  1. Item: Audio Note DAC 2.1 level C Location: St Kilda VIC Price: 1700 Item Condition: Used Reason for selling: Surplus Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only. Can post. Extra Info: Audio Note Kits DAC 2.1 level C. Audio Note's highly regarded 1x oversampling approach with an Analogue Devices 1865 dac chip and transformer coupling. These DACs are as musical as all get out and often referred to as having that "analogue" sound. For a time this was known as the DAC 3.1 and now the closest new kit is the DAC 2.1 Signature. Currently US $1650 as a kit. This is an early kit so it still contains Audio Note parts. It is built with genuine Audio Note Tantalum resistors, and in the power supply a combination of Audio Note copper, Kasei (newly upgraded) and Black Gate capacitors, and Mundorf M-Tube caps. Signal board caps are Black Gate and Jupiter bees wax signal caps. Valves are all relatively new and currently Tung-Sol 6x5, Phillips 5687, and Siemens ECL 82. A USB board is available from ANKits and there is plenty of potential to tinker with these to get the sound dialed-in to your liking. Configured with AES and BNC inputs which could easily be changed to an RCA. 2. Item: AUDIO NOTE-KONDO io cartridge Location: Inner Melbourne Price: $3600 (price drop) Item Condition: excellent Reason for selling: surplus Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only Extra Info: An early example of Audio Note-Kondo io mc phono cartridge. I purchased this from Japan and had the cartridge checked and retipped by ANA Mighty sound in France. Retipped with Van del haul stylus. Damper have been checked and suspension rebuilt. So this is literally a New cartridge. Played for about 10 hours for testing since rebuilt. They are quite rare and hardly come up for sale. The cost of the rebuilt alone is in excess of $2000. I have quite a few cartridges so just have to let go some to better home. Known as one of the best low output mc cartridge designed by Kondo san. Output 0.1 mv with 1 ohm impedance so will work with a minimum of x30 step up ratio and high gain phono stage. ANA mighty sound is highly reputable cartridge repairer and builder in France. Their Sculpture A3 cartridges were used by Thomas Schick, Frank Schroeder in Sibatone (western electric), Vitus and Thrax demo rooms among others in the recent 2019 Munich high end show. Additional info for those interested: http://anamightysound.com/ https://www.tonepublications.com/analogaholic/ana-mighty-sound/ François from Ana mighty have repaired and rebuilt Koetsu and SPU for me previously. They are always careful to ensure the original sound signature of the cartridge design are retained, especially for the classics like koetsu and AN/Kondo. 3. Items: 1) Audio Note DAC1 Signature 2) Audio Note M1 Pre-Amplifier 3) Audio Note Quest Single Ended 300B Monoblock Valve Power Amplifiers (Pair) Location: Camberwell, Vic 3124. Pickup only or you are welcome to arrange your own courier. Condition: Very Good – no major scratches or dents. Price: 1) DAC1 Signature = $1000 2) M1 Pre-Amplifier = $1000 3) 300B Monoblock Amplifiers (Pair) = $4750 All items were purchased about 12 years ago from a store called Absolute High End in Hawthorn, Vic. The store is no longer there, but I still have the receipts. I wasn't sure how to price these so I've set a price at 50% of what was listed in those receipts, which I thought would be fair and reasonable. Note that I’m happy to sell them individually or, if anybody is interested you can buy them as a whole package and I’ll take $500 off (so it would be $6250 for the lot). Reason for selling: Am actually reluctantly selling as these were originally bought by my father who is no longer with us. However I find that nowadays I very rarely sit down to play a CD (as sad as that sounds) so this equipment is simply not getting the listening that it deserves. Music in my house plays in multiple rooms from a variety of digital sources ranging from internet streaming through to networked attached storage. So I’ve decided to reconfigure my audio setup to suit life. Payment: Paypal or Cash on Pickup Info: As you would expect from Audio Note, this system (in my less than expert opinion) is beautifully sweet sounding. The clarity and detail is not lost, but somehow everything just softens like a warm blanket. I’ve also found that this system (i.e. the combination of these three specific components) seem to complement each other beautifully. I’ve tried swapping a different DAC or a different AMP in the past, but have always ended up back with these three together. It’s like they were made for each other (which I guess was Audio Note’s intention!). Photos: Advertisements without photos of the actual item will not be approved.

  6. Hello, I have been using a phono amp (no brand name) with tubes 12 AX7's. Two of the tubes are the Mullard 10M Master Series. I was having the switch replaced by my technician and he checked the circuitry and tubes. After repairing the switch, he showed me that the phono amp was producing a curve that was 'cut off' at the top. He lent me an Audio Note phono stage (with different tubes) so that I could compare the 'smoothness' of the sound. Sure enough, the sound was sweeter and smoother! He said that the anamoly could be the design of the phono stage otherwise maybe difficult to say. The tubes are all in excellent condition. My question: 1. Does anyone have another suggestion as to why the upper end of the curve is 'cut off' that produces a less than smooth sound? 2. If I were to upgrade my phono to solve this problem, then I would like to keep using my own tubes ie12AX7's Which brands/makes would anyone recommend that uses 12AX7's. Can Audio Note phonos use 12AX7's? Thx for any comments, Bob
  7. Item: Audio Note P2SE Power Amplifier with External Power Supply Unit Location: Perth WA (Prefer local buyer as these are very heavy, but can pack safely for interstate buyers if they arrange their own transport) Price: $2,500 (Firm) with a donation to SNA Item Condition: Very good relative to age Reason for selling: Selling for a friend who has upgraded to 300B PSE Mono Blocks Payment Method: Cash on pick up for locals with direct deposit if shipping interstate. Extra Info: Please do not let the looks fool you, this is a serious single ended Class A amplifier. · This unit was previously owned by me hence the reason I am helping out a good friend to sell. · It was purchased as a used stock Audio Note P2SE from Audio Synergy in Perth back in about 2004 and it sounded very good, it now sounds amazing with the external power supply unit and upgraded bits fitted by Audio Synergy. · Those that know Audio Synergy will understand what Clifford can do with valve rectified power supplies. · This baby produces 18 glorious watts of Class A goodness, which means more speaker options (and loudness if that is what you desire, I never found it necessary to crank the volume, as the dynamics where available from the very first watt). · The external PSU means you can keep power away from signal and provide loads of quality grunt to control most normal speaker loads (it has been used for a while with 87 db Proac Tablette 2000 and Usher Dancer Mini X and both sounded great). · The PSU (refer pics) uses 2 x Philips Miniwatt 5AR4 CV1377 NOS 1962 (1 per channel) and is choke smoothed and connected to the signal unit by 2 leads which attach at rear. It’s all housed in an old AN DAC 1 box. · The Signal unit has 2 x 6SL7 (NOS Sylvania) feeding 2 pairs of 6L6 tubes (hence Parallel single ended - refer photo). It has both 4 & 8 Ohm taps. · A pre amp is not required as this unit has a volume control, however I would recommend using a valve Pre amp to get the best out of the unit. · Please PM me for any questions you may have and I am sure that an audition will not disappoint. · Spare valves are included in the sale price – all up you will get - 3 quads of 6L6 , 2 pairs 5AR4 and 2 pairs 6SL7. · I am not sure if the electrical disclaimer is required as I did not modify this unit myself, but it is included. ELECTRICAL DISCLAIMER This product has not been manufactured by a qualified individual or company, therefore contains electrical circuits that do not necessarily comply with Australian Standards. I understand that as the seller, I may be liable to repercussions in the event of equipment failure. By advertising and selling this product, as the seller I also agree that I am solely liable, and the publisher of this website takes no responsibility for any injury or death resulting from, whether directly or indirectly, any accident that may happen as a result of the failure of the product being sold. If in doubt, seek the services of a qualified electrician to inspect the product to ensure it is safe for use. Pictures:
  8. Item: Audio Note P2 PP and Border Patrol PSULocation: Chadstone, Melbourne Price: $800 Item Condition: OK. Reason for selling: Not needed Payment Method: Pickup - Cash Extra Info: Bought this amp from another member recently (listing is below); thinking that I will get this mended and get a matching preamp. However, I have committed to buying something new from Audio Note when this amp was with Dallas. The sale price is cost of the amp from the below list (bargain...) plus the cost of repair from Dallas Clarke Audio. I have hooked the amp up tonight and its working without issues. Dallas had tested the amp before charging me. As per below listing, the PSU is worth 4k+ AUD, I am happy to pass this bargain on. I have not touched the tubes, but they have tested by Dallas. They all tested above average.
  9. The March 2014 meeting of the Sydney Audio Club sees us once again at Dence Park for an afternoon of fine music and sound and convivial company. Each month, the Sydney Audio Club presents the finest in high end audio systems for our members and guests. It's a bit like a private audio show once a month where you can hear and discuss equipment that you might not otherwise have the chance to audition. And you can bring along your own music to test the capabilities of the system or to just share with like-minded music lovers in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. For March, we have a great system from Audio Note UK presented by Bryan Fletcher of Finn Bespoke Technology Pty Ltd, the Australian distributor for Audio Note UK. Please refer to http://www.audionote.com.au/Audio_Note_Australia.html. Bryan will be presenting the same system that was presented at the Australian Audio and AV Show in October last year. Detail of that system and some photos can be seen at http://www.audionote.com.au/2013_Melbourne_HiFi_Show.html. So if you missed it then, now is your opportunity to hear it..! Bryan is a very amicable fellow - I’m sure you’ll find his presentation to be both informational and entertaining. The equipment line-up will be as follows: Audio Note CDT 3 Transport with the Black Pallas Digital cable. (Refer to http://www.audionote.co.uk/products/digital/cdt_three_01.shtml). To quote Audio Note UK from their web site... “The Audio Note CDT 3 transport has a top loading, custom modified Philips CD Pro2LF CD mechanism, power supply with 3 separate mains transformers, Audio Note AN-Vx silver cable for internal digital signal transfer, silver wired digital output transformer using thin laminated core, Audio Note Tantalum resistors.†Audio Note DAC 4 Balanced with Sootto Interconnect. (Refer to http://www.audionote.co.uk/products/digital/dac_4.1x_sig_01.shtml). If you are curious, Sooto stands for “SO Over The TOp!â€. (It has 120 strands of pure silver strands in each conductor, split between 3 different wire gauges. Yes, it’s expensive!) Audio Note M6 Preamp with Sootto Balanced Interconnect. (Refer to http://www.audionote.co.uk/products/preamp/m6_01.shtml). To again quote Audio Note UK from their web site... “Level Four line pre-amplifier, with Audio Noteâ„¢ 1 watt tantalum resistors, Audio Noteâ„¢ silver wiring, 5687 line stage with novel power supply design based on the patented M10, 6X5, OB2, ECL82, Black Gateâ„¢ WKz filter caps, Audio Noteâ„¢ in-house designed and wound output transformers with copper primary and an Audio Noteâ„¢ silver wired secondary on an 0.1 mm Audio Noteâ„¢ AN-Perma 50 nickel double C-cores.Phono version has MM phono stage with Audio Note copper foil capacitors and 6072A double triodes.†Audio Note Ongaku Kensei Stereo power amplifier with ELROG 211 Tubes and Sogon LX-96 Speaker cable. The Ongaku Kensei is a fairly new addition (January 2012). It’s based on the Ongaku Integrated, but has no preamp section and has a very high quality balanced input instead. The new manufacture of these German made ELROG 211 tubes are a minor miracle in themselves, refer to http://www.audionote.com.au/NEW_-_Elrog_Tubes.html. Audio Note AN-E Alnico SPe Signature Speakers. (Refer to http://www.audionote.co.uk/products/speakers/an-e_01.shtml). From the UK web site… “The AN-E must be the most efficient wide band speaker of moderate size on the market, with an effective bandwidth from 18 Hz to 23 kHz at -6 dB, efficiency better than 95 dB/m and a dynamic headroom above 108 dB. The extremely high efficiency is retained well over the bandwidth, and makes the AN-E very suited to the high quality, low-power triode amplifiers that will form the future of music reproduction, once our obsession with power and specifications is generally recognized as folly.†The second half of the music sessions will be our popular BYO. Members and guests are welcome to offer music to share with us all. Please note: There will be no turntable, nor will there be any SACD or hi-res playback options. So bring along your favourite music on CD only. All we ask is that the music and recordings be interesting. We'll ask you to tell us a little about the artist/recording before it is played. Tracks over 6 minutes will be faded out, to give everyone a fair go. Whether you are a novice or a seasoned veteran, you will have the opportunity to listen, learn and share your experiences with others of a similar mind. Guests are always welcome – we are a very friendly club so you don't need to know anyone to join us for an afternoon of fine music and sound. We will welcome you at the door. Venue: Epping Creative Centre Address: 26 Stanley St, Epping When: Sunday 9th March 2014 Doors open 1pm Meeting starts at 2pm Best regards, Tom Waters President Sydney Audio Club www.sydneyaudioclub.org.au tomwaters@sydneyaudioclub.org.au
