  3. With a little luck the ATC SIA2-150 review will be completed this weekend. It has been on hold for several weeks now as things popped up that robbed me of time or energy but it seems at least half of this weekend will be free so I'm going to step on the gas and see if I can get this one finished and written up. I know there's at least one SNA'er waiting on it. It isn't a large amp, reasonably weighty though at 20kgs, but it can pump some serious power. As demonstrated at Terry's place it was one of the few amps that we tried on those VA Concert Grand speakers of his that took control and made the speakers perform. This places it in the same category as the Sansui 907 NRA, 907 Limited, ME-240, and Zeus Integrated. And that is some pretty decent company to be in. The ATC suffers a little in my home system in that it doesn't impress as much as it did at Terry's place. I think this is one of those amps that reacts well to being asked to work harder so it will step up on lower impedance speakers. Since my Lenehans are fairly benign in impedance I believe the ATC is coasting a little. Still a very good amp but not quite as "Wow inducing" as it was on those VAs of Terry's. Details to follow once my washing machine has finished it's job and quietened down a bit. There is more info on the ATC SIA2-150 on page 5 of the thread Terry and I started, link below. Some rather nice pics too. https://www.stereo.net.au/forums/topic/263126-terry-o-and-cafads-integrated-amp-challenge/page/5/
  4. I've finally finished my write up on the ATC SIA-150. It's down in the 'Product Reviews & Opinions' section. Link below.

  6. Item: Latest Version ATC SCM11 Standmount Speakers in Black Ash Location: Melbourne Price: $1580 FIRM with donation to SNA. Current RRP $2999. Item Condition: Excellent Reason for selling: Too many speakers. These are probably my favourites at the price, but funds are more important than extra speakers at present. Payment Method: Cash, Bank Transfer or Paypal Extra Info: While nothing needs to be said about the reputation of ATC speakers, the SCM11s are commonly regarded as the sweet spot of their current range. Being an ATC fanatic, I have SCM 7s and SCM 40s which I'd consider selling if these don't move. IMO the SCM11s provide unbeatable freedom from colouration and scale at anything like this price. They display typical ATC accuracy and information retrieval with substantial bass from a moderately sized enclosure, some of the reasons why British reviewers often use them as a reference. This particular pair is as good an example as one could expect from used standmount speakers, perfect in every way apart from minor underside scratching from sitting on stands. They come with original carton, magnetic grilles, manual and all paperwork. Postage at buyer's expense available. Pictures:
  7. The ATC SCM19A Active Speaker 8pm Wednesday 20th February, visitors welcome. Willis Room, City of Whitehorse Offices Maroondah Highway (Whitehorse Road), Nunawading Melway Map 48 Ref G9 Contact: 9437 1249 The Acoustic Transducer Company, ATC for short, is one of a handful of pro-audio companies to have crossed over successfully into the Hi Fi arena. The company was founded back in 1976 by Billy Woodman, an Australian acoustician who developed the famous 3 inch soft dome mid-range driver for professional monitor speakers. Many audiophiles would be very familiar with the domestic range of ATC speakers, with numerous reviews in many magazines. JAG Imports will be presenting at the club the latest active speaker from the new 'Entry Series', the SCM 19A. The least expensive active floorstander in the range, this two way model stands just under a meter high and carries a 182 Watt power pack that is installed in the bottom half of the tower. The 150mm Mid/Bass driver is powered with 150 watts while the 25mm Soft Dome Tweeter receives 32 watts. The Mid/Bass employs ATC's new 'ground-breaking' Super Linear Technology, said to reduce third harmonic distortion by 10-15dB between 100Hz and 3KHz. The tweeter employs a unique dual suspension system suppressing diaphragm rocking modes. Keep in mind that because it is an active design, a number of compromises have been eliminated from their passive twin. With the implementation of an electronic x-over in the amp module, the passive crossover network components have been removed and thus are no longer subjected to vibrations from the internal back wave of the drivers. The biamplified system is able to power the drivers without the significant power losses of a passive network. Separate active circuits can individually control magnitude and phase allowing both to be optimised, and minimising speaker cabling allows you to control the bass driver by maximising the damping factor. The SCM19A is an important addition to ATC's extensive domestic lineup. The combination of power handling, ruggedness and lack of colouration are qualities that make ATC speakers a leading product. This model highlights typical ATC accuracy and information retrieval, with substantial but uncoloured bass from a moderately sized enclosure. These are some of the reasons why they are often used by British reviewers as a reference. 9. Item: ATC SM75-150S Super 3" 16 ohm mids/ATC SB75-375S Super 15" 8 ohm bass pairs Location: Katoomba (Blue Mountains) Price: $1800/$1100 Item Condition: 7/10 and 9/10 mids/9/10 and 9/10 bass Reason for selling: Project that ain't gonna happen! Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, Direct Deposit, credit card, COD Only Extra Info: These sets are the "Super" studio series with the 10kg magnets. One of the mids has a few dents in the dust cup (see photo), and, originally had a slight buzz which was rectified by Alan Daniels. It also has slightly smaller banana plug entry holes than the other one. The mids measure 11 ohms and 12 ohms respectively on a multimeter. The bass drivers have been re-surrounded by Alan Daniels and read 6 ohms and 6 ohms on a multimeter. Although I have all the original packaging, I am not prepared to post them - especially the 15" drivers. If anyone is prepared to take both sets and pick them up, I will offer a 10% discount, otherwise the prices are firm. Pictures:

Item: LATEST VERSION ATC SCM 11 BOOKSHELF SPEAKERS Location: Melbourne Price: $1850 Reduced to $1650 Firm (RRP $2999) Item Condition: Excellent Reason for selling: Too much gear (I'll still have SCM40s and SCM7s, so won't completely miss ATC!) Payment Method: Cash, Bank Transfer, Paypal Extra Info: While nothing needs to be said about the reputation of ATC speakers, the SCM11s are regarded by many as the sweet spot of their current range. Typical ATC accuracy and information retrieval, with substantial but uncoloured bass from a moderately sized enclosure. Payment Method: Cash, Paypal, Bank Transfer Extra Info: Rare opportunity to combine legendary ATC monitors with their matching powerhouse amplifier, both renowned for dynamics and lack of colouration. While nothing needs to be said about the reputation of ATC speakers, the SCM11s at RRP $2999 are regarded by many as the sweet spot of their current range. 12. Item: ATC SCM 40 Floor-standing speakers + solid-metal plinths Location: Inner Sydney Price: 3k picked up, or 3.4k including insured shipping anywhere in AU Item Condition: 9/10 Reason for selling: upgrade Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only Extra Info: Having received a fair bit of interest, these are now for sale and can ship. I purchased these from a fellow SNAer (@mikk) not long ago. After a short demo at his place, I was impressed by the sound quality, particularly by the incredible amount of detail in the mid band, and huge dynamics. Being a sealed design, the speakers work great in my less than perfect living room and they literally measure the same (in the bass region) right against the front wall or at a distance of 1m from it. After years of demos, these were the only speakers that made me sell my Magnepans 1.7, and I demoed stuff up to rrps of $15k. Selling to upgrade to mk2 model (cause wife likes those better), whose retail price of the new model is about $8,800. They come with two massive 40kg solid metal plinths, made to measure by the first owner. These are filled with sand so acoustically dead, but can totally change the soundstage (as in: make it taller) and make the bass even tighter. Both the speakers alone and the plinths have threaded holes for spikes/rubber feet. When you use the plinths, you can screw the speakers to them. The speakers are in as new condition. They come with the original grills which are in more than decent condition. You wouldn't want to keep them on anyway as the sound is better without. Naturally, they got 5 stars of what hifi: https://www.whathifi.com/atc/scm40/review I do not have the boxes, but can post securely in palleted parcel with Pack and send (with insurance up to 3k). Obviously I would not ship the plinths. Pictures:
  13. Item: ATC SCM40 Floorstanders Location: ACT Price: $3500 now $3300 Will donate upon sale. Item Condition: Very good Reason for selling: A few too many speakers in my room bit of an impulse buy these ones and I bought the Spendors next to them a few weeks later, comparing the two I find I'm using the Spendors more that doesn't take anything away from the ATC's it's just what I'm enjoying at this time. Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only Extra Info: They are triwirable and they are supplied without grills you wouldn't use them anyway look awesome with the drivers exposed. I have the original box's but they are huge ATC do go to great lengths to protect their speakers for transit I think the postage would be a bit prohibitive however if someone want's to organise a courier I can box them up, I however would prefer them to be picked up and that way the potential buyer can have a demo before deciding. Open to offers hit me up. They are lovely speakers with excellent reviews all over the net. Pictures:
  14. Item: ATC SCM11 Location: Glen Waverley Price: $900 Item Condition: Excellent Reason for selling: Too big for the room it was intended for Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only Extra Info: Sounded amazing but too large for my very cramped kitchen. Bought from this SNA ad less than 2 weeks ago. Reviews: (spoiler alert... it got 5 stars out of 5) https://www.whathifi.com/atc/scm-11/review UPDATE FAQ 26th Jan 2018: I've had a lot of inquiries and questions so I thought it would be easier to just have a FAQ section. 1. Condition. This unit is in perfect working condition and excellent cosmetic condition. 2. Size and why I am selling and how good the speakers are. There were no issues with this unit except for the fact that the speakers are far too big for my small kitchen. I've since replaced them with inferior Boston Acoustics VS240 units with small 4 inch mid-range drivers. They fit the room better size wise. If I was creating a stereo or home theatre setup with this there is no way I would sell them. I did not put this in my home theatre because I believe in matching and at the moment I have a matching 5.2 setup. Therefore these currently have no use case despite being the best speakers I currently own. 3. Original box. I do not have the original box. The previous owner personally brought them to me. However, I will be able to find an adequate box and pack it nicely (I have a lot of packing material from my constant trading) if required for shipping. I would prefer pick up if possible. I am happy to demo it. 4. Price. I want $900 which is what I paid for it. A very good price in my opinion. I am willing to ship or accept paypal as long as as the buyer covers any and all additional costs. 5. Interest. As mentioned earlier, I have a lot of people messaging me with questions so don't be surprised if it's sold in the middle of our discussion as I will honor the first genuine commitment. Thanks for your interest. Pictures:

NO POSTAGE free personal delivery around Melbourne Pictures:
  16. Item: ATC SCM19s Location: Melbourne, VIC Price: $3,250 Item Condition: 9/10 – only because they’re not new. Reason for selling: Hope to upgrade to active floorstanders but need to sell these first. Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only Extra Info: I was hoping to sell these with the stands and cables, but by popular demand, I’m putting the speakers up on their own. I bought the speakers from Stereophonic in Melbourne on 21/7/2016, so they still have about 4 years and 10 months of their warranty left. The speakers are cherry and in flawless condition and would suit a new buyer. I also have all the original packaging, plus speaker and grill covers and never played them loud as I live in an apartment. There’s not really a lot I can say about the speakers, there’s a million reviews out there and they’re discussed on SNA regularly. What I will say, is that they’re good enough for me to be parting ways with them because the quality of the 19s has given me enough faith in ATC to be climbing the ladder to active towers which is a big investment for me. More than happy to demo to anyone interested, due to weight local pickup would probably be best, but happy to drop off to any courier service in the Melbourne area (preferably south-east) but arrangements/costs/insurance etc. will be the buyer’s responsibility.

  19. Item: ATC SM75-150 Mid Range Driver x2 16ohm Location: Sydney Price: Sale Pending $650 (RRP for a pair UK Pounds ~ 800 Pounds. but no longer sold to public) plus postage Item Condition: Very Good Reason for selling: Trying other drivers Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, Bank Transfer These drivers are considered to be the very best mid range drivers ever! Highly resolving, smooth, with extremely low distortion. Cover a range from 300Hz to 4000Hz. Sensitivty ~ 91dB/W NB. ATC SM75-150 not S version Soft Dome Mid-Range There are few engineering developments in any field that have effected change to the extent that ATC’s Soft Dome Midrange has on the monitoring of sound and particularly of music and voice. First produced in 1976 ATC’s soft dome represents the very best of midrange loudspeaker design and performance combining a smooth response from 350Hz to 3.5KHz, exceptionally low colouration, high power handling capacity, low power compression and high output level. This performance is achieved in ATC’s soft dome drive unit by having a very linear low distortion drive system comprising a 75mm diameter short coil operating in a long magnet gap supported on 2 suspensions to guarantee controlled coil movement, maintain concentricity with the very tight gap-coil clearances and also ensure excellent heat dissipation and power handling. The magnet gap is also in a magnetic circuit that is saturated and therefore not affected by the non-linearity due to hysteresis of the steel used in the magnetic assembly. The dome diaphragm, driven at its edge by the coil-former assembly, is a soft woven fabric impregnated with a viscous damping medium to attenuate unwanted resonances and ensure a smooth response with very low audible colouration. The response of the soft dome diaphragm is further improved by mounting it in a phase correction flange the profile of which is a mirror image of the dome. All of these elements combine to produce a midrange driver of exceptional fidelity and neutrality. ATC’s soft dome midrange is a common element in all ATC three way systems ensuring consistency between models and the best performance money can buy. 21. Hey there, Anyone heard and been impressed with the new ATC series? I had the opportunity to hear the SCM19s, and the SCM40 at Stereophonic and really liked them. Excellent presentation, great detail, although the bass was somewhat muddy. Very keen to go back and have another listen to see/hear if my ears were deceiving me. Neil
  22. Melbourne Audio Club monthly meeting - Bill Woodman from ATC 8pm Wednesday 18th March, visitors welcome. Willis Room, City of Whitehorse Offices Maroondah Highway (Whitehorse Road), Nunawading Melway Map 48 Ref G9 Contact: 9437 1249 This month we are again very fortunate to have Bill Woodman from ATC, a brand that is very well known among recording engineers. He founded the company 40 years ago in Gloucester, building drive units for professional monitor speakers. Audiophiles too would be very familiar with the domestic range of ATC speakers, with numerous reviews in many magazines. The meeting will be another coup for the club, with the arrival on the Australian Hi Fi market of ATC's new three way- active-loudspeaker, the SCM 40A. As with all three way speakers in the ATC line up , this new domestic model is based around the famous 3 inch Soft Domed Mid-Range driver. Now with curved side walls the speaker box has also had a cleanup, eliminating the stepped front baffle. The biggest improvement is the new ATC designed and built Dual Suspension 25mm Soft Domed Tweeter with precision alloy waveguide. To complete the speaker a 164mm bass driver takes care of the lower frequencies. The 3-way design is complemented with a built-in 242 Watt class A/B Tri-Amplifier. The MOSFET based amp, is a modified version of that found in the larger active loudspeakers. JAG Imports, who will be supplying the speaker, will also be providing the audio system for the night. A Linn Klimax DS as the DAC with a NAS drive delivering the music software, controlled with the iPad. Bill Woodman is a legend in loudspeaker circles, his Acoustic Transducer Company continues to expand and gain popularity. Their reputations are on the strength of their products. The combination of power handling, ruggedness and lack of colouration are qualities that make ATC speakers a leading "hi fidelity" product. Who better than the founding director of ATC to introduce to the Melbourne Audio Club a new speaker from their domestic range. Sounds like we will have another great night. 23. Melbourne Audio Club monthly meeting - A night with ATC speakers 8pm Wednesday 15th October, visitors welcome. Willis Room, City of Whitehorse Offices Maroondah Highway (Whitehorse Road), Nunawading Melway Map 48 Ref G9 Contact: 9437 1249 Back in January of this year the club was fortunate to have Billy Woodman from ATC present a talk based around his philosophy and observations on good speaker design. The ATC 75mm (3") soft dome midrange is his most well known product. He founded the company 40 years ago in Gloucester, building drive units for professional monitor speakers and then started making his own. The combination of power handling, ruggedness and lack of coloration have become legendary in both the domestic and professional audio market for ATC speakers. This month's meeting, thanks to JAG Imports, we get hear the updated SCM 40, a three way third generation floor standing speaker. As with all three way speakers in the ATC line up this domestic model is based around the 3" midrange driver. Now with curved side walls the speaker box has also had a cleanup, eliminating the stepped front baffle. The biggest improvement to this model is ATC's new 25mm Tweeter, developed to satisfy the company's long established rigour in driver unit engineering. The tweeter employs a unique, dual suspension system. A short edge-wound voice coil in a long narrow magnet gap ensures low distortion throughout its operating band which removes the need for ferrofluids. To complete the speaker a 164mm bass driver takes care of the lower frequencies. JAG Imports will also be introducing to the Australian market a new range of electronics, LEJONKLOU - made in Sweden designed by Fredrik Lejonklou. Barely known outside his country as recently as 2006, he manufactures pre-amps, power amplifiers and a handful of Phono Pre-Amplifiers designed for MM cartridges. The audio system will consist of a Lejonklou pre-amp and matching mono-block amplifiers. The front end will be a Linn Klimax DS as the DAC with a NAS drive supplying the music all controlled be the humble iPad. Sounds like it's going to be an interesting evening. 24. Hello everyone, I am new to Hi-Fi but am just assembling my first (entry-level) serious system. I just bought a Rotel RA-1520 integrated amplifier and now I am on the lookout for a set of bookshelf speakers that would be a good match. This is for a 10m x 3.6m x 3m quite dead (mostly carpeted) open-plan space. The lady of the house has dictated that floorstanders are not an option. Ultimately I would also be looking to add a subwoofer to the mix to adequately cover the bass. At the moment I am just using a Pro-ject DAC box for input which I will also upgrade down the track. I was thinking to spend $AUD1000-1500 but could stretch to $2000 if there is a significant and justifiable increase in quality. I know that the only way to pick speakers is by auditioning them which I plan to do shortly. However, it would be very helpful to have a list of vetted options on which to focus. There is an incredible number of different options out there. It would also be helpful to get an Australian perspective given the different pricing and availability here. So far I've only listened to the Polk LSiM703 which I thought were excellent. A lot of people talk about B&W being a good match for Rotel (685, CM1, CM5). From other forums, KEF (Q300, R300, R100, LS50), Dynaudio (Excite X12, DM 2/6, DM 2/7), ATC (SCM11) and PMC (DB1i, twenty .21/.22) have also been recommended, though the latter are a little out of my league. If anyone could share their experiences with the above or suggest any other options, it would be very much appreciated. Many thanks in advance. Kind regards, Nick
  25. Item: ATC SCM7 in cherry Location: Clayton, Melbourne Price: $800 pickup or buyer pays postage Item Condition: Very good - some minor marks on the corners Reason for selling: Dynaudio Focus 110 incoming Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, Direct Deposit Extra Info: **These are now definitely for sale** The SCM7's are the smallest speaker in ATC's lineup. They might be tiddlers, but weigh (by far) the most out of any speakers I've owned (7kg each); the magnets must be huge! In terms of sound, these speakers are very open and transparent. They are the most "real" sounding speakers I have ever heard - zero colouration. Being sealed boxes, they don't produce as much bass as some of the ported speakers in this category, but what bass you do get is amazingly tight and punchy. They really come to life with 100+ watts of amplification. They will come packaged in the original box. Pics:
