  1. Looking to buy my girlfriend a house warming present - she has tinny cheap bookshelf speakers at the moment. Cant find much online about the Akai SWT110 floor standing speakers - would like to hear some thoughts.
  2. Hi! I've recently acquired a 70's Akai CS-34D top loader tape deck. It's running mostly great which was a pleasant surprise. My only issue is that occasionally there will be a high pitched screeching noise coming from the motor accompanied with some slowing down/drag of the tape. This usually occurs for a second or two after pressing play, then it will stop and sometimes come in and out as the tape plays. I have also noticed that this does not happen when the unit is operated upside down. I have tried to use some Sewing Machine Oil on the capstans and also the top of the motor where I can identify the screeching noise coming from - this made the unit run dead silent for a few hours, however the next day I tried again and the noise / drag had returned. If anyone has anything else I can try that would be great! It's a beautiful unit and I'd love to get it running as close to 100% as possible. Cheers
  3. Item: Akai AM 2400 vintage amplifier Location: Brookvale Price: 200 (Neg) Item Condition: Amazing, considering how old it is. I can't spot any scratch at all Reason for selling: Upgrade Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only Extra Info: Selling my akai amplifier, in good working and cosmetic condition, it's quite heavy so I will recommend pick up, I can delivery on the Sydney area and might arrange postage on agreement with the potential buyer. It sounds very nice and never had any issues with it, I have managed to get another vintage with VU meters that needs some repairs so planning to use the money for fixing it. I have been using with my turntable with the built in pre-amp and with an external one that I bought here and that I'm listing on another task as per CFO request as well. Info from the net https://www.hifiengine.com/manual_library/akai/am-2400.shtml Open to reasonable offers. Pictiures:
  4. Item: Akai AA1175 Location: Melbourne Price: $650 Item Condition: Very good condition, see all photos for cosmetic condition Reason for selling: Getting sticked to my Marantz 2325. Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Bank deposit, COD, Paypal (Covering fees) Extra Info: AA-1175 is an absolute beauty to look at and a very nice sounding receiver from Akai. Manufactured to compete with Marantz 2275 and considered to perform better than Marantz 2275.Built like a tank receiver, with dual power supply. The unit is in very good condition and comes with original owners manual. Will need cleaning the controls/switches and fixing the veneer poping up on top of wooden cover. Everything is original and in untouched condition. I prefer local pickup and cash on pickup. Can be posted at buyers expense (postage + packing). Feel free to contact me if you need any more information on this unit. Pictures:
  5. Hi All Just trying to identify the attached amp. It was removed from a reel to reel by another party. Hoping to find schematics/service manuals. Thanks
  6. Hi, I have just aquired a Akai GX-620 R2R and as im not a great enthusiast of this kind of gear i was wondering if its worth selling or holding on to it. I am yet to plug it in and have a play as it has a little dust on it after sitting in an old fellows house for the past however many years since he brought it new. Seems in good nic with a little wear n tear over the years and with it sitting in one spot for all those years im hoping it works fine after a clean up. I guess what im after is, is it a good piece of equipment to hold on to and get cleaned up and is it something worth selling to someone that probably would appreciate it better than myself and if so roughly what it would be worth? will post pics shortly
  7. Item: Akai A-5000 Solid State Amplifier (circa 1966-1969) Location: Eastern Suburbs, Melbourne Price: $150 Item Condition: Cosmetic 7/10, working 9/10 Reason for selling: Don't use it, taking up room. Payment Method: Pickup - Cash Extra Info: Haven't used it in over a year, it just sits in my spare room collecting dust, would suit a nice Akai Reel to Reel, probably needs a clean as well.
  8. Item: Akai AT-93 FM tuner Location: Canberra Price: $250 or best offer Item Condition: Has light scratches on the top and a small ding, see pictures. Functions perfectly otherwise. Reason for selling: Not enough room to accomodate it, and it isn't seeing enough use either. Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only Extra Info: From fmtunerinfo.com: The very rare AT-93 was Akai's most expensive and perhaps best tuner. Our contributor Miklos reports, "I bought mine in Germany and it was sitting in storage for about two years waiting for me to find a schematic to change the de-emphasis to 75 µS. Since I couldn't find a diagram, I finally decided to do it anyway. The tuner has a completely discrete audio output stage, with about eight transistors in each channel. The de-emphasis is sort of a unusual one (balanced?), requiring one to change four capacitors, instead the usual two. The unit uses quality components, like copper film capacitors - I've never seen anything like it in any other tuner. It is running now, and has heavenly sound." Our contributor Ray D. calls the AT-93 "an ergonomic and functional masterpiece: lots of functions, lots of automation and manual overrides for everything. Brilliant." The AT-93 usually sells for $250-285 on eBay, with a recent low of $127 in 11/06 and a recent high of $395 in 3/08 as two guys ran it up from $117. Uses a European power plug, so you'll need an adapter for it, but it will run off Australian mains without any issues. Pictures:
