hifi System. Currently I am using the setup for both music and movies, both of which I am generally streaming from a network. So what should come first, a good music streamer, dac or combo, or a good blu-ray with streaming capabilities. The 2 items on the hit list is the Oppo https://www.oppodigital.com/blu-ray-bdp-103/blu-ray-BDP-103D-Overview.aspx and the Cambridge CXN http://www.cambridgeaudio.com/products/cx/cxn I have heard only good things about the Oppo and I am pretty settled on this unless someone else has other opinions. Regarding the CXN, this is only new and I havent found much in the way of reviews. Has anyone got one/demoed one? I went to the local store over the weekend however they didn't have one set up, nor had they demoed it themselves. Currently the setup includes the following: 1. Denon AVR-2313 2. Q Acoustics Concept 20 fronts 3. Q Acoustics 2010i rear 4. Q Acoustics 2000i centre 5. SVS PB-1000 sub (as recommended by the population) 6. Samsung BD-H6500 Blu-Ray Your advice is once again truly valued. Cheers DC
