  4. Hi I have recently purchased an Anthem MRX 720 AVR however i need another 2 channel amp to power my two additional outdoor speakers. My speakers are PSB CS1000 https://www.westcoasthifi.com.au/product/psb-cs1000-outdoor-speakers/ They are way too overkill for outdoors due to neighbours and not being able to talk so I dont need to play them really loud etc. Any recommendations for a 2 channel amp to connect to my Anthem to power these? I used my Anthem currently to power 2 x floor standing speakers, center, sub and 4 x In ceiling speakers. Cheers

  10. Item: Yamaha RX-V667 7.2 AVR with Remote and YPAO Microphone. Location: Gembrook or Knoxfield, VIC Price: $175 Item Condition: Very good. Fully functional. Some marks on the top cover and right-hand side as shown in the photos. Reason for selling: Updated. No longer required. Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only. Happy to post at buyers expense. I am very fussy with packing to make sure items arrive intact. Extra Info: Great AVR with 6 HDMI inputs, support for the HD Audio formats and some I/O options not now provided on the newer models such as full 7.1 Pre-outs, 7.1 analogue inputs and Zone 2 capability. Amp assignment allows two of the power amps to be assigned to Zone 2 duties or for bi-amping the front mains if only 5.1 is utilized in Zone 1. Discrete class A/B amplification was re-introduced in this model after the luke-warm reception to the previous RX-V665 which used power amp modules. I used this unit for HT switching, processing and Centre/Rear amplification in my main system until it was replaced recently with a new Marantz NR-1508 to get the networking, remote app and Heos features. It was relegated to 2-Channel duties in the family room, but has now been replaced there by a recently acquired Audiolab 8000A / 8000T combo and I can't justify having it sitting around gathering dust. SPECS & FEATURES. POWER: 90W RMS/Channel using discrete Class A/B Amplification. VIDEO INPUTS: 6x HDMI, 5x Composite, 1x S-Video, 2x Component. AUDIO INPUTS: 1x Calibration Microphone Input, 6x Stereo RCA, 1x Multichannel (7.1) RCA, 2x Optical S/PDIF, 2x Coaxial S/PDIF. VIDEO OUTPUTS: 1x HDMI, 2x Composite, 1x Component. DIMENSIONS (W x H x D): 435 x 151 x 364 mm WEIGHT: 10.5 kg Pictures:

  12. Item: Marantz NR-1501 7.1 Channel Slimline AVR (Black) Location: Gembrook or Knoxfield, VIC Price: $150 $140 Item Condition: Very good. Reason for selling: Updated to NR-1508 for new features. Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only. Happy to pack really well and post at buyers expense. Extra Info: I bought this for my daughter when they moved into their home, but they didn't want to run speaker cables, so opted for a Yamaha sound-bar system. So I happily kept it to replace an old Yamaha Receiver. Recently upgraded to the NR-1508 while they were on clearance, so this unit is no longer required. Comes with all accessories including the setup microphone, AM loop antenna, remote, etc. Supports HDMI V1.3a along with Dolby TrueHD, Dolby Digital Plus and DTS-HD. Lots of features. Please follow link for details. https://www.qualifi.com.au/product/Marantz/NR1501/56719 Pictures:
  13. Item: Cambridge Audio 640R - Silver, with 2nd Zone KP10 & PS10 (keypad/power supply) Location: Melbourne Price: $600 for the lot Item Condition: Excellent - 640R remote has some button text wear Reason for selling: No longer used Payment Method: Pickup (heavy!) - Cash, Paypal, Direct Deposit Extra Info: I am sure most people familiar with CA have an idea of what the 640R is capable of - excellent multichannel AVR and a very competent stereo amplifier in its own right. The limitation is its HDMI inputs which are passthrough only - no decoding of any kind of digital audio, regardless of legacy DD/DTS or newer DD-THD/DTS-MA. Will pass through all video resolutions fine, but with no conversion or scaling i.e. Component in -> component out. The KP10 & PS10 allows the 640R to have a second active zone option through the A-BUS system. You need to run Cat5e (Stranded only, found that out the hard way) to the keypad from the 640R and the speakers run directly from the keypad. PS10 powers the keypad over the Cat5e from the 640R unit, so no power required at the keypad end. I picked this up and had going very briefly with a set of outdoors for zone 2, but then rental situation changed and now in a brick walled house. All boxed, with manuals. Further reading here

  16. Hi All, Looking for some advise as I am thinking of upgrading my NAD D3020 into a receiver, Either a: Yamaha RX-V685 Sony STR DN1080 Denon X1500H I would like to get some opinions or experiences from anyone who has gone through the same pathway from an integrated amp to an av receiver. I was wondering if the NAD D3020 would still be better for stereo music listening as compared to an AV receiver? Thanks!

  21. Introduction Had the opportunity to test a friend's MRX-1120 on my 5.2 setup and compared it my MRX-710. Fed using an Oppo 103, with separate video and audio hdmi channels into the 1120. Due to time constraints and home network & PC issues, Anthem Room Correction (ARC) was not run. Decided to focus on music because it was a more difficult challenge and allowed us to also compare against a 2 channel Giesler Groß DAC setup. Note that the 5.2 and 2.2 systems shared the same SGR Audio CX3Bs (Mk1) mains and SVS SB13U, SB2000 subs. Surprise No. 1 The 1120 beat the 710 hands down for both multi channel and 2 channel music. The DACs and analogue circuitry on the 1120 were far superior with improved clarity and detail. We did not even need to switch to the 710 to compare; the 1120 won easily. Gjeilo: North Country II and Arnesen: Magnificat 4 (both on 2L label) were used for the comparison. Had we had more time, we would have used other non-classical pieces, but such was the difference that we were confident that the 1120 was better for music, full stop. Surprise No. 2 The 1120 came close to the Giesler Groß DAC for PCM. Playing North Country II, 2.0 LPCM 24/192 on the 1120 almost matched the 24/96 PCM on the Groß. There was slightly more detail and clarity on the Groß but what was unexpected was how close the 1120 got to the Groß. However, the Groß with the DSD 64 version of North Country II was the best and took things to another level. With Magnificat 4 5.1 DTS HDMA 24/192 on the 1120, there was more ambience, and from behind, better organ and piano. However, with the Groß, Magnificat 4 DSD 64 had more detail, clarity and presented such a wide sound stage that it almost made up for the lack of rear speakers. It was that good! Note no DSD decoding on Anthem products; ARC worked only with PCM. Conclusions Can recommend with confidence the Anthem MRX-1120 for music. By implication, the 520 and 720 are also good for music, with the same DAC chip, analogue circuitry but with a non-toroidal power supply. Even more compelling is the AVM60, with better analogue to digital converters and quieter circuitry. Would expect the AVM60 to match PCM playback with the Groß. For superior 2 channel, go with the Groß DAC or equally as good DACs. But do not despair if you only have the MRX-1120; PCM reproduction will match many good 2 channel DACs. What about the MRX-710 (& 510, 310)? Would recommend them for movies and less for music. Music is ok but not to discerning levels. Movies? I would expect the MRX-520, 720, 1120 to excel with movies, and provide better audio than the "10 family", but the improvement will not be as much as music.

  25. Hi All. Hope this is in the right area. I have a Denon AVR-X1300W AVR, I use this on my desktop as a Stereo Receiver. I also have a Creative Sound Blaster X7 DAC/AMP, I use this for Headphones and real small bookshelfs for night time listening. My PC's internal sound card is a Creative ZxR. 2 sets of speakers, one larger than the other, Larger set used with Subwoofer, smaller set on separate AMP for direct 2 channel listening with no Sub woofer. Set of KriX KDM-Mains on AVR with Sub and Krix Equinox on X7 in Direct Mode. Also have a set of Dali Zensor 1's down stairs. Now before I ask the questions, I am not double Amping or chaining DAC's, so don't think that please. My questions are as follows. What connections into the AVR will give best sound quality? ZxR to AVR through Optical? Analog? Or skip ZxR and use the X7 pre-outs (Direct Mode) into AVR? Can be Optical or Analog there too. Or even use the X7's DAC, go analog into AVR and turn Direct Mode on (With LFE+Main on as Sub won't work in direct if that ain't on) Is it ok to put smaller speakers on top of bigger speakers with vibration pads between, but only run one set at a time? The Ohm setting on the X1300, my speakers are 6 Ohms, but I read you leave the AVR at 8 Ohm anyway? Thank you for any help!! Will happily take any other suggestions as well.
