  1. Hi, This week I had some time and a temp room to test setting up my ML Montis speakers. These speakers are a bipolar type and require some air to perform. I ended up having them sitting 120cm away from the back wall. Anything closer and they sound dull and out of focus, but I found this out of focus, can be fixed with some absorption panels. I did found that when the speakers are placed at a proper distance from the walls that absorption does more harm than good. I wonder what can be done with refraction panels which I haven't been able to test since I don't own them. When we convert the 120cm distance into time, it roughly translates into 3.5ms of delay, x2 for traveling back and fort from that wall, and you end up with a reflection delayed by about 7ms. I did pick this up from the Audio Physic website about setting up speakers; "The spatial information relating to a sound source is mainly detected by the brain in the first 5 milliseconds, everything which follows will at first be ignored. Sound travels at 1.7 metres (5.6 ft) in five milliseconds. If the sound of a reflection has to travel 1.7 m (5.6 ft) more than the direct sound of the source, then it will have no influence on our spatialerception." So what is actually going on and what forces are at play? I find at 120cm from the back wall that the speakers create an ambient presence that is very pleasing and realistic, but what am I "ignoring" then? What have other people found out and tried while setting up their bipolar speakers, and what was the result?
  2. Item: Up for sale are my beloved Def Techs, which have served me well for the last few years and the only reason I'm selling is that I have moved into an Apartment. Please read the reviews on these speakers, they truly are fantastic. These speakers are very good looking and have the partner acceptance factor when it comes to cosmetics. The Mythos STS is a slender tower that stands on a real granite base to aid in levelling and isolating the speaker from the floor. The sound out of these speakers is exceptional due to the inbuilt subwoofers and the towers come in a highly polished silver aluminium monocogue case. Location: Concord, Sydney Price: $1950 (RRP $4,995) Item Condition: Excellent Reason for selling: Moved into Apartment Payment Method: Pickup - Paypal, COD Only Extra Info: Pickup only due to weight
